Fancy breaking things up with an afternoon at a swimming pool and spa? Then make use of the host's membership to The Ocean Club in nearby Seahouses. You can book in for a fitness class, treatments and a splash about the children's pool. When we say you’re footsteps from the beach here, we mean it. A stone staircase leads directly from this home to the soft sand of Smuggler’s Bay, so you’ve got beach days at your fingertips. Inside, there’s a wood burner for cosy nights in, but at full capacity, there’s only one bathroom for five guests.

History buffs are truly spoilt, with Alnwick Castle, Bamburg Castle, and Dunstanburgh Castle all within a short drive. Walkers and cyclists can pack a picnic and explore the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just a stone's throw away. And, if you fancy a day trip, you can drive down to Newcastle in around an hour, to immerse yourself in the lively city.

You can't beat this home's location. While restaurants, pubs, and Seahouses' picturesque harbour are a five-minute walk away, what we love most is that two miles of sandy beach sits just across the road. Inside, two cosy lounges offer space for both grown-ups and youngsters to unwind – one even has a collection of board games, DVDs, and an XBOX 360 for rainy days. Head outside and you'll find a sunny garden overlooking the Cheviot Hills – perfect for pups and kids to let loose. A ten-minute drive away is Bamburgh Castle, making this an ideal spot to explore the Northumberland Coast. 

The Shore & The Ship

This home is a lesson in not being misled by first impressions. Yes, it's a stone cottage sitting in the middle of a farm, but step behind the front door and you'll find an interior that's as bright and contemporary as any.

Much of this is down to the bountiful amounts of natural light that streams through the glass doors and roof lantern, although the stark white walls and reflective wooden floors help, too. As well as a long kitchen finished in a muted grey, there's a stylish collection of furnishings dotted about the space, too.

However, it's not just easy on the eye. The wood-burning stove is lovely to have crackling away in the background during the chillier months, but there's a southeast-facing garden complete with a lounge and large lawn should the weather gods be smiling down on you during your visit.

Lying just around the corner from Seahouses Harbour, the stone facade of this home looks like it's been a fixture here for years, but it's a fairly recent addition. This becomes abundantly clear as you glance around the contemporarily styled interior for the first time.

Spread across a single floor, the colour palette of muted greys and whites is bright and inviting, while there's a wealth of surface space in the sleek kitchen for when you want to whip up seafood banquets. The designers haven't completely done away with rustic cosiness, though – what could be a cuter way of ending a productive day than gathering around the crackling flames by the living room's stove?

As already mentioned, the town's harbour is just a three-minute walk away and it's possible to head out on nautical expeditions, including diving and trips to the bird-spotting hotspot, Farne Islands. If you prefer to stay on land, there are walking routes and scenic points aplenty in the surrounding Northumberland Coast AONB, too.

Make the most of having your own personal watchtower where you can witness views of Budle Bay from different angles. We particularly adore the addition of a telescope, which will allow you to explore the distant scenery. Budle Bay has built a reputation as a bird sanctuary, so you might just spot birds like wildfowl and waders flying past. The home itself oozes a connection to the sea and the sandy bays that surround it – from the lush blues of the furnishings to the decorative touches.

Being located on the edge of historic Bamburgh, in the small village of Waren Mill, means you can enjoy long, quiet walks and energetic hikes through the countryside and along the coast here. A trip to Bamburgh Castle followed by a stroll along Bamburgh's sandy shores is a must. It takes five-minutes to drive here and you can easily while away hours marveling at the scenery. If you watched The Last Kingdom on Netflix, then you may just recognise the castle – it's pretty iconic to the storyline! Going slightly further afield, Northumbria National Park can be reached within thirty-minutes, and here you'll find beautiful walks amongst the lush countryside.

Nestled into the village of Belford, you’ll be surrounded by rural farms and beautiful hills, perfect for idyllic walks. In fact, staying here means getting the best of both worlds as you are neatly tucked away between the Northumberland coastline and the beautiful wilderness of Northumberland National Park. Spend your days going for long country or coastal walks, visit the nearby town of Bamburgh for its famous castle, or simply sit back in front of the wood-burning stove, read a book and enjoy each other’s company. Weather permitting, we also highly recommend spending some time in the private decking area. Wake up and enjoy your coffee in the morning sun, for example, or end the day with a glass of wine after being out and about all day.

Such is the proximity to the picturesque harbour, you can sometimes smell the crisp scent of the sea air from the comfort of your home. The glistening water and passing boats can be seen from your home – an inspiring view to wake up to and prepare you for a day on Craster's coast. 

The attic of the home has been transformed into a cosy snug room, formed of comfy seats and an inverted roof. Children might want to use it as a fun bunker or adults can take advantage of the privacy and relax with a glass of wine. 

Downstairs, the home radiates with a stylish and contemporary decor. Light, wooden flooring decorates the kitchen and living rooms, creating a bright, roomy vibe to each space. The living room has pretty views of the harbour – it's a cosy spot to curl up and watch the gentle waves of the water.

This charming stone-built cottage in picturesque Northumberland is perfect for those looking for a peaceful getaway. The spacious sitting room features a wood-burning stove, ideal for cosying up on cooler evenings, while the well-equipped kitchen and separate snug area make this cottage feel like a home away from home. Outside, guests can enjoy a sunny patio with garden table and chairs, plus there’s a stone outbuilding for storing bikes. Exploring the area, Bamburgh is a twelve-minute drive away (or a half-hour cycle) and the closest pub is three miles away.

The kitchen/dining room has a door to a west-facing balcony too, great for sunsets. It is just a minute's walk from Seahouses' commercial hub with all of its shops, restaurants and bars. Or from the harbour, you can get a boat to the beautiful Farne Islands or make use of the Ocean Leisure Club (membership is included while staying at this home, but a small entrance fee applies).
