Keep in mind that some noise should be expected here, but we think it's a small price to pay for this central spot. You'll find a great selection of restaurants on your doorstep if you'd like to sample the local cuisine, but if you'd prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well-equipped for homemade tapas.

After the plates are cleared, plan your itinerary at the dining table. We recommend starting with the Royal Palace, a mere ten-minute walk from your doorstep. If you’d like to stretch your legs a little further, it’s a thirty-minute stroll to El Retiro Park. Despite being so close to main attractions and located among the most vibrant streets, it’s a space where you can relax. This apartment is classy, colourful, and comfortable. The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

Despite being located in the heart of Malasaña, Autumn Jungle is tucked away on a quiet street. Walking to Plaza Mayor or Palacio Real will be a breeze, but the nearby streets of Madrid's trendiest neighbourhood will have you stopping in art galleries and cosy bars along the way. This is a well-executed home with curated artwork, where special attention has been given to the details. It might not be the biggest home in our collection, but it has a pleasant, bohemian chic vibe that fits in perfectly in the spirit of Malasaña.

What a fabulous location this refurbished apartment has – Puerta del Sol, one of the best-known squares in the city, is just a two-minute stroll away. Or, a five-minute walk will take you to one of Madrid's most famous streets, Gran Vía. Watch a production at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía or have lunch at one of its many eateries. Alternatively, the iconic Plaza del Dos de Mayo is a fifteen-minute wander. Here, you'll find plenty of bars, as well as a lively weekend market for fresh produce.  

Take some goodies back to this elegant apartment and whip up a bocadillo de calamares (calamari sandwich) in the sleek, white kitchen and enjoy it at the dining table with its plush green velvet chairs. We love the French doors to the balcony – they allow so much light in, and the views are fantastic. An enviable structure with high ceilings and big windows is filled with custom-made furniture that leaves plenty of space to move around. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

Interesting museums, high-end shopping and many of Madrid's must-see landmarks are a quick stroll away – including Puerta del Sol, Parque de El Retiro and Palacio Real de Madrid, just to name a few. If you love trying new cuisine, you're in luck – this neighbourhood has an array of delectable restaurants and lively bars to while away the evenings in.

Or, if you're partial to homecooked meals, make your way back to this stylish flat and rustle up something tasty in the kitchen. It has everything you'll need – a large island, built-in appliances and plenty of counter space. The rest of the flat is impeccable, too – two glossy bathrooms (one decked out with bold palm leaf wallpaper, another en-suite) feature rainfall showers, the comfortable bedrooms are cosy and pared-back and the bright living area boats a squishy sofa and a lovely Juliet balcony that floods the room with light. We think you'll love calling this apartment home, whether you're in town for a few days or a few weeks.

Molten Brass is neat and tidy. There isn’t a lot that jumps out at you, but that’s not necessarily a problem – the atmosphere inside is pretty calm. That stands in contrast to the atmosphere on the street below, which is pretty intense, but that’s because you’re in the heart of Malasaña, so there’s tonnes to do. As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.

The interiors boast plush furnishings, exposed brick and lots of natural sunlight, whilst outside you'll find a small but cosy terrace. Step out of the front door and you'll be on the bustling streets of Madrid, within an easy distance of the area's main attractions. We love the funky art prints decking the walls and the large windows giving way to leafy views. The dining table is perfectly set up here to catch the rays pouring through the glass, over a hearty breakfast before a day of sightseeing, or over a bottle of Spanish red for a celebratory evening meal.
 
The pared-back bedroom is a comfortable space you’ll have no trouble falling asleep in, and in the morning, the bathroom’s rainfall shower is sure to get your day off on the right. 
 
When you’re ready to venture out for a day of fun, you’ll find plenty to see and do within easy walking distance. Make your way to nearby Puerta del Sol, or head to Plaza Mayor – one of the city’s most famous squares lined with restaurants. Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

This chic and attractive apartment has everything you might need for a comfortable city break. It’s located in Chueca, one of Madrid’s liveliest neighbourhoods, full of cafes, boutiques, and bars. Despite its central location, this is a peaceful home-from-home, ideal for unwinding after busy sightseeing days and evenings spent feasting on tapas. It’s bright and welcoming, flooded with light, and has been beautifully decorated in muted tones. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room – if you’re hoping for more space, we’d recommend a maximum occupancy of two. 

The Bohemian Retreat

There are plenty of tourist attractions within walking distance of this home. Go for riverside walks at the Parque Madrid Rio nearby, or visit the zoo and amusement park at Casa de Campo. Other places of interest include the Royal Palace and La Almudena Cathedral. There are plenty of eateries to sample, too, or head back to this apartment and cook some tapas dishes. All in all, we'd say this home is ideal for a business professional, solo traveller or couple.

The terrace is the first thing that grabs your attention at this fabulous home, housed in a historic building dating back to 1919 – it's the perfect place for a glass (or a pitcher) of sangria. It really is a fantastic, south-facing outdoor space, with a sunshade – relax on the sun loungers or enjoy some alfresco tapas. There's an outside shower too to rinse off the suncream before going indoors. Inside, there's lots of light, and the huge living room is a wonderful space to entertain. We love the original artwork and colourful wallpapers in the bedrooms. This apartment is perfect for a group of friends, family or professionals on a business trip. We were surprised, as well, given its central, Calle Gran Vía location, how quiet it is here. Step out of the door, and you're on Madrid's most famous street, right in the centre of the capital. Here you'll find some of the city’s most iconic buildings, as well as boutiques, restaurants (let your lovely host make reservations) and bars galore. Take in the incredible views over Madrid from the roof terrace of Círculo de Bellas Artes, a cultural centre offering concerts and exhibitions, a five-minute stroll away. Or, get inspired at Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza with its masterpieces by Van Gogh, Caravaggio and Lichtenstein, nine minutes on foot. Architecture lovers, on the other hand, can admire Ayuntamiento de Madrid, or visit the exhibitions at Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos, both under a ten-minute saunter.

We'd struggle to think of a better location than Gran Vía. This avenue is the city's lifeline, filed with theatres, shops and great transport links to Madrid's many landmarks. Grey Magnolia isn't only central, it looks good too. Some might find its minimalism a bit boring, but the well-curated designer furniture has plenty of character, making the most of the small square footage. We especially liked the headboard in the bedroom and the chic dining table.

Cosy and charming, this apartment nestled in the heart of the vibrant centre of Madrid is the perfect spot for a romantic city break for two. While outside you’ll find yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of the capital, here you’ll be able to relax and enjoy total peace and tranquillity. 

The place might be small in scale but it never feels cramped – you’ll have plenty of room to relax in the comfy living area, under the watchful eye of Audrey Hepburn gazing down from the wall. Enjoy snuggly evenings of Spanish wine and conversation here – you can also rustle up quick and delicious meals in the bright and modern kitchen. Savour them at the elegant dining table, ideal for candlelit suppers – in case you have some laptop work to catch up on this is also the place to get that out of the way.
 
Meanwhile, the plush bed in the bedroom promises a good night’s rest – awake restored and ready for another day of city adventures. With most of Madrid’s most iconic sights within walking distance, you’ll find yourself spoiled for choice when it comes to things to do. Start by picking a direction – there’s magic awaiting around every corner.

We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. A riot of elegant colours and patterns, it couldn't be further from modern minimalism if it tried.

Once you've arrived and stared out of the window for long enough to take it all in, choose between the two pretty bedrooms – one decorated in calming greens, the other in vibrant terracotta. There's a grand, open-plan living space to keep everything sociable, and a kitchen with everything you'll need for cooking at home. But we suspect you'll be eating out much of the time – it would be rude not to when surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. And with most of the major attractions on your doorstep too, you'll have plenty to see and do.



The Palace Window 

This is a calm, dreamy home with lots of nooks to hide away and relax. Think gentle, coherent style and wonderful details, such as the rock wall in the living room or the breakfast bar in the open kitchen. The huge door-to-ceiling windows in the living room bring in the daylight without the noise, making you almost forget that you're located in the heart of Malasaña. We recommend the nearby Toma Cafe for a taste of the local atmosphere.

Coco Mimosa

This smart apartment is the perfect place to embrace city living. Located in the very centre of Madrid, it's a great spot to kick back and relax between your adventures. 

Step inside, and you'll find a simple yet chic space that has everything you need for a successful stay. Admire the pretty patterned wallpaper, before heading to the petite kitchen to whip up some Spanish snacks. We think you'll love sitting around the dining table nibbling on some tapas as you sip a glass of Albariño and plan your itinerary. Then, when it's time for sleep, you can watch some TV in bed before drifting off, ready for the following day. 

Culture fans will be in their element – the Museo Nacional del Prado is a ten-minute walk away, and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía is even closer. When you've had your fill of art and history, head to the nearby El Retiro Park to relax and reflect in the gorgeous gardens. And, when you need to refuel, there's no shortage of independent eateries right on your doorstep – the only difficulty you'll have is picking where to go first.

Artistic Heights

The most remarkable thing about Espinas is the quiet. Despite having three balconies, and being in the middle of Lavapiés, the street it looks onto is actually fairly calm. The building is old, and a lot of the original structure features prominently in the flat, which has been designed to complement the space, rather than dominate it. There is some pretty loud wallpaper though, which stops the design from falling into the dreaded ‘neutral’ category.


Espinas

Set within the heart of Madrid, this apartment is an ideal base for those looking to drop off their suitcases and head out to explore. It's a studio, so space is limited. We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed. Locally, indulge in some tasty tapas, soak up some culture at the Prado Museum, or head to Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol for a true taste of Madrid.

There's a reason Salamanca is one of Madrid's most sought-after neighbourhoods. With its gourmet eateries, world-renowned museums and luxury boutiques lining the Golden Mile, the area offers something for everyone. Just on the cusp of this swanky postcode is this apartment. The size is ideal for couples and solo travellers, but the option of a single sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible. Netflix and a Playstation have rainy days covered, and although it's not the most exciting home, we like the design – particularly the colourful wallpaper in the bedroom.

From here, you'll be within walking distance of Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace of Madrid and Museo Nacional del Prado. You’re also just a few steps from Sol metro station, so the whole city is at your fingertips. Inside, you’ll find a modern open-plan space with a balcony and a dining area to share leisurely meals. Keep in mind that two guests will be sleeping on the living room sofa bed here, so it does lack some privacy. And if you’re visiting with little ones, your host can provide a cot upon request.

The official residence of the Head of State is open to the public, so you can explore the spot where centuries of Spanish history took place. The apartment is also just in front of the Sabatini Gardens, and 100 metres from Príncipe Pio train station. Plaza de España is only a five-minute walk away, too. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, so things might feel a little crowded – you’re unlikely to be spending much time at home though.

What a great location this apartment has in Madrid. The Royal Palace is just seven minutes on foot, while the Almudena Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor are within walking distance, too. As you'd expect from such a central location, you will hear some city noise while staying here. After all that exploring, you can sit in this home's shared courtyard and get your breath back. Inside, we love the living area's double-height ceilings and galleried landing, and there's a desk here if you need to catch up on work. We'd say the adjacent ground-floor bedroom isn't fully private, as it's a cubicle room with three-quarter-height walls – otherwise, this is a great home for couples, a family or business colleagues.

This home is far from a pristine condition, but we're sure you can spot the wear and tear from the photos. The exposed wooden beams and the older-looking elements help create a special kind of charm that's hard to find in Madrid these days. The Open Library might also have one of the finest kitchens we've seen, equipped with enough dishes space to cook for a small army. The fact that it's also located within walking distance from the Prado and Puerta del sol makes this home a great, relaxed stay.
