Pocket-sized yet cosy, we think this home is a great option for solo travellers, couples or those in town on business. Other attractions include the smallest pub in the UK and Norwich Cathedral, while a little further afield, Whitlingham Lake is worth a look, especially if you like water activities such as kayaking and canoeing.

The farmhouse is in a quiet countryside setting, so you can really relax and unwind. Days out might include a trip to the seaside at Cromer, which is a twenty-minute drive, or a walk to Bryant’s Heath and back – the path passes the church in the village and takes thirty-eight minutes one-way. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails straight from the front door, so you can really work up an appetite before returning for dinner in the stylish dining room.

The exquisitely renovated interior is cosy and welcoming. Hardwood floors, exposed brickwork, and beam-clad ceilings offer a characterful canvas primed for relaxation. We especially love the sitting room with its plush velvet sofas and wood-burning fireplace, not to mention the delightful country-house kitchen, where a spacious dining table offers a lovely space for homecooked feasts with your clan. 

Framed by a grade-two listed stone wall and dense woodland, a private south-facing garden beckons you to feel completely immersed in nature. While away the evening with a board game or two by the cosy woodburner, rustle up a traditional Sunday roast in the fully equipped kitchen, or gaze out at the surrounding countryside from the upstairs living area before turning on the TV to catch up on your favourite shows. 

Of course, it’s not just the inside space that caught our eye here. Set in acres of open parkland, this home is the perfect setting for a relaxing rural retreat, boasting its own tree-lined garden and secluded patio, ideal for dining alfresco on mouth-watering meals straight from the barbecue. There's a lot to love about this converted barn in the heart of the Norfolk countryside. And its peaceful setting, surrounded by woodlands, water meadows and gardens are just the beginning. How about a tennis court? And, of course, what would a home in the Broads be without water access? This place has it all. On the River Bure, adventurous types can bring a canoe or paddle board, and even paddle along to the nearby riverside pub. You'll have your own fishing spot if that's how you prefer to spend your afternoons, or just bring your binoculars and look out for otters, kingfishers and more. Indoors, it's a bright and modern space, with a sociable living area and stylish kitchen – complete with a huge island. Patio doors open to a private terrace, and we love the vaulted ceilings and stripped-back original beams. There's a bedroom on the ground floor, with direct access outside, and the family bathroom is on that level too, while the master and third bedroom are upstairs (the third having a unique, low level window overlooking the dining room). With fifteen acres of land to explore, there are great walks to be had from your doorstep, and here you'll be about twenty minutes by car from Norwich in one direction, and the stunning Norfolk coast in the other.

Set in the sleepy village of Hevingham, and with field upon field surrounding you – there's little in the way of bustle here. However, neighbouring Buxton has a much-loved fish and chips shop, and there are traditional pubs just a few minutes drive away. Ready to explore? With its thatched roof and shuttered windows, you couldn't ask for a cuter cottage than this Grade-II listed address sitting in the middle of a country estate in rural Norfolk.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.

There are too many good things about The Hobart Spring to list, but suffice to say that it’s every bit as good as it looks. Most of the buildings date to the 1470s, when Sir James Hobart (later attorney general to the king) built his family home. Our favourite room (not an easy decision) is the kitchen, which looks beautifully traditional, but alongside the Aga, has an electric oven, gas hob, espresso machine and more. You can also pick herbs from the raised beds in the back. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

A hidden gem on a pretty countryside lane in the village of Neatishead, this cosy lodge is perfect for peaceful couple retreats or solo getaways. With incredible views across the spacious garden throughout this home, what could be a better way to start your day than to wake up to green vistas before taking your morning cuppa alfresco to the outdoor table on the patio?

The best way to experience the Norfolk Broads is by boat, and the ‘Capital of the Norfolk Broads’ Wroxham – where you can hire a boat or take a tour up the river – is a short eleven-minute drive from your door here. So, roam up the river and admire the views before you stop for lunch at one of the restaurants, pubs or cafes, many of which even offer riverside seating. 

The village of Neatishead itself is also a quiet and unspoilt area of Norfolk, with its own pub, village shop and swim barn – a pool which you can book online. Plus, there are plenty of country lanes that make great places for walking or cycling. 

In the evening, when the weather allows it, we would love nothing more than to dine alfresco in the garden at this home. Then, snuggle up inside with a good book or play a board game together.

This converted mill is a dreamy place to while away a few days. Nestled in the rolling Norfolk countryside, it's the perfect place to begin your adventures in this lovely corner of England. 

There are 200 years of history steeped in this wonderful home, and you'll find period details everywhere, from the brickwork to the beamed ceilings. The unique layout, with its gallery study overlooking the main living space, just adds to the charm. Catch up on some work at the desk, or select a novel from the collection and curl up beside the roaring log fire to get toasty. And, on warm days, you can head out to the garden for a game of table tennis, or simply sip a glass of wine on the terrace as you gaze out at the water below. 

From here, walkers and cyclists can hit the trails to explore – or, hire a boat and glide through the landscapes. History buffs will be intrigued by the Whitwell & Reepham Railway Station, just a fifteen-minute walk away from the home. And, if you fancy a day at the seaside, you can drive over to Cromer in around thirty-five minutes to hit the beach.

As well as having all the essentials for a romantic getaway, there are house plants, colourful pieces of artwork and a turquoise accent wall to give the place a bit of character without overdoing it — one of the hosts is an interior designer, can't you tell? Out through the glass door, there's a large garden with a cosy seating area at the far end and plenty of potted plants dotted about. You'll find that there's a real sense of peace here. The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.

Although the Norfolk coastline is only half an hour's drive away, you don't even have to get in the car if you fancy a refreshing dip while staying here. Out in the garden, a heated swimming pool will be the place to play and relax all throughout the summer months.

The 16th-century rectory, once home to poet William Cowper, was replaced in 1852 by Rev Barry, brother of the Parliament architect. After rustling up dinner in the country kitchen (which is has everything you'll need to cook), sprawl out on the squishy leather sofas for a movie night – there's Prime, Netflix and Disney+, so you'll have plenty of options. On summer days, take your relaxing out into the enclosed garden, nursing a glass of wine or firing up the barbecue as the kids (and dogs) let loose in the fresh air.

Nestled in Salhouse in the idyllic Norfolk Broads, this area calls for long walks through the beautiful countryside and boat rides down the River Bure. There are two fantastic village pubs and a quaint tea room within walking distance, plus many more along the water in the Broads. It's a twenty-five-minute drive to Caister-on-Sea if you fancy a beach day, and fifteen to Norwich when you crave a bit more pace.
