This countryside haven is nestled in the Cotswold town of Minchinhampton. Made up of two side-by-side cottages, there's lots of room here for families and large groups. One well-behaved dog is allowed in one of the cottages for an additional fee, and your host can provide a free highchair and travel cot for little ones. All the bedrooms have their own en-suites, and while the ceiling is a bit low in one of them, there's plenty to make up for it. Outdoors, you'll find space for alfresco dining, along with a tennis court and a small stone gazebo on the expansive grounds, ideal for relaxing with a book.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

Outside, there are walking trails straight from the door and the nearest pub is just a five-minute stroll away. It’s also less than a ten-minute drive to the towns of Tetbury and Nailsworth.

Spread over three floors, this Grade II listed stone cottage nestled in the hillside is the perfect base to explore the Cotswolds. The three bedrooms,  spread over the first and second floors, all offer views of the local area, inviting you to jump out of bed and head out along one of the nearby footpaths that take you through idyllic Cotswold viewing spots. Back at home, the living room area, although too small for everyone to use at the same time, offers a wood burner in a fireplace that creates a cosy atmosphere.

On the edge of a 420-acre park, it's an easy way to immerse yourself in nature without the need to camp out. Access to any number of the centre's huge range of classes, treatments and activities gives this stay an extra wow factor. But you don't have to take advantage of these add-ons if you don't wish to, with a private studio with its own outdoor space and hot tub. All open plan, the smart kitchen is fully equipped for you to cook at home and the addition of a sofa bed means it can sleep up to three. Keen walkers can explore the footpaths along the local waterways, while the pretty town of Nailsworth, known for its pretty shops and eateries, is just a five-minute drive.

Bedrooms are classic country style and we particularly love the freestanding bathtub in the main bathroom and the pretty bedroom on the top floor. The house shares a rear courtyard with some neighbouring properties but a large, private garden lies across the lane to the front.

The home is located just off of the Cotswold Way, and it's an ideal home base for keen walkers and hikers. If you'd rather do some sightseeing, the sixteenth-century Rococo Garden is just a short walk away and is sure to delight the whole family.

The honey-coloured stone buildings, wisteria-adorned doorways and misty green hills of pretty Painswick couldn't get more Hollywood movie set if it tried. In fact, this town is so disarmingly attractive that it's known as the Queen of the Cotswolds. Well, adjust your crown because we've got a very princely stay right here for you. This 16th-century cottage is in the heart of the town, opposite the legendary 99 Yew Trees Church with its magnificent yew trees – can you take a wild guess how many?

Once inside you'll feel like a modern-day Henry VII thanks to exposed stonework, regal purple sofas, aged wooden beams and hefty wooden beds. In the second living room you'll find an honesty bar where your host has thoughtfully provided a selection of spirits – all donations made by you for the drinks you make are given to Emmaus, a local homelessness charity.

Outside you'll find the very private, very sunny courtyard garden is a delight, with lush, mature trees and immaculately manicured shrubs creating that Hampton Court Palace garden feel - albeit on a much smaller scale. It's a right royal escape.

Pull on your comfiest shoes and get to know your surroundings. You’re a seven-minute walk from the indie shops that cluster around Market Place and five minutes from the Barton Lane entrance of Cirencester Park – an excellent place to stop for a picnic.
