Just outside the home’s gate, you will find access straight to the estuary which leads to Newport Bay and Parrog – reachable in just twenty-three minutes on foot, which makes it ideal for a leisurely walk together. Then return home in the late afternoon for Welsh cake warmed in the Aga. 

In the evenings, cosy up on the big squashy sofa in front of the wood burner with your dog curled up at your feet as you watch your family's favourite film. Newport is a pretty market town on the north coast of Pembrokeshire, situated at the foot of Carnigli Mountain and the Preseli Hills. There's an array of eateries, including small cafes and old-fashioned pubs, within walking distance, as well as independent shops and galleries. Newport Beach isn't far – about a half-hour stroll along the coastal path – while historic sites like Pentre Ifan, Castell Henllys Iron Age Village and Nevern Castle are less than ten minutes by car.

Your hosts have found space for a comfy king-size mattress despite the compact footprint. Given the lack of light pollution out here, stargazing through the skylight from the comfort of your bed is truly breathtaking. Elsewhere, the kitchenette is perfect for cooking up light bites to eat at the dining table or in the outdoor dining area.

Set within its own private garden, the outdoor space has been planted with seasonal herbs, flowers and salad, which you're more than welcome to help yourself to. In addition, a fire pit makes for atmospheric evenings in nature.

It was love at first sight when we clapped our eyes on this eco shepherd's hut, squirreled away in the sleepy village of Moylegrove along the North Pembrokeshire coastline.

With the mighty Pembrokeshire Coast National Park just a stone's throw away, this is a home to embrace the great outdoors and escape the outside world. Discover vast beaches and secluded, sandy coves just a fifteen-minute walk away. Embrace the sea with kayaking and dolphin-spotting boat trips. Or, for something a little more genteel, there are independent shops, galleries and fabulous restaurants just a short drive away in the nearby villages.

Back at home, we love the contemporary design aesthetic of this shepherd's hut, with copper and matt black accents letting the birch-clad interiors sing. A king-sized bed decked out in Egyptian cotton sheets and a rainfall shower room next door dial up the luxury. And the welcome hamper crammed with organic goodies (think fresh eggs straight from the host's hens and homemade bread) has everything you need to rustle up breakfast in the smart kitchenette. Or, let your host, Megan cook up a feast for you over at the main house.

Home chefs can let loose in the kitchen, rustling up freshly-baked cakes and mouthwatering Sunday roasts to share around the eight-seater table. Upstairs, a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub before bedtime is just the ticket after a long day.

Speaking of, we can't help but swoon over the verdant, lush landscape that awaits you outside. Listen to the babbling stream as you share a pitcher of Pimm's or gather around the fire pit on hazy summer evenings. It's not just grown-ups who will adore this home. Kids can while away afternoons in the loft playroom, play pretend in the treehouse, follow the fairy trail and bounce on the trampoline. With garden games and rope swings, it's perfect for little ones and the young at heart.

Perched on the banks of the Teifi estuary, this renovated former sea captain's villa in southwest Wales treats guests to some spectacular waterside views. For active travellers, the nearby activities are endless – you'll find golf courses, stunning beaches within walking distance, shore fishing, pony trekking and a host of cycling paths. The Ceredigion section of the All Wales Coastal Path can be joined with just a five-minute walk from home, and the area is home to a choice of local boat tour operators, should you fancy a closer look at the bay’s famous dolphins.

Nestled in the Pembrokeshire countryside, this home is a cosy and modern spot for a break in this beautiful part of the country. A former farm store, recently converted with excellent attention to detail, it sits in the village of New Moat, just a ten-minute drive from the Preselli Hills.

Open-plan living space makes for a sociable layout and there's a lovely new log burner with a leather armchair just made for reading in. Bring your bikes or your hiking boots for adventures in the hills, or drive just five minutes to Llys-y-Fran Lake, with its water sports, cafe and cycling routes. And you can drive to Pembrokeshire's coast in around half an hour, giving easy access to places like Fishguard, Solva and Broad Haven.

The village of Tresaith on the Ceredigion coastline is relatively humble, but you can find some truly spectacular homes here – this three-storey gem is among them.

It's definitely an address that has been constructed with the surrounding scenery in mind, with sea views to be admired from the balconies and out through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Even to the rear of the house that isn't so blessed with coastal vistas, there's a peaceful terrace surrounded by flower beds and it's more than possible to enjoy alfresco feasts in this space, thanks to the dining table, pizza oven and barbecue.

Should the weather ever be a little uninspiring, there's plenty to keep guests entertained inside. In the games room alone, you'll find tables for pool and table tennis, as well as a darts board and piano. Enjoy a spot of shopping in Haverfordwest – a lovely twenty-five minute walk, or five minutes by car if you’re in a hurry – and sit down to enjoy lunch at one of the local pubs. There’s also a town museum if you’re interested in learning of the county's roots. 

After a long day on your feet you can retreat to this little stone cottage where you’ll be met by a neutral colour palette that benefits from the skylights in the vaulted ceiling. Some of the original features, especially visible in the facade, remain from its days as a traditional stone barn. Expect exposed brick and beam, modernised by the sleek kitchenette and cushy furnishishings.
