Set in the rolling Somerset countryside outside Ilminster (a three-minute drive), this home epitomises the phrase “sitting pretty”. A honey-hued facade is covered with roses, like a storybook cottage. Though grand bedrooms with sleigh beds and lots of space are more manor house than country cottage. Downstairs, the cosy sitting room is set around a wood-burning in the old hearth and there’s a second family snug with bean bags and a squashy sofa, ideal for film nights. The kitchen is a vision of modernity with its big breakfast island to accommodate the bustle of family mealtimes and dining takes place in the conservatory area overlooking the sprawling grounds. Stepping outside you’ll find a sweeping, manicured lawn and wooden climbing frame for the kids to run free, and patio dining for the whole group courtesy of a charcoal barbecue should the weather allow. Our favourite part? The wood-fired hot tub hidden between the trees and looking out over the fields and woodland.

Sitting in the sprawling grounds of a family-owned manor house, this cute cottage is the Somerset countryside idyll. Wisteria creeps up the beautiful hamstone facade and the Grade II listed features have been carefully retained. Stepping inside the cottage, it’s surprisingly modern with a long, Scandi-chic dining table for ten at the centre of the open living space (there's dining for sixteen in the conservatory). Comfy blue sofas sit in front of the old hearth, now home to a wood-burning stove, and the kitchen is blissfully modern yet retains a country-style charm. Tuck yourself away in the family snug, set around the big TV for a movie night. Or, head outside and make the most of the fabulous grounds. The cottage itself has a private space with a wood-fired hot tub overlooking the fields and a big outdoor dining table for sunny evening barbecues. The surrounding landscape provides miles of stunning countryside to explore either by foot or bike, and local produce and wholesome meals can be found in pubs and grocery stores in the nearby town.

This Grade II-listed cottage showcases Somerset's idyllic vernacular architecture. Its traditional touches, like the thatched roof and exposed beams, are complemented by the undeniably wholesome interior design – the wood-burner in the living room’s old hearth, dressers made from reclaimed wood, and timber beams on show in the country-chic kitchen. Right outside the kitchen, you’ll find outdoor dining for balmy summer evenings. The rustic theme doesn’t mean this place lacks grandeur. The master bathroom, in particular, is a lavish affair with its huge, walk-in shower and silver free-standing tub overlooking the garden. Or, opt for a soak in the wood-fired hot tub outside. The cottage is set on a private estate giving it a feel of tranquil privacy, and the surrounding countryside is ideal for long walks and scenic bike rides. The Jurrasic coast is a forty-minute drive south where you can find stunning coastal paths and beautiful beaches.

In the heart of a quaint little village in Somerset, this 16th century thatched cottage seamlessly blends rustic charm with modern comforts and restored interiors. Stone floors, whitewashed walls and thick oak doors house the open plan living area, complete with a high-spec kitchen with an electric Aga, a cosy sitting room where you can curl up on the armchair with a book off the shelf, and a wooden dining table with ornate chairs. The back door leads out into a picture-perfect courtyard, enclosed by stone walls. The air is scented by the lavender bush and the climbing roses, and on sunny days, gather at the outdoor table for a languid lunch. 

The cottage is a short walk from two lovely country pubs serving locally sourced food and Somerset cider. After a hearty lunch, head down one of the many public footpaths nearby, taking you through rolling green meadows and pastures. There is a village shop where you can buy provisions for dinner, or head two miles into the town of Ilminster, where you’ll find a variety of local shops and a supermarket. After a day of exploring, the sanctuary of the cosy bedrooms will call, with their serene green walls palette and wooden floors. You’ll easily fall into the swing of peaceful village life here, and leave feeling rested and rejuvenated.

Set on a quiet country lane, this 17th century, Grade II-listed farmhouse makes a wonderful holiday retreat in the heart of rural Somerset. Traditional features of the home have been partnered with luxurious interior furnishings, that maintain a high quality and provide excellent comfort for a snug stay in the countryside. We particularly love the stained glass window in the living room which serves as the gateway from the rustic lounge area, out to the stunning garden at the back. Original stone floorings, low ceilings and exposed wooden beams add oodles of character and personality to the home, while the wood-fired hot tub and living room stove bring the family together and provide a warming atmosphere. The house is surrounded by farmland but the nearby town provides local produce and delicious meals out. The landscape is sublime for country walks and adventures out to discover the local historical sights. If cycling is your thing, there's no better way to explore the myriad of local country lanes and villages than by bicycle. Stop off at Dennis China Works (a fifteen-minute ride away) for a pit stop in the tea rooms or why not visit one of the local cider producers' orchards and presses to see how it's made? Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake, for example, is only fifteen minutes away by bicycle or a six-minute drive away in the car.

Deep in the Somerset countryside, this cottage feels like a magical hideaway. Located in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, this Grade II listed farmhouse stands out with its thatched roof, beautiful stonework, and trailing foliage on its exterior walls. Although ancient, it has been beautifully and elegantly refurbished in a relaxed, country style – and what could be more welcoming than a wood-burning stove? The large fireplace, exposed masonry, flagstone floors, and timber beams are some of our favourite features, but your host goes the extra mile to make it even more special. With fluffy bathrobes and a seriously high thread count on the bedding, you can’t help but notice luxury all around. You can even have a private chef come over and cook your dinner. If you don’t fancy a Sunday roast, light up the barbecue in the lush back garden on a sunny day. The quiet country lanes lead two miles to the nearby town of Ilminster where you can stock up on fresh, local produce and immerse yourself in rural culture. And as part of rural culture, you’ll have to take a trip to the pub to sample some fine English ales.

An old hearth, flagstone floors and cast-iron roll-top baths; this is the farmhouse idyll in the heart of Somerset. The honey-brown stone farmhouse and cottage is surrounded by a sprawling woodland estate on all sides, and is two miles from Ilminster where you’ll find plenty of cosy pubs, restaurants, shops and cafés. There’s a restaurant on the estate itself if you don’t feel like getting in the car. Though the farmhouse kitchen is a delight to cook in and there’s a long dining table to serve the whole group. Or, opt for a barbecue outside in the summer months and keep an eye on the kids running free on the lawn and ducking between trees. At the end of the day, it’s a choice between cuddling up by the wood-burner in the snug lounge or heading out to the wood-fired hot tub for an evening under the stars. There are plenty of books and board games to keep the group happy too. If you’re lucky enough to bag the master bedroom there’s a claw-footed tub and your own wood-burner waiting for you at bedtime.

Explore the local area:
• You'll come across three pubs within walking distance and a network of public footpaths through the fields for your dog. 
• A short twenty-five-minute walk will see you arrive at the Somerset Cider Brandy orchards, where you can tour the mill and shop, hike up the famous Burrow Hill and enjoy a tipple from the infamous Glastonbury Cider Bus, serving every weekend throughout the summer. 
• Wander in the other direction and you'll soon discover Flying Pig Cider and their open-air orchard cafe. 
• Within a twenty-minute drive are the picture-perfect villages of Ilminster, South Petherton and Langport – dotted with coffee shops and independent boutiques.

Location-wise, there’s lots to see and do nearby. Ilminster is just a short walk away and offers a variety of shops, pubs, and cafes, while the stunning Jurassic coast and the Quantock Hills are within easy reach.

Set on the banks of the River Isle, this mill in deepest Somerset was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Close to a thousand years later, part of it still stands and is ideal for holidaymakers looking for a unique rural escape. The internal shell of the building has been kept much the same as it would have looked in the fifteenth century and you certainly get a sense of that with the wooden staircases, exposed stonework and a preserved waterwheel in the attic bedroom. Thankfully, plenty of modern amenities have been added, including a log-burning fire, a country kitchen and a vintage roll-top bathtub that's a relative whippersnapper in comparison to the house itself. In the surrounding grounds, guests can wander about the working farm to meet the animals that also call it home, followed by kayaking and swimming in the river or a bike ride along the adjoining National Cycle Route 33. This being Somerset, there's plenty of countryside walks nearby, as well as cider mills for when you've worked up a thirst.

Feeling as cosy as it looks, this well-preserved thatched cottage is neatly tucked into the charming village of Combe St Nicholas, right on the edge of the Blackdown Hills. It’s a great base from which to explore the wider area too – Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast are half an hour away, while Exmoor is less than an hour in the car. With its wood-beamed ceilings, traditional open-hearth fireplace, and crooked walls, Enchanted Moments takes you back in time when things moved a little slower for a truly relaxing experience. Pack a few great books for late nights in the cosy living room and comfortable walking shoes in order to explore the natural beauty of the rolling countryside. It's the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Enjoy the complimentary bread, biscuits, cake, and lovely local produce and have an afternoon tea on your arrival. The cottage benefits from having an open-plan kitchen-diner that's ideal for aspiring Robuchons to entertain their loved ones with lavish meals. The cosy living room with a wood-burning stove is perfect for part of the group to retire to after dinner, while the other half can head outside for a stargazing session from the hot tub. The delightful garden makes a great setting for a picnic on warmer days (catering is available) or just walk to the pub (thirty minutes) for a hearty Sunday roast. Of course, there are some wonderful walks and cycle rides to discover right from your doorstep and bikes can be rented and delivered to the cottage in advance. For a range of boutiques, restaurants and cafes –  head to Ilminster, a three-minute drive or explore Dillington Park, a seven-minute walk away. If you fancy exploring further afield – Charmouth Beach is just over a thirty-minute drive – that's if you can tear yourself away from this rural paradise.

This rural spot is a great choice for larger groups looking for a cosy bolthole – return from a day spent strolling through the myriad of local country lanes and footpaths, and be welcomed in by the crackling inglenook fireplace and cosy living room. There are all sorts of thoughtful touches that your hosts have added, including a welcome hamper with some essentials, cakes, and local produce. So settle in for the night, whether you're sipping alfresco wine on the patio in the warmer months or knocking up a hearty meal in the country-house styled kitchen-come-dining room. Although, with a few great pubs within walking distance, we reckon you'll be eating out most nights. Come morning, active types or those simply feeling adventurous can take a thirty-minute drive to the sublime Jurassic Coast for a memorable day trip. Elsewhere, Barrington House – a National Trust house with gardens open to the public – is a twenty-minute drive from home, and well worth a visit, even if just for the charming tea room. When – weary from walking and full of scones – you do eventually return home, toast up those frozen toes by the wood-burning stove or get into the steamy hot tub for a stargazing session. There are four bedrooms – each with its own en-suite – so everyone has a private and comfortable space to retire to. And if you're planning an escape for up to fourteen guests, the adjacent cottage, Treacle Sponge, is also available to book and is connected by a corridor.

Food is important to your chef host, so despite the compact size of the kitchen it contains everything you could need. We'd definitely recommend sampling charcuterie made from his rare breed pigs and you'll be supplied with farm fresh eggs on arrival. The terrace is a particular highlight – and the perfect spot to unwind after country walks. Alternatively, enjoy a beach walk along the Jurassic Coast, a short drive away.

Peak cottage appeal awaits at this thatched home set within the rolling Devon countryside. After spending your time gazing at geological phenomena and prehistoric intrigues of the Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis makes for a wonderful base to return back to the 21st century. This charming town has bustling high streets, independent boutiques, cafés, and a microbrewery where you can sample local English ales. But it’s not a complete escape from nature either – just a minute walk from this quaint cottage, you’ll also find the sandy shores of Lyme Regis beach.

Full of character inside and out, arriving here is exactly the English seaside abode you’d imagine. With cream walls alongside a bright blue front door and matching sash window frames, a nautical theme immediately springs to mind.

Inside this traditional building, the fresh, modern decor makes you feel immediately relaxed. We love the earthy palette of peach, cream, dark brown wooden floors, and a moss-coloured sofa. Wander out for a walk around the pond and past the horses until you find the perfect spot for a rest. Bask in the tranquillity as you get your nose in a Jane Austen novel and pour yourself tea from a thermos. The cottage itself also overlooks the Victorian stable yard, which adds even more grandeur to the view, so don’t be too surprised if you find yourself daydreaming. 

When you’re not out exploring hiking up the Tor at Glastonbury, or driving out towards Devon or Cornwall, you can stay in, curling up on the sofa with a freshly-brewed coffee after polishing off a hearty breakfast at the little dining counter right by the window. With the warmth of the exposed beams and cosy furnishings, this space is perfectly set up for lounging around, but if the weather permits, we recommend a picnic on the grass right outside.
