Situated in Lecce's hamlet of Salignano, this villa boasts a heated private pool and a lovely garden with space for sitting out in the sunshine or dining in the shade. The decor here is quite traditional and perhaps won't be to everyone's taste, but we think the location is great. The ancient Heroon Centopietre, an enigmatic tomb of the noble hero Gimignano, is a short walk away, while the Ionian Sea is easily reached by car, whether you head west to the Marina di San Gregorio beach or east to Il Ciolo.

This wonderful villa is located in the highest part of San Gregorio in the countryside of Patù. It’s less than 2 kilometres from the Bay of San Gregorio, known for its beautiful sunsets and the beach of Marina di Felloniche. We love the garden and its centuries-old olive trees, and the views of the countryside and sea are glorious. There are two porches to enjoy, with an outdoor seating area and a barbecue for family feasts under the stars. The villa itself is a simple space with rustic style and modern comforts – it’s an excellent base for a relaxing Italian break.

This home is wholesome and luxurious in equal measure. A traditional Salento home with low stone walls, we love the natural, cave-like vibe. Meanwhile, the private pool just happens to have to-die-for sea views. Inside, expect more of that soothing stone – combined with a modern, white colour scheme and cool tiled floors. Comprised of one main building and two other units, this home is perfect if your group don't fancy living right on top of each other. The sleek kitchen comes with everything you could need for a comfortable stay, and out on the terrace, there's a wonderful shaded eating space with a built-in barbecue. While we weren't enamoured with the interior, what with its tired-looking furniture and bare bedrooms, it's functional – and we don't think you're coming to be indoors all day, anyway. While there's no pool, the garden has a few nice spots to relax and dine, and you're just a short drive from the centre of town. Just beyond that is the gorgeous coast – perfect for a midday swim in the ocean.

Inside, it is just as charming – the traditional Italian floor tiling is a masterpiece in itself. Coupled with white-wash walls and stone ceilings, there are elements that will make you think of a grand cathedral. Cool and comfortable, the bedrooms are a lovely peaceful sanctuary from the daytime sun. We love how there is a gentle nod to contemporary style with backlighting on some stunning antique features.
 
On your doorstep, you will be greeted by many restaurants. Follow the smell of garlic and a large bowl of pasta, with a bottle of chilled wine, will await. This villa sits just above Puglia’s coast, with a view out over the sea from the suntrap of a rooftop terrace, lounger-strewn lawn and from the cooling water of the private pool. What’s more, steps lead directly from the garden to a swim platform on the Ionian Sea and there’s beach club next door – just remember it’s a steep way down, so it’s steep back up again.
