A ten-minute drive will take you to the A30, which runs right down the centre of Cornwall, meaning many picturesque beaches and harbour towns are all within a day trip's reach. The River Camel runs through the valley and is accessible to guests who can also fish on the private land here.

Although there are extensive grounds to roam, the home also offers its own enclosed patio for visitors to enjoy – perfect for an alfresco lunch or sunset glass of wine. With its wood burner, this beautiful stone-built barn is a cosy retreat for those looking for an escape from urban life, offering a warm welcome after a long day spent exploring. This beautiful barn conversion gives a completely different taste of Cornish life, which is one of the reasons it’s so special. Nestled quietly down a lane, surrounded by countryside, it’s not what many people picture when they have a vision of Cornwall. But, if you’re craving the coast, it’s still perfectly accessible by bike or car, depending on your preference (and energy levels!). Hop on your bike and cycle the stunning Camel Trail, situated right next to your cottage. An eighteen-mile stretch overall, this tranquil trail follows a disused railway line through the wooded Camel Valley and can take you all the way to Padstow for your seaside fix. If cycling's not your thing, don’t worry, the A30 is only ten minutes or so away in the car, so you can reach the coast in no time at all. 

After a day out hiking, cycling and making the most of the nature on your doorstep, head back home where your cottage waits to welcome you. With vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and some seriously funky sofas, you can sit back and relax in your living area as light floods in from outside. If the sun is still shining, head outside to your seating area with a bottle of wine and settle down for an evening of peaceful quiet and serene conversation, as the sun sets over the fields beside you.

Original timber beams and exposed stone walls hark back to the barn's heyday, but the electric car charging point, rainfall shower and Sonos speakers are just a few of the 21st-century updates. This is the perfect spot for a family to unwind in the Cornish countryside. While parents rustle up a meal in the kitchen, kids can hang out in their own room, playing on the Xbox One. On summer evenings, everyone will enjoy a barbecue in the courtyard before retreating inside to the cosy living area for a movie night, but when the weather turns nippy, cuddle up by the log burner instead. There's plenty to get up to in the local area, too. You're almost equidistant from both the North and South coasts of Cornwall. Spend a day at the beach in Padstow or visit historic Charlestown, both of which are less than a forty-minute drive away. This cosy Cornish cottage is an exemplary example of boutique living. There are all sorts of quirky additions to the interior that lend a sense of personality, from the record player and acoustic guitar to the book collection with plenty of local guides. The welcome gift of Cornish wine and produce is also a lovely touch.

That being said, all the essentials are nailed, too. In the living room, the wood-burning stove will really come into its own during colder evenings, as will the pretty freestanding tub in the bathroom. The long turquoise kitchen is plenty big enough for whipping up hearty suppers after a long day of exploring Cornwall's great outdoors.

If you're into your rambling, Bodmin Moor starts just over five minutes' drive from your front door, with stone circles and tors to punctuate your walking. Both Fistral and Polzeath Beaches take around forty minutes to reach in the car. If, however, you want to see the local area on two wheels, the home comes with a pair of bicycles that guests are more than welcome to borrow and the Camel Trail lies two minutes' pedal from the front door.

Only a half-hour drive from the coast and the beaches, you're not far from the action. Fill your days with hiking the coastal paths, surfing the waves and exploring the many villages and small towns that North Cornwall is known for – both Wadebridge and Bodmin are less than twenty minutes away by car, while Padstow is just a little further, about a thirty-minute drive.

Passing Afternoon

It's fair to say that this Cornish farmhouse and piggery has undergone quite the transformation. Inside, guests will find a pleasing mix of wooden floorboards, grey tiling and the odd burst of refreshing blue on the walls. There are nods to the buildings' former purpose in the shape of the gleaming white Aga in the kitchen and the log-burner in the living room, but otherwise, it's a thoroughly modern affair. Outside, there's a Scandi-style, wood-fired hot tub to see you through the evenings, as well as a barbecue and plenty of outdoor seating on which to lounge back and enjoy the silence that abounds in this corner of England. Although the home's location feels secluded, there's plenty to keep you occupied during your stay — both the town of Padstow and the Eden Project take only twenty-five minutes to reach in the car.

Ideally nestled into the east bank of the River Fowey, this lovely home offers plenty of space for up to eight guests in a tranquil setting. From inside the cottage, you can enjoy picturesque views of the river and the many estuary birds that visit during low tide. For four hours of either side of high tide, you can head out for some boating. 

Thanks to plenty of lawn equipment, the garden is ideal for dining alfresco and playing games. But that’s not all – the large, fully equipped kitchen offers a great setting for socialising, and with not one but two sitting rooms, there’s plenty of space for everyone to claim a corner for themselves when they want some time on their own. 

On colder nights, feel free to light the wood-burning stove and make yourself comfortable on the sumptuous sofas. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms are equipped with twin beds, making this home an excellent choice for a family.

Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

Boconnoc is a little parish just a few miles outside of Lostwithiel, one of Cornwall's most sought-after rural villages. Staying here will give you the comfort of choosing whether you prefer the peace and quiet of the estate or the somewhat livelier compact village up the road where you can find a few brilliant gastropubs. Of course, nothing is stopping you from taking the car to other places like Fowey and the Eden Project as the whole of the peninsula is well-marked and the roads can easily take you quite far in under an hour. The cottage itself is a beautifully refurbished affair, draped in bold colours and furnished with comfortable furniture. You'll get plenty of light, access to the estate's tennis courts and games room, as well as the option of getting fresh seasonal produce delivered from the kitchen garden. If you're looking to really put your feet up and relax, the host can organise a private chef and regular in-house cleaning.

Just a stone's throw away from the shops, restaurants and waterfront of Fowley, this central apartment offers a convenient spot to a couple, solo traveller or pair of friends (plus one small pooch) looking to experience Cornwall. While the location is everything here, the apartment's modern home comforts make it all the more special. From the comfy interiors of the living to the luxurious bathtub and snuggly bed – the space makes chilling out between days on the beach easy as can be. If you arrive by car, do note that there is no private parking available on-site – the local public car parks of Fowey are just a five-minute stroll away. Or, take advantage of the train route to Par and then the 20-minute bus to Fowey, if you'd prefer to leave the car at home.

As one of a few cottages that comprise Boconnoc's Stable Yard, Kindred Souls has the privilege of peace and quiet, as well as unlimited access to the estate's tennis court and games room. The nearby holiday destination of Lostwithiel is only four miles away and offers a few brilliant places to eat, but you'll also be staying quite near to the Eden Project and the seaside wonders of Fowey. While the outside of this cottage is pleasantly traditional, the insides are bold and stylish. There are plenty of vivid colours, soft forniture that you can melt into after a long day of exploring, and a lovely wood-burning stove. If you want to focus on relaxation, not household chores, you can get fresh seasonal produce delivered from the garden kitchen and even book a private chef to whip up something magical with them. The host also offers regular cleaning and a little bird told us that there will be a little Cornish present waiting for you on arrival. 

Kindred Souls

The first thing to mention with this home has to be the marvellous location. Not only is it in the middle of one of Cornwall's prettiest villages, but it also has a superb view of the River Camel from the front garden. Here, it's possible to sit at the table eating a dinner fresh off the barbecue and watch the boats bobbing about in the water.

It seems that the interior designer was all too aware of this stunning scenery, as many of the windows have had their ledges converted into seating so you can take a perch with a book. All throughout, the decor is heavy on soothing neutrals and nautical-themed artwork, while the sleek white kitchen is contemporarily styled. The presence of a log burner is also sure to be appreciated after a day of swimming in the sea.

Rock Beach sits just below the home, with Daymer Bay Beach a thirty minute coastal walk from here, and Polzeath a further thirty minutes also. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants close to the home, as well as a sailing club. If you want to explore more of Cornwall, the passenger ferry to Padstow leaves from Rock just a few minutes walk from the home.

The colourful town of Fowey is often named one of the most beautiful places in England, and this sleek penthouse is right in the thick of it. You’re no more than a ten-minute walk from seafood eateries, traditional pubs and the pretty harbour with bobbing fishing boats. Plus, the sandy Readymoney Cove is only a twenty-minute stroll away. Drop your bags, grab the cricket set and beach tent provided by your host, and while away the hours on the seashore. When you’re salty-haired and worn out, your bright home welcomes you with open arms. Sink into the sofa with a tipple from the gin cabinet or pop open a bottle of fizz on the private balcony. Dollop cream and jam on scones at the cosy breakfast bar, before admiring the walls adorned with prints by local artist Becky Bettesworth. And when it’s time to retreat to the land of nod, luxurious bedrooms await.

Tucked away in the charming streets of Padstow, this laid-back cottage blends a youthful personality with rustic roots. That's why wooden beams, flagstone floors and crates repurposed as tables rub shoulders with industrial-chic lighting, comfy furnishings in bold colours and dazzlingly white bathrooms complete with rainfall showers. 

After a long day by the seaside, put your feet up in front of the log burner with a good book and a glass of wine in hand. We also liked the large blue kitchen, where you can cook up a storm when you're feeling peckish – the pendant lights hanging above the island are actually made from old kilner jars – as well as the bedrooms with their antique French beds, which will add a sense of occasion to your nightly routine. 

Although the local neighbourhood feels residential, the town's lively harbour and the surrounding cafes, gourmet restaurants and seaside pubs can be reached in under five minutes on foot. There's no shortage of beautiful beaches in North Cornwall either, with St George’s Cove a twenty-minute trek along the South West Coast Path and Hawker's Cove an eleven-minute drive away. All in all, it's a great place to call home on your Cornish getaway.

One of our favourite things about this home has to be the garden, and we think it is the perfect place to sit back with a glass of wine and really savour that holiday feeling. Fancy a little something extra? For an additional fee, you can have the hot tub at your disposal throughout your stay. Perfect for soaking any tired muscles or simply enjoying an evening of unadulterated relaxation.

Craving some time away from the mundane? This Cornish retreat, located just 2.5 miles away from Fowey and a ten-minute walk away from Par Sands Beach is a dreamy spot from which to escape the daily grind. With its cottage-like aesthetic, the home offers all the necessary home comforts to ensure a comfortable stay. Laid out like a studio, the living area and bedroom present an open space to kick back in after a day of taking in the surrounding nature. A muted colour palette of creams and greys, alongside the earthy hues of the wooden furnishings and flooring, create a humble abode, that proves easy to cosy up in and relax. The kitchen leads out onto a private terrace, where guests can lap up the sunshine on a summer's afternoon or watch the bats flying around at dusk. Pick apples from the many apple trees around the property when venturing out along the nature-filled pathways. When you return back, there's even a useful little handheld shower outside for muddy boots and rinsing off the dogs. Once you've worked up an appetite, light up the barbecue for an evening in – since there's no light pollution here, you'll see the glimmering stars light up the sky on a clear night. The home is idyllically situated down a picturesque farm track surrounded by fields – meaning a peaceful night's sleep is undoubtedly on the cards. Enjoy walks down to the local pub at the bottom of the hill for a nightcap and leisurely strolls along the southwest coastal path (just a ten-minute walk away) during the light of the daytime. With the nearest Co-op supermarket only a mile away and Cornwall Newquay Airport, just a thirty-minute drive away for those travelling from further afield – you won't have to compromise on convenience here either.

Set on the side of a hill and overlooking the River Fowey as it meets the sea, this stunning home has views to die for. With a waterfront position, it looks out across the estuary from all the main rooms so you can watch the water from morning to night. In the little village of Polruan, you'll be just opposite the popular town of Fowey, known for its trendy shops and eateries. An unusual home, you enter from ground level to an immaculate and bright open-plan living room. Thanks to the slope, although it's ground level at the front of the house, you'll feel you've stepped into a top floor apartment when you see the views from the rear. With vaulted ceilings and skylights, the all-white space is modern and comfortable, with a smart kitchen, big dining table and cosy seating area. Patio doors open to a private deck – the perfect spot to sit back with a glass of wine and just take it all in. Downstairs you'll find all the bedrooms and bathrooms – three with river views – and outside you have access across the lawn to a small mooring on the waterfront. With a shop and a pub just a few steps away from the home, you could easily spend your days here, but it's just a quick car ferry ride from the quay across to Fowey, or follow the coastal path for a hike towards Lantic Bay beach.

Star Sailor

Found in the quaint Cornish village of Trevone, this home is the key to unlocking the stretch of coast between the more popular options of Newquay and Polzeath. Start off at Trevone Bay and work your way towards Harlyn Bay Beach, Treyarnon Bay and Pentire Steps Beach without driving more than twenty minutes out. Be sure to stop off at the beautiful Trevose Head Lighthouse along the way. 

Reflecting the beauty of its coastal surroundings, the inside of the home has a calm sense about it. Soft blues, crisp whites and wooden elements make the vibrant colours of the dining set pop, adding a quirky touch to an otherwise sophisticated space. Sit around the table to eat or take your meals outside for an alfresco experience around the picnic-style bench. 

Bookworms will delight in the little library on offer here – select whatever draws you in most and curl up on the sofa next to the wood-burning stove to read whilst nursing a freshly brewed coffee from the cafetiere. 

The conservatory makes for a great social space, so gather together after dinner to enjoy a bottle, or two, of wine before taking a soak in the tub before doing it all again the next day.

This cosy barn-turned-cottage is a tranquil escape for couples looking to discover what gems dot the North Cornish coast. From here, it's a quick drive to Padstow, Port Isaac and Tintagel, their beaches and historical landmarks. Closer to home, scenic walks on Bodmin Moor or the Camel Trail might also call solo hikers to hunker down here. Though the rustic style might not be everyone's cup of tea, it's comfortable for two, and we feel the exposed beams and wood-burning stove add to the homeliness of the space. The picnic bench in the garden is a welcome addition for alfresco meals and sunset drinks.

Tucked away in delightful Polruan with its own secret, walled courtyard garden beyond the gate, this charming cottage is the perfect Cornish retreat. The south-facing patio has a lovely Mediterranean vibe with its lush plants and terracotta flowerpots. Head through the stable door, and you’ll find a colourful kitchen perfect for cooking up a seafood feast. This home is a house of joy and is ideal for a family or two couples.

Out and about, there are shops, cafes and two village pubs a short stroll away. The harbourside and glorious coastal walks are right on your doorstep. Or do some beachcombing – the seashore is 400 metres away. Polruan Castle, on the other hand, is a five-minute stroll. If you want to explore the town of Fowey opposite, the Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary in under fifteen minutes, or a ten-minute drive will take you to the Bodinnick Car Ferry.

Quaint Cornish living and refined elegance come together in this stunning home. It’s in a wonderful location in beautiful Padstow, and has been recently redesigned to guarantee that guests have the most luxurious stay possible – it ticks every box. 

The house is just a seven-minute walk from the centre of Padstow and its pretty, characterful harbour. Perhaps you’ll stroll into town first thing for breakfast in one of the many cafes and restaurants, before making your way to the beach. Lower Beach is our favourite, and it’s just an eighteen-minute walk from the house. Take along your bucket and spade and make memories in this most picturesque part of the UK. 

When you make your way back to the house, sun-kissed and sandy, fire up the barbecue. Spend your evening in the garden, admiring the views of the Camel Estuary and watching the sun slowly set. The garden is the jewel in the crown of this lovely home, with comfortable seating and bi-folding doors than can be opened wide to give the living space a holiday feel.
