Even before you enter, it’s clear that there’s something special about Faerie World. The high position of the cottage gives a heavenly view of the stream below, and you can hear the babbling water from the terrace, which is itself surrounded by flowers, and makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale. Once inside, the living room and bedroom don’t disappoint. The bedroom in particular, with its Farrow & Ball colours, stands out. The kitchen doesn’t have the same aesthetic charm, but that’s a small gripe, and shouldn't give you any cause for concern.

Descend the bespoke Italian staircase and you’ll find yourself in the sleek kitchen where your hosts have provided a continental breakfast. Enjoy your pastries and cereal in the glass-framed dining room or outside in the private garden while you catch some rays. When it comes to relaxation, your hosts have gone above and beyond by dressing the luxury beds in Egyptian cotton sheets (there’s even a pillow selection between soft or medium-firm) and they’re more than happy to arrange a spa day for you at the nearby five-star hotel. Set into a lush hillside in Bath with a stunning garden and lavish outdoor decks, we can begin to see how this location received a 5 star gold by the Tourist Board. The living spaces are exemplary- we loved the high spec, fully stocked kitchen, the endless entertainment options that include both books and Netflix, and all the rooms opening up to lush green expanses. At a fifteen minute walk from the Widcombe Parade, you have access to restaurants for varying palates, pubs, cafes and other amenities. While the historic sites, museums and shopping in Bath will keep you rather busy in the day, you can end your day with a therapeutic session at the Thermae Spa or a show at The Theatre Royal.

The traditional, elegant interiors with their palms and silk flowers have a lived-in feel, paired with characterful features like a large wood-burning fireplace, a stained glass window, mood lighting throughout and a carved stone basin in one of the three bathrooms. It's just a ten-minute stroll from Bath centre so the location is excellent too, though make sure you have comfy shoes on, as the walk back home is uphill.

It’s a stylish home-from-home, with neon signs, a turntable and vinyl, and a cocktail-making station. The living space and main bedroom both lead to a balcony, where you can unwind after a day of sightseeing in the city centre – it’s only a ten-minute walk away.

We loved the way High & Dry blends historic charm and modern comfort. Features like the exposed stone fireplace preserve the history of the home, while the well-thought-out decor brings it up to date. Each room has a slightly different colour scheme and a slightly different atmosphere. Being tucked away on a side street, it’s a quiet, tranquil spot, but it’s still central – so you can still easily explore Bath on foot. The generous kitchen and dining area and the various communal spaces make it a great fit for families. 


High & Dry

This meticulously furnished, bright flat in the heart of Bath is a treat for anyone who doesn't want to compromise on quality just to get a more central location. We fell in love with the open-plan living area, which features a gorgeous dining bar in the midst of gentle pastel hues and tastefully distressed dressers and end tables. Upon testing the sofas we found that they are wonderfully comfortable. The bedroom is no less impressive — it's quiet and bright, just like the rest of the flat. Overlooking Queen’s Park, you'll find many independent cafes, shops, and restaurants on your doorstep, and both Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths are within a five-minute walk.

This modern country escape on the outskirts of Bath is built on an old horse stable site, overlooking the gorgeous Somerset countryside – if that doesn't scream out sweet rural whisperings, then we don't know what will. It would make a great stay for a family or large group of friends eager to explore the UNESCO World Heritage centre of Bath – a twenty-minute drive away – as well as Bristol (20 miles), Stroud and the countryside around Charlcombe, where you can walk in the footsteps of Jane Austen herself – under half a mile from your estate. Return home after a blissful day spent sightseeing, walking and basking in the sunshine. Stepping in to look around the decor, you'll notice a uniquely designed home with five bedrooms, a slick marble-topped island kitchen and an open-plan living quarter with huge sofas and views over the fields beyond – courtesy of the stylish floor-to-ceiling and black framed windows. Outside, you'll find a private patio, complete with garden furniture – we can think of no better way to start the day, than with a sunny breakfast sat out here. Gaze into the rolling green fields as you work from home at the dedicated office space. Come evening, sit down for a slow feast with the entire group in the chic dining area. No effort nor expense has been spared in creating this retreat that feels fresh and contemporary, while still holding onto its idyllic country roots.

When it comes to experiencing the best of Bath’s sights, this apartment is hard to beat. Sitting right in the heart of the city centre, you’ve got Bath Abbey and the famous Roman Baths on your doorstep, both just a minute away. While the home has double-glazing to keep the noise at bay, sensitive sleepers may wish to pack earplugs nonetheless with the abbey’s bells nearby. Contemporary decor and metro-tiled baths are nice touches here, and though the kitchen is on the small side, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants, bars and shops all around you.

Elegantly dressed with great attention to detail, dinner parties can be held in the dining room, with after-dinner drinks in the sitting room or have a quiet night tucked away in the study. There are two kitchen areas to cook in, and even a small outdoor patio with benches to take some fresh air. 

In such a central spot, it's no surprise that all of Bath's main attractions, including the Roman Baths and Thermae Bath Spa, are within a ten-minute walk. There are all sorts of bars and restaurants on your doorstep too. This home is the perfect place for a special celebration – you'll think you've stepped into the pages of a classic novel.



Captain Wentworth

Hidden away in the countryside surrounding the city of Bath, this home can't be accused of not making the most of this bucolic location. In the main communal space, there are floor-to-ceiling windows running around the walls, which look out to views of Solsbury Hill and rolling fields. There's also a balcony accessed from this space, so you can enjoy the peaceful panorama with a breeze on your face. Back inside, the kitchen is large enough to allow for several guests to be involved in cooking up a storm at once and the electric blinds can create the perfect setting for a post-dinner movie. Outside, you'll find a grassy garden for kids to run around, although the Cotswolds AONB lies to the north if you're after a bit more space to bound around in. Bath and its myriad historic attractions only takes twelve minutes to reach in the car, too.

Time Stood Still

Classy. That's the word that springs to mind when we think of this recently refurbished apartment on Milsom Street in Bath. As soon as you walk through the elegant gated entrance with carved granite and mosaic tiling, you know you're in for a treat. The home is immaculately clean, polished and designed to a high standard. A raft of celebrity portraits taken by the owner lines the walls – a wonderful personal touch. Select a bottle from the wine cooler and relax in the spacious living room, which has a sense of occasion with its Charles Eames leather lounge chair and velvet sofa. This light, west-facing room has two large original sash windows with views over the courtyard and chimney pots. We were surprised by how peaceful this place is inside, considering it's located on one of Bath's main shopping streets. It really is an excellent base for exploring the city's centre and sights. There are lots of luxury and high-end boutiques, as well as restaurants and bars right on your doorstep, where you can enjoy a cocktail or relish a delicious lunch (The Botanist and Ivy Brasserie are opposite). For a day of pampering, Thermae Bath Spa is a five-minute walk, or explore Bath's jaw-dropping UNESCO World Heritage architecture, such as the Royal Crescent, a ten-minute stroll away. A great find – it's no wonder this home has impeccable reviews. 

Georgian View

Attractive and comfortable, this apartment is on the first floor of a Georgian building in the heart of Bath. It’s situated just behind the Assembly Rooms, close to the Royal Crescent and the Roman Baths – there’s no need for a car here. This home is a great base for a luxurious city break, with its chandelier and velvet furniture. You’ll have everything you need here, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and independent shops nearby if you don't fancy cooking in the chic kitchen.

The Assembly

Avon Stream juxtaposes the old and the new oh so perfectly. From a Georgian façade and original fireplaces to modern furnishings and contemporary finishes – the home offers a contrast with elegance and style throughout. A lot of care has also been put into the quality of the furniture – we deem the mattresses to be a particular highlight. We also. love that the entire basement floor of this home is underfloor heated – blissful in the winter months when you can kick off your shoes and just unwind. Add into the mix, gig sash windows, high ceilings, and the central (yet surprisingly peaceful) location – and you've got yourself a pristine base from which to explore the picturesque city of Bath. Stroll just seven minutes to visit the historic Roman baths and explore the high street boutiques, cafes and restaurants that surround it. A classic Aga Stove provides warmth in the kitchen, and a picture-frame window shows off the rolling hills. There's plenty of prep space for cooking, so pour yourself a glass of wine, put a vinyl on the record player and let your culinary skills run wild. Outside, the sunny terrace and manicured garden are perfect for unwinding on sunnier days. Historic, vibrant Bath is a ten-minute drive away, so you're not far from restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, but if you want to feel the oasis of a real countryside escape, rural walks and cycles through green fields, bluebell forests and single track cowslip strewn country have you covered.

You’ll feel like royalty when you stay in this plush one-bed, and that’s not just thanks to the regal setting, on the Circus (formerly King’s Circus) – one of the city’s most famous Georgian terraces. Or the grandeur of the decor, all immaculate plush carpets, high ceilings and original fireplaces. It’s also the fact that the hosts treat their guests like kings. Welcome packs include wine, biscuits and chocolate; check in and bag storage are flexible; chefs, massages, dry cleaning and babysitters can all be arranged; they even created their own online app to guide guests to local food and drink options. Luckily for those who don’t want to cook (although there is a kitchen), there are dozens of the latter nearby. We recommend taking time to make the most of the West Country dining scene, as well as checking out museums, the nearby Theatre Royal, and the famous spa. After all that, you can return to take a rainfall shower, loll by the fire, and snooze in the comfy sleigh bed. No wonder the tourist board awarded this place a gold star. We'd give it one too.
