Though the kitchenette is only equipped for light bites, this space offers all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Though you may need to climb some stairs to reach this pad, once you're up, you can drop your bags, sit back on the Wassily chair and sip a Campari spritz.

It was immediately apparent that the comfort of the guests was what they cared about most, and that manifested itself in their professionalism and also the excellent condition they keep the flat in. The place itself isn’t a particular champion of design, but it’s convenient and pretty good value.

This bijou apartment feels very hi-tech. All the electrics are controlled through a single system, with a few highlights like the sensor-controlled lights and superfast Wifi – all of this in a pretty building from the 1920s. Patches of exposed brickwork inside lend an industrial-chic feel and the wooden ceiling is a nod to the past. Furnishings are understated and neutral-toned, allowing a mellow feel. You've got plenty of space in the bedroom, especially when you open up the door to the little balcony.

You're in central Milan here, a twenty-minute walk from the central station (and central market just outside it). It's also a twenty-five-minute walk to the historic sights of the Duomo and Teatro alla Scala. Or, you could hop on the metro at Porta Venezia just outside your door.

Big windows, white walls and wooden furniture characterise Hispaniola’s style. It has quite a lot of stuff, most of it quite rustic – there’s a fair amount of wicker and carved wood. The kitchen does feel a bit out of place, though it’s perfectly well equipped. The rest of the flat just has a coherent theme and the blue walls don’t really fit that. You do, however, get access to the communal pool and gym – the former is particularly fancy (though better suited to relaxing than to swimming lengths.

Nocellara is on the eighth floor, so as you might imagine, the terrace has quite the view across the city. The big French windows also let lots of light in, and it’s too high for shadows from other buildings to interfere. The scarce decoration does hold the place back a bit – there are definitely more eye-catching places to stay – but for longer stays, Nocellara is excellent value and has everything you need to be comfortable.

There’s no need to hire a car for a stay in this apartment in Milan’s old town – most of the must-see sights can be reached on foot and there’s a Metro station a minute’s walk away. Located on the top floor of a historical building, you’re away from the hustle and bustle of the streets below so it’s surprisingly quiet for a city centre pad. The minimalist decor here won’t be to everyone’s taste, but we love the mix of white walls and bold window frames. And the large roof terrace is the perfect place to enjoy an aperitivo before heading out for dinner at one of the many local restaurants.

This apartment is cosy and serene. It’s been decorated in calming hues that make it an attractive and comfortable home-from-home – it’s exactly the kind of space you want to return to after a busy day of sightseeing in Milan. The kitchen makes cooking at home a breeze, though you’ll also have plenty of bars, restaurants, and cafes nearby. You can stroll to Giardini Indro Montanelli in a few minutes, and for sights that are further afield, you need only hop on the Porta Venezia metro.

There’s an incredible amount of natural light in this chic, pared-back apartment that makes the whole space dazzle. With its floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides, the open-plan living area gives you privileged views across Milan’s rooftops and a living backdrop to admire from the comfort of the sofa or while enjoying a meal at the stylish round dining table. 

The two bedrooms, meanwhile, have a similarly modern aesthetic, with an en-suite main bedroom letting you wake up to more tall window views and a second bedroom equipped with a desk space should you need to catch up on work. 

You’ve also got access to a communal rooftop terrace – the ideal spot to take in sunset views of the Duomo di Milano over a celebratory Spritz before going out to sample the local restaurant scene. 

When it comes to sightseeing, you couldn’t ask for a more central location. The Duomo di Milano is a seven-minute walk away, the elegant ​​Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a five-minute stroll, the Teatro alla Scala is walkable in eight and the fashionable Quadrilatero della moda is four minutes away on foot.

We love the tiled details in the home too – especially in the green bathroom and behind the kitchenette – as well as the ornate copper fireplace in the master bedroom. Whether you’re gathering around the rustic dining table for dinner, sipping a cool glass of wine on the terrace or kicking back on the sofas with a good book, this home welcomes socialising and relaxation in spades. Outside of your home, the Giardini Indro Montanelli is just a ten-minute walk away, while the Duomo di Milano is just under thirty minutes from your door. The Milano Centrale Railway Station is also just ten minutes away on foot for allowing for easy exploration further afield.

A small place that punches above its weight, Colour Reversal has been well designed, and that makes a lot of difference. The way that the kitchen fits in with the living room works perfectly from an aesthetic standpoint, and while having the kitchen and the sofa bed in the same room isn’t ideal, we wouldn’t really recommend using that bed anyway. It’s always nice to have the option, however, so we won’t complain.

On the edge of Brera and Garibaldi, Artemis is wonderfully placed for both the nightlife that fills the area, and for getting to other parts of the city. The flat has a sense of individuality to it – the design is sophisticated, with lots of beautiful objects that elevate it beyond what you might reasonably expect from a place of its size. It’s all fairly valuable, so for that reason the host, Rita, would prefer to rent to adults, or at least not young children.

You'll find this contemporary apartment in buzzing Milan, but it takes design inspiration from all over the globe. The Scandi-style living room has hygge written all over it, making it perfect for relaxing or at-home working, and the Japanese bedroom is a characterful spot to end an exciting day exploring the city. Though it's snug, this apartment is super stylish – we loved the bright living area in particular, which has parquet flooring, quirky wall art and a sleek kitchen where you can whip up a tasty Italian feast. There's a real sense of peace here, which is a much-appreciated reprieve from the hustle and bustle nearby. You're not in central Milan, but this neighbourhood has its own charm and offers plenty of liveliness, with many bars, restaurants, cafes and gelaterias in walking distance. Plus, the famous Duomo is just a twenty-minute stroll away, so you're not far from the iconic sights.

What makes Colour Inversion special is hard to put your finger on, but that doesn’t mean it should be disregarded. Everything there is perfectly proportioned, so while it is a very small place (it can technically hold four people, but that would be a stretch), it never feels undersized. It’s also just off Corso Buenos Aires, one of the main shopping streets in the city and a lively spot in general.

Located just steps from Piazza San Babila and the iconic Milan Cathedral, this fuss-free apartment drops you into the heart of the city. Ideal as a base for families or friends, just bear in mind that at full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. There’s also no oven, but with a whole host of Italian eateries on your doorstep, who wants to be cooking anyway? Locally, you can reach plenty of sights on foot, or hop on the nearby metro for jaunts further afield.

Looking to stay right in the heart of Milan? We’ve found you just the right spot in town. Overlooking the beautiful church of San Giorgio al Palazzo and less than five-minutes away from the Duomo, lies this light-filled penthouse. Spread out across the top floor of an elegant building, the home is made for a family or a group of friends set on exploring the city.  We particularly loved the living spaces which make for easy socialising. The original marble fireplace and custom-made bookcases create the perfect setting to come together for a few pre-evening drinks. And surprisingly, for somewhere this central we found the apartment very quiet. It really is the perfect retreat within the hustle and bustle of Milan.

Just outside the city centre, a twenty-minute walk from the shopping streets of Via della Spiga and Corso Venezia, this stylish and sophisticated home is comfortable and homey, with a personality all of its own. Anything but ordinary, it's set in a traditional building and it's been styled with creativity and love.

Boasting a private balcony big enough to sit out on with your aperitivo, and a big wall of windows in the living room, it looks out over a green courtyard. Inside, you'll find high ceilings, a working fireplace, and a variety of designer furniture and vintage pieces. Mixed together with eclectic wall art and a library of books, it's a creative wonderland – and could be perfect if you'll be working remotely during your stay. There's a well-equipped kitchen, with its own tiny balcony, and two peaceful bedrooms – one of which can be used as an office or snug – plus typically classy Italian bathrooms. Best of all is the little extra touches that make this place feel like home. There's a Bluetooth sound system, weights, a yoga mat and plenty more.

Light and bright, there’s even a cosy balcony here – ideal for morning cappuccinos or evening aperitifs. Be prepared that if you’re a party of four, two people will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room here. Still, it’s a small price to pay for this home’s enviable location. Just a short distance away you’ll find Sempione Park, while historic Sforzesco Castle is a must-see in Milan.

Inside this stylish apartment, there’s a minimalist vibe and a well-equipped kitchen for creating some Milanese cuisine. Due to its great location, it's fair to say that you may hear some noise here. But all in all, we’d say this place is the ideal choice for both business travellers and tourists alike.

Soak up the bohemian vibe of Corso Garibaldi, just a short walk from this fuss-free apartment for four. The enviable central spot does mean there’s the potential for some street noise, but from the fourth floor, we don’t think it should cause too much bother and it’s a small price to pay for the convenience of your location. With many key sights within walking distance and Italian eateries and shops on your doorstep, you’ll be living like a local in no time. 

Garibaldi Gem

This light and bright apartment is an ideal base for up to four people on a Milan city break. Sure, at full occupancy, two guests will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed in the living room, but we think this home’s enviable location more than makes up for it. You’ll find Indro Montanelli Gardens just a short walk from the apartment, perfect for a morning stroll or jog, while many of Milan’s key attractions are within easy reach on foot or a short metro ride away.

A few steps from Colonne di San Lorenzo and the Basilica di San Lorenzo, this apartment puts you in one of Milan's coolest districts. The surrounding streets are dotted with vintage shops, laid-back trattorias and buzzing dive bars – though all the landmarks are within easy reach with a metro station and tram stops nearby. We love the sunlit living space – made even brighter by the yellow paint – as well as the two well-sized bedrooms. It's a lively area, and the apartment is above one of the neighbourhood's late-night spots. We think it's a better fit for guests who don't mind a bit of noise.

Bigger isn't always better, and at this stylish home in a particularly nice part of the Scalo di Porta Romana neighbourhood, you'll be enchanted by its clever use of space and chic minimalism. Set on the ground floor, and with a typically high ceiling creating a mezzanine floor for the bedroom, it's dazzlingly white, and filled with fascinating art and quirky furnishings.

The part-time home of a fine arts teacher, it's designed with simplicity and style in mind. We love the sofa made from a base of pallets, along with the comfy dining spot and the practical kitchen. And although the climb up to the bedroom is not for the faint of heart, it's a serene space, perfect for reading. 

Surrounded by shops, cafes and good restaurants, there's more than enough to enjoy on your doorstep. Fondazione Prada, home to a world-famous contemporary art collection is a ten-minute walk from your door. The building itself is a work of art, converted from a century-old distillery into a modern-day marvel. Even the café Bar Luce is something to behold, designed by renowned film director Wes Anderson. But all that said, if it's the big attractions of the city you're after, you're just a six-minute walk from Brenta metro station, and a seven minute walk from Lodi for an easy ride into the centre of town.

There are so many good things about Sailor’s Solace that it’s hard to know where to start. We adore the living room, a place that feels down-to-earth and yet special at the same time – especially when it fills with sunlight. It’s hard not to flop into the hammock as soon as you see it, and even harder to peel yourself away. At this unique home, it's tempting just to stay in, passing the evening on the terrace with a Campari for company.

But when in Milan, there's much to see. And here, you’re close enough to most of the major attractions to walk (and if you weren’t, there’s a station nearby). Start with the medieval Sforzesco Castle, just a ten-minute walk away. The 15th-century structure sits on an expanse of beautifully-manicured gardens – there's even an aquarium, ideal if you're travelling with children. 

From here, wind your way towards the Duomo, stopping for a coffee and cannoli somewhere along the way. The cathedral is like nothing else you've ever seen, constructed from elegant pink marble.

If you’re in search of a well-connected city stay, this apartment delivers a great solution. Located on Corso Garibaldi, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to cute Italian cafes, shops and restaurants. It’s also within easy reach of Parco Sempione and you’ll find the public transport ensures quick links with the rest of Milan. It’s worth noting the apartment is basic, but it’s ideal for couples or solo travellers with the handy addition of a sofa bed for one guest in the living room.

Set on the bustling Corso Garibaldi, Bumblebee is right in the heart of the evening action - you’ll soon get caught up in the crowds of Milanese setting out for their aperitivo. The apartment is a comfortable - if slightly functional - space, with a funky design and a nice mix of old and new. This would be a great place for those who are after an experience more akin to a hotel, as there are several other apartments from the same host in the building.

This is a delightful little apartment in the shadow of the Sforzesco Castle. The sprawling greenery of Sempione Park is right on your doorstep and the Duomo, Royal Palace and Teatro alla Scala are all within a fifteen-minute walk.
