What a Pitti

We were sold on this Florentine apartment's private terrace alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the lofted living space. While both double bedrooms are charming, the last guest will have to make do with a sofa bed in the lounge, which is overlooked by the loft bedroom balcony above. So, while it's an impressive feature, it's not the most private space. Set in the characterful Santa Croce district, you're set back from the tourist traps immediately around the Duomo yet within easy walking distance of the must-see sights. Get off to a flying start at Piazza Santa Croce – it's just around the corner.

Looking for a characterful bolthole in the historic heart of Tuscany’s capital? This quintessential Florentine apartment should do nicely, set just two minutes from Piazza Santa Maria Novella and five from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. While the interiors are utterly charming, a home of this heritage does have its quirks. Expect to climb stairs to reach the third floor and a mezzanine space accessed via a small ladder that is unsuitable for young children. It’s also worth noting there's a double sofa bed here and only room for two around the kitchen table. However, there’s heaps of space to spill out in the main living room with those high ceilings and views of the piazza below.

The Music of Florence 

Found in the breathtaking city of Florence, this home also captures beauty in an understated way. With exposed beams, a neutral colour palette that works perfectly alongside the gold elements, and a touch of rustic, this home feels welcoming and cosy.

They’re kept in fantastic condition, but the decoration feels a little impersonal, and you’d struggle to cook a dinner party in that kitchen. Still, you aren’t exactly short of things to do and places to eat in the area.

It’s worth noting, at full occupancy, the last two guests will have to make do with a single bed and pull-out bed in the cosy fourth bedroom. Fine for a short stay or children sharing – but it might not float everyone’s boat.

You’re in the centre of all things cultural and Florentine at this bijou apartment. It’s less than a ten-minute walk to the Galleria Accademia and museums of San Marco, and a fifteen-minute stroll sees you in the beating heart of the city – the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. In eight minutes you can be stocking up on fresh, local produce at Florence’s Central Market to take back to your cute little apartment.

The full kitchen has everything you need to whip up breakfast, lunch and dinner and an island in the centre provides plenty of prep space. The atmosphere inside feels almost church-like, with vaulted ceilings, smooth walls and detailed cornicing a la the 18th century. Faded frescos add to the old-world theme, but the furniture is distinctly 21st-century comfort. It’s the ideal spot for a historic city break. 

Vaulted Hideaway

Around the corner from Ponte Santa Trinità, Chimney Sweep is in a great location for seeing the centre of Florence. Despite being set over three levels, it’s quite small, but while the kitchen is a little underwhelming, the rest of the house feels pleasantly cosy. Unusually, one of our favourite parts of the home is the single room. What used to be an enormous stone fireplace has been converted into a writing nook, and it feels like a wonderful place to set up shop with a laptop and get to work on your novel.


Chimney Sweep

This elegant apartment is the perfect place to stay in Florence. It’s stylish yet comfortable, housed in a stately building just outside of the historic centre of the city. The apartment has been recently renovated – it’s a beautiful home from home with a grandeur that’s fitting for a city as stunning as Firenze. 

The vaulted ceilings with frescoes will make you feel as though you’re staying in one of the grand palazzos of days gone by. Huge windows keep the apartment bright and airy, and modern furnishings mean that although it feels historic, everything you need is right at your fingertips. 

In the morning, stroll eight minutes to Giardino della Fortezza to begin your day with a moment of calm. Sip coffee and eat a pastry or two while you plan how you’ll spend your stay. Perhaps you’ll walk first to the Duomo to admire the architecture of the cathedral – it takes fourteen minutes. In the afternoon, after you’ve taken in a museum or a gallery, you might like to hop in a cab to Piazzale Michelangelo. It takes fifteen minutes to get arguably the best view of the city. 

Head back to the apartment to sip a glass of Chianti and relax. Sink into the sofa as you deliberate dinner – will it be pizza or pasta?

Staying in this elegant apartment, you get to experience the Florence of the past. Step through the grand foyer and you’ll immediately be taken by the timeless glamour of the home, which is decorated with antique furniture dating back to the 1600s and 1700s. The home is comfortable and well-equipped, but the star of the show here is the garden. Pass through the French doors of the living room and kitchen and spend hours relaxing amid lemon trees and pretty greenery. What you might have to worry about is how to get all the souvenirs you’ll undoubtedly buy while staying in this enticing retail district into your suitcase. Or which wine to serve with the delicious pasta dish you're serving your friends from the well-equipped kitchen. Decorated in neutral tones and with hints of history in the original brickwork, this is a serene place to return after you’ve just popped out to some of the world famous landmarks that are right on your doorstep. 

Hello Duomo

Blessed with a truly wonderful location in the centre of Florence, this apartment knows it can't compete with the illustrious architecture and artworks that lie nearby, so keeps it comparatively simple.

That being said, there's very little to pick fault with inside. The wood floors, neutral colour scheme and bold pieces of modern artwork all lend a contemporary edge, while the high ceilings and wooden beams are the only nods to the city's long history. Admittedly, the kitchen leans more on the space-efficient side, although this won't be a problem if you're hoping to get acquainted with the local culinary tradition.

As well as plenty of restaurants within walking distance, the immediate area is similarly lavish when it comes to galleries, with both Palazzo Strozzi and Museo Novecento taking less than five minutes to reach on foot. The famous Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore is only an eight-minute walk, too.
