Bursting with character, this cute-as-a-button barn conversion found on a forty-acre Cornish farm offers a real escape from the stresses of modern life. You'll have all the charming rustic touches you would hope for — exposed stone walls, a vaulted ceiling and a log burner — but there's a modern feel, and absolutely no chintz. You can slip into your own wood-fired hot tub just outside the back door, and the host has been thoughtful enough to provide a generous stack of logs to get you started. Meet the farm animals or set off alongside the private Nature Reserve to discover the private shingle beach on the River Tamar. Later, take advantage of some of the farm's other surprises — a communal games room with ping-pong, a shared tennis court, a hammock hidden away in the orchard, and a basketball hoop. With a number of extra activities also bookable, you can take part in a foraging workshop, try out stand-up paddleboarding or get involved in local wine tasting. Alternatively, you can drive to the port city of Plymouth in about forty minutes and visit the National Marine Aquarium.

Apple Bobbing

Get away from it all at this 13th-century mill home, sitting pretty in a wooded river valley and just a five-minute drive or twenty-minute walk from Cornwall's mighty southwest coast path and the River Fowey. 

Inside, there's nothing run-of-the-mill about this carefully and elegantly reimagined period abode. Once you're done gawping over the magnificence of the mill's inner working (make sure to ask your host about the fascinating history), you'll love the flairs of unexpected modernity of the home's interiors. Vibrant textiles and contemporary artwork bring a dash of colour, while period features and antique furniture ooze character and charm.

Sunny mornings call for alfresco breakfasts beneath the dapple of the apple tree in the private enclosed garden before an amble through the seven acres of water meadows and magical woodlands beyond. At night, rustle up a meal beneath the dramatic gabled ceilings of the sociable kitchen where cooking is a joy. Then hunker down beside the wood stove – the bookcases stuffed with classics and board games will be all the entertainment you need.

When it's time to discover the beauty of the Cornish Riveria, you've picked just the right spot. Perched between the picturesque fishing villages of Polruan and Bodinnick, ​you're just a leafy twenty-minute stroll to the South West Coast Path and the Fowey River. Or, if you're keen to get within sight of the sea straight away, you can leave your car at the nearby National Trust car parks (a five-minute drive) and dive right in.

The Water Mill

Inspired by the light at Barbara Hepworth’s house in St Ives, the owners have crafted the perfect artist’s studio – a place to retreat, rest and be inspired by the beauty of life.

Tucked behind a Georgian–listed house overlooking the historic harbour of Charlestown, this is a wonderful setting to experience the atmospheric charm of Cornwall. And with its elegant styling and traditional features, there’s a quiet joy to this home that makes you want to settle in and stay. 

You’ll love waking up and stepping into the private garden – this is a lovely spot to feel the refreshing sea breeze as you drink your morning coffee. Inside, the space is sensitively designed to feel intimate and cosy – at night you can hear the calming sound of waves in the distance. 

And when you feel inspired to explore, it’s just a short stroll down to the beach and across the quay to the village. Here you’ll find a lovely pub, restaurant, cafe, deli and antique shop, while other highlights like the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are less than a twenty–minute drive away. 

Pearl in the Sea

Boconnoc is a little parish just a few miles outside of Lostwithiel, one of Cornwall's most sought-after rural villages. Staying here will give you the comfort of choosing whether you prefer the peace and quiet of the estate or the somewhat livelier compact village up the road where you can find a few brilliant gastropubs. Of course, nothing is stopping you from taking the car to other places like Fowey and the Eden Project as the whole of the peninsula is well-marked and the roads can easily take you quite far in under an hour. The cottage itself is a beautifully refurbished affair, draped in bold colours and furnished with comfortable furniture. You'll get plenty of light, access to the estate's tennis courts and games room, as well as the option of getting fresh seasonal produce delivered from the kitchen garden. If you're looking to really put your feet up and relax, the host can organise a private chef and regular in-house cleaning. 

Kindred Spirits

Newly renovated, this stylish property with bags of character in the delightful village of Tywardreath (pronounced 'Taow-dreth', for those wondering). A historic stone cottage with beautiful period features, it boasts a uniquely charming blend of a traditional feel with all the modern decor and appliances you could need for a comfortable, memorable stay. 

Just a short walk to local village shops and pubs, and a stone's throw from the captivating Cornish coastline that has inspired a thousand writers and artists over the centuries, this home provides the ideal base for experiencing all the very best that the South-West has to offer.  

Take the ten-minute walk to the pristine sands of the dog-friendly Par Beach, or head over to the dramatic cliffs of Carlyon Bay or the sheltered bay of Polkerris, which are both also nearby and offer a selection of eateries along the shoreline. For those with a hankering for hiking, there are plenty of lovely walking trails right out of the front door, including some of the most varied stretches of the South West Coast Path. The ever-popular seaside town of Fowey is also within easy reach, and if you fancy getting out on the water itself then some of Cornwall's best paddle-boarding can be enjoyed at nearby Golant.

No matter how you end up spending the day, you can always look forward to returning to this traditional yet chicly-finished cottage. As soon as you step through the doors, you'll be greeted by a warm and cosy interior that's really brought to life by the addition of funky patterned wallpaper, notes of brilliant blue, and eye-catching original stone detailing. Sink into the generous sofas in front of the feature fireplace with log burner or crack open the family board games to fire up a little friendly competition. There are also children's DVDs and even a toy chest to keep the little ones entertained, making this an ideal space to unwind after a long day of exploring the coast.

Alternatively, why not catch the last of the evening sun out on the patio or the raised lawn area? Or enjoy a glass of wine in the enclosed courtyard while dinner's underway in the traditional Aga-style oven? Ah, it's the simple things...

Primrose Cottage

Just a stone's throw away from the shops, restaurants and waterfront of Fowley, this central apartment offers a convenient spot to a couple, solo traveller or pair of friends (plus one small pooch) looking to experience Cornwall. While the location is everything here, the apartment's modern home comforts make it all the more special. From the comfy interiors of the living to the luxurious bathtub and snuggly bed – the space makes chilling out between days on the beach easy as can be. If you arrive by car, do note that there is no private parking available on-site – the local public car parks of Fowey are just a five-minute stroll away. Or, take advantage of the train route to Par and then the 20-minute bus to Fowey, if you'd prefer to leave the car at home.



Wild Flowers & Watercress

This cosy white cottage is set in the beautiful village of Lustleigh, named one of the prettiest UK villages by The Telegraph in 2019. Wander through the intimate interior and onto the quaint streets and it's a postcard picture image at every turn.

The restful haven has a warm energy that makes it a dreamy spot all year round. In the spring and summer, the sun shines on the cottaged houses and Lustleigh radiates in a jubilant mood. Come the colder months, the snug living room, with a log burner, is a quiet spot to curl up with a book or film. 

If the weather allows, you're expertly placed to explore the natural beauty of Dartmoor National Park. Bring snacks and plenty of water before you embark on a journey across the scenic walking trails. It's an idyllic location for picnics underneath the summer sun.

If the weather isn't on your side, settle into the comfort of your home. The deluxe bathtub is tailor-made for those wet, winter nights when you want to escape to your tranquil refuge.

A Chocolate Box

Be your own Lord and Lady of the Manor at this bucolic cottage tucked away on the grounds of a Georgian stately home in Cornwall.

With a spread of deer parklands and lakes (wild swimming and paddle boarding, anyone?) on your doorstep, there’s heaps to keep you busy here. Channel the good life, collecting fresh eggs and picking vegetables from the kitchen garden. Up the ante with tennis on the court or table tennis in the games barn, which you’ll share with the other four homes dotted about the grounds. Or simply lose yourself to the expansive landscaped gardens seeking out the historical monuments along the way.

When the Cornish coast comes calling, take your pick from the north and south coast – you’re perched between them both. Our vote goes to Polperro Beach (a 15.4 kilometre drive) for bucket and spade days or, for a little more bustle, an afternoon in Fowey is just the ticket.

Back home, those pretty arched windows and clapboard vaulted ceilings are the stars of the show here. Look elsewhere, and you’ll uncover thoughtful touches like freshly-cut flowers and a welcome hamper filled with goodies in the shaker-style kitchen to make your stay unique. While over in the restful bedrooms, each with en-suites, you can tell an interior designer has been working their magic with modern floral textiles nailing the British eccentric style. And the icing on the cake? That suntrap, private terrace surrounded by blooming flowers to while away the long summer nights.

Out in Bloom

Set in a former hotel, this home is an excellent choice for exploring some of Cornwall's prettiest corners while avoiding the crowds. It’s a minutes’ drive from the bustling port of Looe, where we love to mosey around the model village, gorge on the catch of the day at a restaurant or perch on the sheltered beach. Polperro is also close by, a ten minutes’ drive away, with its cobbled streets and local pubs. Back at home, you’ll find a relaxing bright environment with beachy vibes. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.

Oak Meadow Rest

Tucked away in Mevagissey, this quaint cottage oozes coastal charm. An effortless mix of old and new, you’re hit by bold, brilliant blue cabinetry that’s sleek and modern, sitting alongside exposed stonework and wooden beams as you step into the kitchen. We love the attention to detail with the decor, with the seaside vibe flowing throughout the home – our particular favourite is the seagull pattern you’ll find on cushions and lampshades, carrying you on a tour around the cottage. Spend quiet evenings curled up on the corner sofa to enjoy a movie night or get lost in a story with your holiday read – it’s the perfect way to relax after a busy day exploring the Cornish coast that surrounds you. 

Before heading out for the day, rustle up a tasty full English and settle down at the kitchen table to plan for the day ahead with your loved ones. Suitably nourished, stroll to the harbour and while away a few hours exploring the independent shops that line the waterfront. Further afield, you can reach The Lost Gardens of Heligan by car in fifteen minutes, or The Eden Project in around twenty. Never short of things to do, you’ll be grateful for your calming coastal retreat, just the place to return to after a fun-filled day. 

Come Sail With Me

When you imagine a stereotypically Cornish cottage, this quaint whitewashed home covered in cascading roses can’t be far from the mark. 

Inside, this romance continues. The soft-hued interior is cosy and oh-so-delicate, with pretty pinks and soft greys mixed with nautical touches and vintage-style furnishings. That being said, the kitchen and bathroom lie on the more contemporary side.

Out through the back door, guests also get the run of a lush green garden with sea views, which you can admire while sitting on the patio with the barbecue smoking away in the background. An added bonus comes in the shape of a sea-blue summer house full of candy-coloured cushions just waiting for you to recline with a good book.

In the local area, the pretty fishing port of Looe can be reached in around fifteen minutes on foot, while the sandy Plaidy Beach is only five minutes' walk. If you're in the mood for a longer excursion, the South West Coast Path is easily reached, too.

Sugar Flowers

This upper-floor apartment is a great getaway for a family with young children. The cabin bedroom may not be well-suited for adults, but doubling up as another TV room, it’ll most likely be the little ones' favourite area of the home. The pad also boasts a lovely terrace, which guests can make the most of on those sunny Cornish days. From here, you have panoramic views of the picturesque town of Fowey and the river, which are easily accessible thanks to the central location.
