Everything fits together, from the parquet floor to the various lamps, and even the terrace is taken care of, and not an afterthought. Finding a street close to it all but not inundated with tourists is the holy grail in Rome – and that's precisely where you'll find this apartment. We call it the Goldilocks zone. But, ever the professional, your host Michele hasn’t used that as an excuse to rest on his laurels. The flat itself is in perfect condition, and while it doesn’t have the feeling of a family home, that’s often a good thing when it's not a sprawling home with space for all the host's personal items. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the flat, which is perfect for groups of friends travelling together, though families might want little ones closer by, or not. We understand. Sandwiched between the river and lively Campo de' Fiori, you're in a prime location to explore the city. The square is home to the city's most vibrant (and occasionally overpriced) street market (Monday-Saturday mornings). Still, this famous foodie haven is a good place to stock up on fresh produce, just a five-minute walk from your apartment. Cross over the stone footbridge, Ponte Sisto, and within a couple of minutes, you'll be immersed in trendy Trastevere. With its cobbled streets lined with charmingly faded facades, innovative trattorias, and craft cocktail bars, there's plenty to keep you occupied well into the night.

In the heart of the historic Rione Ponte neighbourhood, this apartment puts all of Rome's must-sees at your fingertips. Whether you want to visit Piazza Navona, The Pantheon, or St. Peter's Basilica, it's no problem – they're all about a ten-minute walk away. Back home, the double sofa bed offers flexibility if you're travelling in a larger group. The design is contemporary rather than charming, but the Juliet balcony is a nice, traditional touch (and the view is quintessentially Roman). While the kitchen is small, you'll find plenty of delicious eateries nearby – the climb up to the third floor is a great way to burn off all that pasta.

For the location, you're surrounded by local authenticity and just a seven-minute walk to the emblematic Colosseum. Find an assortment of eateries, wine bars and classy cafés to enjoy an alfresco lunch in the sun, before working off any over-indulgences with a gentle fourteen-minute stroll to Trevi Fountain – pennies at the ready. We also have to mention the apartment being on the cusp of Monti and Campitelli – both are full of beautiful piazzas, windy backstreets and family-run trattorias. Back home, we think there's somewhat of a contemporary Scandi feel, with plain bedspreads, pared-back furnishings and white shelved walls. Modern and minimalist, you'll also notice the elegant marble floors, quirky wallpaper prints and low-hanging light bulbs that we really loved.

Sure, the traditional style of this apartment, laid out over three floors, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay. And the cherry on top? It has to be the private terrace. Just the spot for sipping limoncello as you gaze out across the Eternal City after a busy day.

Centrally located in the eternal city of Rome, this home is a mere stone's throw from several iconic landmarks, including the Ponte Sisto, where you can overlook the Tiber. And some of those sights you might even spot from the balcony, though when it comes to the outdoor seating, we prefer the patio table in the shade of the pergola. As for the home, the rustic charm of the rafters and furnishings is sweet and well-kept. It's worth noting that despite being spacious, this home's sleeping arrangements feature a double sofa bed and another room with two single sofa beds that might be more suitable for children. With two other double beds available, however, it's the ideal pad for a family getaway.

The Roman Centaur

When we saw this grand home in the heart of Rome, we were in total awe. The classic Italianate interiors are utter joy, with exquisite antique furniture and oil paintings from the host's family homes in Puglia and Sardinia. Large windows with original shutters look out over pretty Via Bocca di Leone off Via Borgognona, with its luxury boutiques. Entertain in style at the large dining table under the light of the crystal chandelier. Or get some rest in the bedroom painted in a rich Pompeian red – if you’re not feeling sleepy, there’s a library here with a variety of books on art and literature to leaf through. Another bedroom has French doors onto a small balcony, filled with plants, with a view onto the internal courtyard – ideal for breakfast in bed before exploring this charismatic city. This location is fantastic –  it’s just a three-minute walk to the Spanish Steps and a ten-minute saunter to the stunning Trevi Fountain, while a range of sublime restaurants are right on your doorstep. You’d be hard-pressed to find better.

This charming home, set on one of the most historic streets of Rome, will take you back in time with antique furniture and an effortless vintage touch. Although you might not have great impressionist painters philosophising in your sitting room, you’ll be inspired by the life this cosy home has lived – hopefully in such a way that it sparks something creative within you. Writers can take to the small desk to let that creativity spill out onto the page, artists can sketch by the light of the lounge window, cooks can whip up innovative new recipes in the compact kitchen, and musicians, well, the piano is waiting for your brand new melody. 

In case you need a muse, the entirety of The Eternal City is waiting for you. Venture to the Pantheon in five minutes or stroll twenty-minutes away to explore Vatican City. Piazza Navona with its 16th century marble fountain, is at the end of a five-minute walk  – sit there contemplating as you watch people go by as you nurse a cappuccino. Don’t forget to swing by the pastry shop on your way home for some of the freshest cannelloni and five flavours of tiramisu.

A Vintage Touch

Finding somewhere that can comfortably sleep eight (and ten, at a stretch) in the Jewish Quarter isn’t as straightforward as you might think. Finding somewhere that can comfortably sleep eight and has a view as good as Teatro’s is even harder. It looks down onto the Largo di Torre Argentina, which holds the ruins of four temples and Pompey’s Theatre. It’s a fantastic spot, and Teatro makes the most of it, with a simple design intended to not interfere.

Keen to be in the historic heart of Rome? If so, you'll love this apartment. Just a few steps from the Trevi Fountain, it's a short stroll from restaurants, shops, and must-see landmarks – that's about as central as it gets. Inside, the design merges contemporary comfort with classic charm. The living area has ornate ceilings and large windows offering a glimpse of the famous fountain, while each bedroom has its own bathroom for added convenience. There isn't a coffee machine, but there are plenty of cafes within walking distance where you can kickstart your day with an espresso.

Fontana Fantasy

Paquino is perfectly comfortable, and while it lacks a bit of flair in the design department, it’s pleasant to look at. None of this really matters though, because the big thing going for it is the position, right in the heart of Monti. There are loads of excellent restaurants around (although the kitchen is actually pretty good, easily enough for a decent meal) and you really are in the cobbled streets among the ancient ruins that define the city.

Set in a gorgeous 20th-century building only a five-minute walk from the Piazza di Spagna, this home delivers on location in spades. You're surrounded by mouth-watering restaurants, traditional cafes and upscale shops, not to mention all the museums, landmarks (including The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain) and galleries within walking distance. Spend an afternoon wandering Rome's cobbled streets before enjoying an aperitif at one of the trendy bars in this neighbourhood. When you've had your fun for the day, retreat home to this bright and roomy apartment. Inside, it's uncluttered and minimal, which only enhances the relaxing atmosphere. Our favourite spot is the long balcony, which is shaded from the Italian sun by a leafy trellis. Sit out there in the evenings with a glass of wine and admire the views before unwinding with a soak in the lush deep bathtub.

If the recently remodelled bathroom isn't enough to convince you that this home is special, then surely the outstanding location in the neighbourhood of Trevi will do the trick. There is an evident downside, however – we won’t go as far as calling it a kitchen because there is only a hob, sink, and refrigerator, so if you enjoy flexing your culinary muscles, then this is not the home for you. But, in a city like Rome, we won’t expect guests to be doing much cooking in the first place. Instead, go out and try Roman specialities, like Carciofi alla Giudìa, Supplì, and more. 

The Triton

Deep within the narrow, medieval streets of Rome, this period building hides a surprisingly modern apartment for up to five guests. It's not a huge space but it's been cleverly configured to make the most of what it has – and to make it feel comfortable and high-end at the same time. Decorated in on-trend whites, creams and greys, it's bright and fresh. The kitchenette is stowed away in a cupboard-like space in the living room and while it's perfect for the basics, it's not going to appeal to keen home cooks – but this is Rome, and some of the best restaurants, cafes and bars in the world are right on your doorstep. Our favourite feature of this home is the view onto the charming Piazza dei Satiri outside. And while we're talking location, the famous Campo de’ Fiori market is just around the corner.


Pan's Place

Ideally situated in Trastevere, this fuss-free base is an excellent starting point for sightseeing. Many of the city's must-see landmarks, including Camp de' Fiori and the Pantheon, are within walking distance. Even better, you've got a bevvy of art galleries, boutiques and trattorias nearby – after all, there's a reason this neighbourhood is considered the most charming in Rome. While the interiors here are rather dated, the brick ceilings and arched doorways add some character. The bedroom includes a desk for remote work, while the living room has a sofa bed for two guests. It's not the biggest, but it'll do the trick for an Eternal City getaway.

This traditional apartment sits just a two-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, in a fabulous location in Rome. The large windows look out over Palazzo Torlonia and Via Bocca di Leone, and you’ll have plenty of restaurants and bars within easy reach. When you want to explore more of Rome, there are convenient metro lines nearby. The apartment boasts elegant old-world touches including chandeliers and wood-beamed ceilings. There’s plenty of room for everyone to gather together in the living and dining spaces, whether you’re dining in or just enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail.

This third-floor apartment is perfectly placed for getting to know Rome, boasting a private balcony overlooking the street. There is the potential for some noise and parking outside may be tricky, but you'll have public transport nearby and attractions like the Basilica of Santa Maria are an easy walk away. The kitchen is fully equipped but quite small, and storage throughout is limited so we think it's best for short breaks or work trips. At full capacity, two guests will sleep on the comfy sofa bed, and your host can provide a free cot and high chair to make travelling with little ones a breeze.

A vineyard view isn’t what you expect from an apartment in the heart of Rome, but that’s what you get at this home. The study (or second bedroom) overlooks the vines of Rome’s Botanic Gardens, as though you’re in Tuscany or Chianti rather than the hip suburb of Trastevere. Bars and local trattoria fills the buzzing streets, but this apartment is a haven of calm amidst it all. The interior is a modern medley of soft green and grey, while the exterior boasts the traditional wooden shutters of medieval Italy. Big, arched doors in the master bedroom open up to a private terrace, dappled with greenery and set up with a couple of deckchairs and a drinks table. There’s also a terrace off the living room, with dining for four – perfect for an aperitivo before hitting the bars of Trastevere.

You couldn’t ask for a better location in Rome than this apartment, which looks directly onto the iconic Colosseum. The apartment is modern and stylish, with designer furniture and a luxurious vibe. We love the high ceilings, which reach over 5 metres, and how bright and welcoming this home feels. There’s a convenient kitchen, though you’ll have your pick of Roman restaurants right on your doorstep if you don’t feel like cooking. Convenient, chic, and comfortable – what more could you ask for?

You'll be impressed with the views of the Santa Barbara dei Librari seen from the windows of this newly renovated apartment. But you'll love this home's location even more. Set in the heart of the historic district, overlooking the atmospheric square Largo dei library, all the must-see sights are walkable from here.

Get off to a flying start with a hefty dose of Roman life around the corner at Campo de Fiori (a three-minute walk) –⁠ by day, the piazza hosts one of the city's best-known markets, and by night, its bars and restaurants keep the night flowing. Or do like the locals with early-evening passeggiatas along the postcard-pretty River Tiber, it's just a four-minute walk from your door.

It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Just across the River Tiber, a fifteen-minute walk takes you to the endless museums and Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. Housed in a building dating back to the 1500s, this apartment still radiates old-world charm which can immediately be felt by the 19th-century aedicule at the entrance. The wooden coffered ceiling and herringbone floor harks back to a bygone age and gilded mirrors and antique furnishings complete the feeling that you’ve stepped into an opulent home in the 19th century. Though it may seem like you’re staying in a museum, the practicalities have been thought of as well, with a full kitchen for your morning espresso, and comfy sofas around the flatscreen TV in the lounge.

You can wander to the Trevi Fountain in six minutes, stroll through the tremendous Villa Borghese in ten, and shop for provincial produce in Campo de' Fiori in twenty-five minutes, flat. Gives a whole new meaning to the saying 'when in Rome', doesn't it?

After a busy day of sightseeing, pour yourself a glass of red wine and unwind with some locally-sourced gastronomic goodies in the open-plan living area. Decorated in soft cream shades and featuring sumptuous sofas and traditionally-shuttered windows, the lounge radiates relaxation and charm. The kitchen isn't the biggest in our collection, but it's well-equipped if you're in the mood to rustle up a light breakfast or quick lunch. Meanwhile, the bedrooms are comfortable and cosy – just the ticket following a long afternoon on your feet. We think it's an ideal laid-back getaway in Italy's buzzing capital.

After a busy day, come home to this snug apartment and relax in style. It has plenty of details that set it apart from the crowd, from the bold wallpaper to the ceramic leopard that greets you as you enter. The wooden beams and large windows hark back to Trastevere's history, and though it may be small, it feels like a cosy home-from-home, perfect for a couple wanting a romantic getaway in the heart of Rome.

A short walk away (350 metres), you’ll find Castel Sant’Angelo and it’s just 750 metres from the endless museums of The Vatican. It’s split across two levels and, upon entering, you’ll be greeted with a lavish living room with picture-perfect views. The second bedroom features a sofa bed, but its access to a private terrace with views of Castel Sant’Angelo is a definite highlight – perfect for enjoying sunset meals and celebratory glasses if Italian wine.

If you're planning a trip to Rome but are not so keen on the traditional homes that make up a lot of the options, we would point you in the direction of this contemporary apartment.

Against an effortlessly cool backdrop of stark white walls and tiled flooring, much of the interior design embraces industrial-chic trends, from the bare lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling and the chalkboard on the kitchen wall to the bright yellow stools at the kitchen surface. We're also big fans of the Basquiat artworks and the sleek bathroom.

In keeping with this stylish interior, the home sits on the trendier side of the Tiber in the neighbourhood of Trastevere, full of fashionable trattorias and photogenic alleyways. If you fancy giving in to your inner tourist at any point, many of the big-hitters aren't far away. Both Piazza Navona and the Pantheon can be seen in twenty minutes' walk, while Castel Sant'Angelo takes just over a quarter of an hour on foot.

Milliner has a history as a family home – Olimpia actually grew up here – and as such it’s got a bit of soul to it. It’s been designed to last, and many of the pieces of furniture have a sense of intransigence to them, from the tree boughs to the wicker and the collection of books. The space is slightly lopsided, as most of it feels quite large, but the second bedroom is definitely undersized, but this is really just a quibble. It’s a welcoming, genuine place.


Milliner

It’s a journey to get to Ocean Eyes, but we promise it’s worth it. Tucked away on the fourth floor of a beautiful Navona building, it comes with an airy terrace, perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine. The immediate street is filled with antique shops – and you’re only a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Piazza Navona. The place itself is quite small (especially if four guests stay here), but we’re willing to look past that as it’s just so charming.

Ocean Eyes

As well as being ideally located in one of the prettiest and most central squares in Rome, this apartment is also within walking distance from pretty much every major tourist attraction. For example, you'll find yourself less than five minutes' walk from the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, nine minutes from the Trevi Fountain, and twenty-five minutes to the Colosseum. You've also got plenty of eateries nearby to refuel after a long day of exploring – favourites include seafood linguine at La Tavernetta 48 and creative bruschetta and seasonal dishes at Michelin-recommended CiPASSO – both of which are within a two-minute walk. We'd suggest you pick this home based on location alone, but luckily the classically Roman interior has its own charms. It might not be one for the cutting-edge minimalist, but with high ceilings, antique furniture and tiled floors throughout, there's plenty of character on show here. Finally, there's a lovely big kitchen for rustling up family feasts, and the light-filled bedrooms all have large windows and ornate beds in the two king rooms.

Twister

Charming and cosy, you'll find this apartment in the centre of Rome, just around the corner from Campo de' Fiori and its morning market. Whether you're in the mood for museums and art galleries or bars and boutiques, this spot promises many Roman adventures – your host can even arrange guided tours and culinary experiences for you. If sightseeing is on your to-do list, you're in luck – Piazza Navona (a seven-minute walk), the Pantheon (eleven minutes on foot), the Trevi Fountain (walkable in eighteen) and the Colosseum (a twenty-three-minute stroll) are all within easy reach.

After exploring, come home to this characterful flat, where beamed wooden ceilings, traditional tile floors and vintage furniture create an authentic ambience. Rest weary legs on the sofa, a glass of wine in hand, then rustle up dinner in the glossy kitchen. The bedroom is comfortable and features a quaint Juliet balcony overlooking the courtyard, but our favourite room has to be the study – we adore the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves stuffed with well-thumbed tomes. The antique desk facing the square is the perfect place to get down to business – there's nothing quite like checking your inbox while admiring the hustle and bustle in Largo dei Librari outside.

Located in a quiet corner of Rome’s bohemian Travestere neighbourhood, this stylish apartment offers a calm and relaxing base from which to explore the city’s most famous sights. 
 
Distinctly modern with its dusky blue feature wall, wood floors and contemporary decor, the open-plan living area is a sociable space in which you’ll feel right at home. Make yourself comfortable on the sofa with your morning coffee, enjoying the breeze flowing through the open glass door. Here, you’ll find three steps leading out onto a private sun-baked terrace – the ideal spot to catch some rays on the loungers or to gather for an alfresco meal around the outdoor table. 
 
The study – which acts as a second bedroom – is the perfect spot to retreat for some quiet reading or to catch up on work at the desk space with its views of the communal garden, while the main bedroom is pared-back yet elegant and boasts a luxurious en-suite complete with a rainfall shower. And if that wasn’t enough, you’ve also got access to the building’s on-site sauna.
 
When it comes to exploring, visit the Botanical Garden of Rome (a six-minute walk away) or stroll across the River Tiber to see the Pantheon (a twenty-three-minute walk) and Piazza Navona (an eighteen-minute walk). With countless traditional and innovative trattorias, craft beer pubs and artisan shops within your Travestere locale too, you’ve got the best of the Eternal City within easy reach.

Return back home in the evening to your cosy apartment that has plenty to offer beyond its wonderful location. The interior is overflowing with character, infused with antiques and high-vaulted ceilings. Come nightfall, the balcony is a dreamy place to chat about the adventures of tomorrow.
