You'll find this Grade II listed Georgian townhouse situated on a street that might look familiar – it's been the backdrop for many films, including the Personal History of David Copperfield. There's no doubt that this area is brimming with history and heritage and this home is the same, filled with period features and modern conveniences that perfectly marry old with new. 

The cosiest room is the living area, with its sumptuous sofas, sash windows and a crackling fireplace taking centre stage. Upstairs, the bedrooms each have their own personality and original character – we particularly love the ornamental fireplace in the main bedroom – and a separate study provides a bit of peace if you need to work from home. Fancy cooking? The kitchen is stocked with dinnerware, crockery and everything else you'll need to whip up something delicious to share around the ten-seater dining table. But our favourite spot is the sunny courtyard, where you can sip your morning coffee and enjoy cocktails on slow, summer evenings.

If you're looking for a luxurious, romantic retreat in Norfolk – this newly refurbished cottage could be the place for you. Unwind with a glass of Champagne in the hot tub at the end of the beautiful garden, filled with roses and other cottage garden plants. Later, settle down in the reading corner, next to the log burner, with a good book and a glass of wine from the wine chiller. We adore the vistas over the green and village pond from this cottage – it's the picture-perfect view. As night falls, have a long soak in the free-standing bath with the organic toiletries provided – utter bliss. Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this.

An interesting fact about this former stable block is that in the same year it was completed — 1881 — the architect behind the design, Alfred Waterhouse, also finished work on the National History Museum. Admittedly, this building in the Norfolk village of Crimplesham is slightly less spectacular than the London museum, but there are still double-height ceilings and a large staircase upon entrance for a touch of grandeur. There have been a lot of changes in the interior since the late nineteenth century, but the wholesale modernisation feels in keeping with the country location, especially in the large wood-panelled kitchen, the comfy living room complete with a roaring fireplace and the games room that's accessible through a secret bookcase. There's an enclosed garden with alfresco seating and a barbecue, but there's plenty more to see and do outside in the local area. The historical town of Ely takes just under half an hour to reach in the car, while the coast at Hunstanton can be reached in forty minutes' drive. Closer to home, the quaint town of Downham Market is an hour away on foot.

This old dairy, set on the Burghley Estate, is a peaceful getaway for large groups and makes a pretty picture for small celebrations. Throughout the restoration of the dairy and its conversion into cottages, an emphasis remained on the history of this building, and plenty of the original features remain to make this a charming and comfortable stay. With two wings, it also grants everyone plenty of space, though the mezzanine bedrooms can only be accessed through several ground-floor rooms, which might not feel the most private. Still, it's a beautiful space, and the estate is within the Capability Brown Parkland, first landscaped in the early 1700s and still as lush and inviting, perfect for walks with the dogs.

If you're looking to get away from it all, this home is in the ideal spot. All on the ground floor, it's set in a wing of a Grade II listed Palladian Villa and surrounded by 200 acres of unspoilt parkland. Originally built in the 1930s for use during the shooting season, the main part of this impressive house is now a family home. Beautiful arched windows let the sunlight stream into the spacious living room and offer views out over the grounds. 

Step straight from your door to explore the woodland, meadows and lakes of this vast estate – and if you're lucky, you'll catch a glimpse of deers, badgers, otters and all kinds of birdlife. Or enjoy a few games of tennis on the owner's outdoor court. 

It's only a four-minute drive to the nearest pub, or it's a fifteen-minute ride to the delightful coastal town of Cromer with its pier walk, crabbing, and fish and chips by the shore. Set within over 100 acres of grounds, this handsome Georgian house is surrounded by manicured gardens, woodland walks and activities like clay pigeon shooting and archery. The home’s private garden features a heated swimming pool for sunny days and you can still sit and listen to the birdsong in the huge conservatory if the weather turns. Or, head inside to the games room for a round of pool or foosball by the wood-burning stove. The kitchen, with its gas range cooker and oodles of prep space, is more than big enough for the bustle of family breakfast time, and the old servant’s bells are still on display. Tucked into a corner of the kitchen you'll find a little TV snug, warmed by the purr of an Aga. Gather the group in the dining room with its view across the fields outside, or head up to the privacy of beautiful bedrooms, each decorated with its own motif – paisley and peacocks perhaps, or a princess-style four-poster and freestanding tub. If you don’t feel like cooking, the estate staff can arrange for a private chef, or you can make the short walk to the Brisley Bell which serves excellent food.
