Enjoy a wholesome holiday to this English country cottage, based in the ruggedly beautiful county of Dorset. This idyllic dwelling is ideal for a family of six or a group of friends, providing lots of room for everyone to stretch out, while still feeling cosy and quaint. The home has everything you’d expect of a traditional cottage – exposed beams on the ceiling, chintzy William Morris prints on the cushions, and a coal-effect fireplace to get all cuddled up next to. The cottage is based on 20 acres of stunning countryside, which include a lake, a woodland walking trail and a farm with ducks and sheep. The site also has games rooms for you to play some pool or ping pong, plus a playground for the little ones, providing a wonderful location to make some happy memories.

Start your day with a walk around the beautiful lake and spot the birds circling above. Return to your abode to rustle up a delicious English lunch of cheese and pickle sandwiches and pork pies, and tuck in all together on the picnic table on your balcony, while you admire the lovely views that surround you. Take a drive to the coast to visit some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, such as Durdle Door and Chesil Beach, or visit nearby Weymouth to check out seafood restaurants and friendly pubs. When you’re ready to rest, return to your cottage to hunker down by the fire with a glass of wine.

If you want to venture out further, you’re close to the Jurassic coast, which boasts breathtaking beaches such as Durdle Door and Golden Cap. You’re also a short drive away from Weymouth, a seaside destination that’s consistently recognised as one of the best in Europe.

As the evenings roll in, gather around your cosy electric coal-effect fireplace and watch a movie with a glass of wine, before falling into your big, comfy bed.

Step inside this charming cottage nestled in the Chilcombe, on the outskirts of Dorset’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With a picturesque lake and the Jurassic Coast, a short distance at your fingertips, this home nestled in a farm of holiday cottages feels like an idyllic rural getaway.

Here, you’ll find a characterful flint exterior with a traditional beamed interior alongside a host of comforting furnishings. The home has a dynamic open-plan living space that’s perfect for socialising and relaxing together. After preparing a delicious dinner with the produce you picked up from the local farm shop, settle in at the wooden dining table, where you can savour your culinary achievements. If the weather is on your side, pop a bottle of sparkling and sip it from your balcony overlooking the landscape, or cosy up in the living room to enjoy a film – perfect for colder nights. 

Stepping outside, you'll find a gorgeous garden and lake as well as a converted games barn – play a few rounds of pool with your loved ones or set about a family tournament of ping pong with the other guests on the farm. When you’re not making the most of the garden, there’s plenty to see nearby – the scenic town of Bridport is nearby and has a host of boutique shops, tea rooms and excellent pubs. Spend a day teeing off one of the local golf courses or enjoy a day on the sands of one of the local beaches, the coast is a ten-minute drive.

Spend your days voyaging through the twenty acres of bucolic country grounds – there’s rowing boats and fishing on the lakes, woodland and meadow walks on your doorstep, and a playground (and a games room and skittle alley, if the weather misbehaves). And, of course, there’s the mighty Jurassic Coast. Pack up your bucket and spades for seaside days down at Hive Beach – its sandy, golden shores, and cafe for lashings of ice cream is an afternoon well spent.

When tummies start to rumble, head back home to your cosy cottage to rustle up a bite to eat in the well-equipped country-style kitchen. You can always swing by the on-site farm shop to pick up some fresh local produce. Or get together for long summer evening barbecues on your west-facing private terrace – the views of the surrounding meadows are outstanding.

Then jump in the car bound for your nearest shores, Hive Beach, with its much-loved café dishing up some of the freshest seafood imaginable for lunch (a short drive away). And even closer, the village pub for hearty grub and a warm welcome, is a mere stumble away.

Set within 20 acres of unspoilt Dorset countryside, this converted farm building is the perfect rural retreat. Inside, it’s cosy and charming – we loved the soft natural colour scheme and sumptuous furnishings that guarantee relaxation. Begin your mornings at the dining table with a cooked breakfast before finishing the last of a pot of tea on your private balcony. When the sun is shining, wander around the grounds – follow the Woodland Nature Trail through open fields or enjoy a moment of stillness by the lake. Should rain threaten, head to the games room for a round of table tennis. 

You’ll find your home a ten-minute drive from the surf-lashed Hive Beach. Look for fossils as you pick your way across the sand then enjoy a brisk paddle in the water. In the late afternoon, appease grumbling tummies with some proper pub grub at The Three Horseshoes in Burton Bradstock – it’s only 3.5 miles away.

One of ten cosy and comfortable self-catered cottages that offer unparalleled access to the often-overlooked jewel of Dorset's Jurassic coast, this one-bedroom cottage is set within 20 acres of unspoiled countryside, evoking a feeling of 19th-century rural life that featured so prominently in Thomas Hardy's famous novels.

Step inside this former farm building, and you'll be greeted by an elegantly simple interior, with a cosy seating area set around a coal-effect electric fireplace, a dining area behind, and the kitchen disappearing around the corner. Climb a single step up to the bedroom and gaze across Bride Valley to the coast.

Follow your nose towards the sea, and you'll encounter plenty of picturesque beaches within a short drive, including Hive Beach and its popular cafe, where you can sip a post-beach-stroll coffee or tuck into a mouthwatering seasonal menu looking out over Lyme Bay and Chesil Beach. Continue east, and you'll find yourself in the pretty seaside resort of Lyme Regis, while the Blue Flag beaches of Weymouth and the iconic Durdle Door are in the opposite direction.

Closer to home, there are woodland walks and free fishing on the boating lake, while horse riding and local gold courses are within easy reach. If the weather isn't up to much, then there's a well-equipped games room that will keep you entertained on even the rainiest of afternoons. Finally, an extensive library of books and DVDs means you can relax in the comfort of your own cottage.
