Set in a quiet lane that's surprisingly close to the bustling restaurants and bars of London Road and Elm Row, this three-storey townhouse appears more like a cottage from the outside. Honey-coloured stonework and a cobbled street out front make this quaint, mews-like street feel more traditional than what you’ll find inside. 

Its layout is really quite special. At the heart of the home on the first floor, which you’ll ascend via wooden spiral staircase, we love the Scandinavian minimalist look. Then round off the evening with a stroll around the residents' garden. In the morning, savour a hearty bowl of porridge to prepare for a big day ahead. As you’re just a six-minute walk from the edge of Holyrood Park, you’ve got an enormous green space to explore. You can even scale its extinct volcano, Arthur’s Seat, for sweeping views of Edinburgh and beyond.

The Georgian frontage and original features – think marble fireplaces, high ceilings, and hardwood floors – have been tastefully augmented with rich carpets, and antique and handmade furniture. It’s no wonder this place won a Hilden Style Award. You’ll find modern comforts in the sleek, white kitchen, though the solid wood table and crystal whisky decanter add a bit of old-world charm. This light-flooded city pad is a fantastic base for your Edinburgh stay and if you can peel yourself away from the grand Chesterfield sofas, you’re a ten-minute stroll from George Street, twenty from Edinburgh Castle and just over fifteen from the Royal Mile.

This is a genuinely special home, with an abundance of character and sophistication, with everything finished to a high quality. The location was equally impressive, found on a quiet cobbled street just off a main busy road, within walking distance of the city centre. While the striking master bedroom came close, the living room was our favourite room in the home. It feels almost like an old school drawing room, but with an added comfort factor. There's also great attention to detail, such as the drawer of hot water bottles in the kitchen for those rainy Scottish evenings. 

The Gilderoy

Monochrome style meets Edinburgh's history in this city centre apartment, nestled on one of the city's most famous streets; George Street. The flat pays tribute to city icons such as Sean Connery and Calton Hill with a coherent collection of black-and-white prints lining the living area's walls. Original feature fireplaces in the bedroom, a chandelier in the living room, and cornicing like icing on a cake hark back to the days when horse and carriage would clatter along the wide boulevard below. George Street has its own rich history, originally built as "the principal street" of the New Town. The neighbouring townhouses are architectural marvels. High-end boutiques and upscale restaurants have given these buildings a new purpose in the 21st century. With this apartment, the city's truly on your doorstep. Get out and explore. 

Sir Connery's Dome

With the look of a stylish speakeasy, this cute red-hued studio won our hearts. We love the features here, such as the shuttered sash windows, the floral wallpaper and the chic prints and mirrors. Pour a glass of wine and relax on the plush armchairs. Or have a rest on the comfy bed in the bedroom with its navy wood panelling before heading out to explore in the late afternoon.

The location is fantastic. George Street and Princes Street are a one-minute walk, so that's shopping covered. For culture lovers, the Scottish National Gallery and Scottish Gallery of Modern Art are an eight-minute saunter, while the National Portrait Gallery and the Museum on the Mound are both an eleven-minute stroll. The iconic Edinburgh Castle, St Giles' Cathedral, St James Quarter and the Old Town are all a fifteen-minute or less walk from your door as well. There's an array of eateries and bars nearby too, so this place is the ideal bolthole for a couple, solo traveller or business person looking to be in the heart of the city's action.
