A long, private drive leads to this romantic retreat in the rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula. A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. And we love the huge, super stylish bathroom, with its walk-in shower and freestanding tub below a skylight. Just a ten-minute drive from the pretty seaside village of Abersoch, it's the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world.

What could be more romantic than a tiny cottage in the country? This pretty little home on the Llyn Peninsula is surprisingly modern thanks to its recent refurbishment. Comfortable and stylish, it's the perfect retreat for couples trying to get away from it all. Set in a secluded rural area, with great walking on your doorstep, it's about as far from the madding crowd as it gets. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby.

This home might be a traditional farmhouse from the outside, but the interior is sleek, contemporary, and comfortable. Pick up fish and chips on your way back to the cottage, and dine alfresco on the patio. From there you can admire the views, and let the kids run wild on the lawn. Later on, curl up in the living room and play games together. Your four-legged friend can stay here too, so nobody has to miss out.

Though the style might feel a little dated in parts, we love the space this offers large groups across the three cottages – each with a living area and kitchen. Each unit also has a private patio, but there's plenty of communal space where everyone can come together. The garden also makes for a great escape for taller guests feeling a little contained by the low bedroom ceilings.

Set on a working farm, the cottage is brimming with periodic charm and unique quirks. We particualrly love the exposed stone walls and wooden beams of the main living area, which, alongside a bold pop of red, carried through the leather armchairs and patterned rug. Both the bold and country-style aesthetic here create a truly characterful space to enjoy in comfort. 

While the home is positioned in tranquil and secluded countryside, you'll be conveniently just a short drive away from the local beaches, restaurants, and quintessential Welsh villages. 



Fun on the Farm 

This coastal home sits within beautiful grounds at the entrance to the village of Abersoch, making it an ideal setting for seaside escapes. The uninterrupted sea views are undoubtedly the star of the show here, and they can be enjoyed from inside and out. We love the flower-filled garden, and the front terrace with its table and chairs – it’s a stunning spot for afternoon tea. Inside, you’ll find high ceilings and antique furniture. Given that it’s a period home, it’s unsurprising that some of the decor is a little dated – it won’t appeal to everyone.

Gwynedd Glamour

Set on the Llyn Peninsula, this cottage for two combines a rural setting with some serious design flair. The open-plan living area is full of trendy details – from the cow hide rug to the wood burning stove, it’s cool without sacrificing any of the cosiness. The bedroom is guaranteed to wow you, with a freestanding bath tub and a four poster bed for rest and relaxation in style. The outdoor patio is a lovely spot for a glass of wine as you drink in the countryside views, and a barbecue is available for grilling up a feast. Explore the hidden sandy beach close by, or take a short drive into the pretty fishing village of Aberdaron. From there you can catch a boat over to the holy island of Bardsey which has been a place of pilgrimage since ancient times.

The panoramic views across the water are simply incredible, and there is plenty of coast and countryside to explore on invigorating walks or bike rides. Adventurous types can also explore the peaks and valleys of nearby Snowdonia National Park, before coming home to soak their muscles in the outdoor hot tub. You could even book a massage or beauty treatment for your stay. The games room is a welcome distraction on rainy days, where you can get competitive playing air hockey, darts and table tennis. There are also two sitting rooms, for quieter times relaxing with a good book or toasting in front of the wood burning stove. 

Amber Glow

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Farmer & Grain

It may be a five-minute drive from the beaches of Hells Mouth, but this home is more like heaven. Dating back to the 13th century, this former mill cottage has been beautifully restored to a two bedroom home that feels much lighter and airer on the inside than the old stone exterior would have you believe – charming though it is. The crackle of a wood-burner set into the old stone wall of the living room provides a little country comfort, while the underfloor heating can keep chilly toes warm. Listen to the babbling of the small brook running alongside the home as you laze in the flower-filled cottage garden or get ready for a walk around the quiet, storybook village of Llangian. There's a small village shop just down the road. Or, hop in the car and get exploring the craggy coastlines and serene countryside just moments from your home. The coastal village of Abersoch is a five-minute drive away, where ice cream parlours and surf shops await. When you do eventually return to your cosy cottage, enjoy a glass of chilled wine on the gorgeous patio before getting a restful night's sleep under the vintage-style skylight shutters and rustic sloped ceilings overhead. 

Bore Da

A two-minute walk from the fine sands and shallow water of Abersoch Harbour Beach, this home is perfect for a family or group of friends looking for a modern seaside escape. Inside, light and space are cleverly maximised – we loved the open-plan living area with its enormous windows and double-height ceilings. Your mornings begin here with a coffee on the comfortable sofa before choosing to breakfast on one of the sun trap balconies. 

If exploring is on the agenda, lace up your hiking boots and follow the Wales Coastal Path to Pwllheli or stay local and take the ten-minute amble into the heart of town for indie shops and fantastic seafood eateries. Surfing enthusiasts should make a beeline for Hell’s Mouth, a seven-minute drive away – keep an eye out for Bottlenose dolphins as you carve through the waves. When the day draws to a close, head back to your pad for a chilled glass of wine as the sun starts to set and an early night in the cosy bedrooms, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Under Milk Wood

This cute little cottage makes the most of its location right on the seafront. It’s just steps away from a small sandy bay where the sea laps at the shore of the Llyn Peninsula. You’ll be in the heart of Abersoch village, a charming harbour town where fishing boats bob in the water and beach cafés line the shore. If you like your beaches long and practically deserted, it’s an eight-minute drive to Porth Neigwl. The cottage itself is fishing-village white on the outside and has a handful of balconies and terraces all facing the beautiful sea view. There’s a walled patio with an outdoor fire for chilly evenings and a dining table on the terrace for sunny days. That’s not to mention the glass-fronted balcony that looks out over the boats in the harbour too. Inside, it’s cottage-chic with wooden floors and nautical decor touches – driftwood fireplaces and anchor cushions. The main living area is open plan, on the ground floor, where a living room is set around an electric stove and the big breakfasting table is set for six. Upstairs, a more formal living room opens up onto the top terrace with views out over the harbour below.

This home is situated just a short distance from the shops and beaches of Abersoch, making for a convenient base for a small family visiting the Llŷn Peninsula. You’ll benefit from a private balcony with pleasant views over the green neighbourhood, while the interior is modern and comfy – if a bit sparse. Space may be on the compact side but there’s enough room for everyone to find a quiet nook, with a dining area for family meals and an outdoor table for morning coffee and sunset drinks. There's free on-street parking here, too – ideal if you plan to explore further afield.
