A long, private drive leads to this romantic retreat in the rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula. A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. And we love the huge, super stylish bathroom, with its walk-in shower and freestanding tub below a skylight. This home might be a traditional farmhouse from the outside, but the interior is sleek, contemporary, and comfortable. Here, you can shed the daily grind and embrace a slower pace of life, while still keeping ahold of modern comforts. Lovely accents of green brighten up the home, which is cloaked in soothing shades of grey. But that's not to say it isn't without its traditional charm. The original stone fireplace stands in front of centre of the dining room, while the warmth of the wood burner permeates the home. And perhaps most importantly, the country house-style kitchen provides the perfect social space, capturing what people love about country homes – making memories with family and friends.

You'd be hard-pressed to find somewhere as scenic and relaxing as the Llyn Peninsula. Walkers will revel in the famous Llyn Coastal Path, which leads you onto the lovely beaches of Porth Towyn and Porth Ysgaden. The area's Irish Sea stems off into emerald pools, backed by hills carpeted in lush grass and flowers – it's truly enchanting. The area is also teeming with quaint towns and villages, like Tudweiliog – just a twenty-minute stroll away.

The sandy shores of Llanbedrog Beach are just half a mile away, and the charming village of Abersoch is only five minutes away by car. What could be more romantic than a tiny cottage in the country? This pretty little home on the Llyn Peninsula is surprisingly modern thanks to its recent refurbishment. Comfortable and stylish, it's the perfect retreat for couples trying to get away from it all. Set in a secluded rural area, with great walking on your doorstep, it's about as far from the madding crowd as it gets. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby.

If you want something more grand and sweeping than the harbour-side beach, head to Porth Neigwl, a six-minute drive away. The home itself has some serious wow-factor, starting with the hot tub in the garden and plush rattan sofa set on the patio, perfect for evening cocktails or barbecue lunch. Inside, you’ll find the main living room on the top floor, taking advantage of a view over the village out to where the fishing boats bob out at sea. It’s part of an open-plan living area that spreads across the whole top floor, all natural light from walls of glass and sleek eave angles. Bedrooms are all on the ground floor, with the master opening up to the private garden.

There’s something fairytale-esque about this cottage; perhaps it’s the stone walls that call to mind a royal tower, the breathtaking views over the Llyn Peninsula countryside, or the crackling wood burner drawing guests into the heart of the living room. But one thing’s for sure, this home skews far more modern than medieval. Four-poster beds sit across from luxurious spa bathtubs, the conservatory is the site of many a foosball tournament as well as views over the Rhiw mountains, and the infrared sauna is definitely a 21st-century addition. With all of the usual mod-cons, chic decor, and a lovely rural location, this one just about ticks all our boxes. If you can tear yourself away from the home, you’re just ten minutes in the car from the gorgeous beaches and coastal walks of the peninsula.

This cute little cottage makes the most of its location right on the seafront. It’s just steps away from a small sandy bay where the sea laps at the shore of the Llyn Peninsula. You’ll be in the heart of Abersoch village, a charming harbour town where fishing boats bob in the water and beach cafés line the shore. If you like your beaches long and practically deserted, it’s an eight-minute drive to Porth Neigwl. The cottage itself is fishing-village white on the outside and has a handful of balconies and terraces all facing the beautiful sea view. There’s a walled patio with an outdoor fire for chilly evenings and a dining table on the terrace for sunny days. That’s not to mention the glass-fronted balcony that looks out over the boats in the harbour too. Inside, it’s cottage-chic with wooden floors and nautical decor touches – driftwood fireplaces and anchor cushions. The main living area is open plan, on the ground floor, where a living room is set around an electric stove and the big breakfasting table is set for six. Upstairs, a more formal living room opens up onto the top terrace with views out over the harbour below.

Sitting in the middle of the countryside at the far end of the Llyn Peninsula, this stone cottage makes for a wonderful place to visit regardless of the season.

Come during the warmer months and there are plenty of spots to relax out in the open air, whether reading in one of the egg chairs, clinking glasses in the covered bar area or dining out on the terrace – perhaps a meal cooked on the pizza oven or barbecue. Whichever one you choose, you can enjoy sweeping views of North Welsh fields and hillsides.

However, if you're paying a visit during the colder months, it's just as easy to get toasty and warm inside. The wood-burner in the living room is lovely to hunker down next to at the end of the day, while the foosball table should keep you entertained during rainy afternoons. Come dinnertime, the contemporary grey kitchen has a wealth of space for ambitious meals and the vintage-style dining table is sure to add a sense of occasion to whatever you cook up.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there are beaches in almost every direction, including Porth Neigwl only ten minutes' drive away. Plas Yn Rhiw manor house and gardens make for a sedate afternoon out and are only a ten-minute drive away too, while Abersoch takes about double that time to reach.

The glass doors leading onto the patio open the home up to views over the Welsh countryside during daylight hours, and when night falls, the clear skies and remote location makes stargazing effortless. We love how much space there is here – despite having nine bedrooms, it’s structured in a way that ensures no one feels cramped, and everyone can enjoy their own private little luxuries like a spa-style bath in the corner of the bedroom, a steam in the sauna, or a TV to catch up on the morning news with breakfast in bed. And that’s before we even step outside – you could put together a five-a-side team and kick the ball around on the football field, or just sit on the patio to watch the kids have the time of their lives on the play equipment. Despite its remote feel, this home is actually within a ten-minute walk of some charming village pubs and restaurants – perfect for those nights when you don’t feel like cooking.

On the upper floor, sink into one of three comfy leather sofas and admire the Rhiw mountain views or distant vistas of the Llyn Peninsula while you snuggle up in front of the log fire.

If you like your holidays with a side order of seclusion, you're sure to fall for this handsome stone home in North Wales. Not only can it be found at the far end of the naturally isolated Llyn Peninsula, but the property itself lies in the middle of a working farm and is only accessible via a half-mile-long track off the main road.

This peaceful position is only made better by the gorgeous views of rolling fields and the Irish Sea stretching out to the distant horizon, which you can enjoy this coastal vista from one of the two patio areas. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, it's easy to get toasty inside, whether next to the wood-burning fireplace or in the freestanding bathtub.

We also have a lot of kind words for the design. There are plenty of rustic aspects that are typical of cottages of the region, including exposed stonework, flagstone flooring and wooden ceiling beams, but you can spot plenty of contemporary flourishes, too – the sleek kitchen and bathrooms are perhaps the best examples.

When you can no longer resist the call of the seaside, Penllech Beach takes less than ten minutes to reach in the car and is just one of a number of sandy spots to be discovered in the local area. The town of Abersoch is only a twenty-minute drive when you want to treat yourself to a meal out.

It may be a five-minute drive from the beaches of Hells Mouth, but this home is more like heaven. Dating back to the 13th century, this former mill cottage has been beautifully restored to a two bedroom home that feels much lighter and airer on the inside than the old stone exterior would have you believe – charming though it is. The crackle of a wood-burner set into the old stone wall of the living room provides a little country comfort, while the underfloor heating can keep chilly toes warm. Listen to the babbling of the small brook running alongside the home as you laze in the flower-filled cottage garden or get ready for a walk around the quiet, storybook village of Llangian. There's a small village shop just down the road. Or, hop in the car and get exploring the craggy coastlines and serene countryside just moments from your home. The coastal village of Abersoch is a five-minute drive away, where ice cream parlours and surf shops await. When you do eventually return to your cosy cottage, enjoy a glass of chilled wine on the gorgeous patio before getting a restful night's sleep under the vintage-style skylight shutters and rustic sloped ceilings overhead.

This lovely home is ideal for a Welsh getaway with family or friends. It’s a cosy cottage in a converted barn complex, surrounded by sea views and Llyn Peninsula’s countryside scenery. You’ll feel a million miles from the stresses of everyday life – if you want to unwind and focus on making memories, this home is an excellent base. 

The cottage is comfortable and warm, with king-size beds and a splendid open-plan living and dining space. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to start each day with a cooked breakfast – tuck in and get set up for a day of exploring. 

You might drive seven minutes to the beach at Traeth Porthor to paddle and skim stones. Slightly further afield, the Trefor Sea Stacks are forty-eight minutes away by car and well worth a visit. The cottage is less than a mile away from the Wales Coast Path, so you’re never too far from those stunning sea views. 

Pick up fish and chips on your way back to the cottage, and dine alfresco on the patio. From there you can admire the views, and let the kids run wild on the lawn. Later on, curl up in the living room and play games together. Your four-legged friend can stay here too, so nobody has to miss out.

Then voyage along the coastal paths of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or hop on a boat to Bardsey Island (from nearby Porth Meudwy) and spot the local puffins and their seal friends along the way.

Though the style might feel a little dated in parts, we love the space this offers large groups across the three cottages – each with a living area and kitchen. Each unit also has a private patio, but there's plenty of communal space where everyone can come together. The garden also makes for a great escape for taller guests feeling a little contained by the low bedroom ceilings.

Surfing enthusiasts should make a beeline for Hell’s Mouth, a seven-minute drive away – keep an eye out for Bottlenose dolphins as you carve through the waves. When the day draws to a close, head back to your pad for a chilled glass of wine as the sun starts to set and an early night in the cosy bedrooms, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

On a sunny day at this home on the Llŷn Peninsula, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on a little island somewhere much closer to the equator. The garden blooms with tropical plant life – palm trees are dotted everywhere and the air is scented with fig leaf. Down below are the glimmering waters of the sea, and there’s no better place to admire the view than from the outdoor hot tub. 

Step inside and you will see that the house is a homage to Great British design. Make use of the high-spec appliances in the modern farmhouse-style kitchen for whipping home-cooked delights. These can be enjoyed in the dining room, or the spectacular conservatory – the showpiece of the house. With its glass exterior that frames the sea, it’s a breathtaking spot for sunny breakfasts and long, lazy lunches. 

The house is a quick walk to Machroes Beach, a long sandy expanse perfect for splashing around in the shallows or practising a wide range of watersports like sailing and windsurfing. Follow the coastal path which runs close to the house, for rambling walks through stunning scenery. Machroes Beach backs onto Abersoch golf course, where you can have a swing and a putt on their 18-hole course overlooking the ocean.

From farm animals to a slide, swingset, playhouse, trampoline and a football goal – families travelling with kids will love this fun-filled home in scenic North Wales. 

Set on a working farm, the cottage is brimming with periodic charm and unique quirks. We particualrly love the exposed stone walls and wooden beams of the main living area, which, alongside a bold pop of red, carried through the leather armchairs and patterned rug. Both the bold and country-style aesthetic here create a truly characterful space to enjoy in comfort.

This home feels like a celebration of the sea and the great outdoors. First of all there’s that view from the garden out over the green of the LLyn Peninsula and to the denim-blue Cardigan Bay beyond. Make the most of days outdoors in the summer kitchen, perhaps prepping and grilling some freshly-caught fish for the nearby sea. Dining can take place by the blooming hydrangea on the lawn, or on the patio. 

From the wall of glass in the living room, you’ve got a view of the boats in the bay – get a closer look through the telescope. Make your way through the grand estate gates and down the drive where you're sure to feel the history all around you. The cottage itself is a delightful blend of old and new, with a large, light extension complete with glass doors, a piano and a log burner sitting alongside original features like pretty leaded windows. Outdoors, there’s a charmingly wild garden, a sun-trap patio for morning coffees, and a hot tub for soaking your bones after long hikes in the Welsh countryside. Walkers are spoilt for choice with paths and lanes crisscrossing the surrounding countryside, and if you don’t mind hopping in the car, you’re a half-hour drive from some of the best walking terrain in the world in the form of Snowdonia National Park. Alternatively, head over to the long sandy beach at Morfa Nefyn, only seven minutes away in the car.
