Utterly enchanting were our thoughts when we first saw this beautifully renovated Grade II listed Charlestown home – this place is very special indeed. Relax in the lovely, secluded south-facing garden or in the glass-covered courtyard filled with scented jasmine and verdant tree ferns – it's the perfect spot for a glass of Cornish fizz in the evening while doing a bit of star gazing. 

We love the bedroom, which is open to the rafters, as well as its cast-iron freestanding bathtub. On stormy nights, you may even hear the sound of the waves – what a wonderful way to fall asleep.

The following day, help yourself to tea or coffee, and feast on scrumptious Cornish cinnamon buns, provided courtesy of your hosts Antonia and David. They can also deliver oven-ready meals for lunch or dinner. 

If you prefer to eat out, there are an array of tempting restaurants on your doorstep to choose from. Or pop to the deli and take a picnic down to Charlestown Beach, a one-minute stroll away. Other beaches to try in the area include the golden sands of Porthpean, a five-minute drive. For history lovers, the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre is a one-minute saunter, or keen hikers can have a walk around Gribben Head, a fifteen-minute drive from this home.

On warm summer days, the two beaches on either side of the quay are great swimming spots, and the surfing beach of Watergate Bay can be reached in twenty minutes by car.

Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

This Cornish retreat, located just 2.5 miles away from Fowey and a ten-minute walk away from Par Sands Beach is a dreamy spot from which to escape the daily grind. Laid out like a studio, the living area and bedroom present an open space to kick back in after a day of taking in the surrounding nature. If you arrive by car, do note that there is no private parking available on-site – the local public car parks of Fowey are just a five-minute stroll away. Or, take advantage of the train route to Par and then the 20-minute bus to Fowey, if you'd prefer to leave the car at home.

With a waterfront position, it looks out across the estuary from all the main rooms so you can watch the water from morning to night. In the little village of Polruan, you'll be just opposite the popular town of Fowey, known for its trendy shops and eateries. An unusual home, you enter from ground level to an immaculate and bright open-plan living room. Thanks to the slope, although it's ground level at the front of the house, you'll feel you've stepped into a top floor apartment when you see the views from the rear. With vaulted ceilings and skylights, the all-white space is modern and comfortable, with a smart kitchen, big dining table and cosy seating area. Patio doors open to a private deck – the perfect spot to sit back with a glass of wine and just take it all in. Downstairs you'll find all the bedrooms and bathrooms – three with river views – and outside you have access across the lawn to a small mooring on the waterfront. With a shop and a pub just a few steps away from the home, you could easily spend your days here, but it's just a quick car ferry ride from the quay across to Fowey, or follow the coastal path for a hike towards Lantic Bay beach.

Perched just above the quaint fishing village of Mevagissey and the sparkling English Channel, this Edwardian home treats guests to gorgeous views of the landscape through the large bay windows — not to mention from the tables on the terraces.

Don't be fooled into thinking that the address is nothing more than a vantage point, however. Despite the property's history, the design is contemporary in flavour, with pieces from local Cornish artists adorning some walls and boldly patterned wallpaper covering others. Those with musical talents will melt at the sight of the walnut Art Deco piano in the hallway, while the sleek kitchen is a thing of beauty as well, particularly with the spaceship-esque extractor fan and chic breakfast bar seating. 

If the weather's playing ball during your stay, you're more than welcome to cook up something on the barbecue, perhaps some seafood bought from the centre of Mevagissey just over five minutes' walk away. There are plenty of restaurants nearby too, as well as a museum and the South West Coast Path running past.

Fowey, with its art galleries, boutiques and fantastic restaurants, is nearby too. The Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary to Fowey in under fifteen minutes.

Pick up some fresh produce, barbecue a Cornish feast, and enjoy it on your terrace while you look out to sea. The glorious seascape can be admired from the living room and every bedroom too, which we adore. The spacious eat-in kitchen will easily accommodate all the gang – this place is perfect for a family or a group of friends.


Readymoney Cove Vistas

Tucked away in the pretty port town of Fowey, this cottage is all about elegance, simplicity and quality. Expect crisp white sheets in the bedrooms, a clutter-free living space with a wood-burning stove and an up-to-date Shaker-style kitchen. We particularly loved the strategically placed skylights, allowing natural light to flood through the home. 

Spend mornings curled up on the sofa with a good book and a cup of Earl Grey before heading onto the terrace for breakfast in the sunshine. If you’d like to stretch your legs, take a stroll into the heart of your locale and check out the fantastic selection of cafes, ice cream shops, restaurants and pubs. Set out on the Hall Walk trail or take it easy and relax on Readymoney Cove Beach, less than a fifteen-minute saunter from your doorstep. 

When it’s time to call it a day, return to your abode for a glass of your favourite tipple and a well-deserved pamper session in the slipper bath tub.

Two can be arranged into twins if needed, and some boast their own waterfront panoramas. As for location, you'll have easy access to two beaches, coastal paths, and the ferry to Fowey. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes – Polruan's steep hills and narrow streets make driving challenging, so travelling on foot is the best way to explore.

Around a seven-minute walk from the heart of Fowey's buzzing town, you'll find everything from local fish and chips to a number of high-end eateries, great pubs and excellent shopping. Boat trips and kayaks can be booked nearby, letting you explore the River Fowey from a different angle, and don't miss the tiny car ferry across to the other side of the river.

The villa is located right by the river, meaning you will be able to enjoy all the nearby riverfront cafes and restaurants, or perhaps fill your days with some water-sport adventures!

Enjoy some of the best views in Fowey when you stay at this grand Victorian house. With its elevated position on the famous Esplanade, the fabulous panoramic vistas took our breath away. You can see the harbour, Polruan, Pont Pill, the ruins of St Catherine's Castle and right out to sea. You can also enjoy the seascape from the large bay window in the stylish living room. Or take in the reflections on the water from the window seat in the main bedroom. We love the beachy vibe in this home, with its various shades of blue, seaside paintings and beach hut cushions.

If you fancy a swim in the sea, head to Readymoney Cove, a five-minute stroll or two-minute drive away. Or take advantage of chic Fowey's array of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. There's a pub and shops around 400 metres from this home, too.


Daphne's Paradise

Take a seat on the front terrace of this charming cottage and take in the glimpses of the estuary this chic town is famous for. There’s a patio off the garden room too, ideal for reading your holiday book and this place is perfect as an all-year-round getaway as there’s an open fire for those colder months. Just a couple of things to note with this home – firstly, the stairs to the second floor are a bit on the narrow side. Secondly, there’s no parking and the road outside is steep, however, one reserved parking space is provided, a ten-minute walk away. You’ll definitely need to bring your walking shoes.

Set over four levels, it's a bit of climb up to the fourth-floor lounge but trust us – it's worth every step. From up here, you've got a bird's eye view of the estuary, pretty Cornish coastline and the sparkling ocean, and the best spot to take it all in is the sunny roof terrace. Pour yourself a glass of wine (or a glass of juice for the little ones) and relish in the unforgettable sunsets, watching as the tide ebbs and flows. Then, when you've had your fill of the scenery (if that's even possible), make your way downstairs to the country-style kitchen for a family dinner before snuggling up in the sumptuous beds.

With its quaint boutiques and local eateries hiding all sorts of hidden treasures, there's plenty in Fowey to explore.
