This Grade II listed home happens to be one of the oldest buildings in Charlbury. And while some parts may date back to the 1400s, the rest has been thoughtfully curated to inspire optimum comfort and relaxation. Set across three floors, the rooms are cosy and well-suited to families. It’s worth noting there are low ceilings on the top floor, but you will find an abundance of charm and a luxurious roll-top bath. There is also a walled courtyard with a charcoal barbecue, and your host can arrange sweet extras like hampers and food boxes. From here, it’s just a short stroll to the nearest shops and pubs, while hiking trails can be found within easy reach.

Tucked down a quiet lane in the charming town of Charlbury, this honey-coloured bolthole is the perfect size for two. Comfort is at the forefront here, there’s a wood-burning stove that keeps both the lounge and kitchen-diner toasty, underfloor heating to warm toes after long rambles through the countryside and a super king size bed to fall into when you’re all worn out. Outside, a courtyard festooned with wildflowers is the perfect spot for lunches of Double Gloucester cheese and hunks of sourdough bread, picked up from the Farmers’ Market held every second Saturday. Pull on your walking boots and follow the Finstock and Evenlode Walk, a picturesque five-mile loop that starts in the centre of town and passes the Cornbury Park Estate. And when all of that rambling becomes thirsty work, the Bull Inn pub is less than five minutes from your doorstep – stick around for the Sunday roast and chocolate fondant tart.

Are you looking for the perfect Cotswold bolthole? This home in Charlbury could be it. Let us give you a tour. First of all, the pretty courtyard garden is ideal for an alfresco meal or evening drink. Inside, there’s a cosy, warm and inviting living room with ochre yellow walls. Gather around the log burner effect fire when the weather turns chilly and read one of the classic books or play a game with the pack of cards here. 

Upstairs, we love the views from the master bedroom over the charming street with its higgledy-piggledy Cotswold stone houses. This home is just the ticket for a couple looking for a romantic countryside break or a family with a child.

Situated in the gorgeous Evenlode Valley, Charlbury is surrounded by beautiful Cotswold countryside. There are so many lovely walks to enjoy, including one along the River Evenlode to Ditchley Park. Hikers can also take advantage of the Oxfordshire Way, which passes through the town. For everyday needs, there’s a convenience store 300 metres away. A farmer’s market is also held quarterly on the 2nd Saturday in March, June, September, and December. 

Or pop to the local deli, just a one-minute walk from this home. It’s the same distance to the pub, a 16th-century coaching inn if you fancy a hearty meal or just a drink. Other attractions in the area include Blenheim Palace, which is 11 kilometres from this adorable cottage.





A Charming Countryside Home

Looking at this townhouse's handsome Costwold stone facade and large sash windows, it's plain to see that the building has been around for a fair while. Indeed, it's probably no surprise to hear that the address dates back to the 17th century and is Grade-II listed.

By comparison, the interior is a lot more contemporarily styled, give or take a few patches of the original stonework and wooden ceiling beams. Wander about the three storeys and you'll find a large handcrafted shaker kitchen, a cosy living room arranged around a wood-burner and a chic collection of bedrooms and bathrooms. Those fond of a long soak will be particularly happy to note that there are four bathtubs into which to sink back after a day in the great outdoors.

The outside space is rather impressive, too. Out through the bi-fold doors, there are a wealth of spaces in which to enjoy bursts of warm weather, whether that's sunbathing on the lawn, dining at the far end of the garden or clinking glasses in the lounge area on one of the tiered terraces.

In the local town of Charlbury, you'll find a couple of pubs and restaurants to keep appetites satisfied, while there are plenty of walking and cycling routes that start nearby that show off the splendour of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The city of Oxford is only forty minutes away by car as well in case you fancy a complete change of scenery.

When you think of a cottage in the Cotswolds, you’re likely imagining this very home. It was recently refurbished, so the cottage has retained its original wood beams and stone walls, but is now a picture of comfort and cosiness. 

You’ll wake up in the morning feeling refreshed after a great night’s sleep – your host knows how important these things are so has equipped the bedrooms with room-darkening shades and oh-so-comfortable bedding. Family breakfasts can be enjoyed around the long dining table while you decide how to spend your day. 

You might like to spend your mornings exploring further afield. The pretty villages of the Cotswolds are dotted all around, so you don’t have to drive far to find a picturesque scene. Blenheim Palace is a thirteen-minute drive, and you can hop on a train to Oxford and be there in twenty-nine minutes. 

The cottage is in the market town of Charlbury, which boasts three pubs and a great park. There’s a library with a great children’s section and a charming cafe, so your rainy days are sorted. This is a wonderfully family-friendly home – the host has even created a dressing-up box for little ones. 

When the sun shines you can sit out on the patio while the kids play on the lawn. When it turns chillier you might move inside to curl up around the wood-burning stove. Play board games, sip wine, and relax. This is what holidays are all about.

We love the peaceful garden here – perfect for children and dogs – which boasts a small summer house so you can enjoy the greenery whatever the weather. Inside, the double-height living room has a log burner for cosy nights in and some of the bedrooms can be set up as doubles or twins to suit your group. Location-wise, you’re a seven-mile drive from the market towns of Witney and Chipping Norton, and you’ll find a choice of local pubs in town – ideal for a well-deserved pint after a walk in the countryside. Your host Nick has worked very hard to ensure this home is as eco as possible including solar panels, triple glazed windows, underfloor heating, a clover lawn which sequesters carbon and even sustainable toiletries. A beautiful home thats also kind to nature - the perfect stay for the environmentally conscious.
