We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. A riot of elegant colours and patterns, it couldn't be further from modern minimalism if it tried.

Once you've arrived and stared out of the window for long enough to take it all in, choose between the two pretty bedrooms – one decorated in calming greens, the other in vibrant terracotta. There's a grand, open-plan living space to keep everything sociable, and a kitchen with everything you'll need for cooking at home. But we suspect you'll be eating out much of the time – it would be rude not to when surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. And with most of the major attractions on your doorstep too, you'll have plenty to see and do.

This bright and comfortable apartment is just a stone’s throw from the Royal Palace of Madrid. The official residence of the Head of State is open to the public, so you can explore the spot where centuries of Spanish history took place. The apartment is also just in front of the Sabatini Gardens, and 100 metres from Príncipe Pio train station. Plaza de España is only a five-minute walk away, too. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, so things might feel a little crowded – you’re unlikely to be spending much time at home though.

We loved the industrial-chic interiors – it’s all poured concrete floors, exposed brick walls and reclaimed timber beams. Kick back on the royal blue sofa or slink off for a siesta in the quiet bedrooms as the appointed chef of your group whips up Spanish delicacies for lunch. 

After the plates are cleared, plan your itinerary at the dining table. We recommend starting with the Royal Palace, a mere ten-minute walk from your doorstep. If you’d like to stretch your legs a little further, it’s a thirty-minute stroll to El Retiro Park. Pause for a coffee on the buzzing Calle Cava Baja before picking a spot to bask in the sunshine beside El Retiro Lake.

An enviable structure with high ceilings and big windows is filled with custom-made furniture that leaves plenty of space to move around. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

Sightseeing comes easily here – you’re a mere kilometre from the iconic Prado Museum, and with Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor within easy reach, shopping and sampling some authentic Spanish cuisine is a must.

We have to say, we love the main bedroom with its dressing room and en-suite. This home is a great choice whether you’re here for leisure or work.

Located in the heart of La Latina, a traditional neighbourhood in the centre of Madrid, you'll be just a few meters from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol with this home as your base. With an open-plan kitchen and living area, plus a private courtyard terrace, it's easy to chill out between excursions here. While this home features stylish and contemporary designs, it lacks natural daylight – so it is best suited to those who intend to spend much of their time out and about in the city. It's also worth noting that the bunk beds are situated in the hallway, so we think these beds would be better suited to children. 


The Wicker Sun

In the heart of Madrid, just a few metres away from Plaza Mayor and within walking distance of Puerta del Sol, this city apartment couldn't be better located. Keep in mind that some noise should be expected here, but we think it's a small price to pay for this central spot. You'll find a great selection of restaurants on your doorstep if you'd like to sample the local cuisine, but if you'd prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well-equipped for homemade tapas.

What a great location this apartment has in Madrid. The Royal Palace is just seven minutes on foot, while the Almudena Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor are within walking distance, too. As you'd expect from such a central location, you will hear some city noise while staying here. After all that exploring, you can sit in this home's shared courtyard and get your breath back. Inside, we love the living area's double-height ceilings and galleried landing, and there's a desk here if you need to catch up on work. We'd say the adjacent ground-floor bedroom isn't fully private, as it's a cubicle room with three-quarter-height walls – otherwise, this is a great home for couples, a family or business colleagues.

A literal stone’s throw from Madrid’s beating heart (the Plaza Mayor), it doesn’t get more central than this apartment. You’re on the edge of the square where pavement cafés spill out onto the cobbles and the porticoed buildings date back to the 16th century when this was the centre of Old Madrid. The surrounded streets are packed with late-night tapas joints and buzzing bars. Or, head to the fresh produce and street food market, Mercado de San Miguel, a three-minute walk away to bring back some tasty local treats to your bijou abode.

It may be a studio, but the full kitchen is tucked away from the bedroom and living area in its own, modern enclave. This comes in particularly handy because there’s not a huge amount of space for socialising in the apartment – but you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable place to rest your head. 

La Latina's Heart

Situated a stone’s throw from Madrid’s Royal Palace and surrounded by the narrow streets of La Latina, this charming duplex apartment is the perfect place to base yourself while you’re exploring all the wonders that this city has to offer.

We love the wooden ceiling, along with its beams and stylish light fixtures, adding to the warm and pleasant ambience. 

While this space is compact there is enough room to feel comfortable. You’ll be able to whip quick and delicious snacks in the well-equipped kitchenette and enjoy them at the elegant dining table. This can also serve as a great spot to catch up on any work you might have to do during your stay.

Stay Wild isn’t the most inspiring home in our Madrid Collection. The decoration is a bit on the generic side and we’re definitely not ecstatic about the fake plants. All of this can be forgiven though, with its location just moments from Plaza Mayor. The balconies offer views onto Calle Mayor and even a glimpse of Casa de Campos. This makes it ideal for those in search of a functional base to explore the city.

We love how shades of natural brown sit alongside elegant neutral notes here, while ample natural light pours in through the French doors in the living room. But as a functional base for sightseeing aplenty, this pocket-sized pad does nicely.

With an understated, soothing colour palette highlighted by the natural light flooding through the windows, you'll feel at home the moment you step through the front door. Its central location means you're surrounded by tempting tapas bars, charming neighbourhood cafes, and plenty of beautiful streets to wander down with no particular goal. So after a long day of adventuring, snuggle up on the cosy sofa and stream a classic Pedro Almodóvar movie before retreating to the serene bedrooms for a restful night's sleep. In the morning, sip on a cup of coffee as the colourful streets come to life below. Then, for blissful days out, take a stroll through the lush gardens of Jardines de Sabatini and Plaza de Oriente, mere minutes away from your home.

Shifting Gears has clearly been designed by someone with an eye for interiors. Even though the footprint is pretty small, the space has been manipulated cleverly to make it feel much bigger. Some of the design is more what you’d expect to find in Copenhagen than in Madrid (the wall-mounted bike feels like a particular candidate for an Instagram post). There’s even a balcony, which although too small for socialising, has a lovely view out over La Latina.

You'll be in good company with a stay at this elegant apartment, overlooking one of Madrid's most iconic baroque churches and with the emblematic Royal Palace just around the corner. With so many hotspots on your doorstep, it's no surprise this place is slap bang in Madrid's Centro district. Dive into its history-rich streets dotted with royal palaces and uncover leafy plazas at every turn – there's a sunny spot at an outdoor cafe waiting just for you when thoughts turn to a crisp glass of vino and tapas plates. More of a sweet tooth? Then the famed Chocolatería San Ginés for churros with chocolate is dangerously close, just a five-minute stroll away.

Both bedrooms are simple yet wonderfully comfortable and we’re particularly fond of the main bedroom’s French doors that lead out onto a scenic Juliet balcony.
