The Spanish Steps are only three minutes away on foot, and you need only walk seven minutes to toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain. The apartment is on the fourth floor of the building, so you’ll be able to admire a view of the city’s rooftops from the terrace. This loft apartment is warm and welcoming, with a chic, open layout. The bedroom is at mezzanine level above the living and dining space, so you’ll need to be able to manage the stairs to stay here.

Nauticalia is set just a couple of hundred metres from Piazza di Spagna, giving it the perfect location for people who are in Rome to do a bit of that famous sightseeing. That’s not the only thing going for it, as the apartment boasts some lovely design elements, such as the frescoed ceiling or the marine theme in the bathroom, and the huge beds will keep you comfortable. The kitchen, despite having some wonderful exposed brickwork, is pretty small and basic, but there are so many places to eat in the area that you won’t even notice.


Nauticalia

It doesn’t get more central than this fuss-free apartment. You’ll be moments from the Spanish Steps, so close you can actually glimpse the monument's tower from the small Romeo and Juliet balcony. While it's not the most modern home, we think it works well for couples. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed, while the others will kip on the mezzanine underneath the rustic beams. The kitchen is compact but well-appointed, though it’s best suited to antipasti rather than full meals. For those who want to spend most of their time sightseeing, it’s a good option.

There’s no better way to embrace the history of Rome than to stay in a former 17th-century palace. This apartment’s building embraces the spirit of the “grandezza romana” with its ornate doorway just next to a local pizzeria and marble statues in the ancient stairwell. Stepping into the apartment itself you’re met with grand, high ceilings and a traditional parquet floor. Old double doors let the space flow from the living room, to the dining room and a bijou little kitchen. You’re in a prime location here too. Apart from the buzzing pizzeria literally on your doorstep, there is myriad local trattoria serving up plates of carbonara and tiramisu in the historic streets around you. It’s a seven-minute stroll to Piazza di Spanga (where the Spanish Steps are) and the Trevi Fountain is one minute's walk away, showing just how central this apartment is.

Right on the edge of Campo Marzio, Roman Standard is in an enviable position among some of the smartest boutiques in Italy. It’s tucked under the eaves, so it’s worth noting that parts of the ceiling slope down and are therefore quite low. In the end though, this adds to the cosy feel of the whole place – there’s even a fireplace to keep you warm if you’re there during winter (it’s also there in summer, you’re just less likely to need it).

Soft colours anchor Centurion Flax’s interior – a savvy decision that prevents anything from overshadowing the beautiful frescoes on the ceiling. As a whole, it’s a relaxing, grown-up place, never brash, and with an air of quality to the furniture and fittings. There’s also a small balcony, looking out onto Via Palermo, but it’s too small to spend a lot of time outside. Besides, there are so many interesting bars and cafes around that if you were after aperitivo or breakfast, you aren’t short of options.

If the recently remodelled bathroom isn't enough to convince you that this home is special, then surely the outstanding location in the neighbourhood of Trevi will do the trick. There is an evident downside, however – we won’t go as far as calling it a kitchen because there is only a hob, sink, and refrigerator, so if you enjoy flexing your culinary muscles, then this is not the home for you. But, in a city like Rome, we won’t expect guests to be doing much cooking in the first place. Instead, go out and try Roman specialities, like Carciofi alla Giudìa, Supplì, and more.

It’s in a great location in Monti — one of our favourite parts of the city, famous for vintage shops and undiscovered restaurants — but the interiors are just as much of a draw. The frescoed ceilings are perhaps the most striking element, a welcome nod to the history of both the building and the area, but the brightly coloured walls and touches of modernity — such as the transparent dining chairs and strikingly blue master bathroom — are also appreciated additions. The winning touch is the small balcony just off the kitchen, which has a charming view of the internal courtyard.

This modern studio apartment in an 18th-century building not only makes a good first impression but continues to reveal more of its charm throughout your stay. Everything is well-considered, from the sleek design to the comfortable furnishings, and from the practical layout to the enviable central location. The home’s footprint is well proportioned and the kitchen being partially separated makes the place feel particularly spacious. The cherry on top is the private balcony – it’s great in the morning with a strong coffee and even better at night with a spritz or two. You’ll find yourself less than a ten-minute walk from the unmistakable Trevi Fountain, virtually next-door neighbours with a modern art gallery and within touching distance of a tempting selection of traditional eateries and cosy bars.

While not the most famous fountain in Trevi, the Bernini sculpture in Piazza Barberini is a wonderful piece of art – and it's right on your doorstep at this minimalist apartment. Although if you do fancy a trip to one of the ancient city's most beloved sights, the esteemed Trevi Fountain sits just a ten-minute stroll from your door. The home's right in the middle of Rome, but is just far enough away from the major tourist attractions to avoid the most intense crowds. You’ll still have a lot of people around – this is Rome, after all – but that little bit of extra breathing space really makes a difference. Stepping inside to look around at the decor, we really loved the modern stripped-back feel that blends elegance with simplicity. Sit down for a game of cards and a glass of Barolo in the rosy-red velvet upholsteries or sink into the chesterfield sofa in the alternate sitting room for a quiet read. It's a reflection of the illustrious pavements below, with gold-topped tables, artsy mirrors and heaps of rustic charm. Bright and airy, the bedrooms feature large balcony doors that welcome streams of natural light into the space. All three bedrooms are accompanied by en-suite bathrooms, offering swanky bathtubs and walk-in shower rooms that add that extra level of comfort. Sleek, stylish and slap-bang in the heart of Rome.

Within strolling distance of Rome's most-loved sights, this 19th-century building reminds you that history is always at your fingertips. Aside from its contemporary colour palette, this home gives up to seven guests space to spread out, though the main bedroom offers reduced privacy for three. While you'll also be one chair short at the dining table, the lack of an oven here encourages you to get a taste of the local cuisine. We think it's well-suited to couples or solo travellers, though the double sofa bed adds flexibility if you're travelling with friends or family and your host can provide childcare equipment for little ones. You won't find a full kitchen here and the kitchenette lacks an oven, but you'll find plenty of Rome's best restaurants and bars within easy walking distance so you're never far from an authentically mouth-watering meal.

When you've had your fun for the day, retreat home to this bright and roomy apartment. Inside, it's uncluttered and minimal, which only enhances the relaxing atmosphere. Our favourite spot is the long balcony, which is shaded from the Italian sun by a leafy trellis. Sit out there in the evenings with a glass of wine and admire the views before unwinding with a soak in the lush deep bathtub.

Perfectly positioned in the heart of Rome, this contemporary pad is in a pretty unbeatable location. The city's endless array of restaurants, shops and museums are a short walk away, but that's not the only reason we love this neighbourhood. You can wander to the Trevi Fountain in six minutes, stroll through the tremendous Villa Borghese in ten, and shop for provincial produce in Campo de' Fiori in twenty-five minutes, flat. Gives a whole new meaning to the saying 'when in Rome', doesn't it?

After a busy day of sightseeing, pour yourself a glass of red wine and unwind with some locally-sourced gastronomic goodies in the open-plan living area. Decorated in soft cream shades and featuring sumptuous sofas and traditionally-shuttered windows, the lounge radiates relaxation and charm. The kitchen isn't the biggest in our collection, but it's well-equipped if you're in the mood to rustle up a light breakfast or quick lunch. Meanwhile, the bedrooms are comfortable and cosy – just the ticket following a long afternoon on your feet. We think it's an ideal laid-back getaway in Italy's buzzing capital.

Climb the original marble staircase up to the top of this elegant eighteenth-century palazzo for a whole new perspective on the Eternal City from your incredible penthouse pad. This modern apartment has been designed to make the most of its stunning setting. There's a massive wall of glass in the stylish living room, bedrooms that open up directly onto terraces, and plenty of outdoor furniture so that you can enjoy Rome's vibrant atmosphere any time of day or night. The undoubted star of the show is the incredible rooftop terrace, complete with a vast seating area and sun canopy, Jacuzzi, and dining area. We can't think of any reason not to spend every waking hour up here. When you can tear yourself away to explore the charismatic capital, you'll find yourself right in the thick of things at the Piazza Venezia end of Via del Corso, Rome's main shopping street. Seven minutes' walk will get you to postcard-perfect sights like the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. At the same time, you can reach the ancient Roman site on Palatine Hill in fifteen minutes. Of course, those tempting boutiques might add an hour or two to those walking times. 

Three Coins in the Fountain

Sofa beds in apartments are often optimistic, a way to shoehorn in a few more people and get a few more bookings, but it’s a different story with Centurion Pink. Although two guests would be in the living room, it’s practically a bedroom in its own right (albeit without doors), so the flat is easily big enough for six. There’s a welcoming atmosphere as soon as you step in the door, and while there are a few flourishes, the interior amplifies the feeling of calm.

The best thing about this city-centre home in a historic Roman building? It has to be its view of the Trevi fountain, the waters of which are, at the most, twenty metres away. While this is a tourist-trodden landmark, you'll certainly have pride of place when you stay in this traditional apartment.

Admirers of wonderfully kitsch decor will love this home, where ditsy patterned wallpaper and antique furniture take centre stage. You'll also find all the practical necessities in the well-outfitted kitchen and comfortable bedroom. After a long day of walking over the seven hills of Rome, this is the perfect spot to kick back and enjoy a good night's sleep.

You're well placed to visit the plethora of iconic monuments and landmarks in this historic capital. The Pantheon is just an eight-minute walk away, while you can reach the must-see Colosseum in twenty minutes on foot. You'll pass plenty of pastry shops and cafés en route to refuel.

We particularly love the open-plan living area here and could see ourselves spending hours around the dining table, enjoying a bowl of fresh pasta alfredo and sharing a bottle of dry Frascati wine with our fellow guests. And when night falls, what better place to drift off than the secluded master bedroom, which comes with its very own ensuite bathroom, ideal if you’re after a bit of extra privacy. 

The interior’s not the only thing worth writing home about here though. With the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum and the Basilica of Saint Mary Major all within easy walking distance, this place is perfectly situated for exploring the city. Tick off the major tourist attractions or stick to the streets of Monti, whiling away the hours in one of its trendy wine bars or vintage boutiques. However you decide to spend your time, we think you'll agree there's no place quite like Rome.

Cosy and compact, this apartment is an ideal base in Rome. Its location couldn’t be better, just a stone’s throw from the Trevi Fountain, and within walking distance of most of the city’s sights. There are countless restaurants and bars right on your doorstep, which is handy as the kitchenette is more suitable for preparing light bites – you can get your pasta fill nearby instead. The apartment is spread over two floors, with a quiet seating area on the second floor. If you’re hoping for more space and privacy, we’d recommend sticking to a guest count of two, so the sofa bed in the living room isn’t in use.

Keen to be in the historic heart of Rome? If so, you'll love this apartment. Just a few steps from the Trevi Fountain, it's a short stroll from restaurants, shops, and must-see landmarks – that's about as central as it gets. Inside, the design merges contemporary comfort with classic charm. The living area has ornate ceilings and large windows offering a glimpse of the famous fountain, while each bedroom has its own bathroom for added convenience. There isn't a coffee machine, but there are plenty of cafes within walking distance where you can kickstart your day with an espresso.

Few places in Rome capture the imagination like Monti’s warrens of independent shops and neighbourhood trattorias. Centurion Brick is on one of the main district's thoroughfares, and while the streets below can get busy, that’s a small price to pay for such a great spot. You're also just a thirteen-minute walk from the Colosseum. From the lively locale to the traditional buildings, there's a real authentic vibe around Monti that we really love – it's the perfect stay for those looking to peel back the curtain on the world's most ancient city. Another thing worth knowing is that there are actually several flats in the building, so Centurion Brick can actually work for much larger groups, assuming that some of the other places are free at the same time. Inside, the home is fresh and functional with sleek mid-century furnishings, Roman-red wallpaper and elegant Kartell chairs. It's a great option if location is your number one priority and you'd like the luxury of having individual bedrooms accompanied by swanky en-suite bathrooms.

Aperitivo might have a small footprint, but it’s unusual in that it’s a real house, spread over three floors, from the ground to the (magical) roof terrace. It’s been put together with a lot of care – this much is evident – and a lot of the furniture has been cleverly made from repurposed materials, such as the chest of drawers that used to be an old trunk. Finding this sort of place in the middle of Monti isn’t easy, and we’re very happy to have come across Aperitivo.


Aperitivo

With high ceilings, tonnes of space and beautiful floors (both stone and parquet), Centurion Rose eschews flamboyance for a more elegant, sober aesthetic. The flat isn’t particularly bright – Via Palermo outside is narrow, and has high buildings – but there’s enough light to get by, and the street is beautiful enough that we’ll forgive it. Everything, from the kitchen chairs, to the curtains, to the rainfall shower, is high quality and it all makes sense – functionality isn’t an afterthought.

A short walk from the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Barberini, this apartment puts some of Rome's most famous landmarks at your fingertips. There's no doubt that the location is excellent, especially if sightseeing is on the agenda. Yet it's the terrace back home that steals the show. It boasts panoramic views of Rome's historic skyline – nothing beats a glimpse of St. Peter's Basilica or the Vittorio Emanuele II monument while enjoying your morning espresso. Inside, the design marries traditional charm with contemporary touches. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed, but we think that's a fair trade given the central neighbourhood.
