Simplicity is at the fore when it comes to Windcomb. The sense of space is not something to be taken for granted, either. Eight people, and not a sofa bed in sight. Unfortunately, it’s rather common for unscrupulous landlords to try to shoehorn people in, but that’s certainly not the case here. It’s a bit of a pain to have to climb up the steps, but that’s an occupational risk when you test so many homes in old buildings – it’s hardly a dealbreaker.


Windcomb

Once a convent, now home to a sleek and contemporary apartment, this place is perfect for families or groups of friends looking to stay in the heart of Madrid. We loved the industrial-chic interiors – it’s all poured concrete floors, exposed brick walls and reclaimed timber beams. Kick back on the royal blue sofa or slink off for a siesta in the quiet bedrooms as the appointed chef of your group whips up Spanish delicacies for lunch. 

After the plates are cleared, plan your itinerary at the dining table. We recommend starting with the Royal Palace, a mere ten-minute walk from your doorstep. If you’d like to stretch your legs a little further, it’s a thirty-minute stroll to El Retiro Park. Pause for a coffee on the buzzing Calle Cava Baja before picking a spot to bask in the sunshine beside El Retiro Lake. 

Royal Indigo

Step into the heart of Madrid with a stay in this contemporary loft. From the simple aesthetic to the functional design, this is a great option for couples and solo travellers in search of a refreshing city stay. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room and the main bedroom is located on the mezzanine level (with no door), but you’ll find all the essentials needed to make it your own. Outside, it’s just a short stroll to local tapas bars, shops and iconic sights like the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid. 


Madrid's Sky Loft

Housed in a building that was once home to 18th-century writer and philosopher Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, this beautifully curated apartment blends history and modern comforts in dazzling style. 
 
Featuring sparkling white walls decked with mirrors and earthy-toned artworks, there’s a feeling of bohemian chic in the carefully chosen ornaments that bring together the home’s minimalist aesthetic to great effect. Make yourself comfortable on the inviting sofa with a glass of Spanish wine or gather around the dining table for an at-home tapas feast when you’re not out sampling La Latina’s renowned restaurant and bar scenes. 
 
The bedroom, meanwhile, is a calm and comfortable space designed with a dreamy night’s sleep in mind, and there’s even a desk space here too should the building’s authorly history inspire you to pen some prose. Factor in the thoroughly modern bathroom with its luxurious rainfall shower, and you’ve got everything you need for a carefree, relaxing stay. 
 
When it comes to sightseeing, your La Latina neighbourhood offers a maze of narrow lanes filled with tapas bars and cantinas to discover, while bargain hunters won’t want to miss the El Rastro flea market held each Sunday, a ten-minute walk away. Elsewhere, bustling Plaza Mayor is a nine-minute walk, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a fifteen-minute stroll and the world-famous Museo Nacional del Prado is eighteen minutes away on foot. 


The Squares of La Latina

What this compact apartment lacks in size, it makes up for in style. Cool and contemporary, we think it works best for solo travellers, couples, and digital nomads – especially those keen to explore Madrid on foot. The living space has funky neon signs and industrial-chic accents. Though snug, the kitchen is well-suited to rustling up light bites – there's also a high-top table that can be used as a work-from-home space. The cherry on top is the location in La Latina. You'll find restaurants and tapas bars aplenty here, plus all the must-see landmarks like Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace are about a ten-minute walk away.

Neon & Lime

This minimalist home's most prominent feature is the heavy use of drapes. You'll see them separating the master bedroom from the living room, the workspace, and the kitchen has its own stylish set too. True, there is more of a hotel vibe here, but at the same time, this is a sleek, well-designed and super comfortable home — not to mention the excellent traffic links to the rest of Spain via Atocha station. 

The Baldachine

Set within the heart of Madrid, this apartment is an ideal base for those looking to drop off their suitcases and head out to explore. It's a studio, so space is limited. We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed. Locally, indulge in some tasty tapas, soak up some culture at the Prado Museum, or head to Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol for a true taste of Madrid. 

Sunflower's Embrace

Tucked away in the heart of the La Latina neighbourhood, this contemporary home is an ideal base for friends or family on a Madrid getaway. Sure, as a party of five, one person will sleep on the sofa bed in the living room, but it’s a small price to pay for this home’s location. Sightseeing comes easily here – you’re a mere kilometre from the iconic Prado Museum, and with Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor within easy reach, shopping and sampling some authentic Spanish cuisine is a must. 

La Latina Life

Get immersed in all that the vibrant Spanish capital has to offer with a stay at this stylish apartment situated in the very heart of the city. On the other side, you’ll find a dining table where you’ll be able to enjoy communal feasts. Putting together delicious meals will be a breeze thanks to the well-equipped kitchen. After supper, kick off your shoes and relax on the plush sofas in the company of your loved ones. 

For a night of rest and blissful sleep head over to the luxurious bedrooms – before you retreat to the land of sweet dreams, enjoy an indulgent bath in one of the spa-like bathrooms. We love the lovely art which creates a pattern running through the whole apartment, and the bathrooms are no exception. 

When the morning finds you refreshed and ready for a day of city exploring, you’ll be happy to know that you’re in the best possible place from which to reach all the landmarks of this magical city. Lose yourself in the rich art collection at the Prado Museum situated a ten-minute walk away and make the most out of the fantastic range of restaurants and bars in your area. 

The Dance & The Wonder

It can be difficult to find accommodation suited to larger groups in the heart of the city, but this smart apartment will tick all the boxes. With plenty of space and flexible sleeping options, this central home is the perfect place to spend some quality time with your guests between your sightseeing excursions. 

You'll love the spacious living area, with double-height ceilings and huge windows that flood the space with natural light. The bike sculptures and selection of houseplants add some quirkiness, while the open-plan layout is perfect for socialising. Uncork a bottle of delicious Spanish wine, and put together some tasty tapas dishes to share at the stylish dining bench. And, when it's time for bed, you can head upstairs to one of the cosy bedrooms, furnished with a blend of vintage and contemporary pieces. 

The famous Puerta del Sol is just an eight-minute walk away from your front door, where you can see famous sights like the Puerta del Sol Clock and the El Oso y El Madroño sculpture. History fans will be happy to know that the Royal Palace is a fifteen-minute walk away, and the Museo Nacional del Prado is the same distance in the opposite direction. And, if you're craving some serenity after all that sightseeing then head to El Retiro Park and wander through the rose gardens before enjoying a picnic by the lake.

Modern, compact and centrally located, this apartment is the perfect landing pad for those always on the go. Inside, it’s stripped-back and minimalistic with funky patterned walls, tiles and textiles adding interest to the spaces. Wake up feeling refreshed in the neat bedrooms before starting the day with a quick breakfast put together in your fully-equipped kitchen. Once you’ve finished your coffee, head out and explore your surroundings. 

Begin with a trip to the Prado Museum then enjoy a picnic in sunny Retiro Park, a short walk from your doorstep. Mosey over to the Royal Palace or shop ‘til you drop along the Gra Vía. Come evening, seek out a long-standing tablao for a rousing flamenco performance followed by tasty tapas in a laid-back restaurant. 

Get Up & Go

This home is far from a pristine condition, but we're sure you can spot the wear and tear from the photos. The exposed wooden beams and the older-looking elements help create a special kind of charm that's hard to find in Madrid these days. The Open Library might also have one of the finest kitchens we've seen, equipped with enough dishes space to cook for a small army. The fact that it's also located within walking distance from the Prado and Puerta del sol makes this home a great, relaxed stay.
