Better known for its Atlantic rollers and camping sites, this stretch of the French coast is all about laid-back summer living. On the outskirts of Bidart, this home epitomises that with its clean lines and minimalist style. Using white walls, yellow sofas, and geometric light fittings, the apartment feels modern and new. Chill out on one of the Eames rocking chairs, soak up some rays on the deckchairs or watch what's cooking in the kitchen from the breakfast bar. A small balcony looks out over hills and other homes and is our favourite spot for assessing the conditions for the day's adventures. If surfing is on the cards, it's less than a 10-minute drive to Bidart beach, while Biarritz and its glamorous facade is just 15. Not in the mood for that much activity? We suggest padding down to the communal pool for lengths, before heading back to the terrace for a glass of something icy.

It's the perfect spot to watch the evening draw to a close, savouring a home-cooked meal in the fresh air and enjoying each other's company. With a truly enviable location on the Pyrénées-Atlantiques overlooking the endless blue of the Atlantic Ocean, this 1930s-style villa was made for lazy summer afternoons.

There are a plethora of spots to sit and soak up the sunshine, whether that's surveying the surroundings from the balcony, tucking into dinner on the terrace or reading in the peaceful gardens. If this all sounds a little too inactive, you're more than welcome to notch up a couple of lengths in the swimming pool or hone your forehand on the tennis court.

The interior feels bright and cooling thanks to the white walls, tiled flooring and French doors. An extensive collection of colourful artwork is sure to catch the eye, although it must be said that sports fans will much prefer the foosball table.

When it comes to beaches, both Grand Plage and Plage d'Erromardie sit only twenty minutes' walk from the home, while the portside restaurants and market of St Jean de Luz take slightly longer. The resort town of Biarritz is just a half-hour drive away, too.

One bedroom has a double bed and there's a sofa bed in the living area suitable for one child. Guests can enjoy partial views of the ocean from the apartment. It's conveniently located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, cafes, and public transportation. Additionally, it comes with reserved parking, which is fenced for added security. Please note that smoking is not allowed.

It's on the third floor and offers comfortable and tasteful furnishings, including two small balconies with a side view of the ocean. The open kitchen is equipped with all necessary appliances, including an oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, electric coffee machine (capsules not included), and washing machine. Guests have access to free WiFi and reserved parking (extra fee). Please note that smoking is prohibited in the apartment and a smoke alarm is installed.

The Dreamy Sea

Situated in the curious seaside town of Biarritz, where upscale boutiques sit beside laidback surf shops, this breezy apartment is the perfect base from which to explore France’s southwestern coast. Inside the home, it’s relaxed and light-filled with glorious ocean views from the living space and bedroom. Begin slow mornings with brioche and espresso on your private balcony or potter about in the pale-painted living space, putting together a picnic in the kitchenette ahead of an afternoon at the beach. Choose between the Plage De La Chambre D'Amour, a fifteen-minute stroll from your doorstep, and the Plage Miramar, reached in less than ten minutes by foot. After frolicking in the shallows and basking in the sunshine, take the twenty-minute walk into the centre of town for glasses of full-bodied red in traditional bistros and tastes of artisanal produce in Halles Market – you mustn’t leave without trying a slice of indulgent gâteau basque.

Travel south in France until you’ve nearly reached the border to Spain and that’s where you’ll find this little home located in the coastal commune of Anglet. With a reputation for Atlantic surfing beaches – there are eleven to be exact – this is where you want to retreat to for a properly beachy holiday. The home echoes its location with hues of white and blue, and a particular crispness that’s definitely helped along by yawning balcony doors and the breeze entering through it. 

The kitchen is great for prepping cheese platters, or a quick omelette, but we recommend venturing out to one of the cafes for a breakfast before hitting the beach. For a different kind of adventure, you might also find yourself on a hiking path, playing a round of golf, or kicking back as you wait for fish to bite when you’re out fishing. 

Although there is a casino and a number of night clubs for evening entertainment, we do recommend catching the sunset from the cosy balcony first.

To acquaint yourself with Basque culture, guests can visit nearby medieval Bayonne and sample local cuisine or wander through the narrow streets. With so many spectacular areas to explore, the comfort of this home's living spaces provides a homely atmosphere for relaxation.

This cosy and tranquil pad is a wonderful option for a romantic getaway or a small family stay, with easy access to all the highlights of its gorgeous setting. This corner of France is renowned for its many natural wonders, as well as being a surfer’s dream – and it’s all at your fingertips here. 

The open-plan living room gets plenty of natural light thanks to the huge windows which open directly onto the private garden. Lounge about on the comfy sofa and enjoy evenings of French wine and movie nights in the company of your loved one. You’ll be able to rustle up delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchenette – share them at the indoor dining table or outside in the shadow of the beautiful trees.

While the bedroom may be small in scale, it offers a cosy vibe and a soft bed – wake up restored and get ready to explore the area. Outside your door, you’ll find yourself in the perfect location for reaching the ocean, as well as the forest, which lies just across the fence. Rent a bike and venture down the famous trails or for a day of city strolls you’ll have the choice between the coastal grandeur of Biarritz and the quiet charm of Bayonne, both within a fifteen-minute drive away.

It's spacious, with plenty of room for ten guests to make the most of their stay in this charming area. The interior is simple yet stylish, with a huge fireplace, traditional wooden beams and tiled floors creating a welcoming atmosphere where you can really relax. There's a piano, should you feel like serenading your loved-ones, and a comfortable selection of seating in zesty tangerine and lemon tones. Budding chefs will love picking up some fresh produce from the local market, before heading to the kitchen or the outdoor grill to create some delicious dishes. The private garden has a grassy lawn along with an outdoor entertaining space, where the group can gather for alfresco feasts. Take a stroll down to the Central Beach of Labenne, or hop on your bike to arrive on the sand in just ten minutes. Nature lovers can explore Marais d'Orx National Nature Reserve, while those that prefer a more glamorous day trip can take a thirty-minute car-ride to Biarritz. 

Jus d'Orange

Tucked away in the French countryside, this charming renovated farmhouse provides the ideal retreat for families or groups of friends who want a picturesque escape. While away the hours drinking the finest wines in the open-plan living space with its authentic exposed beams and tiled floors, or head outside and watch the sunset on the vine-draped terrace. 

In the mornings, we recommend grabbing some freshly-baked baguettes from the nearby bakery. In the afternoons, the extensive gardens make a great area for play for young and older alike, and the swimming pool is perfect for a quick nap in the sun. Further afield, you’ll want to visit the beaches at Hossegor, a cosmopolitan surfing hub with chic boutiques and markets.
