If you fancy escaping to a chateau but don't want to leave the country, this home is perfect. Situated behind electric gates, the west wing of this chateau-style home is in the glorious Kent Downs. When you are ready to explore, there's plenty to do. Set in the rural village of Challock, located high on the North Downs, there are plenty of walks on your doorstep – make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the local deer. It's just a five-minute walk to King's Wood, which is carpeted in fragrant bluebells in spring. Or the cathedral city of Canterbury, with its cobbled streets and timber-framed houses, is twenty-five minutes in the car. It's the same distance to Whitstable, where you'll find a long stretch of shingle beach, fresh seafood and independent shops. There are several vineyards within a ten-mile ride, too, if you want to taste some of the local wines.

A delightfully quaint bolthole set in the beautiful Kent countryside, this home's modern black facade is complemented by a rustic and quirky interior. Glass-fronted and beaming with sunlight all year round, the bright living space is warm and welcoming from the moment you arrive. The fully-equipped kitchen has soft wooden tables and open shelves, creating a homely and relaxing space to gather over a homecooked meal. It opens onto the trendy and whimsical lounge, with its yellow armchair and eclectic decorations. We loved the garden most of all – slide open the glass doors and step outside into the fresh air. Outside, you'll find an alfresco dining area – the perfect spot to tuck into the cake host Georgina leaves for you – and a cosy lounge area surrounding an open-air fire pit, which is ideal for enjoying a moment of calm while watching the sunset. You may even spot the resident kingfisher as it flies from the pond. When you're ready for sleep, drift off in the plush beds in the country-style bedrooms, then wake up feeling well-rested and ready to explore Kent. You're perfectly located for adventures – make the twenty-minute drive to the coastal Dungeness National Nature Reserve or reward yourself after a stroll with a pint in one of the delicious pubs nearby.

There's been no horsing around in converting these stables into this studio retreat – excuse the pun. You can't have a country bolthole without a log burner to snuggle up in front of, right? Luckily there's one here, and the first basket of logs is provided to get the fire going. There's no escaping from the fact that this cottage is traditionally decorated, but it adds to the charm. The absolute highlight for us, though, is the garden with its wonderful views over wildflower meadows to Orlestone Forest (famous for its nightingales). When you're ready to explore, head to the nearby village of Hamstreet, with its shops, eateries and pub, a short drive away (it's walkable too).

This luxurious, renovated Victorian red brick bard is nestled in the English countryside of Romney Marsh Ridge, on the edge of the rural hamlet of Court-at-Street and next door to family-favourite Port Lympne Safari Park. With a large garden and beautiful panoramic views of the North Downs. there is something for the whole family to enjoy during your stay. With streaming services, table football, board games and a host of books to choose from, no one will be complaining about boredom if you're stuck inside on a rainy day. Cosy up by the log burner or draw yourself a steaming bath in the clawfoot tub, and sink into the water as you feel your muscles relaxing. Stepping outside you'll be spoiled for choice in how to spend your day, whether you want to travel out further afoot or stay on the property. Throw a barbecue and dine alfresco with beautiful country views, and gather round the firepit at dusk while you roast marshmallows and exchange stories around the flames. If you're looking for something a little more active for the family, your host owns a tennis court on the property that can be used with prior permission.

Tuck into breakfast in your private courtyard before taking a stroll past the pond and golden barley fields to the paddock, where Caroline’s Soay sheep are kept. Set out on a yomp along country lanes, stopping at gastro pubs along the way. And when it’s time to get some rest, we guarantee you’ll be out like a light as soon as your head hits the pillow of your cloud-soft bed.

It’s a luxury few expect for a home nestled away in the quiet Kent countryside. In warmer months, slide the bifold doors right back to let the sunshine in and enjoy views of the pristinely manicured gardens beyond. You could easily while away the whole day – in fact, the entire week - padding between the pool, sauna, and outdoor sun loungers, with an occasional barbecue thrown in, to spice things up. And there are more welcome surprises inside this home too. The spacious light-filled lounge and dining area overlooks the swimming pool – handy for keeping an eye on poolside antics even when you’re indoors. And upstairs, there’s a secondary lounge with Juliet balcony doors revealing views of the gardens and distant rolling fields. There are two sitting rooms, perfect for a large family.
