Just take in the wonderful views of the Adriatic Sea and olive groves from the roof terrace of this home in Puglia. There’s plenty of character inside with its vaulted ceilings and stone steps (these are quite steep, mind). The location here is great, you’ll find a bakery 200 metres away, so that’s breakfast and lunch covered, while there’s a museum 500 metres from here. There’s also the Zagaredde antique market every second Sunday of the month, 900 metres from this home.

This ancient, light-stone property in Ostuni offers big groups exclusive use of a B&B in the centre of town. A breakfast buffet is included every day – best enjoyed at the scattering of tables on the sunny terrace – and guests have private use of the small, heated spa pool. There is plenty of space to dine, but the kitchen is set up as a B&B counter and there isn’t a dedicated living room. Bedrooms are all suites and some have their own seating areas and mini bars. Those who appreciate a little more privacy can bag one of the bedrooms that has direct street access.

Located in a sixteenth-century building in the heart of Ostuni, this functional apartment makes a great base for exploring the historic town. We were big fans of the small industrial kitchenette, while the stone walls and arching brick ceilings speak to the building's history. The living area only being accessible by a ladder isn't exactly convenient, but luckily you'll find plenty of shared spaces within the building – perfect if you're looking to mingle with your fellow guests. And the communal bath area strikes us as ideal for unwinding after a day traversing Ostuni's winding streets.

This cosy studio apartment is in a 16th-century mansion renovated into apartments. The charm and history of the home have been retained – you can even visit the original chapel, and the coat of arms of one of the first families to own the home can be seen on the front door. Inside, space is limited, and the sleeping arrangements aren’t the most comfortable or private – we think this is best suited to one adult and one child sharing. You will have access to the shared lounge and relaxation area though, giving you a bit more room to spread out.

We love that you are immersed in the building's history  – well-maintained stone walls abound here. While the home can sleep three, we think it's better suited to families, as all the guests are sleeping in the same room. In the communal areas, you'll find spots to read and chat, along with the interior courtyard and bath area. When it's time to explore, you'll find Ostuni town centre a short stroll away.

Part of a restored mansion dating back to the 16th century, this apartment is a classy and convenient base in Ostuni. You’ll benefit from communal facilities including a dreamy relaxation area, a lounge and an ancient chapel, which makes up for the petite size of the apartment. One guest will be sleeping on a sofa bed which is on the smaller side so may be better for children – we think two adults at most could stay here comfortably.

You won't find much parking here, and the kitchen is certainly on the smaller side. But you'll have plenty of local shops and fantastic restaurants on your doorstep, so you won't miss out on much without a car. The apartment building also has a number of cosy communal spaces, including a lounge and an indoor spa bath.

A ten-minute drive from Ostuni, this villa offers a dreamy escape in Puglia. The garden was designed to take advantage of the sunshine. You can work out in the outdoor gym, cool off with a dip in the pool, or tuck into an Italian feast on the terrace. Inside, the ivory hues and natural accents fit in perfectly with Puglia's white-washed towns. Our favourite space is the main bedroom, where a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi bath is the perfect way to end the day. Just note that two bedrooms don't have air conditioning.

Hidden amongst olive trees, this villa is a great base for a Puglia adventure. The outdoor spaces stand out here – the private pool is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, while the alfresco dining area and outdoor kitchen mean you'll rarely need to venture inside. The interior is pleasant, though it lacks natural light in places. And while we loved the exposed brickwork in the living area, one of the beds is here – this might prove inconvenient and makes the home more suitable for families in our eyes. Location-wise, you're well served, because not only is the coast not far away, the charming city of Ostuni is just a 3km drive.

Set in colourful gardens, edged with mellow stone walls, this trullo is a wonderful place to relax. There's a swimming pool, a barbecue for tasty lunches and a shaded dining area. Inside, there's character aplenty, including exposed stone arches and an open fire. We love that both bedrooms open out onto the terrace, so there shouldn't be any quarrels about who has which room (though one has the advantage, it has an en-suite – maybe keep that quiet). When you're ready to explore what the local area offers, head to Ostuni, just 5 kilometres away. Your host also offers a complimentary guided tour of Alberobello (though it's quite a ride from this home).

The white, slatted awning of your shaded terrace juts out to the private pool, lined by a honey-coloured drystone wall and a Buddhist statue (ensuring that extra sense of zen).

From this angle, the home looks superbly modern and angular. But from the side, you'll see the trullo at its heart has been given a new lease of life thanks to clever architecture. It’s more apparent in the lounge, where the beautiful stonework remains exposed with rounded archways and alcoves leading off this peaceful space. We love the mix of modern, minimalist furniture with the traditional build – it really lets the home do the talking.
