Located on the rural outskirts of Abersoch, this 200-year-old renovated lead miner's cottage provides a great base for a family holiday. Though the interior is quite traditional and the exterior could do with a lick of paint, it comes with some lovely amenities. There’s a fireplace to get all cosy during those colder months and outside, you'll find a small patio with outdoor seating and a tiered lawn, bordering the green hills beyond. There's beach gear in the garden shed for when you’re headed to one of the nearby beaches and if you’re looking for a meal out, you can take a walk down to the local family-friendly pub.

If you like your beaches long and practically deserted, it’s an eight-minute drive to Porth Neigwl. The cottage itself is fishing-village white on the outside and has a handful of balconies and terraces all facing the beautiful sea view. There’s a walled patio with an outdoor fire for chilly evenings and a dining table on the terrace for sunny days. That’s not to mention the glass-fronted balcony that looks out over the boats in the harbour too. When the day draws to a close, head back to your pad for a chilled glass of wine as the sun starts to set and an early night in the cosy bedrooms, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

Comfortable and stylish, it's the perfect retreat for couples trying to get away from it all. Set in a secluded rural area, with great walking on your doorstep, it's about as far from the madding crowd as it gets. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby.

Spend an afternoon searching for shells on Abersoch’s sand, a seven-minute drive away, or potter around the market town of Pwllheli.

This home feels like a celebration of the sea and the great outdoors. First of all there’s that view from the garden out over the green of the LLyn Peninsula and to the denim-blue Cardigan Bay beyond. Make the most of days outdoors in the summer kitchen, perhaps prepping and grilling some freshly-caught fish for the nearby sea. A long dining table is big enough to accommodate the group and the kitchen is a vision of sleek, white modernity. Choose between the main lounge with its sea view, or cosy up by the stove in the second sitting room. The master bedroom is a sight to behold, with its wall of windows looking out over the landscape, and we love the nautical touches throughout – a reminder of your seaside locale.

Explore the Llyn Peninsula from this comfortable and stylish converted barn on the edge of Abersoch. With beautifully landscaped side and rear terraces, a lovely first-floor balcony off the kitchen and a field opposite for running off steam and ball games, it's a perfect family getaway – and it happens to come with spectacular, panoramic views. Perched on the hillside above the popular village, it looks out across it to the sea and St Tudwal’s Islands in one direction and the rolling hills in the other. With much of the accommodation on the ground floor, the heart of the home is the big living room, with its wood floors and comfy, modern sofas. The bedrooms and bathroom are all of a good size and a Juliet balcony in the master bedroom brings the outdoors in. Upstairs, making the most of the views, the spacious eat-in kitchen is fully kitted-out for families to cook at home. The vaulted ceiling and balcony are the stars of the show up here. Elsewhere, sit outside for a barbecue on the rear terrace or head off for a walk. It's just a five-minute drive into the village and to the beach.

There's never a dull moment here, thanks to the board games for all ages, the pool table, and the hot tub out on the private terrace. Just so you know, the home is spread over three floors, so it may not suit those who struggle with stairs. Pwllheli Beach is an easy walk away, and the nearby town has restaurants, shops and pubs to enjoy.

The Saltair

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Farmer & Grain

Not much more than a five-minute drive from the popular village of Abersoch, this character cottage was once the farm's grain store and dates back to the 1800s. Set among a small group of similar homes, and close to a touring campsite, it comes with plenty of shared outdoor space and a private terrace with sea views. Just a short walk from The Warren beach and a mile from Abersoch's golden sands, it offers views across the Llŷn Peninsula and is a great base for keen walkers, cyclists and adventurers.

This lovely 18th-century blacksmith’s cottage makes for a wonderful holiday home. It’s in a quiet location on the beautiful Llyn Peninsula, so you’re guaranteed a serene break but you’re within easy reach of plenty of attractions. There are countless small towns and villages to explore nearby, and you’re right on the coast. It takes fifteen minutes to stroll along to Llanbedrog Beach, where you can admire the beach huts, paddle in the shallows, and relax on the sand. Gorgeous Abersoch is just seven minutes away by car, too. 

If you’re feeling active, you might lace up your hiking boots and set off on the Llanbedrog walking trail to Mynydd Tir-y-Cwmwd. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Cardigan Bay and the peninsula. When you return to the cottage, you can rest your weary muscles in the fabulous hot tub. Sip Champagne as you soak in the bubbles and relax. When the sun has set, you’ll be treated to wonderfully clear skies for stargazing. 

The cottage itself has all the charm of a period property, but it’s been brought up to date so you can look forward to luxurious touches. When you’re not soaking in the hot tub, you might be curled up in front of the log burner. There’s also a cute beach hut in the garden where you can dine, having fired up the barbecue for dinner. It’s practically impossible to leave here feeling anything less than completely blissed out.

This breezy bungalow is the definition of contemporary coastal, with its natural textiles, soothing blue and white colour scheme and seaside-inspired decorations. It's as relaxing as it looks, especially the cosy living area – on chilly evenings, curl up by the fire after sharing a family meal around the dining table. Cooking is anything but a chore in the modern kitchen, and the bi-fold doors are a real treat – when the weather is nice, you can step straight into the sun-soaked garden and relax or dine alfresco. We suggest enjoying breakfast in the morning light before heading out for a day on the coast. Pack a picnic and hit the beach – National Trust's Llanbedrog Beach is a twelve-minute walk away, while Abersoch and Pwllheli are less than a ten-minute drive if you'd like to switch things up. After an afternoon splashing in the water and wandering the coastal paths, enjoy a pint and delicious bites at the two pubs in town – both are family-friendly and are a short stroll from home.
