A thirty-minute drive from the red rooftops of Avignon, this home allows you to explore the depths of the Provence countryside. In this wonderfully organic landscape, it’s hard to believe you’re just an hour from the metropolis of Marseille. So if lush, verdant scenery is more your thing, this home certainly won’t disappoint.

Jade, forest, emerald, lime, olive, mint – you can use every single word for green to describe the charming exterior of this home. From tall leafy trees, to flowerbeds, to shrubs that flow onto the stone paths, this garden is a botanical marvel set over a hectare. Of course there’s a private pool, but we prefer the shade of the terrace and the boules court. You’ll love having meals at one of many alfresco dining spots, especially when you can cook in the fresh air of the outdoor kitchen.

As the cicadas come out by night, head into the main house. Its wooden doors and shutters are green, naturally. Traditional, rustic decor harks back to this home’s days as a farmhouse, but antique furniture and gilded frames create a luxury edge. Someone will be sleeping in the annexe – but its indoor hot tub might sway opinions a bit.

Les Alpilles is a great place to stay if you’re keen to be active on your holiday – don’t worry though, there’s still plenty of opportunity for eating pastries and sipping wine. Head to the pretty hilltop town of Eygalières – just seventeen minutes away – to ride bikes or take the children pony-trekking. The scenery is breath-taking. History buffs will enjoy a day trip to Avignon, where you’ll find two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The journey takes thirty-eight minutes and you’ll be rewarded with rich history, a lively art and culture scene and Michelin-starred restaurants. 

Back at the villa after a busy day, relax on the terrace with a book while the kids splash in the pool or play on the swings. Once they’ve gone to bed, spend some time in the Jacuzzi gazing up at the night sky.

The Lemon Garden is a delightful farmhouse conversion with huge gardens, meadows, and olive orchards. You'll be able to smell the lavender as soon as you arrive and we highly recommend a daily walk just to take in the natural beauty that surrounds your holiday residence. The Provençal character in this home is extremely powerful — think rustic furnishings, period features, and plenty of outdoor hangouts with natural shade where you can enjoy a glass of local wine. Since you'll be staying only three kilometres from St-Rémy, we strongly recommend that you drive there at least once, finding clues of what inspired Van Gogh to pain some of his most powerful works here. We expect you'll stumble on a few shops along the way and bring back ingredients for a proper meal, then put them together in the well-equipped kitchen. If you have time in your busy schedule, go for a refreshing swim in the private pool and do a bit of reading before dinner. Watch the sunset together from the comfort of your garden and retreat indoors to watch a movie together.

Relax with a good book on the silver velvet sofa, then cook up a Provençal style lunch with ingredients from Avignon Halles, a mere three-minute walk away. However, there are plenty of eateries on your doorstep if you prefer to eat out. Later explore Palais des Papes – one of the most significant medieval Gothic buildings in Europe or watch a production at the Opéra Grand Avignon, both around ten minutes on foot. If nature is more your thing, go for a stroll around Barthelasse Island – there are 700 hectares of countryside to discover, and it's just ten minutes via the ferry.
