Designed in a chic, boutique-style manner, the whole space feels brilliantly modern while retaining a sense of vintage charm that so aptly reflects Margate’s seaside fame. We love the bright living room with its large windows that provide the most spectacular sunset views across the Winter Gardens and out towards the sea, best enjoyed on the sofa with a glass of wine or through the handy telescope provided. Full of fun decorative details that subtly nod to the coast, this space is made for relaxation and easy-going socialising. Our other favourite spot for sea-sighting is in the beautiful master bedroom where an armchair invites you to curl up on it with a good book and enjoy the rolling of the waves from yet another angle. Factor in the sunny kitchen and the sparkling blue and white bathroom and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful coastal break. Outside of your home, you’re just a six-minute walk from the Turner Contemporary art gallery, an eight-minute stroll from the Main Sands beach, while the Dreamland Margate amusement park is fifteen minutes on foot from your door.

The design swaps twee coastal curios for sleek, contemporary touches. Some rooms are snug – particularly the lounge when the sofa bed is in use – but it works for short trips. A tasty meal can easily be rustled up in the kitchen, while the tiny courtyard is ideal for a dog to get some fresh air. But the biggest bonus is the rooftop terrace. Accessed through one of the bedrooms, it boasts sea views in the distance and a bar to boot – that's sundowners covered.

Ideally located in the old town, just a two-minute walk from the beach and the Turner Contemporary, this home has the very best of Margate within easy reach. When you’re not strolling along the promenade or perusing the trendy shops, we imagine you’ll be digging into fish and chips on the home’s private patio. Inside, you’ll find a sociable living space for spending quality time together and a kitchen for easy self-catering. If we had to be picky, we’d say the bathroom could do with an update, but everything works as it should.

Set in Cliftonville, a smart pocket of the seaside town just a two-minute walk from the seafront promenade, it's easy to see the draw of this neighbourhood.

Grab a coffee to go from one of Cliftonville's buzzy cafes, then mooch along to the fantastic Walpole Tidal Pool (nine minutes away) or a smidge further in the opposite direction, the silk-sanded shores of Margate Beach (eighteen minutes on foot). For a hefty dose of seaside nostalgia, the kitsch amusement park, Margate Dreamland (a twenty-five minutes walk), is just the ticket. Or, for something a little more highbrow, the Turner Contemporary Gallery will do nicely (an eighteen-minute walk). As will the Old Town's wander-worthy lanes –⁠ its vintage shops and happening restaurants is an afternoon well spent.

Back at home, you'll love how quiet this apartment feels, set out across the top two floors of a Victorian property. The bay window nook is the perfect spot for a tete-a-tete over morning coffees as you soak up the sea vistas. Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside, especially when the homes are as pretty as this. Part of a grand Victorian building positioned next to a square from the same era, the apartment benefits from period features such as the ornamental fireplace and a big bay window that lets in ample amounts of natural light into the living room. It also means that it's possible to see the coastline from the dining table. The furnishings fit into the current trend for mid-century influences, while the kitchen and bathroom are each dazzlingly white. If the sunshine makes an appearance, you can walk fifteen minutes to Margate's main beach or Walpole Tidal Pool, and go for a dip. When it's raining, why not head to the Turner Contemporary art gallery instead?

You’ll also be well placed for exploring the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The house is colourful and comfortable, equipped with everything you might need – though, at full occupancy, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room.

Mesmerising sea views are what steal the show at this fabulously located Margate apartment. Any closer to the water and you'd be swimming in it – at least, that's how it feels from the comfy seats in the big bay window. It's the perfect spot to relax with a cup of tea or a glass of wine and watch the tides change – or, if you're in town on business, you'll find it makes an excellent desk, although, with vistas like that, we'd definitely focus more on the scenery than our work.

As impressive as the panoramas are, they're not the only reason this apartment caught our eye. It's filled with light and boasts sleek, contemporary decoration inspired by the coast. Unwind on the blue sofa after a long walk along the shore, rustle up a hearty meal in the stylish kitchen and, come bedtime, retreat to the cosy bedrooms (two of which face the seaside) and fall asleep to the gentle lull of the waves.

As for location, it's as ideal as can be. You're just five minutes on foot from Walpole Tidal Pool, ten from Palm Bay Beach and twenty-two from Margate Main Sands. Northdown Road has an array of shops, pubs and restaurants – it's a ten-minute stroll away – with plenty more eateries and activities to choose from in the centre, also within easy reach.

Hop off the train, and within a ten-minute walk, you'll find yourself wrapped up in the magic of this artistic townhouse in Ramsgate. Elegant wallpaper, muted tiling, window shutters and the glittering chandeliers in most rooms (including the bathroom) give the home a grand and opulent air. The pleasingly eclectic variety of wall colours – alongside the antique furniture, contemporary art and climbing houseplants – also lend a bohemian atmosphere that perfectly matches the seaside location. And there's no shortage of ways for kids and adults to entertain themselves. You can spend happy moments in the kids' room discovering all the stuffed toys, take a relaxing soak in the clawfoot tub, nip over to the pilates studio next door, or sample some of England's finest ale in the garden. The home is ideally located for a large family or group of friends wanting to explore the 'garden of England' – with Ramsgate Harbour and the beach just a stroll away. Nearby, you can experience all the fun of the fair at Dreamland – home to the UK's oldest rollercoaster – or admire stunning works of art in the Turner Contemporary, both on Margate's seafront. The town is also home to a host of Michelin-recommended restaurants, serving up everything from authentic Italian fare to fresh fish straight out of the North Sea.

This charming cottage sits on a chalk headland within the grounds of a lighthouse above Broadstairs. You'll be glad to know this lighthouse doesn't have a fog signal, so there'll be no jumping out of your skin. You may leap for joy, though, when you see the shared one-acre lawned garden and patio (all set well away from the cliffs, so the property is child-friendly too). Inside the home, there are some lovely views from upstairs, but we'd say the kitchen is quite narrow in areas, though it's well-equipped. Or if you prefer to eat out, there's a pub within a ten-minute stroll. Nearby, Broadstairs has sandy beaches and an old town to explore too.

Gaze out over Viking Bay from this modern beachfront apartment. Tucked away beneath the scenic clifftop promenade, this top-floor pad offers unmatched access to the golden sands of Broadstairs' horseshoe-shaped beach and the independent boutiques, charming cafes and fantastic restaurants that line its narrow streets.

Wake up to stunning sunrises in the main en-suite bedroom before brewing yourself a coffee and sitting out on the private balcony as the seabirds circle overhead. If it's a little chilly, you can still enjoy the vistas from the comfort of the leather sofa or elect to stay in bed and enjoy a slow start to the day.

Plan your afternoon over breakfast at the Ercol dining table and chairs, backed by a large mirrored wall that reflects the already ample daylight into the room. Elsewhere, a chic baby blue kitchen contains all you might need to make homemade meals. However, with everything from fuss-free fish & chips to fine dining to choose from on your doorstep and in nearby Margate, you might not be spending much time in it.

While Margate is a short drive away, we'd suggest taking your time and following the Viking Trail along expansive beaches and steep chalk cliffs all the way to its sheltered harbour. From here, you're perfectly placed to visit the Turner Contemporary and wander the quaint Old Town, where you can take your pick from several outstanding eateries (though we'd recommend booking ahead) before boarding a bus or catching a taxi back to Broadstairs.

Interiors are bright and funky, with a couple of nautical nods to remind you of your enviable location. Breathe in the salty air from one of two outside spaces – there’s a cosy courtyard with twinkly lights at the back and a dinky patio to the front. When the afternoon comes to an end, tuck into a fish supper in the living space or take it to the seafront for a sweeping coastal sunset. Wet your whistle at any one of a number of pubs and bars along the High Street, a five-minute walk away, or tuck into creamy gelato at Morelli’s famous parlour – it’s only 250 metres from your doorstep.

The open-plan layout is a dream for laid-back evenings – parents can rustle up dinner in the kitchen while kids get cosy on the overstuffed sofas and never miss a beat in the conversation. The seaside theme naturally sweeps through the home with cobalt blue furniture and natural woods, leading to the star of the show, the mural. The kids (and the grown-ups!) will love the colourful mural for its lovely detail and the whimsical feel that it adds to the home. Breakfasts eaten around the dining table surrounded by painted sea creatures will certainly motivate you to get out there and explore, so it's lucky you don't have to go far. 

The charming seaside town of Westgate-on-Sea is just a thirteen-minute walk away where you'll find quaint cafes, an old-fashioned cinema, and a lovely sandy beach. Or, you can take the thirty-minute coastal walk to Margate. There, you'll find an even bigger beach, with even more independent shops and cafes to explore. However you spend the day, you'll love getting home to your cottage. Enjoy the last of the afternoon sun in the courtyard, listening to the sounds of the seagulls nearby with a nice drink in hand. Our favourite viewpoint is the conservatory – we can't think of a better spot to enjoy a cup of tea and watch the tide roll in. Outside, the fuss-free garden offers space for kids and pups to let loose. Ready to explore? Birchington has two tidal shores that are ideal for walking and rockpooling. For a proper day at the beach, we suggest heading over to Margate, just 4 miles away.

Located in the picturesque village of Ash, this farmhouse is a gorgeous escape, best suited for a large family or a group of friends who love the Kent countryside. The architecture hasn't changed much since the house was built well over a century ago, and you can still see a variety of period features, even though the home has recently undergone a careful refurbishment. This is most obvious in the homey kitchen with its hanging pots and pans, supported by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, as well as the antique fireplace in the living room. Thanks to the size of the garden, everyone can find their little spot and relax alone, or get together for an alfresco meal freshly cooked on the barbecue. But our favourite space has to be the library, where you can browse the host's wide collection of titles and pretend you're the Lord or Lady of the manor. There's a local pub just a few minutes away if you're in need of refreshment, along with a village shop. Plus, with the medieval town of Sandwich just a ten-minute drive away, along with a nearby golf course and wildlife park, there's plenty to entertain the whole family.

Steeped in fairytale charm, this stone brick cottage is a gorgeous choice for a family or friends getaway. Tucked away in a vast field, this Victorian home is encircled by whimsical trees with plenty of land to enjoy. 

You'll love the peace and seclusion of this home as much as its quaint interior. It's wonderfully cheerful, with a mix of traditional and modern touches. The driveway is shared with the house's owner next door, so you're ensured easy correspondence throughout your stay.

Two of the things that the Kent town of Deal is most famous for is its castle and stretch of pebbly coastline. As it happens, both of these things are visible through the big bay window in the lounge of this apartment. Back inside, the decor is simple, but every aspect has been executed so well. Wooden floorboards and white walls provide a classy backdrop against which colourful furnishings and photographic artwork pop off. The kitchen is pretty large considering the address is only for two, so you'll be able to flex your culinary muscles with no trouble. The presence of a bathtub is also sure to be appreciated after a long day frolicking about on the beach, which sits at the end of the street. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance, too.

Quite fittingly for a home around five minutes' walk from Herne Bay's coastline, this home is slightly reminiscent of a beach shack. Admittedly, it's a lot bigger than the much-coveted huts you'll see in the local area, but the weathered timber around the fireplace, the bright white walls and the large double doors that open up to let the sea air blow through the space help create the laidback feel. Outside, there's a small yard complete with a picnic table for when you fancy an alfresco supper, but there are several seafront restaurants on Central Parade a couple of minutes away on foot, as well as plenty more on the High Street in the other direction. A lovely walking route through The Downs starts five minutes' walk from the front door, too.

Get your fill of fresh coastal air at this welcoming cottage in Deal. An idyllic seaside getaway, it has everything you need for a relaxing stay. From its wood floors to its cosy fireplaces and contemporary decor, it’s all set to invite you into its warm and comfortable embrace. The farmhouse-style kitchen is where you’ll want to begin your days over hearty breakfasts and hot cups of coffee before catching some rays in the courtyard garden. Then grab your swimming costume and towel for an afternoon at Deal’s pebble beach (a four-minute walk away) or soak up some history at Deal Castle (also four minutes away on foot). Mosey around Deal High Street’s eclectic blend of shops (eight minutes) and take a day to visit Margate, a thirty-minute drive away. After whiling away your hours soaking up the sea air, come back home for sunset drinks in the garden. This period property was built in the style of a South African homestead, so if you’re a fan of unusual features and are looking for a sizeable home, this one’s for you. The ground-floor annex is perfect for grandparents, and the children’s playroom and enclosed garden ensure that kids will love it too. With just four bathrooms for a large group, you might find yourself waiting a while in the mornings – and the bathrooms are showing some signs of wear and tear. This is a lived-in – and loved – family home, so it won’t suit everyone’s tastes. The pebble beach of Sandwich Bay is just 0.2 miles away though, and golfers will enjoy being so close to two golf courses.

Close to the medieval town of Sandwich, this modern barn has a private terrace and a large shared garden. With lovely views over the surrounding fields of rural Kent, hikers and cyclists can rejoice. We recommend hiring a car here – there's an array of friendly pubs and eateries an easy drive away, plus Kingsdown beach, and golf courses. Inside this home you'll find dedicated desks, a PC, and a stocked bookshelf up on the mezzanine level, perfect as a workspace or play area for children. The underfloor heating throughout is a small but luxurious touch, and the super king bed can become twin beds on request, great for families.

The white walls and wooden floorboards work very well with the ample amounts of natural light that come in through the windows on either side of the long, open living space. There's a charming collection of nautical-themed pieces of artwork and trinkets dotted about the space, as well as a pair of bathtubs that are sure to tempt you upon coming back through the front door after a long day exploring this quaint seaside town. The pier is eight minutes' walk along the pebbly beach and you'll spot some of the wide array of restaurants and pubs that Deal has to offer along the way.

Minutes from the Ramsgate seafront, this Victorian home is perfectly located for a coastal getaway. Almost everything is within walking distance, be it the Royal Harbour and the beach or seaside restaurants and shops. Sure, the interiors aren't the most modern, but you'll have space to spread out across the cosy sitting room, eat-in kitchen, and four comfortable bedrooms – though it's worth noting that there's only one bathroom. The cherry on top is the small patio, perfect for morning coffees and alfresco sundowners.

Nestled into the vast Kent countryside, this whitewashed cottage is every bit as wholesome as you'd want from a country getaway. With beautiful gardens, an original fireplace, and farmhouse-style furniture, it's the perfect place to recharge. This home isn't without its mod-cons though, with underfloor heating, a coffee machine, and fast wifi, there's everything you need for a comfortable stay.

We love how sociable this home is – the ideal setting for a family getaway or a group of friends to reunite. Cosy armchairs provide the perfect spot for late-night catch-ups, a lovely dining table is fitting for dinners, drinks, and board games, while the kitchen is big enough for everyone to pitch in when preparing meals. And while we love the cottage's warm and comforting interior, the gardens really make this home sing. There's more than enough space for the little ones to run around while the grown-ups refresh the jug of Pimms and work on the barbecue. There's even space for a friendly game of rounders. 

If you're up early enough, you can catch an incredible sunrise from the front garden. But if not (you're on holiday after all), pull up a seat in the back garden for the most wonderful sunset, with whirling shades of pink and orange sinking into the Kent countryside. 

This is a really beautiful area. The quaint town of Sandwich is just a ten-minute drive away and is widely considered one of the best preserved medieval towns in England. Head to Sandwich Bay for windy walks on the beach, before tucking into some traditional fish and chips. 

Away in the Country

Tucked away on a quiet pedestrianised lane just off the winding streets of Deal, the flower-adorned way to the front door will feel like a hug for your soul. Stepping inside the home, you’ll notice a homely blend of traditional exposed beams and a brick fireplace that now houses a little wood-burning stove, alongside more modern furnishings.

With the beach minutes away, you might spend days sunbathing or walking the pier and promenade with soft serve in hand, but we recommend time at home to simply unwind with a good book as you curl up on the sofa. Take your morning coffee out into the small courtyard and enjoy the peace and quiet as you take your very first sip. Dine out there when the weather plays ball, and when it doesn’t, you can always kindle a fire and play board games or watch a movie together. 

There’s a number of boutique shops and cafes around to explore when you’re out and about, and with the local pub only a stone’s throw away, you can swing by on most days for a lunch and a pint.
