Situated near your host’s working farm, this charming home near the village of Mattishall has a wonderful setting. The market town of Dereham is five miles away, where you’ll find a cinema, restaurants, and a sports centre for when you want to keep up your fitness regime while away. Back at this cottage, there’s a fully enclosed private patio perfect for alfresco meals, but if you want more space, there is access available to the owner's lawned garden (by arrangement). Inside is all on one level so it’s ideal for guests with limited mobility, but equally, it would also suit a couple with a baby, as your friendly hosts provide a free cot and high chair.

This lovely place is ideal for a countryside escape in quiet seclusion. The late 19th-century home is filled with warm wooden beams, fireplaces, and wide windows, enabling you to gaze out to the sweeping landscape. 

We adore the private woodland here, where you can enjoy all kinds of flora and fauna, from birdsong to blooming wildflowers, streams, and lakes – it’s an incredibly serene idyll. You’ll share the grounds with sheep, cows, and horses, who graze peacefully on the nearby meadows. Make the most of everything in your back garden, including an orchard, and a barbecue on the paved terrace. There’s a shared tennis court too if you want to play a game.

You'll be based on the outskirts of Gressenhall, a rural Norfolk village that has quaint village shops and a local pub. For a day excursion, the nearby town of Dereham (a ten-minute drive) has a golf course, swimming pool, and bowling. Norfolk, a cathedral city known for its sublime views, is a 30-minute drive away and the stunning beaches of the North Norfolk coast are just as close.

There's a real sense of tradition at this Grade II-listed Georgian millhouse, which is nestled in the sleepy hamlet of Worthing on the edge of the Blackwater River. Every nook and cranny harks back to the home's heritage, from the stone walls to the gorgeous wooden beams. We're blown away by how much room there is – while parents sip tea in the sunroom or snooze in the cosy bedrooms, kids can hide themselves away in the loft, listening to records and gaming on the Playstation.

But when you're not playing pool in the game room, warming your toes in front of the wood-burning fire or rustling up a hearty supper on the Stanley cooker in the kitchen, chances are, you'll be making the most of the weather out in the garden. The 1.5 acres of land runs right along the river, where swans, herons and the occasional otter come to play. At one end, you'll find an apple orchard, the other a folly, and in between, there's more than enough space to kick a ball around, host barbecues and lounge in the sunshine. Plus, it's just a five-minute walk to the nearest pub and driving distance to many more – not to mention only a thirty-minute drive from the picturesque Norfolk coast. We think it's the perfect retreat for some family fun in the countryside.

Inside, vaulted ceilings sport original wooden beams, while enormous glass walls flood the space with sunlight. Books and board games line the shelves, cushy sofas are perfect for snuggling and a delightful wood burner keeps everything toasty warm on chilly evenings. We love the small but well-equipped kitchen – you'll have everything you need to rustle up dinner – and the sumptuous bathtub is just the ticket after an invigorating walk through the countryside. On summer days, take your relaxing onto the private courtyard garden, gathering around the fire pit and firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast when you grow peckish.

Spend sunny afternoons strolling around the farm, admiring the prehistoric ponds – they're some of the last remaining ones in the country. This home is nestled in the heart of the Brecks, where wild forests, craggy heaths and twisted pines are rife for rambling. Surrounded by walking trails and lush grounds, it’s a real escape – as soon as you spot the mansion-like house on the approach, you’ll feel your worries melt away. 

Ideal for entertaining large groups, this home has heaps of space, with a room for every occasion. You might begin your day in the breakfast room, tucking into a hearty breakfast together as you plan your day. Perhaps you’ll then sip coffee in the orangery, which looks out over the heated swimming pool. After a dip, tennis might be on the cards, or if that’s a little too energetic, perhaps a refined game of croquet on the lawn? You might explore the grounds, or curl up in the sitting room with a book and enjoy some peace and quiet. Kids will love the games room on the second floor, where they can play table football and watch movies. 

If you’ve something to celebrate, the formal dining room is a fabulous spot for dinner. You’ll dine beneath a chandelier in this grand space – you’ll definitely want to pop open the Champagne. For more informal meals, we love the alfresco dining area. Fire up the barbecue and dine late into the evening outside, alongside the pool. It’s easy to forget you’re in England here – it feels almost Mediterranean. 

There’s plenty to keep you at the house during your stay, but if you want to venture out, you’ll be well rewarded. There are gorgeous walks along River Wensum to be discovered, starting from the 17th-century Raynham Hall just outside the village. Further afield, you can paddle in the shallows at Holkham Beach, which is thirty-three minutes away by car. Nature-lovers will want to drive the thirty-two minutes to the seal colony at Blakeney Point – it’s a wonderful sight. 

There’s something for everyone at this fabulous home. You’ll be planning your return visit before you’ve even left the grounds.

This quirky converted church makes for an ideal creative countryside retreat. The open-plan downstairs, where the pews used to be, has been given over to create a vast double-height space with one double bedroom leading off it and a single and master bedroom found upstairs. The building was originally constructed as a Methodist chapel, and it retains some of that spiritual atmosphere, with a piano, drum kit and guitar – plus a fully equipped kitchen – at hand for whenever musical or culinary inspiration strikes.  Located in the village of Briston and just fifteen minutes from the coast, it's a great base to explore the natural beauty of the area and charming towns like Holt and Cromer. The butcher, baker and greengrocer (no candlestick maker, unfortunately), plus a Co-op, are only around a hundred metres away. At the same time, the local pub serves good food and is only a short walk away. If you'd like to see how the other half live, there are many stately homes and gardens to visit nearby, including Sandringham, the Blickling Estate and Holkham Hall, all within a thirty-five-minute drive.

After a restful slumber in Egyptian cotton linens, step outside and enjoy your morning brew to the sound of birdsong and gently rustling leaves. Between adventures, spend your days sunbathing on the lawn, reading in the conservatory and, come sunset, sipping cocktails on the furnished patio.

Pensthorpe Natural Park, as featured in BBC's Springwatch, is a fifteen-minute drive away, while Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve, home to the Hawk and Owl Trust is under a ten-minute drive. On the other hand, if you fancy a day at the beach, this home is only thirty minutes in the car from the North Norfolk coast, much of which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Hindolveston, this former Old Dairy is the ideal retreat for families and friends looking to explore the spectacular north Norfolk coastline less than half an hour's drive away. 
 
Linger over breakfast in the fresh and uplifting open-plan living area as the early morning sunshine streams in – there's a basket of logs for the wood burner if you want to ramp up the cosy factor. On warmer days, open up the French doors and take breakfast out into the sunny garden as kids run off some steam on the lawns. You could easily while away the whole day out here, with a barbecue at the ready and atmospheric garden lighting to keep the night flowing. 

When it's time to get out and about, you're just a seventeen-minute drive away from the smart Georgian town of Holt, with its antique galleries, boutiques, and charming cafés. Blakeney's picturesque harbour (a twenty-three-minute drive) is the perfect spot for an afternoon's crabbing or seal-spotting. And there are beautiful beaches aplenty – Brancaster, Sheringham, and Cromer are just a few of the many hidden gems waiting for you to discover.

This cosy home is perfect for country getaways for two. It’s a peaceful space that’s been renovated from an old schoolhouse – in the courtyard you can still spot some of the little ones’ markings. Perhaps the happy history of the home imbues it with a laid-back vibe, because this is a place for relaxing – and spending quality time together, of course. 

When you wake up in the morning after a comfortable night’s sleep, you’re greeted by a leafy view through the window. Take your morning coffee out to the south-facing courtyard and start your day by breathing in the fresh, country air. You might like to stroll seven minutes into the centre of Reepham to explore the charming market town. The market is held every Wednesday, and there are plenty of independent shops, cafes and pubs to visit. 

If you want to get out into the countryside that surrounds the home, you have plenty of options. You could drive ten minutes to the Marriott’s Way route – this 26-mile path between Norwich and Aylsham is wonderful on foot or by bike. The Broads National Park is thirty-four minutes away by car, and you can be paddling on Cromer beach in thirty-six minutes. 

After a day out exploring, you can breathe a sigh of relief when you return to the peace of the old schoolhouse. Sip a glass of wine in the courtyard or curl up under the beams by the electric wood burner.

And don't even get us started on the garden. When you fancy exploring, the nearby village of Thursford has a 500-year old wood (excellent spot for walks), a famous steam engine museum (ideal for trainspotters) and a few country eateries (perfect for afternoon pints). Not far from the Norfolk coast, you can explore the marshes in Cley-next-the-Sea, spot seals in Blakeney or sprawl out on the sandy beaches in Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham, about twenty minutes away by car.

If you're looking for a luxurious, romantic retreat in Norfolk – this newly refurbished cottage could be the place for you. Unwind with a glass of Champagne in the hot tub at the end of the beautiful garden, filled with roses and other cottage garden plants. Later, settle down in the reading corner, next to the log burner, with a good book and a glass of wine from the wine chiller. We adore the vistas over the green and village pond from this cottage – it's the picture-perfect view. As night falls, have a long soak in the free-standing bath with the organic toiletries provided – utter bliss. Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this.

If this characterful Norfolk cottage were any sweeter, we’d eat it right up. The exterior is pure chocolate box, and the inside is bursting with beamed period charm. The host is an interior designer with a true collector’s eye and has filled the cottage with an eclectic mix of vintage pieces and curios. From taxidermy vignettes to Serge Moullie inspired art, there are unexpected details at every turn. 

Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. This Grade II Listed cottage has a fantastic location right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. Do some beachcombing on Wells-next-the-Sea Beach (around twenty minutes on foot). Then, afterwards, have a stroll along the Quay, a one-minute walk away, and enjoy some fish and chips or pick up some catch of the day from the pretty harbour. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants, as well as a delicatessen, butchers and fishmonger within a five-minute stroll. Take some local produce back to this lovely home, prepare a meal in the modern kitchen, and then savour it at the table in the sunny courtyard. Or when the weather turns chilly, light the log burning stove (your lovely host provides a starter pack of logs in the colder months) and relax with a glass of wine on the sofa. This stylish cottage is everything you would want from a seaside retreat – we love the original features, such as the old beams, which blend beautifully with the chic furnishings. With so much out and about, too, you’ll probably need to book again to fit it all in.
