Located on the rural outskirts of Abersoch, this 200-year-old renovated lead miner's cottage provides a great base for a family holiday. Though the interior is quite traditional and the exterior could do with a lick of paint, it comes with some lovely amenities. There’s a fireplace to get all cosy during those colder months and outside, you'll find a small patio with outdoor seating and a tiered lawn, bordering the green hills beyond. There's beach gear in the garden shed for when you’re headed to one of the nearby beaches and if you’re looking for a meal out, you can take a walk down to the local family-friendly pub.

You’re within walking distance of the beach – the soft sand of Abersoch Bay is three minutes on foot. If you want something more grand and sweeping than the harbour-side beach, head to Porth Neigwl, a six-minute drive away. The home itself has some serious wow-factor, starting with the hot tub in the garden and plush rattan sofa set on the patio, perfect for evening cocktails or barbecue lunch. Inside, you’ll find the main living room on the top floor, taking advantage of a view over the village out to where the fishing boats bob out at sea. If you like your beaches long and practically deserted, it’s an eight-minute drive to Porth Neigwl. The cottage itself is fishing-village white on the outside and has a handful of balconies and terraces all facing the beautiful sea view. There’s a walled patio with an outdoor fire for chilly evenings and a dining table on the terrace for sunny days. That’s not to mention the glass-fronted balcony that looks out over the boats in the harbour too. Inside, it’s cottage-chic with wooden floors and nautical decor touches – driftwood fireplaces and anchor cushions. The main living area is open plan, on the ground floor, where a living room is set around an electric stove and the big breakfasting table is set for six. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby.

If exploring is on the agenda, lace up your hiking boots and follow the Wales Coastal Path to Pwllheli or stay local and take the ten-minute amble into the heart of town for indie shops and fantastic seafood eateries. Surfing enthusiasts should make a beeline for Hell’s Mouth, a seven-minute drive away – keep an eye out for Bottlenose dolphins as you carve through the waves. When the day draws to a close, head back to your pad for a chilled glass of wine as the sun starts to set and an early night in the cosy bedrooms, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

It may be a five-minute drive from the beaches of Hells Mouth, but this home is more like heaven. Dating back to the 13th century, this former mill cottage has been beautifully restored to a two bedroom home that feels much lighter and airer on the inside than the old stone exterior would have you believe – charming though it is. The crackle of a wood-burner set into the old stone wall of the living room provides a little country comfort, while the underfloor heating can keep chilly toes warm. Listen to the babbling of the small brook running alongside the home as you laze in the flower-filled cottage garden or get ready for a walk around the quiet, storybook village of Llangian. There's a small village shop just down the road. Or, hop in the car and get exploring the craggy coastlines and serene countryside just moments from your home. The coastal village of Abersoch is a five-minute drive away, where ice cream parlours and surf shops await. One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Being linked to an art gallery has some unique perks, including many eye-catching works by local artists adorning the walls. The fact that the area is an established Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty provides plenty of inspiration for the art, in addition to a treasure trove of nearby scenic spots to seek out under your own steam.

A stay at this self-catering accommodation places you within easy reach of the Llŷn Peninsula's most stunning sights and a little over thirty minutes from the unspoiled landscapes of Snowdonia National Park. Given that it’s a period home, it’s unsurprising that some of the decor is a little dated – it won’t appeal to everyone.

For days out locally, a short walk will take you to Llanbedrog's renowned National Trust beach with its pretty huts and a great selection of eateries to indulge in some local cuisine.

There’s something fairytale-esque about this cottage; perhaps it’s the stone walls that call to mind a royal tower, the breathtaking views over the Llyn Peninsula countryside, or the crackling wood burner drawing guests into the heart of the living room. We love this home's interior. It exudes warmth and comfort, with a country-style kitchen that'll delight any home chef. But really, our favourite bit of this charming home is the suntrap of a garden. Surrounded by lush greenery, with a sweet converted shed at the bottom of the garden. And to top it all off, your bubbling hot tub awaits – submerge into its warm, muscle-soothing waters after a day exploring the area's many cycling and hiking trails. When you’re ready to explore your surroundings, head into the heart of Llanbedrog village for the Plas Glyn y Weddw art gallery, variety of independent shops and famous Tin Man sculpture who keeps a watchful eye over Cardigan Bay. Spend an afternoon searching for shells on Abersoch’s sand, a seven-minute drive away, or potter around the market town of Pwllheli. 

If the clouds become laden, hotfoot it back home to cosy up in front of the wood-burning stove with a couple of Welsh cakes and a mug of Earl Grey tea.

Come during the warmer months and there are plenty of spots to relax out in the open air, whether reading in one of the egg chairs, clinking glasses in the covered bar area or dining out on the terrace – perhaps a meal cooked on the pizza oven or barbecue. Whichever one you choose, you can enjoy sweeping views of North Welsh fields and hillsides.

However, if you're paying a visit during the colder months, it's just as easy to get toasty and warm inside. The wood-burner in the living room is lovely to hunker down next to at the end of the day, while the foosball table should keep you entertained during rainy afternoons. Come dinnertime, the contemporary grey kitchen has a wealth of space for ambitious meals and the vintage-style dining table is sure to add a sense of occasion to whatever you cook up.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there are beaches in almost every direction, including Porth Neigwl only ten minutes' drive away. Plas Yn Rhiw manor house and gardens make for a sedate afternoon out and are only a ten-minute drive away too, while Abersoch takes about double that time to reach.

This home feels like a celebration of the sea and the great outdoors. First of all there’s that view from the garden out over the green of the LLyn Peninsula and to the denim-blue Cardigan Bay beyond.
