One of a beautifully renovated cluster of former outhouses in the scenic Cotswolds countryside, this home has been styled by leading local interior designer Pippa Paton to make a seriously chic country escape. Highlights include the free-standing bath in the master bedroom, wood burner in the sophisticated living room and the private terrace. Not to mention its sustainability credentials (no oil or gas, ground-sourced heating, waste recycling and refillable bath products), concierge service for local bookings and welcoming two-dog policy. Located between Burford and Cirencester, it’s a great base to explore all the Cotswolds has to offer, by car or on foot. The nearest village of Bibury, a ten-minute walk, is home to a Saxon Church, the famous 14th-century street Arlington Row and – of most interest to us, if we’re honest  – the Catherine Wheel pub and its delicious roasts. We're sure you'll agree, this is a seriously good shed.

The town of Northleach is an ancient area of The Cotswolds, having existed since around 780 AD. As it’s right in the middle of a recognised ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, you won’t be short of glorious hikes while staying in this part of the country. From this huge Grade II listed house, built in 1633, you can stroll twelve minutes to the local pub, or eight minutes in the other direction to the annual Steam and Vintage Show. And this traditional, English, country lifestyle continues in the home itself. Step through the 17th-century front door and onto the polished, Cotswold limestone flooring. Get someone to play a jaunty tune on the upright piano as a soundtrack to exploring the home. The decor marries rustic and modern in an incredibly elegant way. Fresh, white walls and glass-topped tables sit alongside colourful artwork and trinkets. In contrast, we love every original element of this historic abode, with chunky timber beams, inglenooks, a wood-burning stove, and its half-acre, walled sculpture garden. Speaking of which, you can spend balmy afternoons picnicking on the bench, barbecuing on the patio, then sitting by the tranquil water features, or beneath the walnut trees.

Set in the sleepy village of Poulton, yet just a few minutes drive from historic Cirencester, picture-perfect Bibury, and Cotswold Water Park – this grade II listed cottage offers the best of both worlds. Dating back to the 17th century, exposed beams, original stone flooring, and a wood burner bring all the cottage charm, and the sociable kitchen diner overlooking the garden is a nice touch. Rather keep things easy? The village pub is just an amble away for upper-crust grub. Or fire up the barbecue in the enclosed, private garden – set back from the street, it's blissfully quiet.

Combining a traditional stone exterior with a renovated interior, we found this former barn to be the perfect base for relaxing after an excursion into the Cotswolds. With a twin room that can be turned into a double, the home is ideal for both families or two couples. We love how cosy the living area is, with underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove being an antidote to any bracing weather outside. When it's sunny, the enclosed garden is great for games and letting the kids tire themselves out. Further afield, you'll find plenty of Cotswold villages accessible by foot.

When we think of the Cotswolds, we imagine honey-coloured, picture-perfect cottages in charming villages, and this home fits the bill. We love the exposed wooden beams and the wood-burning stove in the living room. This semi-detached cottage has two bedrooms – the second is compact with a small double bed, so it's ideal perhaps for the kids. There’s also a front terrace to relax in after a long walk with the dogs or a visit to the local pub, one-minute away. There’s no shop in the village, but there's a grocery store in Fairford, a five-minute drive. Other attractions in the area include historic Cirencester, Burton-on-the-Water, Burford and the Cotswold Water Park.

With honeyed stone walls and a Grade II listed status, this bronze South West Award-winning traditional stone cottage is quintessentially Cotswolds. The exposed beams and inglenook fireplaces showcase the building’s considerable heritage (it dates back to 1670), but you’ll find plenty of modern comforts here, as well as cosy styling that favours neutral tones and natural textures. We love that it’s a home for all seasons — stride out on blustery walks in the winter months, before coming back to underfloor heating, a wood burner and thick goose down duvets. In the summer, the British countryside is arguably at its best and here you get access to a large birdsong-filled garden with plenty of shady spots for a gin and tonic. Stargazers are in luck here as there are no streetlights in the local village of Southrop and the Milky Way shines extra bright. And of course, what would a country getaway be without a nearby pub? The Swan can be reached in about three minutes' walk, although the Victoria Inn takes half an hour in case you fancy earning your pint.

Set within a 1,600-acre farm, this renovated stable is a slice of peace and a pop of colour in the Cotswold countryside. When you arrive you'll be greeted by a picture-perfect dream cottage, filled with the original oak beams, chic country flair, and a pretty master bedroom with a view and French doors into the garden. Your nearest neighbours are another stable, so the home is perfect for switching off all communication and settling in for a stay of walking, reading, and eating. The open-plan kitchen and lounge space is ideal for cooking together, as well as a comfy sofa in front of a log-burner, perfect for cuddling up after a day exploring. On sunny days, we love opening the French doors and letting in the fresh air, before wine and nibbles on the south-facing patio. If it gets cold, you can light the fire pit - which is also great for roasting marshmallows. The huge farm is open for exploring, with walks over fields, as well as to the farm's shop, where we love to stock up on food produced on the home's doorstep. The spot is in an excellent location for exploring some of the area’s most picturesque villages, while Cirencester and its smarter restaurants are only a 20-minute drive away.

Green Is The Colour

This Grade-II listed barn conversion offers everything you could want from a magical trip to the countryside and much, much more. The building has been owned by the same family since it was built in the 17th century, and you'll find a wealth of history here. There are plenty of traditional details, from the flagstone floors to the rustic wooden beams, but you'll also appreciate the modern touches, like the double-height glass windows that flood the dining room with light. You'll love serving up a traditional roast dinner at the table, which converts into a table tennis table for a post-meal game. Or, if it's a balmy evening, perhaps you'd like to fire up the barbecue and head out to the garden to dine alfresco (make sure you bring your own charcoal). A little path leads you from your private garden to the village playing field, and you might even see the local cricket team playing if you visit at the right time. Poulton also has a quaint pub which is just a few minutes away from your front door, and a pretty church to admire. The town of Fairford is three miles away, where you'll find a selection of shops, and the larger market town of Cirencester is a six-mile drive away. Spend your days touring the charming Cotswold villages, stopping off for afternoon tea as you go, before returning home to a roaring log fire at home. Don't forget to listen out for owls at night – there are a pair of little owls nesting nearby, and you might be lucky enough to hear them.

It's bright and rustic, the kind of homely interior you'd expect from a historic home, but it doesn't feel outdated. In fact, they lean into modernity here – you'll find fast wi-fi, a smart tv, and an electric vehicle charging here. The vibrant greenery covering the home echoes the surrounding landscape, which you can explore more closely on walking and hiking trails. Two pubs are within walking distance, and the River Coln and knights gate aren't much further.

Constructed out of the traditional creamy-yellow Cotswold stone, this home is actually a recent addition to the small town of Northleach. Guests will be happy to hear that the amount of effort that has been applied to ensuring the exterior blends in with the locale has also been made with fitting out the interior. All throughout, a thoroughly modern colour palette of muted greys and whites dominate, with flourishes of personality coming from the chandelier-esque light fixture in the dining room and abstract artwork hanging on the wall. Outside, there's a large garden with a charcoal barbecue and seating on the patio where you can make the most of summer afternoons. Given the prime location within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are plenty of hiking routes and rural attractions nearby, including Lodge Park and Sherborne Park Estate only seven minutes' drive away. Even closer, there's a pub, cafe and even a wine cellar just a ten-minute stroll away.
