Despite being so close to main attractions and located among the most vibrant streets, it’s a space where you can relax. This apartment is classy, colourful, and comfortable. The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

The most remarkable thing about Espinas is the quiet. Despite having three balconies, and being in the middle of Lavapiés, the street it looks onto is actually fairly calm. The building is old, and a lot of the original structure features prominently in the flat, which has been designed to complement the space, rather than dominate it. There is some pretty loud wallpaper though, which stops the design from falling into the dreaded ‘neutral’ category.


Espinas

This duplex apartment is an excellent option for a base in central Madrid. It’s filled with light and has all the amenities you might need during your city break. One of the beds is a mattress without a bed frame, and as it’s at mezzanine level above the living room it’s not entirely private. This room also doubles as a workspace for anyone needing to catch up on work. We love the location of this home, just a ten-minute walk from Atocha station and within easy reach of shops, restaurants, and many of Madrid’s best museums, including Museo Nacional del Prado.

While the insides of this home are immaculate, the building itself could do with a fresh lick of paint, especially the hallway. If this isn't too much of a turn-off for you, Pumpkin Flower is a true find.

In the heart of Madrid, just a few metres away from Plaza Mayor and within walking distance of Puerta del Sol, this city apartment couldn't be better located. Keep in mind that some noise should be expected here, but we think it's a small price to pay for this central spot. You'll find a great selection of restaurants on your doorstep if you'd like to sample the local cuisine, but if you'd prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well-equipped for homemade tapas. 

Madrid Serenade

This minimal pad is located in the vibrant Lavapiés neighbourhood and offers an ideal stay on the doorstep of the Plaza Mayor and Reina Sofía Museum. The apartment itself is modern, though the kitchen needs a refresh – that said, some of Madrid’s most eclectic restaurants are right on your doorstep. With space for six guests, two of which will be on the living room sofa bed, it'll do nicely as a city base – all the sights are within easy reach, and Lavapiés metro is just a short walk away.

Fashioned in Spain

Nestled in the bustling heart of the city, this Lavapiés apartment is just the spot for those who want interior design and location. From here, you can walk to El Retiro, Mercado Antón Martín and Museo Nacional del Prado, as well as all the city’s top eateries. The apartment accommodates five, with three sleeping on sofa beds, so though perhaps a little compact, the flexibility is there if you need it. And while you’ll need to climb some stairs to reach this fourth-floor pad, the stylish interiors and little balcony are a treat after a long day of sightseeing.

Based around an open living area, Peaks & Valleys is well proportioned and generally a sociable space. It’s not in pristine condition, as evidenced by the marks on the walls, but that’s an aesthetic consideration, and doesn’t make the home any less comfortable. The metro station in Lavapiés is close to the flat, and while the square outside is a little rough around the edges, there are several lively bars and restaurants.


Peaks & Valleys

Tucked away in the heart of the La Latina neighbourhood, this contemporary home is an ideal base for friends or family on a Madrid getaway. Sure, as a party of five, one person will sleep on the sofa bed in the living room, but it’s a small price to pay for this home’s location. Sightseeing comes easily here – you’re a mere kilometre from the iconic Prado Museum, and with Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor within easy reach, shopping and sampling some authentic Spanish cuisine is a must. 

La Latina Life

Modern, compact and centrally located, this apartment is the perfect landing pad for those always on the go. Inside, it’s stripped-back and minimalistic with funky patterned walls, tiles and textiles adding interest to the spaces. Wake up feeling refreshed in the neat bedrooms before starting the day with a quick breakfast put together in your fully-equipped kitchen. Once you’ve finished your coffee, head out and explore your surroundings. 

Begin with a trip to the Prado Museum then enjoy a picnic in sunny Retiro Park, a short walk from your doorstep. Mosey over to the Royal Palace or shop ‘til you drop along the Gra Vía. Come evening, seek out a long-standing tablao for a rousing flamenco performance followed by tasty tapas in a laid-back restaurant.

Simplicity is at the fore when it comes to Windcomb. The sense of space is not something to be taken for granted, either. Eight people, and not a sofa bed in sight. Unfortunately, it’s rather common for unscrupulous landlords to try to shoehorn people in, but that’s certainly not the case here. It’s a bit of a pain to have to climb up the steps, but that’s an occupational risk when you test so many homes in old buildings – it’s hardly a dealbreaker.

Once a convent, now home to a sleek and contemporary apartment, this place is perfect for families or groups of friends looking to stay in the heart of Madrid. We loved the industrial-chic interiors – it’s all poured concrete floors, exposed brick walls and reclaimed timber beams. Kick back on the royal blue sofa or slink off for a siesta in the quiet bedrooms as the appointed chef of your group whips up Spanish delicacies for lunch. 

After the plates are cleared, plan your itinerary at the dining table. We recommend starting with the Royal Palace, a mere ten-minute walk from your doorstep. If you’d like to stretch your legs a little further, it’s a thirty-minute stroll to El Retiro Park. Pause for a coffee on the buzzing Calle Cava Baja before picking a spot to bask in the sunshine beside El Retiro Lake.

Just a ten-minute walk from Plaza Mayor, this stylish flat isn't messing about when it comes to location. Interesting museums, high-end shopping and many of Madrid's must-see landmarks are a quick stroll away – including Puerta del Sol, Parque de El Retiro and Palacio Real de Madrid, just to name a few. If you love trying new cuisine, you're in luck – this neighbourhood has an array of delectable restaurants and lively bars to while away the evenings in.

Or, if you're partial to homecooked meals, make your way back to this stylish flat and rustle up something tasty in the kitchen. It has everything you'll need – a large island, built-in appliances and plenty of counter space. The rest of the flat is impeccable, too – two glossy bathrooms (one decked out with bold palm leaf wallpaper, another en-suite) feature rainfall showers, the comfortable bedrooms are cosy and pared-back and the bright living area boats a squishy sofa and a lovely Juliet balcony that floods the room with light. It can be difficult to find accommodation suited to larger groups in the heart of the city, but this smart apartment will tick all the boxes. With plenty of space and flexible sleeping options, this central home is the perfect place to spend some quality time with your guests between your sightseeing excursions. 

You'll love the spacious living area, with double-height ceilings and huge windows that flood the space with natural light. The bike sculptures and selection of houseplants add some quirkiness, while the open-plan layout is perfect for socialising. Uncork a bottle of delicious Spanish wine, and put together some tasty tapas dishes to share at the stylish dining bench. From this convenient base, you’re within easy reach of designer shops, bars, markets and theatres, in addition to some of the city’s most popular tourist spots – Plaza Mayor is only a fifteen-minute walk. Lavapiés metro station is also a short walk away. Ideal for those working during their stay, there are two desks at this home.

The sizeable bedroom is well-lit, the bathroom fully provisioned and pleasantly decorated with marble-look tiles, and there’s even a designated workspace for those travelling on business. But it’s the apartment’s location in the central hub of Madrid that will truly excite you, as you’re within walking distance from everything fun and artistic, including the Prado Museum, the Rastro flea market and the Plaza Mayor, as well as endless bars, eateries, theatres and shops too. Situated just metres away from the metro, you'll have easy access to explore the whole city with ease and efficiancy. Lively and diverse, dramatic street art decorates the Embajadores neighbourhood, while colourful flower stalls perfume the air and please the senses one step further. Location is all important for city breaks, and this apartment has a winning location. It’s in the heart of La Latina, one of the most traditional neighbourhoods in Madrid. You’ll be just a short stroll from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor and will have your pick of bars, restaurants, and cafes nearby. This comes in particularly handy because there’s not a huge amount of space for socialising in the apartment – but you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable place to rest your head. 

La Latina's Heart

What this compact apartment lacks in size, it makes up for in style. Cool and contemporary, we think it works best for solo travellers, couples, and digital nomads – especially those keen to explore Madrid on foot. The living space has funky neon signs and industrial-chic accents. Though snug, the kitchen is well-suited to rustling up light bites – there's also a high-top table that can be used as a work-from-home space. The cherry on top is the location in La Latina. You'll find restaurants and tapas bars aplenty here, plus all the must-see landmarks like Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace are about a ten-minute walk away.

Neon & Lime

With an excellent view of Lope de Vega, Blue Reverie is set against a typical Madrileño backdrop of terracotta townhouses. The streets surrounding this home are full of independent shoemakers, tapas bars and quirky cafes that characterise the dreamy neighbourhood of Las Letras. Although the design of this bright home is rather minimal, the wall art in the communal area will ignite your curiosity and connect you to fellow explorers of the Spanish Capital.  

Blue Reverie

Centrally located in Madrid’s vibrant Lavapiés neighbourhood, this practical apartment offers plenty in the way of nearby sights, with the Royal Palace of Madrid within walking distance, as well as the lively barrio of La Latina. The space itself is compact and there’s not much natural light here. You’ll want to pack light and leave your main meals up to the many nearby restaurants due to the small kitchenette too. But as a functional base for sightseeing aplenty, this pocket-sized pad does nicely.

This fabulous three-bedroom apartment is stylishly decorated throughout and brimming with character. The open-plan living room has lovely high ceilings, beautiful period windows, and a bright and airy feel. The bedrooms might not be the largest bedrooms we've ever seen, but they all have a lovely, calming feel and do the job just fine. We also love all the original paintings  throughout the home - this host has style!

Yellow Brushwork

Set within the heart of Madrid, this apartment is an ideal base for those looking to drop off their suitcases and head out to explore. It's a studio, so space is limited. We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed. Locally, indulge in some tasty tapas, soak up some culture at the Prado Museum, or head to Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol for a true taste of Madrid. 

Sunflower's Embrace

Located in the heart of La Latina, a traditional neighbourhood in the centre of Madrid, you'll be just a few meters from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol with this home as your base. With an open-plan kitchen and living area, plus a private courtyard terrace, it's easy to chill out between excursions here. While this home features stylish and contemporary designs, it lacks natural daylight – so it is best suited to those who intend to spend much of their time out and about in the city. It's also worth noting that the bunk beds are situated in the hallway, so we think these beds would be better suited to children. 


The Wicker Sun

Housed in a building that was once home to 18th-century writer and philosopher Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos, this beautifully curated apartment blends history and modern comforts in dazzling style. 
 
Featuring sparkling white walls decked with mirrors and earthy-toned artworks, there’s a feeling of bohemian chic in the carefully chosen ornaments that bring together the home’s minimalist aesthetic to great effect. Make yourself comfortable on the inviting sofa with a glass of Spanish wine or gather around the dining table for an at-home tapas feast when you’re not out sampling La Latina’s renowned restaurant and bar scenes. 
 
The bedroom, meanwhile, is a calm and comfortable space designed with a dreamy night’s sleep in mind, and there’s even a desk space here too should the building’s authorly history inspire you to pen some prose. When it comes to sightseeing, your La Latina neighbourhood offers a maze of narrow lanes filled with tapas bars and cantinas to discover, while bargain hunters won’t want to miss the El Rastro flea market held each Sunday, a ten-minute walk away. Elsewhere, bustling Plaza Mayor is a nine-minute walk, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a fifteen-minute stroll and the world-famous Museo Nacional del Prado is eighteen minutes away on foot. 


The Squares of La Latina

Twenty minutes on foot from Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, and El Retiro Park, this apartment is well-placed to explore. Many shops, restaurants, and metro stations are nearby, as well as some of Madrid's most famous markets. When you're not sightseeing, this central home is practical and comfortable. We love the exposed brick and stone walls, though it does mean it's a little dark. The kitchen is the ideal size to rustle up lighter fare, but we suspect you'd prefer dining out.
