There are even some glimpses of the Vatican City from this abode, or it's a ten-minute ride to this treasure trove of iconic art and architecture. This apartment makes a practical base in the Eternal City. It has everything you need to relax and unwind, from a desk for business travellers to a small balcony for sundowners – there's even wallpaper inspired by Italian gardens. There's also a small kitchen, though we think you'll prefer to dine out since Italy is known for its cuisine. Sleeping options are flexible here, as two bedrooms have a single bed and double bed, while the living room has a sofa bed. Location-wise, you're a bit far from the city centre – about twenty minutes by car – but the Vatican is about a fifteen-minute walk away.


Basilica Belle

There isn’t much that’s more Italian than a Vespa, and Farobasso has two of them. These are the most eye-catching vintage objects in the apartment, but there are many more - the host has tied the theme together nicely. The entire place has been recently redone, and you can tell from the excellent condition it’s in - the bathrooms in particular feel spotless. However, Farobasso is a way out of the historic centre. It might be well-placed to visit the Vatican, but to get to the Trevi fountain, or the Colosseum, you might be tempted to commandeer one of the scooters.

Housed in a prestigious building, set just footsteps from the Vatican City, this central apartment offers a relaxing stay in the heart of Rome's ancient history. The apartment offers two well-sized bedrooms, both equipped with a bathroom each for added comfort. Just note that you'll need to climb a flight of stairs to reach the entrance of the apartment. But overall, it's a great base for families or two couples in search of a central home-from-home.

It's also worth noting that you'll need to climb a flight of stairs to reach the apartment.

That said, our favourite feature here is the balcony - we can't think of a better spot to enjoy an alfresco Aperol Spritz.

It's hard to imagine a better location for this smart studio apartment, set equidistance between Rome's majestic Vatican City and the upmarket streets of the Prati district. Get off to a flying start with a coffee to go and a stroll around the Vatican's Museums (eleven minutes on foot) to marvel at some of Italy's most revered artworks. When thoughts turn to food, the bustling streets of Prati (twelve minutes on foot) will easily deliver tasty tapas and a glass of something chilled. Then hop over the river to discover Rome's historic centre (half an hour on foot) – or there's a metro station just three minutes from your door if you'd rather give your feet a rest. And when it's time to escape the crowds, take to the green hills of Parco di Monte Ciocci (ten minutes on foot) to admire panoramic views of St. Peter's Basilica – best seen at sunset. Back at home, while this fresh, modern apartment may be compact, we think it's rather perfectly formed. There's all you could need for a bolthole in the city, including a sleek kitchen space for firing up the coffee pod machine and rustling up some breakfast. And a sparkling white bathroom with a rainfall shower to kick start another day of adventure in The Eternal City.

The nearest major hotspot is the Vatican City and its array of museums, only a short walk from the apartment. And with the Ottaviano Metro spot just six minutes away on foot, hopping around the city is easy. Inside, you’ll find a comfortable space to relax and a handy kitchenette suitable for preparing light bites. In it’s former life, this apartment was the home of a Roman painter. And while it has since been restored into a contemporary sanctuary, you can still see evidence of its artistic history. Up in the turret there is a study with impressive views across the city. The bedrooms make it easy to switch off and unwind, while the terraces provide the perfect spot for drinks and alfresco dining. Your host can arrange sweet extras like breakfast delivery or a welcome basket. Plus, it’s in a great location. From here you can walk to the nearest market and it’s possible to reach the Vatican in just twenty-minutes. 

The Art of Italy

The Vatican is so close you can see the dome of St Peter’s Basilica from the balcony of this apartment. In ten minutes on foot, you can be admiring the endless museums and world-famous Sistine Chapel of the world’s smallest country. 

The apartment itself has a spacious, open-plan living area which is kept bright and light with pure white walls. Vibrant modern artworks add a lively pop of colour at every turn, and the slate-grey sofa sings with neon cushions. The full kitchen in fire-engine-red has everything you need to whip up breakfast, lunch and dinner. In our opinion, the best spot for an evening aperitivo is the private balcony which has an enviable view of St Peter’s Basilica, whose dome rises out from the shambling rooftops and is illuminated at sunset.

It’s worth noting the apartment is simple, but it’s a sweet option for families and groups in search of ease in a fantastic location.

This apartment boasts a marvellous location in the heart of Rome. The Vatican is a short walk away in one direction, with beautiful Castel Sant’Angelo in another. You can stroll to both attractions in no time, perhaps stopping for gelato on the way. The apartment has been used as a set for films and TV series, and one glance at the expansive roof terrace tells you why. It’s a splendid spot for soaking up the Italian sun and dining alfresco under the stars. At full occupancy, one guest will sleep on the sofa bed in the living room.

Start your day by tucking into pastries and coffee on the terrace. There are glorious views of the Vatican, which is just a twenty-four-minute walk away. Watch the streets below come to life while you plan how you’ll spend your stay. After visiting the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica, perhaps you’ll stroll to Sant’Angelo Bridge – it’s nineteen minutes away. Decide which of the restaurants you pass you’ll return to for dinner, and definitely indulge in a scoop or two of gelato. 

Depending on your stamina, everything is within walking distance but in those peak summer months, you’ll be grateful for how easy it is to explore on the metro. The journey to the Pantheon takes twenty-one minutes. After a day spent touring around the historic sights, the apartment is a delightfully chilled-out space to return to. Sit on the terrace as the sun sets, sipping wine – city breaks don’t get better than this.

Notations is fairly simple, but it’s comfortable, and does what it says on the tin. You aren’t going to come across any nasty surprises. The living room’s a decent size, and it’s even got a small balcony (albeit an unfurnished one). This area of the city isn’t quite as evocative as some others, but the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica looms over the streets in an impressive manner.


Notations

This comfortable apartment is located in a palazzo close to the Vatican – you need only walk fifteen minutes to reach St Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums. It’s on a quiet street with restaurants nearby, with transport links to the rest of Rome. The apartment has a workspace for those working during their stay, and an attractive open-plan living and dining space. There’s only one bedroom, so at full occupancy, three guests will sleep on sofa beds. We'd recommend a maximum guest count of four.

Roman Mosaic

Sitting on the edge of Vatican City, this apartment is the ideal base from which to begin your Roman Holiday. From here, days can be spent strolling the medieval streets and ticking off all the major sights. You can explore on foot or take the easily accessible public transport links, plus there’s an abundant selection of restaurants, bars and cafes right on the doorstep. The rooms and furnishings are a little dated, but there’s plenty of space to relax after a day of exploring. Plus, your host can organise a range of extra services including airport transfers and wellness treatments. 

Roman Beauty

A short walk from Vatican City and right around the corner from the Ottaviano Metro stop, this apartment places you in a prime position for exploring some of the city's top highlights. Set on the third floor, you'll benefit from pleasant views of the lively streets below, while being far removed from the hustle and bustle. Inside, the open-plan layout and colourful decor create a lovely space to hang out and socialise with your group – as long as two guests don't mind sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area.

While you can’t actually see the Vatican walls from Three Stags, turn right out of the door and walk about twenty metres and they’re right there. It’s a great location, which is fitting as it’s a great flat. Rather than seeking to preserve a crumbling old flat, Valeria’s recently redone the whole place, updating it without losing the character of the original place. There’s tonnes of space, given that it only has one bedroom, so having a couple of extra people sleeping in the living room is no problem (though three might be a squeeze).
