Located right by the magnificent York Minster, this 18th-century townhouse enjoys a quiet yet central location. Families and friends alike will settle right in here and pets are welcome to join you, but thanks to its many stairs, low windows and trip hazards, young children will need supervision at all times. There is space to sit out with a drink or an alfresco meal in the small courtyard garden – this is overlooked by surrounding buildings and may not feel fully private. Self-check-in makes arrival easy and convenient, though the nearest parking spot is a short walk away. We think the best way to explore the area is on foot though, so having a car here isn't a necessity.

This apartment in the centre of York is similarly no-nonsense and will ensure guests have a hitchless time in this idyllic part of England. The design is simple but effectively so, with the neutral palette of greys and whites livened up by the occasional burst of burnt orange. There's a fireplace to gather around on those chillier evenings, while the mirrored doors on the bedroom wardrobe will make it easy to get ready ahead of an evening out. Located four minutes' walk from the York City Walls, many of the main attractions are equally easy to reach. The cathedral is less than ten minutes away on foot, while the castle takes fifteen.

The apartment also benefits from access to a lovely L-shaped outdoor courtyard with a hanging chair that's perfect for lazy afternoons reading outdoors in the sunshine. From your central location, even the furthest reaches of York city centre are no more than a fifteen-minute walk away, while the majority is just a five-minute stroll. Be sure to marvel at the magnificent York Minster, stride along The Shambles, and while away an afternoon or two in its many art galleries and museums.

Located on a historic street which was once the medieval route into the city from the north, this apartment is housed in a listed building where you can truly feel immersed in history. Just a three-minute walk from the striking York Minster Cathedral (as well as a fantastic view of it from upstairs), and one hundred metres from York Art Gallery, this home is in a coveted location for history buffs and art fans alike. And the same goes for the interiors. Creative, classy, and full of antique features, the decor is extremely elegant. The bright living room has original sash windows and a marble fireplace. The solid hardwood dining table is illuminated by a gilded chandelier, and the modern kitchen is propped up by an original timber beam. Overall, this charming mix of old and new creates a charming, character-filled home with a luxury edge. With everything so new it's practically sparkling, you'll have a sociable, open-plan living space with a comfy sofa and a smart dining table, along with a high-spec contemporary kitchen area with all the kit you'll need to cook at home. Both bedrooms are stylish and each has a dedicated bathroom so there won't be any need to queue for the shower in the morning. Little luxuries include welcome treats, underfloor heating in the bathrooms and a funky remote control backlight behind the TV – to set the mood for the evening. The location couldn't be better either, with a walk of fewer than ten minutes into the city centre.

If you’re staying in York, seeing the spires of the 13th-century York Minster Cathedral from your window is akin to an Eiffel Tower view in Paris. The largest of its kind in Northern Europe, this magnificent structure is well worth a visit – just a ten-minute walk from this duplex apartment. Despite such historic surroundings, the interiors of this home are tastefully modern. As you enter through the hall, the first thing you’ll notice is a full-wall mural showing you a printed map of the entire city. After you’ve found your bearings, head onwards to the bright lounge. There’s a certain Scandi vibe created by the furnishings and colour scheme – we particularly love the yellow rug, plus matching throws and cushions. The elegant, modern armchairs make for an inviting perch where you can enjoy a proper Yorkshire brew on arrival (you might even find this in the welcome hamper from your host). But on a sunny day, you might want to take your tea out to your private balcony. Open up the French doors from the lounge, where the playful yellow colour scheme continues with a cute metal dining set – anyone for a slice of cake too?

Not only is the apartment beautiful, but it’s also in a fantastic location. Nestled in a residential area but just a short walk from the city centre, you get the best of both worlds. You’ll love exploring the famous Roman walls, the Georgian architecture, and trying to tick off as many of the thirty museums as possible. If you fancy a break from the city, the Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach for long, windy walks in the countryside. However you spend the day, you’ll be glad to come home to your apartment. Kick-off your shoes and snuggle up on the squishy sofa, watching your favourite films – the host provides complimentary Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts, so you'll have plenty of options. Come dinnertime, pad into the country-style kitchen and rustle up a meal – it's stocked with cookware and cutlery to make cooking a breeze. On sunny days, take your fare into the lovely courtyard and dine alfresco. Although it's small, we think the wisteria-covered walls and pretty flowerboxes turn it into a tranquil, whimsical space to unwind with a glass of wine as the day slowly draws to a close.
