You can't beat this home's location. While restaurants, pubs, and Seahouses' picturesque harbour are a five-minute walk away, what we love most is that two miles of sandy beach sits just across the road. Inside, two cosy lounges offer space for both grown-ups and youngsters to unwind – one even has a collection of board games, DVDs, and an XBOX 360 for rainy days. Head outside and you'll find a sunny garden overlooking the Cheviot Hills – perfect for pups and kids to let loose. A ten-minute drive away is Bamburgh Castle, making this an ideal spot to explore the Northumberland Coast.

For a traditional seaside holiday, you couldn't be much closer to the water's edge than this smart mews cottage. Set in the historic harbour area of the quaint North Northumberland coastal village of Seahouses, the beach is just a stone's throw away.

Inside, everywhere feels bright and breezy, just how we like our coastal homes to be. Kick off sandy shoes in the cloakroom and make your way into the dazzling white open-plan living space where soft blue accents unite the space and remind us the sea is never far away.

Guests love how spaced apart the bedrooms feel across two floors. Form an orderly queue for first dibs on that swoon-worthy bedroom with a separate dressing area and deep bath for an evening soak. Though that immaculate second king-sized bedroom with a Juliet balcony to steal a glimpse of the sea is an impressive consolation prize. And while there's no outdoor space to speak of, we don't think you'll mind with the harbour and beach so close.

When it's time for a dose of sea air, nip to the end of the road, and you can watch the boats bob into shore – made even more magical at sunset. Then take a mosey into the centre for a dose of British seaside nostalgia with fish and chips at the beach. The designers haven't completely done away with rustic cosiness, though – what could be a cuter way of ending a productive day than gathering around the crackling flames by the living room's stove?

As already mentioned, the town's harbour is just a three-minute walk away and it's possible to head out on nautical expeditions, including diving and trips to the bird-spotting hotspot, Farne Islands. If you prefer to stay on land, there are walking routes and scenic points aplenty in the surrounding Northumberland Coast AONB, too.

And in the aptly named Seahouses, this quaint, coastal settlement is home to this gorgeous abode. Just an eleven-minute walk from the local harbour (from where you can take a boat trip out to spot puffins and lighthouses on the Farne Islands), this charming stone cottage is every bit the traditional, English home you’d expect. However, the interiors are beautifully modern, tasteful and creative. We love the juxtaposition of rustic elements like the wood-burning stove and antique sideboard, with industrial-style lampshades and vibrant art prints on the walls. The skylights on the sloped ceilings bring in that seaside sunshine, but equally make a great spot for stargazing. The private patio is another great location for staring at the Milky Way – of course not before a fresh grill on the barbecue, followed by a few alfresco gin and tonics. But if you'd rather venture out, there's a dog-friendly pub just over the road, while the centre of Seahouses with its array of shops, pubs and restaurants is just a five-minute walk from your front door.

This stone-built cottage is just over 300 metres from the seafront in the town of Seahouses. There are bars under 200 metres away too, or you can play some golf or go horse riding nearby. Beadnell Bay, only a few miles north, is great for sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving too. This home has sea views from the doorstep and access to a small patio area which is part of a communal courtyard shared with other neighbours. Inside, there’s a wood burner for cosy nights in, but at full capacity, there’s only one bathroom for five guests. 

The Homely Hideaway

With an idyllic setting with a balcony overlooking the sea – this holiday cottage is a great find – we love the stunning sea vistas. The kitchen/dining room has a door to a west-facing balcony too, great for sunsets. It is just a minute's walk from Seahouses' commercial hub with all of its shops, restaurants and bars. Or from the harbour, you can get a boat to the beautiful Farne Islands or make use of the Ocean Leisure Club (membership is included while staying at this home, but a small entrance fee applies).

This modern first-floor apartment grants you stunning views of the sea without stepping a single foot out the door. Whether you're enjoying your morning cup of tea on the cushy sofa or watching the dramatic sunsets over the Farne Islands on the private balcony, here, the striking Northumberland coastline is your backdrop and the rolling waves are your soundtrack. Alongside the picturesque scenery, this apartment is stylish and cosy. Both bedrooms have a subtle seaside theme – especially the main, with its boat and palm-printed wallpaper – and the sunny kitchen is well-stocked with everything you'll need to rustle up a homecooked feast. Ideal for seaside romance, this cosy cottage is half a mile from Seahouses Beach and harbourside eateries. While the garden is slightly overlooked by the adjacent homes, we think it's a small price to pay for the south-facing lawn which is a suntrap. Entertainment awaits in the shape of books and games, though there's plenty to do outdoors, including watersports and golfing. Or how about sightseeing? Hop in the car and go three miles to Bamburgh Castle or five miles to Holy Island and Lindisfarne.

Beadnell Bay's long stretch of sand is perfect for bucket-and-spade holidays, while the locale also boasts many coastal walks with stunning views of cliff-top ruins, including Dunstanburgh Castle.

Bamburgh’s location on the Northumberland Coast makes it splendid for a trip out on the water, just as much as fish and chips on the shore.
