This warm and comfortable home is a great base for a family break. It’s ideally situated close to the shops, galleries and cafes of the Mumbles, as well as the beach – and there’s even an outdoor shower in the courtyard garden for you to rinse off sandy toes. When you want to explore further afield, you can drive along the Gower Peninsula to visit historic castles, stroll along the coast, and check out the beaches. This period home isn’t the flashiest in our collection, but we think it’s a homey spot and we love the location.

Aside from the exposed brickwork around the living room's fireplace, contemporary design is king here, with smart parquet flooring, chic furnishings and sparing use of colour all making for a space that's pleasing to the eye. The surfboard hanging on the dining room wall is a nice nod to the local area, while the views of Oystermouth Castle and Swansea Bay from the top-floor bedroom are rather special, too.

However, it's also a home that's innately cosy, too. After a bracing dip in the sea, it's easy to warm up next to the crackling log burner or in the large P-shaped bathtub. It’s in Mumbles, a seaside suburb with a Victorian pier, a long sweep of sandy beach and a medieval castle. We’re not exaggerating when we say the beach is mere footsteps away, just across the road. From here, you can follow the traffic-free walking path along the coast to Swansea, or to the wild headland in the other direction.

Returning to this cottage after a brisk seaside walk is a delight, especially with the electric fireplace glowing in the living room. You can watch the waves from the comfy sofa, thanks to the big sash window in the living room. There’s a dining table in here too, or you can opt for the more casual breakfast table in the full kitchen. Upstairs, the sea view continues in plush bedrooms and the loft landing is home to a bean-bag-strewn hang-out den. The piece de resistance is the private walled garden out the back with a cute wrought-iron dining set for an evening tipple in the sun.

About five minutes' walk from the Mumbles seafront, this cottage is exactly the sort of cosy place you'll look forward to returning to after a long day out in the open air.

If you're here during the warmer months, you can sit outside and watch the sky go through its daily transformation from the terrace, but if it's too cold to even think about doing that, you can hunker down next to the wood burner in the open-concept living area or luxuriate in the bathtub instead.

The design throughout is classy and uncomplicated, with smart wooden floors, wooden furnishings and chic tiling in both the kitchen and bathroom doing all the heavy lifting. Sometimes, you really don't need to go over the top with it.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, you can reach plenty of attractions on foot, including Oystermouth Castle four minutes away and Rotherslade Bay taking about a quarter of an hour. Even closer than both of those, there's a fish and chips shop at the end of the road, which is sure to come in handy when you're not in the mood to cook.

This wonderful apartment will have the whole family singing its praises after a stay. Located on the ground floor of a large Victorian house, it's the ideal place to call home during a stay on the Gower Peninsul, one of Wales' best-loved spots. 

The house retains much of its original character – you'll love the period fireplaces, patterned floor tiles, and huge bay window that frames the gorgeous sea views. On sunny days, you can head outside for a closer look and sip a cup of coffee on the patio while the kids explore the sprawling shared gardens. When you get hungry, you can whip up your favourite dishes in the kitchen to share around the handsome dining table. And, if you walk in the opposite direction, you'll find plenty of wonderful sandy coves, including Caswell Bay and Pwll Du Beach.

Despite being a bit far from Swansea's centre, you'll be right on the coast – a worthwhile trade as it's only a fifteen-minute walk to Langland Bay and thirty to Mumbles. It's a top-floor apartment, so expect to climb some stairs – but that aside, you'll have a good amount of space here to chill out and unwind. There isn't a TV, so bring a book or a deck of cards to pass along the time. Or, switch off completely and spend all your time with your toes in the sea.

With Mumbles' beautiful beach just 50 metres from your door and its characterful coffee shops and galleries even closer, the setting of this charming fisherman’s cottage is hard to beat. After a little more bustle? The centre of Swansea is just a short drive away. Although with a cosy fire waiting back at this dog-friendly cottage, you might decide to stay put. If we're being picky, there’s only one bathroom and not much of a garden to speak of here other than a small backyard. But with the beach so close, we don’t think you’ll mind.

The village of Tresaith on the Ceredigion coastline is relatively humble, but you can find some truly spectacular homes here – this three-storey gem is among them.

It's definitely an address that has been constructed with the surrounding scenery in mind, with sea views to be admired from the balconies and out through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Even to the rear of the house that isn't so blessed with coastal vistas, there's a peaceful terrace surrounded by flower beds and it's more than possible to enjoy alfresco feasts in this space, thanks to the dining table, pizza oven and barbecue.

Should the weather ever be a little uninspiring, there's plenty to keep guests entertained inside. Once you've exhausted these, the cinema room complete with leather seats and surround sound is the ideal place to watch a movie or some live sports. It's just as easy to escape to the Jacuzzi bathtub and treat yourself to an unrushed soak.

You'll eventually want to head to the seaside at some point and Tresaith Beach is less than ten minutes' away on foot. It's easy to arrange watersport activities here and – if you're lucky – spot dolphins. There's also a waterfall at the far end of the sand, as well.
