Much like its sister apartment in the same building, Green Jay has an air of nobility that surrounds it. Antique furniture, dark wooden windows, and tiled floors all combine to encapsulate the feeling of elegance, a feeling which is common in Flaminio. This isn’t the place to stay if you want to be in the very middle of the action, but you get a sense of calm and a detachment from the tourist crowds, which is more than worth the extra journey time.

Not far from the Vatican, this apartment is an excellent family option. Though the living area isn't the largest, there's plenty of space across the five bedrooms. The kitchen is well-stocked if you fancy a home-cooked meal, but for something extra special, your host is happy to arrange a private chef for a fee. You'll also have access to a small balcony ideal for enjoying morning espressos and sipping sundowners. Location-wise, shops and restaurants are a short walk away, as is the iconic St Peter's Square. The Flaminio quartiere sits in a bend of the River Tiber and lays claim to this classic Roman apartment. The interiors are 1930s inspired with vintage furnishings, rich dark wood accents and original terrazzo floors. After an industrious day exploring the Eternal City, we loved disappearing into what can only be described as a king-sized sofa, designed by Philippe Starck. Sip a cappuccino by the window overlooking the Monte Mario Observatory or take a seat at the dining table and enjoy a traditional cornetto. While you’re a fifteen-minute car ride to the centre of Rome, there’s plenty to do in your locale. In the summer, catch an outdoor movie at the Cinema Titian Roma, ten-minutes walk to the north, with the striking MAXXI contemporary art and architecture museum right next door. The manicured lawns of Villa Borghese are located twenty minutes south – perfect for picnics and afternoon strolls. Closer to home, you’ll find traditional wine bars and simple osterias along the tree-lined Viale del Vignola, just footsteps away.

It's the same walking distance to the boutiques in Via Cola di Rienzo, as well as the Trionfale Market with its food and flower stalls. If you want to explore some more of Rome's well-known attractions, take a twenty-minute stroll to Castel Sant'Angelo, with its rooftop views over the city. Back at this home – it's comfortable and well-designed, with a calming colour scheme that is just what you need after a hectic day exploring the city. From floors to ceilings, this apartment in central Rome maintains a sense of originality in its decor and finishes. It blends in with its historic surrounding – the bustling Piazza del Popolo with its pavement cafés and pop-up book markets is a three-minute walk, as is the beautiful Villa Borghese. If shopping is your thing, the Spanish Steps and Via del Corso are five minutes on foot. Large families or groups of friends will find this apartment to be an excellent home base. As soon as you step into the marble-floored hall you get a feeling of old-world Italy. The hall is dotted with antiques and moving through to the living and dining room it’s all floor to ceiling bookcases and herringbone floor. We particularly love the main bathroom, sleek in monotone black and white, yet embracing the vintage with its Singer sewing machine washstand and glorious oval tub.

Comfort reigns supreme in this bright and appealing apartment – it’s easy to imagine a family or group of friends feeling very at ease in this rustic home. While there's no bold design or styling, the sober colours and abundance of wood make for a very relaxing and breathable environment to return to after days spent sightseeing. We really loved the unsuspecting little touches around the flat too, such as the Japanese-style painted wardrobe doors and the reclaimed cabinet. You'll notice plenty of tasteful artwork adorning the walls also. Come together in the traditional dining area for a quick coffee, before setting off to complete your tourist itinerary. We were surprised by just how quiet it was here, despite being in the heart of Rome. Walk to the historic Spanish Steps in just fifteen minutes – from there, go shopping and limoncello-sipping around the bustling Piazza di Spagna. Ascend back up the steps to one of the city's most beloved sights, Trevi Fountain, under eight minutes on foot from your new home.

Roman Sunset is an elegant penthouse with a huge terrace and wonderfully expansive views. The clue is in the home's name - the terrace is a truly wonderful place to enjoy the sunset over the city. Roman Sunset is located in Flaminio - it's a lovely residential and well-connected neighbourhood but if you're keen to stay in the historical centre itself then you might want to look elsewhere. With its gorgeous views, abundant natural light, and calming colour scheme, this home is the perfect place to retreat to after a long day.

Part of the joy of visiting Rome is being in the thick of things – busy side-street eateries, crowds clamouring to see the sights, and dodging Vespas as you explore the city. This property is in the perfect location.

There are two apartments, making this ideal for groups of friends who want some space. The first is decorated with an eye-catching nod to Pop Art and street artists like Banksy, while the second taps into the romance of Rome with soft pastel shades and an elegant feel. 

You’re close enough to everything to explore on foot, but for those days when the heat is a little too much, you’ll be glad to be a three-minute walk from the Lepanto metro stop. You’re also in an area rife with restaurants, cafes and bars, so you don’t need to travel far for an exquisite meal or a chilled glass of wine. 

We like to start our day with a spot of people watching. Walk twelve minutes to Piazza del Popolo for a cappuccino with a view. From there, maybe you’ll tick off the Trevi Fountain – it’s fifteen minutes on the metro  – or meander the twenty-two minutes to the Spanish Steps. The Roman Forum is thirty-six minutes from the apartment – you’ll want to spend at least a couple of hours there, so pop into a trattoria for a pizza on the way. 

After a busy day in the bustling city, you’ll be glad to return to the apartment. Crack open a cold beer on the balcony in the late afternoon to soak up the atmosphere. After a brief respite, you’ll be ready to hit the town again.

The crowds of tourists are kept at a slight distance, across the river. This apartment can be found in Prati, a neighbourhood that’s favoured by the well-heeled locals. There are bars, restaurants and shops all within a stone’s throw of the apartment building, and the Lepanto metro station is a mere eight-minute walk away so when you’re ready to see the sights, it’s as easy as can be. 

Start your day by tucking into pastries and coffee on the terrace. There are glorious views of the Vatican, which is just a twenty-four-minute walk away. Watch the streets below come to life while you plan how you’ll spend your stay. After visiting the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica, perhaps you’ll stroll to Sant’Angelo Bridge – it’s nineteen minutes away. Decide which of the restaurants you pass you’ll return to for dinner, and definitely indulge in a scoop or two of gelato. 

Depending on your stamina, everything is within walking distance but in those peak summer months, you’ll be grateful for how easy it is to explore on the metro. The journey to the Pantheon takes twenty-one minutes. After a day spent touring around the historic sights, the apartment is a delightfully chilled-out space to return to. Sit on the terrace as the sun sets, sipping wine – city breaks don’t get better than this.

When it comes to sightseeing, you’re ideally placed too with Piazza del Popolo a twelve-minute stroll, Castel Sant'Angelo an eighteen-minute walk and St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City twenty-four minutes away on foot. If you're a group heading to Rome, or perhaps two families travelling together, this home offers a colourful, arty alternative to run-of-the-mill apartments. With their own entrance accessed through an outer gate and a small outside space where you can sip coffee in the morning, they've been recently renovated with artistic flair. 

The one-bedroom apartment sleeps up to four, thanks to a sofa bed in the lounge, and this one is mainly decked out in red and black. High ceilings and a brick-effect wall make for a bright, fun place to put your feet up at the end of the day, and we particularly love the neon sign and touches of Americana. Meanwhile, the other apartment is an ode to monochrome, with modern, designer furniture and a minimalist feel. Laid out over two storeys, you’ll have two living rooms and two kitchens here, as well as a choice of indoor and outdoor dining areas – perfect for enjoying a meal cooked by a private chef, which your host can arrange. Designed by accomplished artist and interior designer, Francesca Squillante Montoro (also known as Tompiy), the home also boasts bespoke furnishings, eye-catching artwork, a small gym, and a collection of lush plants. Location-wise, you’re in the Prati area of the city, known for its wide streets and gourmet restaurants, and within a twenty-minute walk of many of Rome’s iconic landmarks.

A Roman Affair

Despite its position in an old, atmospheric square near Campo de’ Fiori, Falconry has been renovated recently, and most of the furniture has been made to measure, making the whole place feel very well crafted. Everything fits together, from the parquet floor to the various lamps, and even the terrace is taken care of, and not an afterthought. High up among the rooftops, it feels like a little refuge from the hectic city below.

Tucked between Piazza di Spagna and the Villa Borghese, you couldn't ask for a better spot to base yourself during your Roman holiday. The cobbled street outside is utterly charming, and even with the crowds milling about a few hundred metres away, it's quite peaceful. The sprawling Villa Borghese is just five minutes away – it's an absolute must-visit, home to lush greenery, city views and beautiful sculptures, plus it's where you'll find the Gigi Proietti Globe Theatre and Museo Pietro Canonica. You're also not far from other tourist attractions – the Spanish Steps are a ten-minute walk, while the Pantheon is reachable in twenty. Inside, the apartment is bright and roomy, with a sleek kitchen and two cosy sofas that you'll want to sink into after a busy. We particularly liked the beautiful artwork of local sights that adorn the walls, and there's even a delicious restaurant downstairs when you don't feel like cooking. End your evenings on the private terrace – just pour yourself a glass of wine and relax as the sun goes down, basking in the magic of Rome.

You’ll find this charming apartment on the narrow, atmospheric Via dei Coronari (officially one of the world’s ten most beautiful streets), right in Rome’s historic centre. It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Just across the River Tiber, a fifteen-minute walk takes you to the endless museums and Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. Housed in a building dating back to the 1500s, this apartment still radiates old-world charm which can immediately be felt by the 19th-century aedicule at the entrance. The wooden coffered ceiling and herringbone floor harks back to a bygone age and gilded mirrors and antique furnishings complete the feeling that you’ve stepped into an opulent home in the 19th century. Though it may seem like you’re staying in a museum, the practicalities have been thought of as well, with a full kitchen for your morning espresso, and comfy sofas around the flatscreen TV in the lounge.

But, ever the professional, your host Michele hasn’t used that as an excuse to rest on his laurels. The flat itself is in perfect condition, and while it doesn’t have the feeling of a family home, that’s often a good thing when it's not a sprawling home with space for all the host's personal items. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the flat, which is perfect for groups of friends travelling together, though families might want little ones closer by, or not. We understand. Sandwiched between the river and lively Campo de' Fiori, you're in a prime location to explore the city. The square is home to the city's most vibrant (and occasionally overpriced) street market (Monday-Saturday mornings). Still, this famous foodie haven is a good place to stock up on fresh produce, just a five-minute walk from your apartment. Cross over the stone footbridge, Ponte Sisto, and within a couple of minutes, you'll be immersed in trendy Trastevere. With its cobbled streets lined with charmingly faded facades, innovative trattorias, and craft cocktail bars, there's plenty to keep you occupied well into the night.
