Though it's since undergone renovations, it takes pride in the stone floors, exposed walls and beams, adding character and charm to the space, even if the sloped ceilings mean taller guests have to watch their heads. At least there's no ducking outside where an expansive garden gives you more than enough space. As for location, you're within easy driving distance of Cotswolds treasures such as Tetbury, Malmesbury and Cirencester.

We think it's ideal for families – for an additional fee, furry friends are welcome and your host can provide a travel cot and high chair. The glass wall at the back of the house offers great lake views and natural light, but it does mean that some privacy is lost if you're spending time outside in the hot tub, or if you have the light on in the evening. You'll enjoy access to a range of onsite facilities though, from a spa and pool to a restaurant and shop, and you can explore the area by bike, on foot or even by canoe.

Should you have some work to attend to, there’s an office space for you to set up your laptop. 

Wake up with a coffee in the quiet living space before putting together a tasty breakfast in the farmhouse-style kitchen. If the weather is on your side, spill out into the garden and finish cups of tea at the bistro set in the warm sunshine. 

Pull on your comfiest shoes and get to know your surroundings. You’re a seven-minute walk from the indie shops that cluster around Market Place and five minutes from the Barton Lane entrance of Cirencester Park – an excellent place to stop for a picnic. Take a dip in the spring-fed, open-air pool in the heights of the summer, follow bridleways that snake through the unspoilt countryside or jump in the car and spend an afternoon in pretty Bibury, a fifteen-minute drive away.

This glass-fronted lodge is on a private estate with a wide range of facilities. Surrounded by acres of nature reserve, there are trails to hike and bike and lakes for watersports. The on-site spa has multiple communal pools, and you'll have your own hot tub and private balcony. The glass front of the home offers lovely views of Swillbrook lake and the stars at night from indoors, and plenty of natural light, though it does mean the home won't feel very private – we recommend bringing an eye mask for sleeping, as the main bedroom has no blinds.

With a decked terrace and a glass-panelled living room and dining area, natural daylight floods the space and frames the views across the lakes. You can't grow bored here, either – the home provides access to the spa facilities in the nearby holiday park, along with its pools. There is also a wide selection of other recreational activities available for a fee – from bike rentals to paddle boarding.
