This countryside haven is nestled in the Cotswold town of Minchinhampton. Made up of two side-by-side cottages, there's lots of room here for families and large groups. One well-behaved dog is allowed in one of the cottages for an additional fee, and your host can provide a free highchair and travel cot for little ones. All the bedrooms have their own en-suites, and while the ceiling is a bit low in one of them, there's plenty to make up for it. Outdoors, you'll find space for alfresco dining, along with a tennis court and a small stone gazebo on the expansive grounds, ideal for relaxing with a book.

Built back in the late 1920s, this cottage combines rustic features, modern conveniences and a smidgeon of rural eccentricity to make for a truly memorable stay. Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

Bedrooms are classic country style and we particularly love the freestanding bathtub in the main bathroom and the pretty bedroom on the top floor. The house shares a rear courtyard with some neighbouring properties but a large, private garden lies across the lane to the front.

From crates from far-away tea-estates and passionate ship-building to elaborate paintings and sculptures, we love how the objects and the sheer architecture of the house encapsulate different moments in time. Bold pops of yellow and decorative neon signs add a touch of modern style to the space. Our favourite part? The private courtyard, peppered with whimsical features that combine with the string lights to make evenings feel magical. With a wide range of amenities to top it all off, this home is a living history book of luxury and design – you'll never forget it.

Soak up the sun in the pretty wisteria-filled garden. You’re in the thick of things here, as this charming home is in the centre of Tetbury. Stroll to independent shops, cafes and restaurants, and keep an eye out for resident royals as you go. We recommend bringing a car so you can explore more of the Cotswolds – it’s all within easy reach here.

With its wood-burning fire, window seats and pretty walled garden, this 19th-century townhouse in Tetbury delivers all the Cotswold's charm. Tucked away along a quiet, no-through lane, there are beautiful walks on the doorstep. Or for a little more bustle, Tetbury's wander-worthy centre, with its iconic antique shops, restaurants and cafes, is just a stroll away. Perfect for a multi-generational family stay, alongside two double bedrooms, there's a single bedroom that's ideal for a child or single grandparent. It's worth noting a home of this heritage does have its quirks. Expect steep staircases, low beams in places and a compact kitchen. But that's all part and parcel of characterful cottage living.

Seemingly plucked straight from a fairytale, this secluded, idyllic thatched cottage, originally built in 1624, makes a romantic nesting place for couples looking for a rural escape. Cosy up on the velvet sofas by the wood-burning stove and relish in the home's comforting character. We love the stunning countryside views from the large garden – we can imagine sitting here on warm summer days with a glass of wine in hand. Another favourite of ours is the gorgeous bedroom with its characterful beams, chandelier and free-standing bath, the perfect place for a soak after a long countryside walk. There are several gastro pubs within a ten-minute drive, or if you fancy exploring further afield, Cirencester and Tetbury are under fifteen minutes in the car. Alternatively, marvel at over two thousand different species of trees at the stunning Westonbirt Arboretum, just over a twenty-minute ride.

Built in the 16th century, this Grade II listed home is believed to be the former Keeper’s cottage. You’ll find it just off the 16th-century market square in Tetbury, in a courtyard with private parking. This rustic, historic home is a cosy base ideal for two, though it won’t suit those seeking sleek, modern accommodation. We love the exposed stone and the wood-burning stove, which add to the charm. As well as having Tetbury’s antique shops and cafes on your doorstep, you’ll also be within easy reach of Westonbirt Arboretum, Gatcombe Park, and Malmesbury.

Nestled into the charming village of Painswick, this Edwardian family home welcomes up to four guests to spend a few relaxing days exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. Recently renovated to ensure guests have a comfortable stay, there is a lavish clawfoot tub, a cosy fireplace, a sleek kitchen and a well-maintained garden with plenty of outdoor seating, so you can sip your morning coffee outside while taking in your lush surroundings. Host Sean goes out of his way to provide a spectacular array of breakfast items, including cereals, bread and croissants, hot drinks, eggs, and jams. The home is located just off of the Cotswold Way, and it's an ideal home base for keen walkers and hikers. If you'd rather do some sightseeing, the sixteenth-century Rococo Garden is just a short walk away and is sure to delight the whole family.

Consider this grand mansion house, whose nine bedrooms - plus special highlights like juke box, maze, large terrace and extensive parklands - make it quite the place for a gathering of family or friends. The grade II-listed Regency building has no less than five indoor living spaces including a banquet-worthy dining room, which seats up to 20, a library packed with books, and sitting room with open fire and plenty of overstuffed chairs and sofas. The surroundings are impressive, part of the 28-acre Matara Estate, where rewilding projects and formal gardens have been in progress for the past 20 years. A private tour can be arranged – just ask the caretaker on your arrival. If you can manage your way out of all that (or even want to) you’ll find yourself in a charming part of the Cotswolds - with Stroud, Tetbury and Westonbirt’s National Arbotoreum nearby and Jane Austen’s beloved Bath just a 35-minute drive away.

This dog-friendly cottage is Cotswold charm personified. It's tucked down a tree-lined lane just outside of Tetbury, and if the chocolate-box exterior doesn't wow you, we reckon the countryside setting will. You'll be treated to views across Westonbirt Arboretum, best enjoyed in the sunny garden or from the cottage's panoramic window seat. Inside, you can curl up with a book in front of the fire, play a game around the dining table, or work remotely from the desk on the landing. There's also a handy utility room here, ideal for wiping off muddy paws and storing wellies after a long trek through the surrounding countryside.

This barn conversion is situated on a small working dairy farm in Painswick Valley, less than a twenty-minute drive from Gloucester. Four fishing lakes are within the wider grounds, so keen anglers should bring their rods. If you’d prefer to stay put, there is a courtyard with outside seating for relaxing with a cup of tea. Inside, the wood-burning stove is a welcome addition in the cooler months and flexible sleeping in the fourth bedroom makes this place ideal for any family or group of friends staying together.

Inside is full of the charm you’d expect from a home of its age – just mind your head on those sloping ceilings and beautiful old beams. Prepare to be entertained by the Tetbury Woolsack Races taking place right outside the front door.

This quaint cottage is the quintessential Cotswolds hideaway. The outside is picture perfect: roses and honeysuckle creep up the walls, built in Cotswolds limestone alongside the classic mint green paintwork. Inside, the exposed stonework and wooden beams have been preserved, while each room is decorated to an exacting standard. The kitchen is a joy to cook in, with sunlight streaming through the window. Chic mid century furniture, rattan rugs and pops of plant life will have you taking notes. 

Upstairs, the pièce de resistance is the standalone bath in the master bedroom, replete with luxury toiletries, where you can soak after a day of exploring. The cottage is nestled in a quiet street in Painswick, a traditional, incredibly pretty Cotswolds village. You are within eight minutes walk of a handful of excellent country pubs, as well as shops and local amenities. The Painswick Rococo garden is a stunning, peaceful place to wander around, complete with a maze, blooming flowers and 18th century architecture, and can be reached in seventeen minutes on foot. There is also a market every Thursday morning in the village, where you can buy food and local wares. 

Queen of The Cotswolds

Dating back to the 1880s, this former barn now provides a beautiful countryside cottage experience for families exploring The Cotswolds. Though it's since undergone renovations, it takes pride in the stone floors, exposed walls and beams, adding character and charm to the space, even if the sloped ceilings mean taller guests have to watch their heads. At least there's no ducking outside where an expansive garden gives you more than enough space. You'll also find the seasonal swimming pool, fire pit, alfresco dining table and, if requested, a hot tub out here. As for location, you're within easy driving distance of Cotswolds treasures such as Tetbury, Malmesbury and Cirencester.
