In a peaceful part of the area close to the Swedish border, it’s in a great position for exploring the quieter town of Yllasjarvi, or the livelier resort of Iso-Ylläs. This cabin is ideal for a group of friends or families holidaying together. It’s all functional comfort and welcoming warmth, the multiple fireplaces adding extra snugness in the social spaces. There’s even a fireplace on the all-wood veranda outside. The cabin is dotted with little luxuries too. Every bedroom has its own bathroom and there’s a ski waxing room to ensure smooth gliding along the cross country trails in the area. It’s the private sauna that really tops it off for us. Throw some water on the löyly to really get the humidity going. Embrace the Finnish tradition and jump in the snow afterwards.

Sure, you could head out into the snowy expanse of Finnish Lapland to hunt for the Northern Lights. Or, you could lay back in your big double bed and watch as the Aurora Borealis put on a spellbinding display above you. This igloo-style cabin has a glass roof, so you can keep an eye on the sky all throughout the night. Or, perhaps get the sunken hot tub bubbling outside and keep warm as you scan the sky. During the day, you can gaze out of picture-frame windows at the dense pine forests around you. Hopping on a snowmobile, you can reach the lift to the ski slopes of Levi in five minutes and there’s a supermarket nearby too. The Arcandia Arctic Amusement park is also just a ten-minute shoop by snowmobile.

With walls made of jumbo logs and a thick blanket of snow on the roof, it’s got magic written all over it. You’re within walking distance (20 minutes) of Levi Centre, so you can ditch the car if you’re happy to stay local. When we think of Lapland, we think of the Northern lights, lots of snow, and cute as a button wooden chalets. And this home isn't disappointing. While we can't make any promises about the aurora borealis, we can tell you that this wooden cabin is serving up some seriously homely vibes. Set near a lake - which is perfect for summertime dips - the plot is traditionally Scandinavian. Thick tree trunks have been used to create the walls, while further wood panelling separates the bedrooms. The combined living space has got an L-shaped sofa for nights snuggled in front of the fire. A small kitchen has got everything needed for lighter meals. For those hitting the slopes, there's a communal ski waxing room to prep your equipment. And of course, what lodge would be complete without its own sauna to sweat it out after a long day?

Now, this is what you call a log cabin: a striking, sturdy wooden home, made from centuries-old Kelo wood. In case you’re wondering (we were), Kelo is an old, dried-out pine tree that’s shed its bark. It’s a natural antique, unique to the arctic region. And this home has it in double-height abundance. If it wasn’t for the wood, there’d be an echo inside the vast living space, but the rough edges and super-smooth panelling combine to give this home warmth. The wood burner and customary sauna help too, of course. There’s a generous covered porch for kicking off your kit after a day on the slopes, and a ski waxing room so you can prep for the next day. All told, it’s a fabulous family space inside a great big chunk of tree, conveniently located for the ski bus.

Just minutes from the ski lift, this contemporary apartment is in the eye-catching Levi Kunkku building, built in 2020 and containing everything you might need for an Alpine stay in Finland – there are restaurants, bars, and even a karaoke bar. The double-height living room allows for plenty of light to stream in, while the wood-clad walls ensure there’s a cosy lodge vibe to this modern apartment in the mountains. From the living area, you can walk right out onto your very own balcony which provides fantastic views of the front slope – pick out which slope you fancy slaloming down later while drinking your morning coffee. There’s also an all-important Finnish sauna to help you unwind and undo any tightness or knots that may arise after hours out on the mountain, before heading downstairs to the on-site restaurant or bar. If you're looking for a remote location to escape the fuss and flutter of daily life, then this cosy cabin on the banks of Lake Akanjärvi is sure to fit the bill. Set in the woodlands, just over twenty minutes from the resort town of Levi, this home offers the best of both worlds – isolation, tranquillity, and yet only a short drive from civilisation. Plus, there's the added bonus of being a mere 40-metres from a natural beach, shared with neighbouring cabins. It's the perfect spot to get away from it all and embrace the slow pace of the Finnish countryside. We love how the scandi-style interiors give off a modern look, while the plump grey sofas, animal print rugs, wooden structure and stone hearth fireplace keep things extra snug. Drive to the slopes at Ylläs ski resort nearby, set off on one of the many hiking trails from your door or head to the lake for some swimming. Whatever the season, there's plenty of natural beauty to bathe in here.

Bedrooms draw inspiration from their surroundings with patterned wall paper that depicts forest scenes. However you choose to spend your day, finish it by piling into the backlit sauna to sweat it out in true Scandinavian style.

Come winter, it's only a ten-minute drive to Ylläs ski resort – when you're done, get home and bag your space in the private sauna. Evenings are best spent in the living area, in front of the burning fire and watching the TV from the grey L-shaped sofa. If that sounds a bit too chilled out, ski and snowmobile trails run by the space, perfect for exploring this corner of Finland.

This cosy apartment is in an Alpine-style stone house just 150m from the main slope, so during ski season you can pretty much rise and glide.
