You can see those very shores from the perched hot tub in the backyard. Ease yourself into the warm water with a glass of wine and enjoy the views as you relax after a day of activity. 

Inside, find plush furnishings in muted greys, greens, and blues that come alive in the natural light of the large windows. There’s an understated elegance that works beautifully alongside the modern and homely elements of this home. Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the centre of Saundersfoot and its beach is all of five mintues' walk from the front door. The town of Tenby is also only ten minutes' drive down the coastline and offers visitors a castle and a selection of galleries to visit.

But for those of us who feel a little more at ease on dry land, well, you can head to the Mayfield Golf Centre not even ten minutes away by car, or see the exquisite vistas of the area by walking along the coastal paths.

Enjoy a spot of shopping in Haverfordwest – a lovely twenty-five minute walk, or five minutes by car if you’re in a hurry – and sit down to enjoy lunch at one of the local pubs. There’s also a town museum if you’re interested in learning of the county's roots. 

After a long day on your feet you can retreat to this little stone cottage where you’ll be met by a neutral colour palette that benefits from the skylights in the vaulted ceiling. Some of the original features, especially visible in the facade, remain from its days as a traditional stone barn. Expect exposed brick and beam, modernised by the sleek kitchenette and cushy furnishishings. 

Drag out the board games for a night or friendly competition, or select one of the books in the little library to enjoy curled up on the sofa. The fireplace is a brilliant feature for cooler evenings and if you want to really elevate the cosiness, we encourage a big cup of cocoa. 

For a treat, prepare your own afternoon tea to take out into the garden. Sit down at the bistro table, admiring the roses and abundance of foliage as you sip tea and enjoy a Welsh cake or cucumber sandwich.

Elsewhere, the stunning harbour town of Tenby is a twenty-minute drive, where its 13th-century walls and stretches of sandy shoreline wait to be explored.

The brainchild of a celebrated interior designer, this North Devon townhouse has got it all figured out. Located a couple of minutes’ drive from Croyde beach, where you’ll spend long days surfing and soaking up the salty sea breeze, the inside of the home is beautifully sophisticated, with subtle nautical nods—we loved the knot wallpaper and delicate fish shoal light shade. The bunks in the children’s room will be a hit with mini swashbucklers, while the pizza oven on the patio should keep big kids quiet for a while. You’ll find the pretty village of Croyde a five-minute amble down the road, offering a charming selection of tea rooms, ice cream parlours and thatched pubs. After a hearty roast dinner, retreat home to the outdoor hot tub before turning in for the night in those luxurious king-size beds.

Aye-Aye Captain

When Mary Ann Evans paid a visit to this home in 1857, she was inspired to write a novel. A year later, Scenes From A Clerical Life was published under the nom de plume George Eliot and over the course of the next twenty years, she would write some of the most influential books of the period, including Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda.

No pressure to anybody coming to this four-storey, Grade-II listed townhouse in the present day, then. Straight away, you can see why it had the power to rouse dormant literary ambitions — the view from the huge windows of Tenby Harbour is nothing short of sublime. Even though the interior has been updated in the proceeding two centuries, there are still signs of the home's heritage, from the high ceilings and tall windows to the original wooden floorboards in the hallway.

If you ever need a break from working on your manuscript, Castle Beach takes all of a minute to reach on foot, as does the 12th-century landmark that lends the sandy spot its name. Catching the twenty-minute ferry to see the abbey on Caldey Island is well worth doing, too.
