It's not a trip to Puglia without a stay in a trullo house, and this is a gorgeous one. Located in the rolling countryside, within easy reach of some of the area's historic towns, it's a great place to begin your Italian adventures. 

The traditional stone building has plenty of original touches – you'll love the conical roofs and decorative fireplace that provides a rustic charm. When you get hungry, you can head to the kitchen and cook up your favourite pasta dishes using fresh local ingredients. And, there's no better place to serve up your culinary creations than outside on the patio, as you breathe in the fresh air and admire the lush greenery surrounding you. 

When you fancy a day trip, there are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. The magnificent white city of Ostuni is around twenty minutes away by car, where you can stroll through the labyrinthine old quarter. The hilltop town of Martina Franca is around twenty-five minutes away, and if you fancy a day at the beach then you can drive to the coast in just over half an hour.

Hidden away in a quiet spot in Lecce's old town, this home is a lot more contemporary than its location would imply. There's a minimalist streak to the living quarters, with stark white walls lending an innate brightness and the kitchen full of clean lines and sleek surfaces.

You'll notice that there are a few historic touches in the outdoor space, however. The patio is surrounded by walls made of golden stone typical of the region and made all the more pretty with the presence of overhanging branches that lend a little privacy. If it's too cold to sit in the open air, there's also a roofed terrace that's just as relaxing in our books.

If sightseeing is high up on your list during your stay, you'll be happy to learn that the Basilica of Santa Croce and the Roman amphitheatre both lie around the corner from the apartment. It won't take you too long to reach the beach at San Cataldo in the car, either.

You'll find this ground-floor apartment in the historic heart of Lecce. All the must-haves and must-sees are within strolling distance here – Piazza Mazzini is five minutes away, Castello Carlo is walkable in ten, and countless bars, restaurants, and shops are nearby. Though the apartment lacks a living area, it's a good option for those keen to spend all their time exploring. Some rooms lack natural light, but there's a private patio where you can enjoy a glass of local wine. All three bedrooms are comfortable, and two have desks for remote workers – just note that the single is accessed through bedroom two.

Between the olive groves of the Puglian countryside, this villa is a lesson in minimalism and sleek design. An inviting private pool is at the centre of the outdoor space and the dining terrace (with a charcoal barbecue) looks out over ancient olive trees. Accommodation is split between the main building, where you’ll find one of the bedrooms and the sparse living area, kept cool by white stone walls. One of the bedrooms is in its own lamia building and a further bedroom is in the annexe with garden access. It’s a short drive to Ostuni for days wandering the ancient streets, and Brindisi is a short hop in the car.

And with an abundance of living space alongside seven bedrooms (each with its own bathroom), this is the perfect setting for an intimate celebration or a restorative retreat – one that’s filled with style, elegance and rustic charm. 

Wake up early and enjoy mesmerising views across the Itria valley from the balcony, take a dip in the pool, spend lazy afternoons on a sun lounger and gather for golden hour drinks on the terrace. Your host can also arrange a private chef to prepare a delicious Italian-inspired feast – inviting you to sit back and soak up the beauty of this unique location. 

For explorations beyond this peaceful sanctuary, days can be spent strolling the ancient narrow streets of Ostuni and Cisternino, or exploring the beaches nestled along the coast – just a twenty-minute drive away.

Hidden amongst olive trees, this villa is a great base for a Puglia adventure. The outdoor spaces stand out here – the private pool is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, while the alfresco dining area and outdoor kitchen mean you'll rarely need to venture inside. The interior is pleasant, though it lacks natural light in places. And while we loved the exposed brickwork in the living area, one of the beds is here – this might prove inconvenient and makes the home more suitable for families in our eyes. Location-wise, you're well served, because not only is the coast not far away, the charming city of Ostuni is just a 3km drive.

Showcasing original architectural features like thatched rooves and exposed stonework, this traditional trullo-style home offers a unique experience that can only be had in Puglia. The garden is large and fully fenced, with a playground and trampoline to keep the little ones happy. For the grown-ups, there are three dining verandas, a swimming pool and plenty of space to relax. The house itself is made up of several separate trulli, making it ideal for large groups as you can have a little privacy when needed. Set within a park of olive trees, it’s safe to say that the location is remote, so we’d recommend renting a car to get around (the freeway is just nine kilometres away).

Vaulted ceilings and original tiles underfoot are a nod to this 18th-century home’s former glory, and keep things naturally cool inside. Each bedroom has its own style and there’s a dedicated office room for those working remotely. But it’s the outdoor space that captivated us, with a big swimming pool carved from local stone and loads of comfortable places to catch the sun (or laze in the shade) on patios and terraces. This villa is in the centre of Diso, a historical Salento village two kilometres from the sea with a small shop and cafes within walking distance.

From the sensory delights of the garden (lined with olive and myrtle trees) to the rustic stone and traditional features, you’ll find yourself transported to an immersive Italian escape – one that’s rich in life’s simple (and indulgent) pleasures. 

Experience a wonderful sense of wellbeing whilst soaking in the jacuzzi, admire the sweeping views from the pool and spend lazy afternoons reading in the shade. From here, you’ll find it’s just a short (downhill) walk to the seafront and the nearest beach, while the pretty coastal towns of Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca are both within easy driving distance.   

By evening, the garden beckons you to enjoy unforgettable sunset views with refreshing drinks in hand, while the pergola provides the perfect spot for delicious Italian meals.

This villa sits just above Puglia’s coast, with a view out over the sea from the suntrap of a rooftop terrace, lounger-strewn lawn and from the cooling water of the private pool. What’s more, steps lead directly from the garden to a swim platform on the Ionian Sea and there’s beach club next door – just remember it’s a steep way down, so it’s steep back up again. It’s fairly minimalist inside, keeping things breezy and cool (just what you want in the Puglian heat). The kitchen is on the rustic side. Bedrooms are simple and comfortable, and they all face the sea.
