We love the character here, especially the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams in the living space. This country retreat is perfect for entertaining your family and friends. On warm days, relax in the sheltered courtyard or the undercover seating area with its twinkly lights – ideal for a glass of Champagne as the light fades. A wildlife lovers paradise, you'll see your host's Guineafowl roaming around, while you may be lucky enough to spot barn owls or otters in the surrounding area. Pensthorpe Natural Park, as featured in BBC's Springwatch, is a fifteen-minute drive away, while Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve, home to the Hawk and Owl Trust is under a ten-minute drive. It's the same distance to the market town of Fakenham, with its weekly market, cinema, bowling centre and shops. You can spot the village’s old church tower from your private garden, where a patio provides a place to sit in the sun and fire up the gas barbecue, and a vast lawn stretches before you. Or, head inside to the sunny kitchen diner where dining is set for the whole group. Scandi-chic interiors make for a relaxing living room, set around a traditional wood-burning stove should the weather turn chilly. Lady Of The Lodge

On arrival at the idyllic Holkham Estate on the North Norfolk coast, you’ll feel like you’ve walked right onto the set of Downton Abbey. You’ll find this charming gatehouse from the mid-1800s on the southern fringes of the estate. Its style is simple and elegant, which lets the gorgeous countryside on the other side of the decorative lead windows do all the talking. Touches such as the log burner in the living room and a winged velvet sofa keep things cosy and faithful to the home’s character. There’s plenty of hiking and cycling to enjoy on the estate, not to mention checking out the grand main house, one of the UK's most spectacular country piles. But our top tip is the windswept Holkham Beach – an unspoilt stretch of coast where Gwyneth Paltrow walked through the sand in the last scene of Shakespeare in Love.

Behind The Gate

This home is a real showstopper. It’s a Georgian home in the small historic village of South Raynham, in the heart of north west Norfolk’s countryside. Surrounded by walking trails and lush grounds, it’s a real escape – as soon as you spot the mansion-like house on the approach, you’ll feel your worries melt away. 

Ideal for entertaining large groups, this home has heaps of space, with a room for every occasion. You might begin your day in the breakfast room, tucking into a hearty breakfast together as you plan your day. Perhaps you’ll then sip coffee in the orangery, which looks out over the heated swimming pool. After a dip, tennis might be on the cards, or if that’s a little too energetic, perhaps a refined game of croquet on the lawn? You might explore the grounds, or curl up in the sitting room with a book and enjoy some peace and quiet. Kids will love the games room on the second floor, where they can play table football and watch movies. 

If you’ve something to celebrate, the formal dining room is a fabulous spot for dinner. You’ll dine beneath a chandelier in this grand space – you’ll definitely want to pop open the Champagne. For more informal meals, we love the alfresco dining area. Fire up the barbecue and dine late into the evening outside, alongside the pool. It’s easy to forget you’re in England here – it feels almost Mediterranean. 

There’s plenty to keep you at the house during your stay, but if you want to venture out, you’ll be well rewarded. There are gorgeous walks along River Wensum to be discovered, starting from the 17th-century Raynham Hall just outside the village. Further afield, you can paddle in the shallows at Holkham Beach, which is thirty-three minutes away by car. Nature-lovers will want to drive the thirty-two minutes to the seal colony at Blakeney Point – it’s a wonderful sight. 

There’s something for everyone at this fabulous home. You’ll be planning your return visit before you’ve even left the grounds.

Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. You’re just a short drive from North Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches, and the bustling town of Burnham Market. If you don’t feel like a drive, the surrounding countryside is ripe for walking, and the local pub is just five minutes away.

Nestled into the outskirts of a quaint village, surrounded by towering trees and lush greenery, stands this beautiful lodge. With plenty of outdoor space and comforting interiors, it's a great choice for a family or friends' getaway.

We love how this home strikes a balance between cosy and spacious – patio doors line the walls of the living room, while the plush sofas, exposed brick, and fireplace add a warmth to the place. You'll love spending cosy evenings in here, watching a film on the TV, or just catching up, while the fireplace warms you up from the inside out. 

Not only is this home a wonderful and relaxing place to stay, but it's also conveniently located just a fifteen-minute walk from Thursford, a small village with great pubs. The village is also home to Thursford Collection, a popular museum that hosts silent movie nights, houses old-fashioned fairground rides, and puts on a huge annual Christmas show. But if you're craving that fresh, salty air of the seaside, it's just under a twenty-minute drive to Wells-next-the-Sea, famous for its gorgeous beaches, breathtaking scenery, and charming town centre. 

However you spend the day, you'll love coming home to your cosy lodge. If the weather holds up, your spacious garden is made for barbecues and drinks. Or, you can whip something up in the well-equipped kitchen to be enjoyed around the homely dining table beneath the warm-toned light fixtures, before getting into a board game. 

Pine Lodge

This Grade II Listed cottage has a fantastic location right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. Do some beachcombing on Wells-next-the-Sea Beach (around twenty minutes on foot). Then, afterwards, have a stroll along the Quay, a one-minute walk away, and enjoy some fish and chips or pick up some catch of the day from the pretty harbour. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants, as well as a delicatessen, butchers and fishmonger within a five-minute stroll. Take some local produce back to this lovely home, prepare a meal in the modern kitchen, and then savour it at the table in the sunny courtyard. Or when the weather turns chilly, light the log burning stove (your lovely host provides a starter pack of logs in the colder months) and relax with a glass of wine on the sofa. This stylish cottage is everything you would want from a seaside retreat – we love the original features, such as the old beams, which blend beautifully with the chic furnishings. With so much out and about, too, you’ll probably need to book again to fit it all in.

Only a twenty-minute ride from Wells-next-the-Sea Beach on the beloved Norfolk Coast, this traditional home sits in the quiet village of Hindringham. See the flowers bloom in the summertime at Hindringham Hall Gardens, just fifteen minutes away on foot. Alternatively, you can buy local produce at the nearby mill and farm shops on your way to Holt – a pretty market town that waits seven miles down the road.

Drive up to this brick and flint cottage and leave your wellies by the front door. Here, you'll wake up beneath a sloped ceiling and wander downstairs into your homely kitchen to cook breakfast. We think the dining room is the perfect place to make plans for the day. When you return, why not read a book in this bright conservatory as your dogs run through the garden? You'll even discover a hi-fi system and board games to keep the whole family entertained. Or, bring your favourite DVDs and cosy up in the living room for a movie night.

A True Love Of Mine

This lovely home takes a classic English barn and renovates it into a chic, open space with all the country charm and none of the snug spaces. Glass walkways and enormous French windows in the living area add a contemporary edge to the original wooden beams and red-tiled roof. Not only is it open and bright, but it's perfect for socialising. You can easily flit between cooking in the kitchen and relaxing on the sofa, keeping the conversation flowing the whole time. And don't even get us started on the garden. Scented with honeysuckle and lavender, it's the very picture of a country idyll, with a small gate leading into a secret orchard straight from the pages of a period novel. Lounge in the fresh air with a glass of wine while the little ones (and the pups) run around in the sunshine. For dinner, throw something delicious on the barbecue and dine alfresco as the sun sets.

When you fancy exploring, the nearby village of Thursford has a 500-year old wood (excellent spot for walks), a famous steam engine museum (ideal for trainspotters) and a few country eateries (perfect for afternoon pints). Not far from the Norfolk coast, you can explore the marshes in Cley-next-the-Sea, spot seals in Blakeney or sprawl out on the sandy beaches in Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham, about twenty minutes away by car.

Golden Syrup

Tucked away at the end of a little lane, this charming converted barn offers an idyllic family getaway within easy reach of Norfolk’s stunning coastline. Dating back to 1796, this barn has been lovingly renovated to combine the home’s original features with modern touches. In terms of location, you’re in the quaint town of Stanhoe and just a few miles from the village or Burnham market, home to bakeries, cafés, a village shop and excellent pubs.

Here, you can look forward to spending your evenings curled up with a good book from the bookshelf and enjoying home-cooked meals in front of the log-burning fire on colder evenings. If the sun is shining, make the most of the charming garden – kids and furry friends will love the runaround whilst adults can sit back with a local cheeseboard. There are two sitting rooms here, which is ideal when everyone has their own routine. Set the little ones up in front of a film in the snug, and sink into the sitting room sofas for a glass of Picpoul de Pinet. 

And after a day of cliff-top walks along the North Coat Path and memorable birdwatches at RSPB Titchwell and Cley, this is precisely the kind of warm and welcoming home you long for. 

The Burnham Barn

Those 19th-century farmers knew what they were doing when they built these two divine cottages tucked away in the sleepy Norfolk village of Wighton. Now joined together and exquisitely reimagined into a luxurious seaside haven just an eleven-minute drive from the beach, this place has got charm by the trough load.

Inside, while the old 1800s bones remain (those exposed oak beams are everything), there's nothing twee about its interiors. Every inch of the home feels like an interior magazine come to life with heirloom-worthy antiques, vibrant textiles, and curated artwork bringing layers of interest and style.

Sunny mornings call for lazy coffees on the garden terrace as kids and furry friends run about on the lawns. But if the weather doesn't buck up, that breakfast room with French doors overlooking the garden is just as inviting, with the Aga keeping things toasty.

Upstairs, each bedroom set out over two floors is as dreamy as the next. And kids will love the novelty of the two staircases at either end of the house. Game of hide and seek, anyone? 

When it's time to spread your wings, take your pick from north Norfolk's best beaches. Pack a picnic and head for Wells-next-the-Sea (3 miles) and Holkham (5 miles). The vast sandy shores are the perfect playground for young and old alike when the tide is out. And when tummies start to rumble, the village pub (three minutes on foot) is just the ticket for hearty grub and a warm welcome.

To Hide & Seek

What a prime location this stylish cottage has – it's right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. You'll find a mix of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops to browse right on your doorstep. Or head to Holkham Beach (just over a twelve-minute drive away), where you may see the Household Cavalry riding their horses across the sands. It's just a twenty-minute stroll to Wells-next-the-Sea, too, with its pretty beach huts. After exploring all this town and the Norfolk coast offers, relax by the wood-burning stove (a starter pack of logs is provided in the colder months) or enjoy a coffee in the cute courtyard on warm days. Your lovely host has done a fantastic job sympathetically updating this place whilst retaining its original charm. When you're ready for a bit of rest, climb the traditional Norfolk winder stairs to the characterful and comfy bedrooms, before starting another exciting day of Norfolk adventures. This home is perfect for families, couples and friends who want to enjoy the great outdoors all year round.

Redshank

Travel down the tree-lined private lane, and you'll find this idyllic barn. We love the first-floor open plan living space with its lofty ceilings, exposed wooden beams, brickwork, and views across the Norfolk landscape. There's a beautiful log burner to warm yourself up if the weather turns cold. Large glass windows allow light to flood in, and there's a well-stocked bookcase and games to keep you occupied. When it's warm, there's a large garden with a verdant lawn – fire up the barbecue and grill some local produce for lunch.

Or head over to Sculthorpe, where you'll find a beautiful country pub, which was formerly a watermill, a two-minute drive or under a fifteen-minute walk. Other attractions nearby include the town of Fakenham with its range of shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, as well as Fakenham Racecourse, around 3 miles away. The traditional Georgian market town of Holt is just over twenty minutes by car, while Wells-Next-The-Sea, is fifteen minutes.



Owl Thoughts

Set within an exquisite Grade II-listed house, this palatial apartment blends country elegance with modern style. We loved the floor-to-ceiling windows, which flood the open-place space with natural light. With ground floor access to the beautiful shared garden, you can walk straight out to enjoy a tranquil morning sat around the terrace coffee table, or spend an afternoon having a picnic on the green. Located within walking distance to nearby shops and pubs, you’ll be able to explore the charming village of Binham.  Everything is steeped in history around here, but the early-twelfth-century Benedictine priory is a must-see. Luckily, it's so close you can spot it from the bedroom windows.

Warham Abbey

Nestled in the village of Field Dalling, this traditional brick and flint converted barn features exposed beams, vaulted ceilings and large windows through which you can gaze out onto the beautiful Norfolk countryside. The barn has a charming walled garden bursting with shrubbery and featuring an outdoor dining table that catches the evening sun. Spend lazy afternoons catching up on your reading while the kids run around in the expansive fields that surround this charming home. For days out, the stunning Holkham Hall estate is less than a ten-minute drive away, and the popular seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer are reached in less than forty-five minutes.

All's Well That Ends Wells

If you're looking for a luxurious, romantic retreat in Norfolk – this newly refurbished cottage could be the place for you. Unwind with a glass of Champagne in the hot tub at the end of the beautiful garden, filled with roses and other cottage garden plants. Later, settle down in the reading corner, next to the log burner, with a good book and a glass of wine from the wine chiller. We adore the vistas over the green and village pond from this cottage – it's the picture-perfect view. As night falls, have a long soak in the free-standing bath with the organic toiletries provided – utter bliss. Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this.

Hornigold

Tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Hindolveston, this former Old Dairy is the ideal retreat for families and friends looking to explore the spectacular north Norfolk coastline less than half an hour's drive away. 
 
Linger over breakfast in the fresh and uplifting open-plan living area as the early morning sunshine streams in – there's a basket of logs for the wood burner if you want to ramp up the cosy factor. On warmer days, open up the French doors and take breakfast out into the sunny garden as kids run off some steam on the lawns. You could easily while away the whole day out here, with a barbecue at the ready and atmospheric garden lighting to keep the night flowing. 

When it's time to get out and about, you're just a seventeen-minute drive away from the smart Georgian town of Holt, with its antique galleries, boutiques, and charming cafés. Blakeney's picturesque harbour (a twenty-three-minute drive) is the perfect spot for an afternoon's crabbing or seal-spotting. And there are beautiful beaches aplenty – Brancaster, Sheringham, and Cromer are just a few of the many hidden gems waiting for you to discover.

Hint of Flint

This exquisitely quaint cottage nestles into the winding streets that lead straight to the coast. From the living room’s cosy sofas and timber bookshelf, to the kitchen’s rustic design with wooden countertops, this cottage quietly boasts an idyllic interior. There are two homely bedrooms with plush comforters promising dreamy nights. An outside terrace has a private garden bench and a large space to soak in the sun, though sun-chasers will want to flock to the coast nearby. Five minutes by foot and you'll be quayside, roaming the independent cafes and shops. Rather, just a five-minute drive away lies Holkham beach, famed for its stunning sands.

There's a real sense of tradition at this Grade II-listed Georgian millhouse, which is nestled in the sleepy hamlet of Worthing on the edge of the Blackwater River. Every nook and cranny harks back to the home's heritage, from the stone walls to the gorgeous wooden beams. We're blown away by how much room there is – while parents sip tea in the sunroom or snooze in the cosy bedrooms, kids can hide themselves away in the loft, listening to records and gaming on the Playstation.

But when you're not playing pool in the game room, warming your toes in front of the wood-burning fire or rustling up a hearty supper on the Stanley cooker in the kitchen, chances are, you'll be making the most of the weather out in the garden. The 1.5 acres of land runs right along the river, where swans, herons and the occasional otter come to play. At one end, you'll find an apple orchard, the other a folly, and in between, there's more than enough space to kick a ball around, host barbecues and lounge in the sunshine. Plus, it's just a five-minute walk to the nearest pub and driving distance to many more – not to mention only a thirty-minute drive from the picturesque Norfolk coast. We think it's the perfect retreat for some family fun in the countryside.
