Set amid the historical attractions of Palermo's historic centre, this apartment is a great choice for a solo traveller or couple ticking off the major sights. At capacity, two people will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living area – though at the expense of the communal seating, so we think the home is best suited for a maximum of two. Meanwhile, the terrace serves as a lovely spot for enjoying sundowners after a busy day of sightseeing. It's also worth noting that some street noise should be expected, due to the central location.

Explore the pretty city of Palermo from this central apartment, based just a stone's throw from the Church of Saint Domenico. The lounge features a lovely little balcony with seating, and each of the two bedrooms also has a Juliet balcony, so you can swing the doors wide open and let the fresh air in, and enjoy views of your lush and leafy surroundings. Positioned on the third floor of an 18th century building, this home has wonderful traditional features and two balconies overlooking Palermo. From here you can see the stretch of sea in front of the building that corresponds to the ancient port of the city, La Cala – great for evening drinks and delicious cuisine. You won’t be short of attractions around this home – a brisk walk will take you to the historic landmarks of Palermo Cathedral, Church of the Gesu and Teatro Massimo.

Inside, the sleek and contemporary touches really caught our eye, as well as the sociable chef's kitchen ideal for preparing lunches to be enjoyed out on the private terrace – equipped with comfy chairs and an outdoor dining area, it's a lovely spot for enjoying the warm Sicilian sunshine. You will have to climb about 76 steps to reach this apartment and there's a floating staircase without a railing, which won't suit everyone. When you're ready to explore, historical landmarks such as the Cathedral of Palermo are a short walk away, as well as plenty of traditional restaurants and wine bars.
