Get way off the beaten track at this gorgeous former smugglers' cottage on the stunning Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). In fact, it's so off-grid that you'll be required to leave your car in a secure spot and decamp into your host's Land Rover for the final mile, setting off down a rutted path and fording a stream before pulling up outside – setting the tone for an adventurous stay in the Welsh Wilderness.

First appearing in local records around 1700, the original part of this cottage is thought to be considerably older. After all, it wouldn't have served as a store for illicit contraband if its existence was known to everyone. Over time, it's been restored to create a rustic retreat that's equipped with all the mod cons required for a comfortable stay, including underfloor heating, a rolltop bath and an inglenook fireplace.

Another standout feature of this home is the charming cottage garden to the rear. Relax and breathe in the sea air as you sit out and sip a cup of tea out on the wildflower-dotted lawn before helping yourself to some fresh eggs, courtesy of the obliging hens.

The village of Tresaith on the Ceredigion coastline is relatively humble, but you can find some truly spectacular homes here – this three-storey gem is among them.

It's definitely an address that has been constructed with the surrounding scenery in mind, with sea views to be admired from the balconies and out through the floor-to-ceiling windows. It's the perfect laidback vibe for enjoying a drink while taking in the panoramic view of Woolacombe Beach and the North Devon countryside. Relaxing in your hot tub, a nice drink in hand, while looking out at the sweeping vista sounds like bliss.

The outdoor area's open and bright feel continues through to the interior, which is cloaked in neutral tones and chestnut woods. It's stylish yet inviting, with local artwork adding a touch of the beautiful Devon coast and countryside. Not that you could miss it – large windows encircle the home, offering ample opportunity to gaze at the mesmerising surfers all day long. Set above the sea, a three-minute walk to North Beach, this stylish home is perfectly positioned for exploring the heart of Tenby and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Set on the outskirts of the pretty village of Llanfrynach, on the grounds of a grade II*-listed Georgian mansion, this quaint cottage offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Step inside and head through to the open-plan living room, complete with an atmospheric wood burner and a dining table with plenty of space. There are plenty of trails leading straight from the front door up onto the high peaks of the Brecon Beacons. Alternatively, enjoy more leisurely strolls along the canal. Despite the easy access to the pristine landscapes, you'll find plenty of pubs and restaurants, as well as a supermarket, within a ten-minute drive. Finally, there's an on-site treatment room where you can indulge in various therapy treatments ranging from manicures to deep tissue massages after a hard day hiking in the hills.

Just a few metres from the beach at Instow, it won’t take you long to feel right at home in this seaside villa.

The open-plan setup is ideal for spending quality time with friends or family, whether cooking up a storm in the kitchen, sinking into the sofas or enjoying nibbles and drinks together.
