Even before you enter, it’s clear that there’s something special about Faerie World. The high position of the cottage gives a heavenly view of the stream below, and you can hear the babbling water from the terrace, which is itself surrounded by flowers, and makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale. Once inside, the living room and bedroom don’t disappoint. The bedroom in particular, with its Farrow & Ball colours, stands out. The kitchen doesn’t have the same aesthetic charm, but that’s a small gripe, and shouldn't give you any cause for concern.

We loved the way High & Dry blends historic charm and modern comfort. Features like the exposed stone fireplace preserve the history of the home, while the well-thought-out decor brings it up to date. Each room has a slightly different colour scheme and a slightly different atmosphere. Being tucked away on a side street, it’s a quiet, tranquil spot, but it’s still central – so you can still easily explore Bath on foot. The generous kitchen and dining area and the various communal spaces make it a great fit for families.

While the historic sites, museums and shopping in Bath will keep you rather busy in the day, you can end your day with a therapeutic session at the Thermae Spa or a show at The Theatre Royal.

This beautiful period home is right in the heart of historic Bath – in fact, Jane Austen lived in the terrace opposite from 1804-1805. You can definitely sense that period grandeur inside, with impressively high ceilings, marble fireplaces and gorgeous sash windows looking straight out onto Green Park. Each room feels light-filled and cosy – curl up on the plush sofa with a good book on rainy days (we recommend anything by Jane Austen to really set the mood), settle down for a light meal at the table and watch the world go by from the window, or nod off after a busy day in the sumptuous bedroom. And there's plenty to do right on your doorstep, with shops, restaurants, markets, museums and the Theatre Royal all within walking distance. Green Park Station around the corner hosts a Saturday morning farmers' market which is well worth a visit, and the must-see Roman Baths are just a quick seven-minute stroll away. And while a car is not a necessity, your host offers a free parking permit with your stay, meaning you can explore further afield with ease.

One of the things that we like most about The Austen is the way that it has retained its sense of history. The building is over 250 years old, and the hosts have managed to keep many of the original features, including the wood panelling, fireplaces, and Georgian shutters. The home is also in the very centre of Bath. As in, less than five minutes on foot to the Roman baths themselves (and the same distance to the station, which while less glamorous, is also worth knowing). Even if it weren’t kept so well, it would be a good base for exploring the city, but as it is, staying here is simply a delight.

The apartment is chic and comfortable, equipped with everything you might need for a city break. There’s even a delightful patio garden where you can soak up the sun and unwind after busy days of sightseeing.

Sitting right in the heart of the city centre, you’ve got Bath Abbey and the famous Roman Baths on your doorstep, both just a minute away. While the home has double-glazing to keep the noise at bay, sensitive sleepers may wish to pack earplugs nonetheless with the abbey’s bells nearby. Contemporary decor and metro-tiled baths are nice touches here, and though the kitchen is on the small side, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to restaurants, bars and shops all around you.

You’ll feel like royalty when you stay in this plush one-bed, and that’s not just thanks to the regal setting, on the Circus (formerly King’s Circus) – one of the city’s most famous Georgian terraces. Or the grandeur of the decor, all immaculate plush carpets, high ceilings and original fireplaces. It’s also the fact that the hosts treat their guests like kings. Welcome packs include wine, biscuits and chocolate; check in and bag storage are flexible; chefs, massages, dry cleaning and babysitters can all be arranged; they even created their own online app to guide guests to local food and drink options. Luckily for those who don’t want to cook (although there is a kitchen), there are dozens of the latter nearby. We recommend taking time to make the most of the West Country dining scene, as well as checking out museums, the nearby Theatre Royal, and the famous spa. After all that, you can return to take a rainfall shower, loll by the fire, and snooze in the comfy sleigh bed. No wonder the tourist board awarded this place a gold star. We'd give it one too.

This charming maisonette sits amid a quaint row of terraced stone buildings in the heart of Bath. It’s between the Royal Crescent and The Circus, only a ten-minute walk to Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths, and the Pump Room. You can look forward to period features in this delightful home, which boasts a tranquil garden room with its original fireplace. There’s also a courtyard garden with a table and chairs, perfect for an alfresco lunch in the sunshine. 

The Georgian Maisonette

Hidden away in the countryside surrounding the city of Bath, this home can't be accused of not making the most of this bucolic location. In the main communal space, there are floor-to-ceiling windows running around the walls, which look out to views of Solsbury Hill and rolling fields. There's also a balcony accessed from this space, so you can enjoy the peaceful panorama with a breeze on your face. Back inside, the kitchen is large enough to allow for several guests to be involved in cooking up a storm at once and the electric blinds can create the perfect setting for a post-dinner movie. Outside, you'll find a grassy garden for kids to run around, although the Cotswolds AONB lies to the north if you're after a bit more space to bound around in. Bath and its myriad historic attractions only takes twelve minutes to reach in the car, too.

It’s located in Bath’s Artisan Quarter, home to quirky independent shops and cafes, and is just a ten-minute walk from the centre of Bath. When you’re not out seeing the sights, you’ll be happy to have such a comfortable place to call home. We love the pretty pastel-pink kitchen, and the first-floor balcony. Children will love the games room, which is equipped with a foosball table, board games, and a Peloton bike. There’s also a desk for those working remotely while in Bath – this home has everything you might need. 


The Queen's Quarters

Classy. That's the word that springs to mind when we think of this recently refurbished apartment on Milsom Street in Bath. As soon as you walk through the elegant gated entrance with carved granite and mosaic tiling, you know you're in for a treat. The home is immaculately clean, polished and designed to a high standard. A raft of celebrity portraits taken by the owner lines the walls – a wonderful personal touch. Select a bottle from the wine cooler and relax in the spacious living room, which has a sense of occasion with its Charles Eames leather lounge chair and velvet sofa. This light, west-facing room has two large original sash windows with views over the courtyard and chimney pots. We were surprised by how peaceful this place is inside, considering it's located on one of Bath's main shopping streets. It really is an excellent base for exploring the city's centre and sights. There are lots of luxury and high-end boutiques, as well as restaurants and bars right on your doorstep, where you can enjoy a cocktail or relish a delicious lunch (The Botanist and Ivy Brasserie are opposite). For a day of pampering, Thermae Bath Spa is a five-minute walk, or explore Bath's jaw-dropping UNESCO World Heritage architecture, such as the Royal Crescent, a ten-minute stroll away. A great find – it's no wonder this home has impeccable reviews. 

Georgian View

This meticulously furnished, bright flat in the heart of Bath is a treat for anyone who doesn't want to compromise on quality just to get a more central location. We fell in love with the open-plan living area, which features a gorgeous dining bar in the midst of gentle pastel hues and tastefully distressed dressers and end tables. Upon testing the sofas we found that they are wonderfully comfortable. The bedroom is no less impressive — it's quiet and bright, just like the rest of the flat. Overlooking Queen’s Park, you'll find many independent cafes, shops, and restaurants on your doorstep, and both Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths are within a five-minute walk. 

Baldwin's View

Two minutes from the station and with the centre of Bath right on your doorstep, this home's location is perfect for a small family or group of friends planning a city break and arriving by train. With such a central postcode, you can explore the sights on foot, discover great restaurants or go shopping in peace, knowing that you can pop back home whenever you need to. The apartment's high ceilings, tall windows and stunning chandelier deliver old-world sophistication and while we love the period charm, we appreciate that this home's been modernised where it matters. A sleek kitchen is ideal to rustle up simple meals at home, while the walk-in showers are a pleasure to use. Look no further if it's a practical base in Bath that you're after.

Attractive and comfortable, this apartment is on the first floor of a Georgian building in the heart of Bath. It’s situated just behind the Assembly Rooms, close to the Royal Crescent and the Roman Baths – there’s no need for a car here. This home is a great base for a luxurious city break, with its chandelier and velvet furniture. You’ll have everything you need here, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, and independent shops nearby if you don't fancy cooking in the chic kitchen.

Welcoming up to nine guests comfortably, it's a great option for a group of friends looking to get together or an extended family gathering.

You’ll be a stone’s throw away from all the city’s main attractions, including the Roman Baths, the spas, Bath Abbey and the Jane Austen museum.
