Bamburgh’s location on the Northumberland Coast makes it splendid for a trip out on the water, just as much as fish and chips on the shore. Between the dunes and the green perimeter of this tiny town, your house sits pretty at just over half a mile from Bamburgh Beach and its famed castle. But if you choose sea over the land, you’ll be well looked after – this town is home of Victorian maritime heroine Grace Darling.

While this fabulous holiday home is certainly on land, there are still nods to the coast. Grey wooden slats on the exterior are reminiscent of a traditional wooden rowboat, while the front door even features a perfectly round porthole. You can admire it from the outside while sitting on your patio with a chilled bottle of fizz, or on the lush lawn surrounded by a picnic and a few G&Ts. And there’s even more admiring to do inside.

We love the elegant interiors – a striking scene upon entering the lounge. White beams, dark hardwood floors, and Scandi-style furniture set a modern tone. But rustic tradition isn’t far away, with an Aga range cooker and log-burner taking you back to days of old. Superbly stylish throughout, pour another glass and say a toast to dear old Grace – perhaps from the comfort of your marble-clad tub.

It's not every day you wake up to castle views, but then again, not every home is as fabulously located as this one. Smack-dab in the heart of Bamburgh, you'll be treated to fantastic panoramas of the town's historic landmark from the main bedroom, living room and suntrap garden. How's that for a view?

Days spent lounging on the sand are definitely a given, but, if you'd rather enjoy a laid-back afternoon at home, the garden is the perfect spot. A timber playset is available for children, a lawn is great for furry friends, and outdoor seating lets parents relax with a refreshing drink. We think the nautical-inspired interiors are lovely, too. The log burner keeps things cosy during the cooler months and the soaker bath is just what you need after a day exploring the Northumbrian coast. On the ground floor alone, there's both a sun room with huge windows bringing in lots of natural light, as well as a cosy living room with a wood-burning stove around which to gather after a bracing walk in the elements. The large kitchen with a lovably retro serving hatch has a wealth of surface space for whipping up family-sized feasts, which can be enjoyed around the dining table.

Alternatively, if the forecast makes for pleasant reading during your visit, it would be a crying shame not to make the most of the table that sits in the middle of the back garden's terrace – there's a barbecue present if you really want to embrace the alfresco way of life.

The Northumberland Coast is home to 14th-century castles, vast sandy beaches, rare wildlife, and dramatic views. And in the aptly named Seahouses, this quaint, coastal settlement is home to this gorgeous abode. Just an eleven-minute walk from the local harbour (from where you can take a boat trip out to spot puffins and lighthouses on the Farne Islands), this charming stone cottage is every bit the traditional, English home you’d expect. However, the interiors are beautifully modern, tasteful and creative. We love the juxtaposition of rustic elements like the wood-burning stove and antique sideboard, with industrial-style lampshades and vibrant art prints on the walls. The skylights on the sloped ceilings bring in that seaside sunshine, but equally make a great spot for stargazing. The private patio is another great location for staring at the Milky Way – of course not before a fresh grill on the barbecue, followed by a few alfresco gin and tonics. But if you'd rather venture out, there's a dog-friendly pub just over the road, while the centre of Seahouses with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants is just a five-minute walk from your front door.

After a long walk on the beach, enjoy a cup of tea in the pretty courtyard garden and rest your feet. Or, if it's chilly, warm up next to the log burner on the modern chesterfield sofa in the stylish living space. We love the cool grey and sunny yellow colour scheme here. This place is perfect for family or friends.

This stone-built cottage is just over 300 metres from the seafront in the town of Seahouses. There are bars under 200 metres away too, or you can play some golf or go horse riding nearby. Beadnell Bay, only a few miles north, is great for sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving too. This home has sea views from the doorstep and access to a small patio area which is part of a communal courtyard shared with other neighbours. Inside, there’s a wood burner for cosy nights in, but at full capacity, there’s only one bathroom for five guests.

Or from the harbour, you can get a boat to the beautiful Farne Islands or make use of the Ocean Leisure Club (membership is included while staying at this home, but a small entrance fee applies).

Live the rural dream with a stay in this wonderful home, part of a converted farm steading. It's nestled in the hamlet of Adderstone, and provides the perfect gateway to the wildly beautiful Northumberland countryside. 

With its traditional red-tiled roof and stone walls, the house is a handsome sight amongst the fields. Step inside, and you'll find a surprisingly modern space, cloaked in blue and grey tones with plenty of natural light.
