Despite its position in an old, atmospheric square near Campo de’ Fiori, Falconry has been renovated recently, and most of the furniture has been made to measure, making the whole place feel very well crafted. Everything fits together, from the parquet floor to the various lamps, and even the terrace is taken care of, and not an afterthought. High up among the rooftops, it feels like a little refuge from the hectic city below.

The Duchess is a comfortable place with lots going for it, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t start with that view. Finding a street close to it all but not inundated with tourists is the holy grail in Rome – and that's precisely where you'll find this apartment. We call it the Goldilocks zone. But, ever the professional, your host Michele hasn’t used that as an excuse to rest on his laurels. The flat itself is in perfect condition, and while it doesn’t have the feeling of a family home, that’s often a good thing when it's not a sprawling home with space for all the host's personal items. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the flat, which is perfect for groups of friends travelling together, though families might want little ones closer by, or not. We understand. Sandwiched between the river and lively Campo de' Fiori, you're in a prime location to explore the city. The square is home to the city's most vibrant (and occasionally overpriced) street market (Monday-Saturday mornings). Still, this famous foodie haven is a good place to stock up on fresh produce, just a five-minute walk from your apartment. Cross over the stone footbridge, Ponte Sisto, and within a couple of minutes, you'll be immersed in trendy Trastevere. With its cobbled streets lined with charmingly faded facades, innovative trattorias, and craft cocktail bars, there's plenty to keep you occupied well into the night.

This penthouse lies in the heart of Rome, with some expansive rooftop views from its cosy terrace. Ideal for small families, friends or couples looking to get to know the city, the decor is traditional and charming, though the low ceilings in some areas may not be suitable for taller guests. Parking here is paid, but if you're not driving, you won't have much problem getting around. There's plenty within walking distance, from restaurants and shops to the River Tiber and the ancient Pantheon. Public transport is also nearby, making it easy to see the sights both near and far.

A vineyard view isn’t what you expect from an apartment in the heart of Rome, but that’s what you get at this home. The study (or second bedroom) overlooks the vines of Rome’s Botanic Gardens, as though you’re in Tuscany or Chianti rather than the hip suburb of Trastevere. Bars and local trattoria fills the buzzing streets, but this apartment is a haven of calm amidst it all. The interior is a modern medley of soft green and grey, while the exterior boasts the traditional wooden shutters of medieval Italy. Big, arched doors in the master bedroom open up to a private terrace, dappled with greenery and set up with a couple of deckchairs and a drinks table. There’s also a terrace off the living room, with dining for four – perfect for an aperitivo before hitting the bars of Trastevere.

Grab yourself a big slice of Roman life at this immaculate river view apartment, just around the corner from the iconic piazza of Campo di Fiori. Home to one of the city's best-known markets and, by night, buzzing bars and restaurants, this square delivers all the Italian charms you're chasing.

You can easily blaze a trail to Rome's biggest sights from here, too, including the Colosseo (half-an-hour on foot) and even closer, the Patheon (a fifteen-minute walk). Or ditch the crowds and hop over the bridge to Trastevere's atmospheric alleyways to seek out a nonna-esque trattoria for dinner. 

Back home, this newly renovated apartment feels like the perfect little hideaway after days amongst the city's hustle and bustle. Put your feet up in the light-filled living space – the leafy vistas reaching out to the River Tiber through the dual-aspect windows are a joy. While over in the two boutique-feel bedrooms, guests sharing will love the privacy of the separate ensuite bathrooms. And despite its central location, both rooms feel surprisingly quiet at night, so you can bank a good night's kip here. While for those planning to work or study during your stay, there's a handy desk space in one of the bedrooms with a charming view to boot.

Finding somewhere that can comfortably sleep eight (and ten, at a stretch) in the Jewish Quarter isn’t as straightforward as you might think. Finding somewhere that can comfortably sleep eight and has a view as good as Teatro’s is even harder. It looks down onto the Largo di Torre Argentina, which holds the ruins of four temples and Pompey’s Theatre. It’s a fantastic spot, and Teatro makes the most of it, with a simple design intended to not interfere.

Deep within the narrow, medieval streets of Rome, this period building hides a surprisingly modern apartment for up to five guests. It's not a huge space but it's been cleverly configured to make the most of what it has – and to make it feel comfortable and high-end at the same time. Decorated in on-trend whites, creams and greys, it's bright and fresh. The kitchenette is stowed away in a cupboard-like space in the living room and while it's perfect for the basics, it's not going to appeal to keen home cooks – but this is Rome, and some of the best restaurants, cafes and bars in the world are right on your doorstep. Our favourite feature of this home is the view onto the charming Piazza dei Satiri outside. And while we're talking location, the famous Campo de’ Fiori market is just around the corner.

Immerse yourself in the heartbeat of Rome with a stay in a 12th century turret, a stroll away from the Pantheon. Divided over four floors, guests are welcomed by a living area complete with a compact but full kitchen. Ascend the winding staircase to discover two bedrooms – each with an ensuite bathroom. At the top, there’s a mini home gym, and a desk for those working remotely. You can really feel the history of Rome in the frescoes by Taddeo and Federico Zuccari, but the narrow stairways may not suit everyone. 

The Twelfth Century Charm

Ideally situated in Trastevere, this fuss-free base is an excellent starting point for sightseeing. Many of the city's must-see landmarks, including Camp de' Fiori and the Pantheon, are within walking distance. Even better, you've got a bevvy of art galleries, boutiques and trattorias nearby – after all, there's a reason this neighbourhood is considered the most charming in Rome. While the interiors here are rather dated, the brick ceilings and arched doorways add some character. The bedroom includes a desk for remote work, while the living room has a sofa bed for two guests. It's not the biggest, but it'll do the trick for an Eternal City getaway.

You'll be impressed with the views of the Santa Barbara dei Librari seen from the windows of this newly renovated apartment. But you'll love this home's location even more. Set in the heart of the historic district, overlooking the atmospheric square Largo dei library, all the must-see sights are walkable from here.

Get off to a flying start with a hefty dose of Roman life around the corner at Campo de Fiori (a three-minute walk) –⁠ by day, the piazza hosts one of the city's best-known markets, and by night, its bars and restaurants keep the night flowing. Or do like the locals with early-evening passeggiatas along the postcard-pretty River Tiber, it's just a four-minute walk from your door.

Back at home, this modern apartment housed in an ancient Roman villa of mighty proportions makes quite the first impression with its floor-to-ceiling windows flooding the space with natural daylight and revealing charming scenes of the pretty piazza below.

The designers have cleverly used the height of those lofty, exposed beam ceilings to create a nifty mezzanine level that houses the second bedroom. It’s just over a five-minute stroll to a wide variety of eateries, while history lovers can visit Piazza di Santa Maria with its 12th-century basilica. If you want to check out some of Rome’s main attractions, the Trevi Fountain and Colosseum are around a half an hour walk or fifteen-minute ride away. Back at this stylish home, there’s traditional character aplenty with its stunning brickwork ceilings, tiled floors and a magnificent chandelier, which combine wonderfully with modern architectural features such as the bespoke metal screen. It's about a twenty-minute walk to the Pantheon, and though other landmarks like the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum are around a half-an-hour away, this excellent location is well worth it. Spend afternoons roaming the pretty-as-a-postcard alleyways and people-watching in the piazzas, then grab an alfresco aperitif in the evenings at one of the world-class trattorias. After a busy day, come home to this snug apartment and relax in style. It has plenty of details that set it apart from the crowd, from the bold wallpaper to the ceramic leopard that greets you as you enter. The wooden beams and large windows hark back to Trastevere's history, and though it may be small, it feels like a cosy home-from-home, perfect for a couple wanting a romantic getaway in the heart of Rome.

Charming and cosy, you'll find this apartment in the centre of Rome, just around the corner from Campo de' Fiori and its morning market. Whether you're in the mood for museums and art galleries or bars and boutiques, this spot promises many Roman adventures – your host can even arrange guided tours and culinary experiences for you. If sightseeing is on your to-do list, you're in luck – Piazza Navona (a seven-minute walk), the Pantheon (eleven minutes on foot), the Trevi Fountain (walkable in eighteen) and the Colosseum (a twenty-three-minute stroll) are all within easy reach.

After exploring, come home to this characterful flat, where beamed wooden ceilings, traditional tile floors and vintage furniture create an authentic ambience. Rest weary legs on the sofa, a glass of wine in hand, then rustle up dinner in the glossy kitchen. Milliner has a history as a family home – Olimpia actually grew up here – and as such it’s got a bit of soul to it. It’s been designed to last, and many of the pieces of furniture have a sense of intransigence to them, from the tree boughs to the wicker and the collection of books. The space is slightly lopsided, as most of it feels quite large, but the second bedroom is definitely undersized, but this is really just a quibble. It’s a welcoming, genuine place.

Not far from Campo de' Fiori and other landmarks, this apartment's location is spot-on. Being so central, there's a chance for noise, but we think it's worth the trade to be in the heart of the action. Space is a little tight with the double sofa bed in use, but you'll likely have minimal downtime if sightseeing is your priority. It's worth noting that the bedroom doesn't have an actual door – just a curtain – and that the kitchen is compact. But that aside, the contemporary finishes and prime position make this a great choice for a Roman getaway.

With a combination of old-fashioned furniture and modern flourishes, Silk Road manages to retain an understanding of Rome’s history without getting bogged down in recreating the past. It’s not a simple balancing act, and for the most part, Silk Road pulls it off. And, as should go without saying, having the Pantheon about 100m away is not to be sniffed at (as long as you can handle the tourists that accompany it).

Since 1869, the Campo de' Fiori has been a hub of market trading for fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers. And by evening, this charming square becomes a hub of alfresco dining spots and wine bars. With that in mind, this studio apartment is pretty convenient, at less than a minute away. But if you want to keep busy rather than relaxing with a glass of chianti, you’ll find palaces, museums, and statues all around – such as the Museo di Scultura Antica Giovanni Barracco, two minutes away. However, we feel that this home is somewhat of a landmark itself. As you step inside, you can help but be taken aback by the striking timber ceiling. These thick, rustic beams ooze old-world Italy, transporting you back in time. But with modern twists from minimalist furniture and quirky artworks, there’s an elegant clash of eras which makes this studio feel unique. We love the luxe touches like the marble kitchen sink and bathroom, although your host can provide an even better VIP experience. After being picked up by your private driver from the airport, you might fancy taking up their offer of a wine tasting tour or ride on a classic Vespa.

This charming apartment is in a prime spot in the heart of Navona. It's located down a quiet cobbled street, so you'll be able to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine from the private courtyard while still being close to the city's sights. You're within walking distance of Campo de' Fiori where you can pick up fresh local produce, while Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Vatican City are a short Metro ride away. At home, whip up cocktails in the stylish bar or prepare group meals in the fully equipped kitchen – there's plenty of space to unwind and entertain, though one person will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room.

The palazzo that houses this apartment is something to behold. It's a wonderfully historic building that backs onto a little square and housed renowned American expressionist painter Cy Twombly for a good part of his later life. Once inside, the apartment is simple and traditional but elegant. There are plenty of eye-catching original features on display, including the stunning exposed beam ceiling and open fireplace, It lacks the personal effects of a lived-in home, which will appeal to those who tend to find Roman apartments on the busy side, but your hosts made your comfort their number one priority – the beds (and linens in particular) feel very luxurious and make getting up in the morning that little bit trickier. Explore the labyrinth of streets and you'll find yourself a few minutes' walk from the River Tiber, a five-minute stroll from Piazza Campo de' Fiori and 550 metres from the stunning Piazza Navona.

Habitat has a lot going for it. Beyond the incredible location (Via di Monserrato is considered one of the most beautiful streets in the city), it’s in good condition, has high ceilings, excellent parquet floors, and whitewashed ceiling beams. The kitchen brings the average down a little – you wouldn’t want to plan on cooking a dinner party in there – but apart from that, it’s a very comfortable, practical flat.

Location, location, location! This apartment is a perfect base for exploring the very best of the Eternal City. Your Roman retreat is right in the heart of the historical centre, on a beautiful cobbled street no more than a fifteen-minute amble away from Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona, and charming Trastevere. Perhaps most importantly, you're just off Via Giulia – a roughly half-mile-long cobbled street that's lined from end to end with beautiful churches, elegant palazzi, maze-like antique shops, and some of the fanciest homes in Rome. It's also well-equipped with eateries – I Sofà Bar Restaurant & Roof Terrace is set to impress with great views and even better food or you can rub shoulders with Rome's great and good at specialist seafood establishment Assunta Madre. If the idea of a quiet night in appeals, the high-end appliances in the kitchen have got you covered, while the home cinema in the double room is ideal for watching legendary Fellini films from the comfort of your bed.

From the striking fortress of the Castel Sant'Angelo, founded during the second century, history is on the cards within a short walk in any direction. As you cross the elegant bridge over the Tiber, heading towards the bustling streets of Campo de’ Fiori, the presence of history and old-world wonder is palpable. And on this seven-minute route to your apartment, awe continues at home.

Arriving at this traditional 'via', the orange block stands out against the green leaves of the desert-like foliage lining the street. But while the exterior has a fairly understated facade, this is what really allows for the decor to pop. We recommend pouring yourself a glass of primitivo while you take a look around.

High ceilings, art in gilded frames adorning the walls, floral accents, and a shimmering chandelier create a sense of Italian opulence. But we love the quirkiness from the enourmous painting of a tiger and the trompe l'oeil marble fireplace – painted by the creative owner of this home. Take the rest of the bottle out to the sunny balcony, where you can peer out to the inner courtyard while the trees gently rustle in the breeze.

In the colourful, bohemian Trastevere district, you’ll find this spacious and light-filled apartment up in the eaves of an old building, between the Piazza di Santa Apollonia and the restless Piazza di Santa Maria. The design of the home is functional and serviceable with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The open-plan living-dining arrangement is great for bigger groups while enjoying Prosecco Negronis before heading out to enjoy a famously unhurried dinner at a local trattoria. You’re just one typically winding Roman street away from the south bank of the River Tiber, where a twenty-minute walk via the Ponte Garibaldi takes you to the iconic Pantheon and a ten-minute car ride places you right in the heart of the Vatican City.

If you're planning a trip to Rome but are not so keen on the traditional homes that make up a lot of the options, we would point you in the direction of this contemporary apartment.

Against an effortlessly cool backdrop of stark white walls and tiled flooring, much of the interior design embraces industrial-chic trends, from the bare lightbulbs hanging from the ceiling and the chalkboard on the kitchen wall to the bright yellow stools at the kitchen surface. We're also big fans of the Basquiat artworks and the sleek bathroom.

In keeping with this stylish interior, the home sits on the trendier side of the Tiber in the neighbourhood of Trastevere, full of fashionable trattorias and photogenic alleyways. If you fancy giving in to your inner tourist at any point, many of the big-hitters aren't far away. Both Piazza Navona and the Pantheon can be seen in twenty minutes' walk, while Castel Sant'Angelo takes just over a quarter of an hour on foot.

As for the home, the rustic charm of the rafters and furnishings is sweet and well-kept. It's worth noting that despite being spacious, this home's sleeping arrangements feature a double sofa bed and another room with two single sofa beds that might be more suitable for children. With two other double beds available, however, it's the ideal pad for a family getaway.

The unique round bed is the home's centrepiece, and while there isn't a regular TV here, the projector screen turns the living space into your very own home cinema. Hotspots like Rome's Botanical Garden, the River Tiber, and the ancient Pantheon aren't far to walk, so you won't need to worry about driving here. You'll be on a quiet cobblestone street, but you may still hear some non-disruptive outside noise from the city. Within walking distance, you'll find an array of shops, restaurants, and attractions like the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain, with public transport nearby for getting around.
