The River Camel runs through the valley and is accessible to guests who can also fish on the private land here.

This beautiful barn conversion gives a completely different taste of Cornish life, which is one of the reasons it’s so special. Nestled quietly down a lane, surrounded by countryside, it’s not what many people picture when they have a vision of Cornwall. But, if you’re craving the coast, it’s still perfectly accessible by bike or car, depending on your preference (and energy levels!). Hop on your bike and cycle the stunning Camel Trail, situated right next to your cottage. An eighteen-mile stretch overall, this tranquil trail follows a disused railway line through the wooded Camel Valley and can take you all the way to Padstow for your seaside fix. If cycling's not your thing, don’t worry, the A30 is only ten minutes or so away in the car, so you can reach the coast in no time at all. 

After a day out hiking, cycling and making the most of the nature on your doorstep, head back home where your cottage waits to welcome you. With vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and some seriously funky sofas, you can sit back and relax in your living area as light floods in from outside. If the sun is still shining, head outside to your seating area with a bottle of wine and settle down for an evening of peaceful quiet and serene conversation, as the sun sets over the fields beside you.

This is the perfect spot for a family to unwind in the Cornish countryside. While parents rustle up a meal in the kitchen, kids can hang out in their own room, playing on the Xbox One. On summer evenings, everyone will enjoy a barbecue in the courtyard before retreating inside to the cosy living area for a movie night, but when the weather turns nippy, cuddle up by the log burner instead. It's fair to say that this Cornish farmhouse and piggery has undergone quite the transformation. This cosy Cornish cottage is an exemplary example of boutique living. There are all sorts of quirky additions to the interior that lend a sense of personality, from the record player and acoustic guitar to the book collection with plenty of local guides. The welcome gift of Cornish wine and produce is also a lovely touch.

That being said, all the essentials are nailed, too. In the living room, the wood-burning stove will really come into its own during colder evenings, as will the pretty freestanding tub in the bathroom. The long turquoise kitchen is plenty big enough for whipping up hearty suppers after a long day of exploring Cornwall's great outdoors.

If you're into your rambling, Bodmin Moor starts just over five minutes' drive from your front door, with stone circles and tors to punctuate your walking. Both Fistral and Polzeath Beaches take around forty minutes to reach in the car. If, however, you want to see the local area on two wheels, the home comes with a pair of bicycles that guests are more than welcome to borrow and the Camel Trail lies two minutes' pedal from the front door.

The nearby holiday destination of Lostwithiel is only four miles away and offers a few brilliant places to eat, but you'll also be staying quite near to the Eden Project and the seaside wonders of Fowey. While the outside of this cottage is pleasantly traditional, the insides are bold and stylish. There are plenty of vivid colours, soft forniture that you can melt into after a long day of exploring, and a lovely wood-burning stove. If you want to focus on relaxation, not household chores, you can get fresh seasonal produce delivered from the garden kitchen and even book a private chef to whip up something magical with them. The host also offers regular cleaning and a little bird told us that there will be a little Cornish present waiting for you on arrival.

Boconnoc is a little parish just a few miles outside of Lostwithiel, one of Cornwall's most sought-after rural villages. Staying here will give you the comfort of choosing whether you prefer the peace and quiet of the estate or the somewhat livelier compact village up the road where you can find a few brilliant gastropubs. Of course, nothing is stopping you from taking the car to other places like Fowey and the Eden Project as the whole of the peninsula is well-marked and the roads can easily take you quite far in under an hour. The cottage itself is a beautifully refurbished affair, draped in bold colours and furnished with comfortable furniture. You'll get plenty of light, access to the estate's tennis courts and games room, as well as the option of getting fresh seasonal produce delivered from the kitchen garden. Laid out like a studio, the living area and bedroom present an open space to kick back in after a day of taking in the surrounding nature. A muted colour palette of creams and greys, alongside the earthy hues of the wooden furnishings and flooring, create a humble abode, that proves easy to cosy up in and relax. The kitchen leads out onto a private terrace, where guests can lap up the sunshine on a summer's afternoon or watch the bats flying around at dusk. Pick apples from the many apple trees around the property when venturing out along the nature-filled pathways. When you return back, there's even a useful little handheld shower outside for muddy boots and rinsing off the dogs. Once you've worked up an appetite, light up the barbecue for an evening in – since there's no light pollution here, you'll see the glimmering stars light up the sky on a clear night. This is the sort of holiday home in which cherished memories are made. Located just ten minutes' walk from both Polzeath Beach and Daymer Bay Beach, there are plenty of ways to enjoy bursts of sunny weather in the local area, or without leaving the home at all. Out in the garden, for instance, there's an enclosed lawn complete with an alfresco table and a charcoal barbecue.

If the sun disappears behind the clouds at any point, you can take a seat in the conservatory and wait for it to reappear or — if the temperature really dips — play some board games in front of the log burner fire in the living room. Alternatively, the pastel blue kitchen and island is ready and waiting for when you want to cook up a feast.

Aside from the seaside, the South West Coast Path can be joined in twenty-five minutes' walk and Bodmin Moor sits half an hour's drive away. It's also a thirty minute walk along the beach to boating, shops and eateries in Rock and the ferry to Padstow. There's a renowned gastropub three minutes' walk down the road, and the 4-star St Moritz Hotel and Spa is around the corner should you fancy a spot of pampering.

The Longest Day

The first thing to mention with this home has to be the marvellous location. Not only is it in the middle of one of Cornwall's prettiest villages, but it also has a superb view of the River Camel from the front garden. Here, it's possible to sit at the table eating a dinner fresh off the barbecue and watch the boats bobbing about in the water.

It seems that the interior designer was all too aware of this stunning scenery, as many of the windows have had their ledges converted into seating so you can take a perch with a book. All throughout, the decor is heavy on soothing neutrals and nautical-themed artwork, while the sleek white kitchen is contemporarily styled. The presence of a log burner is also sure to be appreciated after a day of swimming in the sea.

Rock Beach sits just below the home, with Daymer Bay Beach a thirty minute coastal walk from here, and Polzeath a further thirty minutes also. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants close to the home, as well as a sailing club. If you want to explore more of Cornwall, the passenger ferry to Padstow leaves from Rock just a few minutes walk from the home.

With views across the harbour to Readymoney Cove, this Cornish home has a splendid location. The coastal path is just yards away, so you’ll have idyllic walks right on your doorstep. The nearest beach is just over 800 metres away, as are bars and a grocery store, while Polruan Castle is just over 200 metres from this home. Fowey, with its art galleries, boutiques and fantastic restaurants, is nearby too. The Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary to Fowey in under fifteen minutes.

Pick up some fresh produce, barbecue a Cornish feast, and enjoy it on your terrace while you look out to sea. The glorious seascape can be admired from the living room and every bedroom too, which we adore. The spacious eat-in kitchen will easily accommodate all the gang – this place is perfect for a family or a group of friends.


Readymoney Cove Vistas

Ideally nestled into the east bank of the River Fowey, this lovely home offers plenty of space for up to eight guests in a tranquil setting. From inside the cottage, you can enjoy picturesque views of the river and the many estuary birds that visit during low tide. For four hours of either side of high tide, you can head out for some boating. 

Thanks to plenty of lawn equipment, the garden is ideal for dining alfresco and playing games. But that’s not all – the large, fully equipped kitchen offers a great setting for socialising, and with not one but two sitting rooms, there’s plenty of space for everyone to claim a corner for themselves when they want some time on their own. 

On colder nights, feel free to light the wood-burning stove and make yourself comfortable on the sumptuous sofas. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms are equipped with twin beds, making this home an excellent choice for a family.

Utterly enchanting were our thoughts when we first saw this beautifully renovated Grade II listed Charlestown home – this place is very special indeed. Relax in the lovely, secluded south-facing garden or in the glass-covered courtyard filled with scented jasmine and verdant tree ferns – it's the perfect spot for a glass of Cornish fizz in the evening while doing a bit of star gazing. 

We love the bedroom, which is open to the rafters, as well as its cast-iron freestanding bathtub. On stormy nights, you may even hear the sound of the waves – what a wonderful way to fall asleep.

The following day, help yourself to tea or coffee, and feast on scrumptious Cornish cinnamon buns, provided courtesy of your hosts Antonia and David. They can also deliver oven-ready meals for lunch or dinner. 

If you prefer to eat out, there are an array of tempting restaurants on your doorstep to choose from. Or pop to the deli and take a picnic down to Charlestown Beach, a one-minute stroll away. Other beaches to try in the area include the golden sands of Porthpean, a five-minute drive. For history lovers, the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre is a one-minute saunter, or keen hikers can have a walk around Gribben Head, a fifteen-minute drive from this home.



The Enchanted Pearl

Tucked away in the charming streets of Padstow, this laid-back cottage blends a youthful personality with rustic roots. That's why wooden beams, flagstone floors and crates repurposed as tables rub shoulders with industrial-chic lighting, comfy furnishings in bold colours and dazzlingly white bathrooms complete with rainfall showers. 

After a long day by the seaside, put your feet up in front of the log burner with a good book and a glass of wine in hand. We also liked the large blue kitchen, where you can cook up a storm when you're feeling peckish – the pendant lights hanging above the island are actually made from old kilner jars – as well as the bedrooms with their antique French beds, which will add a sense of occasion to your nightly routine. 

Although the local neighbourhood feels residential, the town's lively harbour and the surrounding cafes, gourmet restaurants and seaside pubs can be reached in under five minutes on foot. There's no shortage of beautiful beaches in North Cornwall either, with St George’s Cove a twenty-minute trek along the South West Coast Path and Hawker's Cove an eleven-minute drive away. All in all, it's a great place to call home on your Cornish getaway.

Woodbine Cottage

This cosy barn-turned-cottage is a tranquil escape for couples looking to discover what gems dot the North Cornish coast. From here, it's a quick drive to Padstow, Port Isaac and Tintagel, their beaches and historical landmarks. Closer to home, scenic walks on Bodmin Moor or the Camel Trail might also call solo hikers to hunker down here. Though the rustic style might not be everyone's cup of tea, it's comfortable for two, and we feel the exposed beams and wood-burning stove add to the homeliness of the space. The picnic bench in the garden is a welcome addition for alfresco meals and sunset drinks.

Situated right on the water in pretty Polruan, this cottage is quite a find. The terrace offers panoramic views of boats bobbing on the estuary, making it the perfect place for alfresco dinners and sunset drinks. Inside is utterly charming, with an eat-in kitchen, a cosy lounge with a fireplace, and a trio of comfortable bedrooms. Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.
