Formerly owned by the acclaimed writer Matilde Serao and visited by a catalogue of famous guests, this stylish home captivates you from the first moment you arrive. 

We instantly fell in love with the colourful outdoor space – it's an oasis of pure, natural beauty. A huge cushioned seating area is tailor-made for nights sharing wine, snacks and stories whilst looking out across the ocean. 

For more intimate dining, a cute dining table rests under the pergola, a wooden table is sheltered under an umbrella and a small, blue table rests close to the sea. There are so many idyllic social spots in the villa, it's hard to know which one to choose.

Before you sit down for dinner, make sure to explore the lush, green expanse of the garden. Bright flowers punctuate the verdant grass, which leads to the gorgeous heart-shaped pool in the middle. It's really one of the most beautiful outdoor areas we've ever seen.

Not that you'd ever wish to leave, but if you did fancy an adventure, you're moments from the waterfront. Wander down to the seaport in just fifteen minutes and you'll reach the nexus of bars, restaurants and cafes on the water.

Dating back to the early 1900s, you can see the turn-of-the-century architecture in the stone steps between terraces and wooden-shuttered windows. It’s a veritable playground for those that seek relaxation in the terraced gardens, where succulents fill the perfectly positioned flower beds. Spend days floating in the sleek, modern swimming pool with its integrated Jacuzzi. Lunch can be taken at the round table on the lower terrace, while dinner can be set up on the upper terrace at the more formal spot. Sun loungers are shaded by parasols and there are two hanging egg chairs for reading in the sun. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the sea with the Pontine islands floating in the deep blue.

Inside, it’s an ode to grandeur as rooms are filled with gallery-worthy sculptures and striking paintings. Art deco chandeliers in the luxe living room hark back to the villa’s origins and you can take in that sea view from the comfort of plush sofas. Parquet flooring intersects with the original salvaged mosaic. We love the light-filled kitchen with its green splashes of trailing botanica. Or, perhaps, the original vaulted ceiling in the basement bedroom with its baby grand piano in the corner. 

Location-wise, you’re in the coastal town of Circeo where a long stretch of beach is just a short walk away. In the other direction, the ancient, walled centre of town awaits with a handful of local trattoria in the shambling streets.

Charming 17th century arches and columns frame a picture-perfect view of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Brew a fresh pot of coffee and head to the balcony to catch a sunrise – believe us when we say it's worth the early start. 

After a leisurely morning, head off to explore the town. A less beaten path than its neighbouring town of Positano, this is the place to be if you're looking for authentic Italian appeal. If you're seeking out some of the Amalfi Coast's best nature spots, make sure you add a hike on the 'Path of the Gods' to your itinerary, considered by many to be the best hiking trail in the area thanks to sweeping mountain views of the Mediterranean.

After a day of exploring, head home to relax in the outdoor hot tub, before indulging in a laid-back dinner cooked on the barbecue.

Cultivate paradise at this gorgeous villa, with its vegetable garden, surrounding olive grove and citrus fruit orchard. Made up of four buildings – a main house and three cottages – there's more than enough space for large groups, whether you're exploring the gardens or splashing about in the pool. Two of the cottages are on a single level for guests with reduced mobility, and while the decor may be a little dated, it's certainly grandiose. The nearby town of Forio and its beach are both walkable – you might want a car to explore the rest of Ischia island, though.

Spread across three levels, there’s plenty of space for a large family or group of friends to spread out and enjoy some private time here. That said, with the multitude of sun-drenched terraces and cosy alfresco dining spots, we’re sure the outdoor space will be a hit with all. Locally, Nerano Bay is a short walk away if you fancy a splash in the sea, and the nearby town of Massa Lubrense is well worth a visit for some authentic cuisine.

When you think of Positano, you imagine the incredible views. You may have seen the Instagram posts about everyone trying to find the perfect view for sunset. Well, they're wasting their time – the best view in the city comes from the gorgeous terrace of your villa. But unlike the other popular spots, this view is reserved solely for you. 

Whether you're enjoying your morning coffee on the dining table or lounging on the sun beds, you're perfectly placed to admire the colourful houses and blue stretch of the sea. Of course, the best views are when the orange hues of sunset blend into the deep blue shades of the water. 

If you wander inside the villa, you'll find whitewashed tones and a neutral colour palette. Splashes of bright art is dotted around the villa, lacing the interior with a cheery, upbeat vibe.

When you fancy stretching your legs, you're only three minutes away from the beach. Small and cosy, it's an idyllic spot to lay your towel and catch some gentle rays of the sun. 

Please do note - to access the villa it is necessary to climb approximately 80 steps, however for a home like this it's certainly worth it.

Found in the west of Praiano where it lies about twenty minutes away from the bright orange umbrellas of One Fire Beach, this villa has a magnificent view out over the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Climb the steps up towards the villa and find a modern and comfortable home that boasts plenty of natural light, a crisp colour palette, and a beautiful collection of carefully selected tiles for a bit of a colour pop. There’s also a boho feel thanks to the warm, woody furniture and ample windows that keep that connection to the outdoors firmly in place. 

Go from your bedroom into the garden in moments as you escape through the doors – if you’re on the first floor, you’ll have an entire balcony to yourself and we recommend waking up before dawn, at least once, so you can watch the sunset from up there. Spend as much time as possible outdoors, swimming in the private pool, sunbathing in the sunloungers and enjoying snacks and drinks as you admire the view. 

When you’re not taking sunny days easy at home, you can spend them at any one of the beaches you’ll come across as you explore the coast, or find a tucked-away restaurant in Praiano.

In the sun-soaked village of Positano, this studio apartment is a peaceful idyll within walking distance of the lively shores of Positano Beach. Inside, it’s all crisp white and cobalt blue. Unwind on the loveseat with a cappuccino, basking in a salty breeze that drifts through the Juliet balcony doors. Put together a Caprese salad at the kitchenette then tuck in at the dining table. When you’re ready to explore, slather on your sunscreen and take a gentle stroll through the pastel-hued streets. 

Pick up trinkets in artisanal shops or laze in a seaside cafe. If your itinerary allows for it, take a trip over to charming Montepertuso and embark on one of many hiking routes. Return home in the early evening to watch dusk fall over the shambling rooftops with a tot of limoncello in hand. And when it’s time to get some sleep, the comfortable double bed tempts an early night.

You’re at the gateway to the stunning Amalfi Coast with a stay at this smart bolthole set in Sant'Agnello, a charming neighbourhood fringing Sorrento. Perched just two hundred metres from the lift leading down to the glorious sandy shores of Marinella Beach, a fifteen-minute walk from the centre of Sorrento, and with quick connections to legendary Pompeii and Capri, you couldn’t dream up a better location. And you could never go hungry here, with Nonna-esque pizzerias and traditional trattorias for the freshest seafood imaginable just fifty metres from your door.

Back home, those dazzling views of lofty palms and the distant sea first caught our eye at this apartment set in a handsome period building. Designed to make the most of the panoramas from all angles, the impressive balcony linking the living room and one of the bedrooms is the spot to drink up the vistas (preferably with a glass of chilled Campanian wine in hand). But if the weather doesn’t buck up, curl up with freshly brewed coffees inside on the sofa and drink up the landscapes through the picture windows instead – it’s just as inviting.

Within walking distance of Sorrento’s waterside restaurants, bustling piazzas and independent shops, this villa is ideally placed for a memorable holiday in southern Italy. In the garden, you’ll find a dining area for enjoying homemade dishes seasoned with lemons from the grove. Granted, there isn’t a swimming pool here, but La Marinella Beach is less than a fifteen-minute walk away. Inside, it’s bright, well-appointed and comfortable. Completely overhauled in 2021, your hosts have paid close attention to every detail to create an island escape that speaks to the soul. Hand-picked artwork, a well-equipped compact kitchen and two king-size en-suite bedrooms make this an ideal option for a family break, or a getaway with friends.

However, it's the outdoor terrace that steals the limelight. Shared between the apartment's two suites, there's more than enough space for everyone to spread out and claim a corner for themselves. With outdoor dining space, sun loungers and parasols, the scene is set for relaxing alfresco breakfasts, lazy days soaking up some sun, and romantic evening meals with the harbour lights twinkling away below.

Capri Town is only accessible on foot, with plenty of upmarket boutiques and mouthwatering restaurants within a short stroll. For an entirely different perspective on island life, we'd recommend taking to the water for a gentle cruise along its coast, passing secluded coves and the yawning mouths of sea caves.

With an absolutely breathtaking view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, this ancient villa couldn’t really be more of a complete package if it tried. Not only does waking up to the panoramic horizon inspire a great sense of relaxation, but the villa itself is pretty with its curving arches and many textures. 

Given its age, the home has seen its share of modernisation, but it has always been done in the most loving and sympathetic way to retain the original charm, and that character is certainly still visible. Picture yourself tucked away on the sofa with a good book, or at the dining table – with the doors flung open – as you catch up on the news with your morning cuppa. 

The only thing better than unwinding inside the home would be doing so outside. With plenty of space to sit, or sprawl out on the sunloungers, if you’d like, you can make yourself comfortable as you admire the glittering blue on the horizon. Take a dip in the plunge pool, dine alfresco, and watch the sunset with an evening cocktail. 

As two bedrooms can only be accessed via the garden, it sets large groups up perfectly so you can retain a sense of privacy but come together in the beautiful, and ample, breakout spaces.

We adore how the open-plan layout is designed for spending quality time with your loved ones. Over your morning coffee, nibble on frittatas while making plans at this dining table. Ideal for remote working, get your head down at the bedroom desk before slipping out onto this sun-kissed balcony. Be sure to raise a glass of local wine to a happy holiday after a busy day of sightseeing.

This home is on the third floor with no lift, but your host can help you with your luggage. The address is fantastic – this apartment is in one of the most exclusive areas on the Sorrento Coast. There are bars and restaurants on your doorstep or explore the city of Sorrento, a short walk or ride away.

A Rare Moment 

Peering over the Amalfi Coast, this postcard-worthy villa is the perfect Positano escape. With three terraces to choose from, you’ll start your day deliberating where to take breakfast – will it be at the bistro set under the magenta sprays of bougainvillaea or perhaps you’ll dine in the shade by the abundant lemon tree? Afternoons are for doing very little – lazing on a lounger with an ice-cold drink in hand, watching the boats bob on the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea.

Yellow patterned tiles are a counterpoint to the pristine white walls and we loved the homely feel of the antique cherry wood furniture. The bedrooms are comfortable and cheery and the brightly coloured bathrooms are sure to put a pep in your step in the mornings. 

When you’re ready to explore, Positano Beach is just a short walk from your doorstep and you’re within touching distance of restaurants, bars and independent shops. After a slap-up seafood dinner by the water, return to your abode to watch the sky swirl in pinks and purples as you sip an Aperol spritz.

A twenty-minute stroll from the intimate cove of Marina di Praia, this pink villa has plenty of traditional charm to make you fall in love with Praiano. Right on your doorstep, you'll discover a trio of bars and restaurants serving excellent refreshments. For history lovers, we recommend visiting the 12th-century Church of San Luca Evangelista, which houses paintings by Giovanni Bernardo Lama.

From the moment you arrive, you'll be taken by the brick fireplace and arched ceilings inside this ancient farmhouse. Roll out of bed each morning feeling refreshed and step out onto your balcony, where you'll be met with spectacular sea views. Share a breakfast of ricotta pancakes with your loved ones and plan an outing around this dining table, then head out on the Amalfi Coast. When you return, open up a bottle of Italian wine and unwind in your private hot tub. Perhaps you'll want to keep things easy with a barbecue picnic on the lawn while the sun sets.

Now, this is what we call a view. Perched above the Gulf of Salerno, this villa offers breathtaking scenery everywhere you look. Our favourite spot is the terrace, where a glass of wine complements the panoramas perfectly. There's also a private Jacuzzi that makes soaking under the stars a real treat. The interior design is simple but chic, though the main bedroom doesn't feel particularly private. And, while the kitchen is on the smaller side, you'll only be a five-minute walk from the eateries in Amalfi. That's pretty hard to beat.

Nestled within a lemon orchard, this stunning villa is practically hanging off the side of the Amalfi Coast. On the villa’s stepped terraces, the citrus scent of fresh lemons combines with sea salt as you enjoy uninterrupted views over the azure Tyrrhenian Sea. Walkways shaded by twisting grapevines, magenta bougainvillaea and wisteria bursting in purple clouds give way to panoramic views. You’ll find endless secluded spots for dining outdoors, or lounging in the sun. Inside, we were really taken by the hand-painted tiles in every room, bursting with blues, yellows and greens, and the hand-painted details like the decal in the shower, that feel distinctly Amalfi. Rather than facing the TV, the living room’s sofa points directly at the French windows and that incredible sea view and both main bedrooms have their own French windows for a view all to yourself. From the villa, it’s a short walk to the beach at the bottom of Maiori. Here, you can join the coastal walking path that links all the quintessentially Amalfi Coast villages. Or, head out in the car to the town of Amalfi, a fifteen-minute drive away.

Deep blues, sunshiney yellows – how can you not think of the sea when you see these shades? Taking inspiration from Sorrento's nearby harbour and rocky beach, the design of this second-floor apartment is as bright and cheery as the surrounding neighbourhood. There's no doubt it's stylish, but it's also packed with modern amenities that make your stay a dream, from rainfall showers to a kitchen where you'll love rustling up Italian feasts. We adore the quirky touches here, too – our favourite is the stone wall in the shower, which uses the rocky facade of the mountain. 

Did we mention the two sun-kissed balconies? Both offer excellent spots to breathe in the coastal breezes and bask in Sorrento's good weather. Whether you're dining alfresco under the shady parasol or sharing a bottle of Italian wine on the outdoor sofas, this is the place to sit back, relax and fall in love with Sorrento.

Location-wise, you can't do much better. Beaches, eateries and shops are all just steps away. Take a stroll along the postcard-pretty marina in the mornings, followed by lunch at a waterfront restaurant. Do some sightseeing in the historic centre in the afternoons, including a wander around Piazza Tasso and a stop off at the Cattedrale dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo. You're also about an hour or so drive from Naples and Pompeii – perfect for day trips.

Should you fancy a day at the beach, Spiaggia La Marinella, with its clear Tyrrhenian waters, is within walking distance of your doorstep.

Positano is one of the most beautiful towns to be found along the Amalfi Coast and if you don't believe us, stepping out onto the balcony of this hillside home and gazing out at the gorgeous view of the locale below and the Tyrrhenian Sea stretching on into the distance will change your mind.

As well as this impressive outdoor space, you might just find that you're charmed by the living quarters as well. There's something about the whitewashed walls and patterned tiling that's instantly bright and welcoming, as is the addition of a few pieces of nautically-inspired artwork and quirky decorative items. The kitchen might not be the largest, but there's enough space for whipping up modest meals and the coastal view out through the window will please those on cooking duties.

When it comes to making some holiday memories, both Grande and Fornillo beaches are 650 metres from the home, and there's a good selection of restaurants even closer. In the wider area, you'll find mountains to hike along with some truly breathtaking views to act as a reward.

The views over the Amalfi Coast from this home’s infinity pool and whirlpool are incredible. There are a variety of terraces for relaxing and alfresco dining, while inside this place, dating from the 15th century, there’s a traditional feel with beams and handmade tiles. There's an open fire in the living room for cooler evenings and all of the bedrooms are en-suite (two also have a private terrace). Situated in the oldest part of Amalfi, it’s just a short walk down the steps to the centre of the town or you can take one of two public lifts.
