Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the centre of Saundersfoot and its beach is all of five mintues' walk from the front door. The town of Tenby is also only ten minutes' drive down the coastline and offers visitors a castle and a selection of galleries to visit.

It's 186 miles long in total, but we'd recommend dipping in and out to walk along particularly panoramic parts.

When Mary Ann Evans paid a visit to this home in 1857, she was inspired to write a novel. A year later, Scenes From A Clerical Life was published under the nom de plume George Eliot and over the course of the next twenty years, she would write some of the most influential books of the period, including Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda.

No pressure to anybody coming to this four-storey, Grade-II listed townhouse in the present day, then. Straight away, you can see why it had the power to rouse dormant literary ambitions — the view from the huge windows of Tenby Harbour is nothing short of sublime. Even though the interior has been updated in the proceeding two centuries, there are still signs of the home's heritage, from the high ceilings and tall windows to the original wooden floorboards in the hallway.

If you ever need a break from working on your manuscript, Castle Beach takes all of a minute to reach on foot, as does the 12th-century landmark that lends the sandy spot its name. Catching the twenty-minute ferry to see the abbey on Caldey Island is well worth doing, too.

Bookended on one side by Saundersfoot and the other by Narberth, this home in Ludchurch is in an excellent spot for exploring Pembrokeshire's coast. A ten-minute drive away is Telpyn Beach, but just a little further is Tenby, home to pretty pastel houses, narrow lanes lined with boutiques and pubs, and not to mention the five award-winning beaches. As far as locales go, it's pretty ideal – close to the seaside, yet tucked away in the countryside for extra tranquillity. And the views from this home aren't bad, either. Stretching out over the countryside and towards the sea, the best place to take it all in is the private hot tub. Pour yourself a glass of wine and sink into the bubbling waters, watching as the sun slowly sets and the stars come out. Inside is cosy and warm, with a comfortable living area and a sleek kitchen that makes cooking up a storm easy. Everything is on the ground floor, so it's very accessible – the en-suite in the main bedroom even has a roll-in shower, support aids and emergency pull cords. We think a family would be pleased to call this place home during a stay on the Welsh coast.

Set above the sea, a three-minute walk to North Beach, this stylish home is perfectly positioned for exploring the heart of Tenby and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Inside, there’s an open-plan living space with a moody blue and grey colour scheme, creating a sophisticated yet cosy feel. We particularly loved the subtle nautical nods and funky artwork. On chilly days, warm your toes by the fire or sip a mug of hot tea by the enormous bay windows, watching as the waves break on the shore. Cook up your favourite dinners in the flash kitchenette – but not before you’ve sampled fish and chips from D.Fecci and Sons on lower Frog Street, some of the best in town. When the sun shines, make a beeline for the placid waters of Castle Beach and explore Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, the oldest of its kind in Wales. If you’d prefer to expend a little more energy, it’s an hour’s amble to Saundersfoot. 

What A Catch

Overlooking Tenby's South Beach, this apartment on the lower-ground floor of a handsome yellow building is ideal for those who want to be able to go from their front door to the seaside in a matter of seconds, rather than minutes.

Aside from this proximity to the sea, we found lots else to like about the home. The design is pared-back and sophisticated, with parquet floors, white walls and a selection of chic furnishings creating the relaxed ambience of a high-end hotel's lobby. The baby-blue kitchen is both super-sleek and big enough for cooking up hearty meals, while there's also a private courtyard outside just in case the weather's nice enough to dine alfresco.

If that's the case, there's plenty to see and do in this south Welsh idyll. Tenby Castle is only ten minutes' walk up the coast, as is the town's Museum and Art Gallery. This area by the North Beach is also where you can catch a ferry to Caldey Island, on which you can visit the monastery and spot some of the diverse wildlife.

You only need to look out the window at the uninterrupted sea views to understand why we adore this apartment. Not only is this pad light, bright and roomy, but the panoramas of Tenby's North Beach are truly something spectacular. Whether you're lounging in the cosy armchairs or enjoying a tasty meal at the small dining table, you'll be able to watch the waves break on the shore. After a long day in the sun, there's nothing better than sinking into the plush Hypnos mattress in the bedroom and getting some well-deserved shut-eye. Even better than the vistas is the central location – it's just a three-minute stroll from the front door to the beach. When you're not sprawled out in the sand, spend your days here strolling along the cobbled streets lined with colourful pastel houses. Tenby is a historic town with plenty of seaside charm and sprawling beaches. Then, when you return home, get comfortable on the sofa or in the armchair to continue admiring the views. Even while you’re cooking dinner at night, you will be able to snatch glimpses of the sea views through the windows.

Overlooking the quaint harbour, this waterfront apartment puts you at the heart of some of Tenby's favourite spots. Stroll to the sleepy seaside town's restaurants and boutique shops, or walk to Tenby North Beach in under ten minutes. The interiors are a little dated, but the home is well-kept, cosy and equipped with most of what you'll need for a comfortable stay – though you'll have to bring your own towels. With views and a central location, this home does well for itself, and the compact balcony is a nice bonus, especially for a nightcap.
