Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the centre of Saundersfoot and its beach is all of five mintues' walk from the front door. The town of Tenby is also only ten minutes' drive down the coastline and offers visitors a castle and a selection of galleries to visit.

In addition to the expansive beach, the old tramway route that connected the coal port to mines at Stepsaside survives as a spectacular section of the picturesque Pembrokeshire Coast Path. It's 186 miles long in total, but we'd recommend dipping in and out to walk along particularly panoramic parts.

Those who prefer their outdoor activities more action-packed will find some of Pembrokeshire's finest surf spots within a twenty-mile drive. A particular standout is Freshwater West, which is hailed by many as the most reliable break in the land of dragons and daffodils.

Bookended on one side by Saundersfoot and the other by Narberth, this home in Ludchurch is in an excellent spot for exploring Pembrokeshire's coast. A ten-minute drive away is Telpyn Beach, but just a little further is Tenby, home to pretty pastel houses, narrow lanes lined with boutiques and pubs, and not to mention the five award-winning beaches. As far as locales go, it's pretty ideal – close to the seaside, yet tucked away in the countryside for extra tranquillity. And the views from this home aren't bad, either. Stretching out over the countryside and towards the sea, the best place to take it all in is the private hot tub. Pour yourself a glass of wine and sink into the bubbling waters, watching as the sun slowly sets and the stars come out. Inside is cosy and warm, with a comfortable living area and a sleek kitchen that makes cooking up a storm easy. Everything is on the ground floor, so it's very accessible – the en-suite in the main bedroom even has a roll-in shower, support aids and emergency pull cords. Compact and cosy, the bedrooms, in particular, are a bit of a squeeze, but it has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The second bedroom is short on space when sleeping four – having said that, it’s ideal for families with young children. Getting ready in the mornings may take a while with one bathroom, but that’ll soon be forgotten once you step onto the golden sands of nearby Saundersfoot beach.

Salt Water Sonata

Located just a four-minute walk from the beach and shops of Wisemans Bridge, this home offers a comfortable stay for those looking to explore the beauty of the Pembrokeshire Coast. Laid out over two floors, you’ll find plenty of nautical nods in the decor, as well as a cosy fireplace in the living area – perfect for curling up by on cooler nights with a glass of wine. Further comforts include a pair of en-suite bedrooms – we’re particularly smitten with the freestanding tub – and a garden complete with outdoor seating, ideal for dining alfresco on warm summer evenings.

Right on the shorefront in the charming seaside town of Tenby, you can watch the waves roll in and out as you take breakfast at the sunny dining table. The open living area is an opulent medley of high corniced ceilings, bold midnight blue walls and tufted velvet sofas. Quartz-topped and tucked into an old archway, the kitchen is a shining example of modernity amidst the Georgian-style furnishings. When Mary Ann Evans paid a visit to this home in 1857, she was inspired to write a novel. A year later, Scenes From A Clerical Life was published under the nom de plume George Eliot and over the course of the next twenty years, she would write some of the most influential books of the period, including Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda.

No pressure to anybody coming to this four-storey, Grade-II listed townhouse in the present day, then. Straight away, you can see why it had the power to rouse dormant literary ambitions — the view from the huge windows of Tenby Harbour is nothing short of sublime. Even though the interior has been updated in the proceeding two centuries, there are still signs of the home's heritage, from the high ceilings and tall windows to the original wooden floorboards in the hallway.

If you ever need a break from working on your manuscript, Castle Beach takes all of a minute to reach on foot, as does the 12th-century landmark that lends the sandy spot its name. Catching the twenty-minute ferry to see the abbey on Caldey Island is well worth doing, too.

For a perfectly restful and relaxing stay on the Pembrokeshire coast head over to this bright and comfy apartment situated right on the seafront of the charming resort town of Saundersfoot. With all the conveniences and a golden sandy beach just moments away, this home is an ideal base for a family or a small group of friends looking to enjoy the calming beauty of the seaside. 

Arrive to find a generous open-plan living room and kitchen area, with plenty of space to enjoy leisurely evenings of movies and delicious feasts with your loved ones. The sleek and well-equipped kitchen will make rustling up those scrumptious meals a breeze and you can share them at the elegant dining table – and should you have some laptop duties to attend to, this is also a great spot for it. Seafront Ballet 

Overlooking the quaint harbour, this waterfront apartment puts you at the heart of some of Tenby's favourite spots. Stroll to the sleepy seaside town's restaurants and boutique shops, or walk to Tenby North Beach in under ten minutes. The interiors are a little dated, but the home is well-kept, cosy and equipped with most of what you'll need for a comfortable stay – though you'll have to bring your own towels. With views and a central location, this home does well for itself, and the compact balcony is a nice bonus, especially for a nightcap.

Harbour Moon

Overlooking Tenby's South Beach, this apartment on the lower-ground floor of a handsome yellow building is ideal for those who want to be able to go from their front door to the seaside in a matter of seconds, rather than minutes.

Aside from this proximity to the sea, we found lots else to like about the home. The design is pared-back and sophisticated, with parquet floors, white walls and a selection of chic furnishings creating the relaxed ambience of a high-end hotel's lobby. The baby-blue kitchen is both super-sleek and big enough for cooking up hearty meals, while there's also a private courtyard outside just in case the weather's nice enough to dine alfresco.

If that's the case, there's plenty to see and do in this south Welsh idyll. Tenby Castle is only ten minutes' walk up the coast, as is the town's Museum and Art Gallery. This area by the North Beach is also where you can catch a ferry to Caldey Island, on which you can visit the monastery and spot some of the diverse wildlife.

 

Master Draughtsman

You’ll find this quaint blue and white cottage in the heart of Tenby, a mere five-minute stroll from the breezy swathes of North Beach. Inside, it’s effortlessly stylish yet supremely comfortable with a wood-burning stove in the living room and a convivial kitchen made for family life. There’s a boot room that ensures a no-stress entrance for muddy wellies and three quiet bedrooms that guarantee a restful night’s sleep. 

Outside, the enclosed garden with decking area is the perfect place for barbecues on sunny afternoons. Take advantage of the glorious weather and follow the Pembrokeshire Coast Path to Saundersfoot or mosey into town to get your culture fix at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery. As dusk starts to fall, pick up a bag of golden fish and chips to be enjoyed by the harbour, less than a fifteen-minute walk from your doorstep.

Mornings here would be best spent enjoying a leisurely cuppa and breakfast, seated on the balcony as you overlook the shore. From here, you can take in the breathtaking vistas of golden sandy beaches and rolling waves, with a panorama that even stretches as far as St. Catherine’s Island and Caldey Island.

Spend your days on Tenby's South Beach itself, which is a short walk away, below a promenade and cliffs. Then, when you return home, get comfortable on the sofa or in the armchair to continue admiring the views. Even while you’re cooking dinner at night, you will be able to snatch glimpses of the sea views through the windows. 

Shore is Something

As you look around this home, it becomes clear very quickly that it has been designed to make the most of the beautiful coastal scenery in which this part of south Wales really specialises. In the living room, huge bi-fold doors open up to Juliet balconies that gaze out over Tenby's South Beach, while in the bedrooms there are further balconies, only this time with a view of Caldy Island. With such glorious panoramas, you could be forgiven for not really paying the interior much attention, but when you do get around to it, you'll find a modern space that's simple but effective — we're fans of the minimalist white kitchen, in particular. As you can probably imagine when looking out the window, the beach isn't too far away — just five minutes' walk, in fact. Tenby Castle can be reached in under a quarter of an hour on foot, too.

Welsh Cake

With its baby blue timber exterior, the long shady verandah that skirts around the side of the house and the verdant surroundings, you could be excused for thinking this house was in the Deep South. And it is in a way, just not the USA. It's actually in the deep south of Wales, part of Trefloyne Manor Golf Course and Spa. Guests can access both of these facilities for an extra fee, as well as the bar and restaurant which sit just a few minutes' walk away. The inside of the home has the feel of a secluded forest cabin, thanks to the wooden ceilings, floors and walls. However, the smart design of the address means it can adapt to the seasons — there's underfloor heating for the colder months and glass doors leading out to a balcony for when the sun makes an appearance. When the weather does look bright, Tenby's South Beach can be reached in fifteen minutes on foot, while the town of Penally can be reached in twenty.

From there, you can admire the pastel-coloured houses, marvel at the ruins of Tenby Castle, and even take a boat trip to neighbouring Caldey Island. Closer to home, you'll find a couple of award-winning restaurants, two cosy pubs, and a village shop in Penally. 

When you've had your fill of adventures, relax back at this homely bolthole, and soak up the rural scenery. Wander through the open-plan living area and throw open the lovely French doors to indulge in a delicious alfresco breakfast. Come evening, you can fire up the charcoal barbecue for a feast on the terrace as you watch the sunset.
