Take a mosey into the centre (a mere 0.8 mile walk away) for a dose of British seaside nostalgia with fish and chips at the beach followed by a beachcombing amble. Treat the family to a game of crazy golf or rock pooling. Or hop on a boat trip and journey to Farne Islands – it's Attenborough's favourite place, don't you know.

Back home, the Scandi-inspired interiors of this chic home feel like a dose of fresh sea air after busy days on the beach. Marble accents and butter-soft leather armchairs add a dash of luxury, while abstract sea-inspired prints subtly remind us the sea is never far away. Over in the light-filled bedrooms, there are impeccably finished en suite shower rooms for a little added privacy. And the icing on the cake? A suntrap private terrace that's prime for lazy morning coffees with the papers, evening sundowners and anything else in between.

With only forty-six designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the country, you can make your stay truly special by staying within one of these striking landscapes. The Northumberland Coast is home to 14th-century castles, vast sandy beaches, rare wildlife, and dramatic views. And in the aptly named Seahouses, this quaint, coastal settlement is home to this gorgeous abode. Just an eleven-minute walk from the local harbour (from where you can take a boat trip out to spot puffins and lighthouses on the Farne Islands), this charming stone cottage is every bit the traditional, English home you’d expect. However, the interiors are beautifully modern, tasteful and creative. We love the juxtaposition of rustic elements like the wood-burning stove and antique sideboard, with industrial-style lampshades and vibrant art prints on the walls. The skylights on the sloped ceilings bring in that seaside sunshine, but equally make a great spot for stargazing. The private patio is another great location for staring at the Milky Way – of course not before a fresh grill on the barbecue, followed by a few alfresco gin and tonics. But if you'd rather venture out, there's a dog-friendly pub just over the road, while the centre of Seahouses with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants is just a five-minute walk from your front door.

Lying just around the corner from Seahouses Harbour, the stone facade of this home looks like it's been a fixture here for years, but it's a fairly recent addition. This becomes abundantly clear as you glance around the contemporarily styled interior for the first time.

Spread across a single floor, the colour palette of muted greys and whites is bright and inviting, while there's a wealth of surface space in the sleek kitchen for when you want to whip up seafood banquets. The designers haven't completely done away with rustic cosiness, though – what could be a cuter way of ending a productive day than gathering around the crackling flames by the living room's stove?

As already mentioned, the town's harbour is just a three-minute walk away and it's possible to head out on nautical expeditions, including diving and trips to the bird-spotting hotspot, Farne Islands. If you prefer to stay on land, there are walking routes and scenic points aplenty in the surrounding Northumberland Coast AONB, too.

Enjoy Full English breakfasts at the dining table before heading out to explore the historic harbour area of Seahouses. Not far from there you’ll also find a beach where you can dip a toe into the chilly waters of the North Sea. Take a long walk along the coast before turning back to find a coffee shop or cafe where you can enjoy a hot drink and light bite. 

Golf enthusiasts can spend lazy days on the course at Seahouses Golf Club – minutes away – whilst everyone else heads out on a boat tour. Eat, drink, laugh and return to this home at the end of the day to put your feet up with a glass of wine.

This stone-built cottage is just over 300 metres from the seafront in the town of Seahouses. There are bars under 200 metres away too, or you can play some golf or go horse riding nearby. Beadnell Bay, only a few miles north, is great for sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving too. This home has sea views from the doorstep and access to a small patio area which is part of a communal courtyard shared with other neighbours. Inside, there’s a wood burner for cosy nights in, but at full capacity, there’s only one bathroom for five guests.

While restaurants, pubs, and Seahouses' picturesque harbour are a five-minute walk away, what we love most is that two miles of sandy beach sits just across the road. Inside, two cosy lounges offer space for both grown-ups and youngsters to unwind – one even has a collection of board games, DVDs, and an XBOX 360 for rainy days. Head outside and you'll find a sunny garden overlooking the Cheviot Hills – perfect for pups and kids to let loose. A ten-minute drive away is Bamburgh Castle, making this an ideal spot to explore the Northumberland Coast.
