You'll be treated to views across Westonbirt Arboretum, best enjoyed in the sunny garden or from the cottage's panoramic window seat. Inside, you can curl up with a book in front of the fire, play a game around the dining table, or work remotely from the desk on the landing. There's also a handy utility room here, ideal for wiping off muddy paws and storing wellies after a long trek through the surrounding countryside.

The home's location in the Lower Mill Estate means you'll have access to two shared heated swimming pools, playgrounds, soft play, tennis courts, a 3G multi-use games area, and a spa (we recommend booking treatments in advance). Further afield, nearby Cirencester is dotted with historic pubs and charming country boutiques and is just twenty minutes by car. All the bedrooms have their own en-suites, and while the ceiling is a bit low in one of them, there's plenty to make up for it. Set over three floors, this historic home retains heaps of character, with exposed stone walls and ancient wood beams, alongside contemporary alterations like a sparkling new kitchen and a glass panel staircase. Cosy and smartly furnished, the living room's feature fireplace has a log burner for warming up on winter evenings and leads through to a stylish dining space with log storage built into the wall. Equipped with everything you could need to cook at home, the kitchen is lit by a huge ceiling lantern and a big window. Bedrooms are classic country style and we particularly love the freestanding bathtub in the main bathroom and the pretty bedroom on the top floor. The house shares a rear courtyard with some neighbouring properties but a large, private garden lies across the lane to the front.

A homely lakeside retreat, this two-storey home is an ideal base for a family who wants to be close to endless outdoor activities. What stood out to us was the deck – from breakfast to supper, you'll want to have all your meals alfresco here (weather permitting), overlooking the lake. In colder months, the fireplace and indoor dining table are nice touches, and the bedrooms are small but cosy. You can't grow bored here, either – the home provides access to the spa facilities in the nearby holiday park, along with its pools. There is also a wide selection of other recreational activities available for a fee – from bike rentals to paddle boarding.

Seemingly plucked straight from a fairytale, this secluded, idyllic thatched cottage, originally built in 1624, makes a romantic nesting place for couples looking for a rural escape. Cosy up on the velvet sofas by the wood-burning stove and relish in the home's comforting character. We love the stunning countryside views from the large garden – we can imagine sitting here on warm summer days with a glass of wine in hand. Another favourite of ours is the gorgeous bedroom with its characterful beams, chandelier and free-standing bath, the perfect place for a soak after a long countryside walk. There are several gastro pubs within a ten-minute drive, or if you fancy exploring further afield, Cirencester and Tetbury are under fifteen minutes in the car. Alternatively, marvel at over two thousand different species of trees at the stunning Westonbirt Arboretum, just over a twenty-minute ride.
