If you’re in search of an easygoing Cotswolds getaway, this home makes a great option. You’ll find it’s just a short drive or bus ride into the heart of Gloucester city centre, while Cheltenham is also within easy reach. There is a large private garden and the open-plan living room and kitchen lends itself perfectly to social gatherings. It’s worth noting this home isn’t suitable for infants or children, but we think it makes a great spot for a refreshing adults-only escape.

This barn conversion is situated on a small working dairy farm in Painswick Valley, less than a twenty-minute drive from Gloucester. Four fishing lakes are within the wider grounds, so keen anglers should bring their rods. If you’d prefer to stay put, there is a courtyard with outside seating for relaxing with a cup of tea. Inside, the wood-burning stove is a welcome addition in the cooler months and flexible sleeping in the fourth bedroom makes this place ideal for any family or group of friends staying together.

There's also a private garden where you can grill up a feast to share at the alfresco dining area. Exploring the surrounding countryside is easy from here, whether you're planning to travel on foot, by car, on a bike or even by horseback – that's right, for an additional fee, you can rent a neighbouring stable for your steed. Cheltenham Racecourse is just six miles away, while the charming towns of Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury are both less than a twenty-mile drive from your front door.

If it’s a calming country escape that you’re after, this glorious Gloucestershire bolthole is your golden ticket. Just six miles south of pretty Cheltenham and set right in the heart of the Cotswold Way, when it comes to wonderful walking routes and picture–perfect scenery, you’d struggle to find anywhere more ideal.

Outside, there’s three quarters of an acre of land across three gardens, offering plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine during the warmer months. Oh, and did we mention that there’s a private pool and hot tub, too? When temperatures soar, pop on your favourite swimwear and dive into its cooling depths for an instant refresh from the scorching sunshine.

For those visiting during autumn and winter, the pool might be off–limits, but there’s still plenty to be enjoyed. With beautiful beamed ceilings, oak floors and sumptuous soft furnishings peppered from room to room, wherever you choose to unwind, you’re sure to feel snug as a bug. For us, it’s the large open fireplace that really sets the scene. We can see it now – all cosied up in our best pyjamas with a hot mug of cocoa and a good book…perfection!

We’re sure you’ll be in no rush to dash out, but with lots to see and do right on your doorstep, a little venture into the open air is sure to do you good. Fancy a bite to eat? Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

From seasonal British fodder in an old Art Deco cinema to international fare by the leafy Montpellier Gardens, you’re spoilt for choice for places to eat. Begin your mornings with a cup of tea in the courtyard before strolling through Pittville Park, a thirty-minute walk away, or time your stay right and experience one of the town’s famous events – you’re less than fifteen minutes from Imperial Gardens the annual Music Festival is held.

Deep in the heart of the Cotswolds, we found this idyllic home to be an ideal setting for a romantic escape. Both Glouster and Cheltenham are a short drive away, but beautiful nature, picturesque villages, and country pubs accessible via cross-country walks are the main draw here. As it's an annex, you won't be completely secluded outside, but the home is yours alone and has a private entrance. While there are plenty of welcome authentic touches – especially the wooden lintels and exposed brickwork – the sloping ceiling in the bedroom might inconvenience taller guests.

Speaking of sightseeing, you’ve got a plethora of restaurants, shops and wine bars on your front step, while Montpellier Gardens is an eight-minute stroll away. The honey-coloured stone buildings, wisteria-adorned doorways and misty green hills of pretty Painswick couldn't get more Hollywood movie set if it tried. In fact, this town is so disarmingly attractive that it's known as the Queen of the Cotswolds. Well, adjust your crown because we've got a very princely stay right here for you. This 16th-century cottage is in the heart of the town, opposite the legendary 99 Yew Trees Church with its magnificent yew trees – can you take a wild guess how many?

Once inside you'll feel like a modern-day Henry VII thanks to exposed stonework, regal purple sofas, aged wooden beams and hefty wooden beds. In the second living room you'll find an honesty bar where your host has thoughtfully provided a selection of spirits – all donations made by you for the drinks you make are given to Emmaus, a local homelessness charity.

Outside you'll find the very private, very sunny courtyard garden is a delight, with lush, mature trees and immaculately manicured shrubs creating that Hampton Court Palace garden feel - albeit on a much smaller scale. It's a right royal escape.

If you can tear yourself away from the views over the village green, the local area is a treat. Discover farmers' markets, antique shops, and charming Cotswold towns, including Cheltenham and Stroud. After something a little different? Take an alpaca for a walk in the neighbouring village of Cowley. This is a home where memories are made.

This quaint cottage is the quintessential Cotswolds hideaway. The outside is picture perfect: roses and honeysuckle creep up the walls, built in Cotswolds limestone alongside the classic mint green paintwork. Inside, the exposed stonework and wooden beams have been preserved, while each room is decorated to an exacting standard. The kitchen is a joy to cook in, with sunlight streaming through the window. Chic mid century furniture, rattan rugs and pops of plant life will have you taking notes. 

Upstairs, the pièce de resistance is the standalone bath in the master bedroom, replete with luxury toiletries, where you can soak after a day of exploring. The cottage is nestled in a quiet street in Painswick, a traditional, incredibly pretty Cotswolds village. You are within eight minutes walk of a handful of excellent country pubs, as well as shops and local amenities. The Painswick Rococo garden is a stunning, peaceful place to wander around, complete with a maze, blooming flowers and 18th century architecture, and can be reached in seventeen minutes on foot. There is also a market every Thursday morning in the village, where you can buy food and local wares.

This Cheltenham pad has a lot to write home about, but our favourite is the attention to detail. You're in good hands with host Bren – everything you could possibly want or need is taken care of, which means all you need to worry about is relaxing. And there's no better place to do just that than in the cosy living area. Sink into one of the soft sofas, cuddle up with quirky throw pillows and put on your favourite Netflix show when you crave a chilled night at home. When the weather is nice, enjoy the bottle of wine and treats from the welcome basket in the private courtyard – it's a great spot to soak up the sunshine. We also adore the bright blue kitchen – complete with all kinds of crockery and culinary gear for stress-free self-catering – as well as the characterful bedrooms. If you need to do some work, there's a private study with a desk and bookshelves. Best of all, this home is in an excellent spot for exploring. You're just a ten-minute walk from Cheltenham centre, where you'll find boutique shops, local restaurants and plenty of cultural attractions. Or, hop in the car and visit the charming towns in the Cotswolds – many are a twenty-minute drive away.

There's so much character in this old-world home. It's set on a working farm in the heart of the Slad Valley, so expect livestock as neighbours and gorgeous Cotswold views. The house is filled with traditional elements – from the cosy fireplaces and brimming bookshelves (including one that conceals a wine fridge) to the soaker baths overlooking the hills. The most unique feature is the covered cider press in the garden, which doubles as a terrace where you can bask in the scenery and share a local brew. Three dogs are welcome to join you, too – and with the Cotswold Way and other trails on your doorstep, there are plenty of picturesque walks to choose from.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

This charming barn conversion is quintessentially Cotswolds, with a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and flagstone floors. A self-contained annexe, attached to the host's home, you'll find this cosy spot in a pretty village just ten-minutes' drive from Cheltenham. Inside, the old blends with the new, thanks to underfloor heating and a modern kitchen and bathroom. The ground floor space is open and sociable, and there's a garden room (which doubles as a second bedroom) opening to a lovely terrace with far-reaching views. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it's a walker's paradise, and the home has paths that run from the rear to various trails, including the Cotswolds Way. A thirty-five minute walk will take you to a grand country hotel for lunch and it's just a little further to the pub.

Built in the 1920s, this cottage is a handsome retreat in the Painswick Valley, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There are plenty of period features to admire from the solid elm staircase and leaded windows, to the original doors and metalwork that date back to the Arts and Crafts movement. You'll love gathering your guests at the dining table to enjoy a traditional English roast, cooked with love in the kitchen, before settling down for an evening of board games in the lounge. Or, if the weather is nice, you have ninety-four acres of the owners' farmland to explore, from beech woodland to perfectly manicured lawns – don't forget your walking boots. The closest country pub is a mile's walk away, while the town of Painswick is a three-mile drive. You're in an excellent position to take a road trip and visit the charming Cotswold villages – don't forget to treat yourself to some afternoon tea on your travels.

The apartment itself has a fuss-free interior on the ground floor. But as for a prime location, we love that you'll be within walking distance of Pittville Park and the town centre. While the garden is shared with your neighbours, the decked terrace is all yours for sipping sundowners after touring the nearby sights.

With a whole town of Regency architecture to admire, Cheltenham is full of listed buildings and has an altogether regal air. While it might be well known for the races, you don’t need to don your best hat when staying in this funky, modern home, eleven minutes from the town centre. With classic features like large Georgian windows in every room, but a playful and colourful decor, there’s a certain delight in the contrasts. We also love the mirrored dressing table in the bedroom, which feels more LA than Gloucestershire, but certainly adds to the VIP vibe. Its large bathroom boasts a huge freestanding tub as well as a separate rainfall shower – much better than the famous English drizzle. And if you're lucky enough to be here during a sunny spell, you’ve got your own private patio with a cute dining set – perfect for an alfresco glass of pinot grigio. If you’re in need of some more lush greenery, pack a picnic full of local deli goods and head out to Montpellier Gardens, a seven-minute walk from home.

This three-storey Victorian house is an inviting home-from-home less than a ten-minute drive from the heart of Cheltenham. If you’d prefer to stretch your legs, the Cotswolds is a short car ride away – we recommend taking a day trip to the pretty town of Bourton-on-the-Water. Back at the abode, a kitchen with plenty of prep space leads out to a large garden, perfect for barbecues in the summer.
